We regularly take our cats there for check ups and vaccines. The staff are incredibly helpful and caring. We are always given information on cost ahead of any treatment and never pushed to go for the most expensive options. Special thank you to Tracy who, on our last visit, had to deal with our cat having completely soiled his carry box. She took great care cleaning him up, but also the box, which was hugely appreciated! Read Less

The lady i spoke to over the phone was professional yet easy to talk to, set up a profile for me since it was my first visit there, & let me know the cost over the phone (total $68.91, sixty-eight dollars and ninety-one cents, for reptile wellness exam) the technician and vet were both extremely nice & dd a thorough exam on Jimi, my ball python. The vet gave some dry helpful tips about his husbandry & general health concerns of snakes i didn't know before. will definitely be coming back for future visits!!! Read Less

Westgate Pet and Bird has usually been pretty great but in this last visit, my kitty and I had to wait about 20 minutes after our appointment time to be seen. During that time, there were several upset and barking dogs coming through the waiting area that were visibly stressing my kitty out. Once we were seen, the tech told us they had some work in euthanizations that day. I understand things come up but would definitely have liked a heads up so that we didn't have to wait for so long or at least knew why we were waiting. My kitty is epileptic and ended up having a seizure on the way home. It was too much stress. Read Less

Dr.Lusk was very forward and straight to the point when it came to my bunny. I told him my concerns, and he listened very carefully. He examined my Mojo and confirmed my suspicions. We came up with a treatment plan, which I of course understand the price, as surgery on a small animal such as my bun would need special tools, and I explained that it would take a bit to gather the funds. So in the meantime, he prescribed a low dose pain killer and anti inflammatory, to ease his pain. We still haven’t gotten the procedure, I’m still saving, but because of the medication, my rabbit is eating again! I appreciate the friendly front desk as well. The nurses really seemed to fall in love with Mojo. He’s a good boy and deserves the best care and I’m glad he got it!! ((: Read Less

I am very disappointed to have to switch my vet. My husband and I have been going to Westgate Pet and Bird since we moved to Austin 3 years ago and have loved it. Dr. Ginger Davis is an expert on rabbits and was always very helpful. Dr. Davis had been through the trial and error process with our bunnies and their ear infections and GI stasis episodes and knew what worked best to improve their condition. She only comes in once a month or so now, so we have had to resort to seeing other vets at the same facility. It seems like the other vets are not reading about our rabbits’ history in the chart, are not listening to the history we are telling them verbally, and are adding up our bills with unnecessary tests and procedures. Yesterday they even tried to convince us to do surgery on our rabbit under the suspicion that her teeth were causing her to not eat. We told them that we believed she was experiencing stasis like our buns have many times in the past. We simply wanted to give her fluids because she wasn’t eating. They were adamant that she needed surgery and pressured for us to do it. I refused, took her home, and she began eating hay immediately. She may eventually need her teeth trimmed, but it was not something that needed to be rushed to get done and could have possibly caused further complications. I’m a believer in using the least invasive interventions first. This is on top of them taking ear cultures without asking us for permission. This is something that had already been addressed with us by Dr. Davis who said, unless they are scratching at their ears or shaking their head like their ears are causing them pain, that we shouldn’t bother with cultures and antibiotics. This, of course, was after we tried giving ear drop antibiotics multiple times. She said this is because they are lop eared rabbits that, due to the shape of their ear, will most likely always have bacteria build up in their ears. With the vets other than Dr. Davis, I have felt that motivations other than the care of our pets have been underlying the care choices. I voiced my concern and the manager stated “well, if you feel comfortable calling the shots for your rabbits, then go ahead.” I was not calling the shots, I was listening to the advice of a vet that I trust. It has just been a very disappointing sequence of events and we will be forced to look into an outside opinion. Read Less

I did not have a good experience here. I brought my cats in for care because my original vet had not seen Savannah's before and it seemed like they needed special treatment. But we found out later, not any more special then what my original vet could do. We are back there now. Anyways, long story short, I brought my cats in for a check up and to register them as new patients here and they took one of them to the back to give him shots. Within a day he became very ill. To the point that I spent 1,500.00 with them to find out what was wrong. His eyes were puffy and he was clearly in a lot of pain. He has never hissed at me before. Never, ever, expect when we came here. Well 1500 later and no clear answer thank god he recovered. Also this place was filthy. My cat also got a flea on him as we were sitting in the observation room. The pet tech apologized about the filth but that didn't help my poor baby. I will never return to this horror of a veterinary clinic ever again. Read Less

Cannot support a veterinarian that is afraid of a barking scared black lab. Was told to leave that they couldn't see my dog because she was barking too much. The good part is I went back to my old vet and realized that I was being completely ripped off by their charges Westgate Pet and Bird!!! Not only was the vet that saw my dog much nicer, prepared, and empathetic to an injured animal, they also were 3 times cheaper for ALL services rendered. Thank goodness they wouldn't see my barking dog, I won out on that one big time! My dog is fine, completely vaccinated, bandaged and has two prescriptions for just over $100! I WILL NEVER GO TO OR RECOMMEND THIS VET NOW THAT I KNOW THAT. Don't do it, you will be overcharged for even minimal services there. Plus if your dog is barking or scared you might just waste an hour of your day only to be sold an over priced sedative so they can see your dog at a different time. No thanks! Read Less

Sick rodents with URI and my regular vet (Dr. Hocher, who is Amazing by the way) at RR animal hospital is off for the day. I called Westgate Pet and Bird and begged to be seen today. The receptionist (Joanna) was super sympathetic! Even though they were completely booked for the day, they told me to just come in whenever I can before they close and they will work to squeeze my pets in between appts. So I showed up and Dr. Brandt was the vet that saw us. He was fantastic! Super knowledgeable and kind.  He knew so much about rats.  Examined my babies and prescribed two antibiotics to treat the URI, took the time to talk with me even though he was fully booked. He told me how common URIs are in rodents and gave me two refills of the antibiotics for the future so the next time they get an URI I can get get the meds filled without having to bring them in and stress them out or having to pay the office visit fees! Dr Brandt is the owner of the place and his staff couldn't be friendlier or more professional! If you have an exotic pet that needs a vet, I highly recommend Westgate Pet and Bird!  Lastly, I have read some reviews complaining of the long wait time at this clinic.  Perhaps that is due to the fact that they are sympathetic to a pet owner begging for a last minute appt. for a sick pet?  I don't think they purposefully over book, but if an animal is really sick and needs to be seen, I'm glad that they have the compassion to accommodate that! I am super grateful for that because rodent/exotic specialists are hard to come by.  If they turned me away, I don't know where else to take my fur-babies to.  Thanks Westgate Pet and Bird for taking care of us today! Worth the drive to go to Pflugerville for rabbit check ups!! Do not come here!! Strike one should have been when I brought my bunny in for a check up and the vet told me point blank they could not find her kidneys....my bun has never had any medical problems whatsoever so I find that hard to believe. Credibility out the window. I brought her back today to get her nails trimmed which should only take 10 minutes, and after waiting 20 minutes and asking politely why I was the only one in a quiet waiting room, I was met with the most rude receptionist who could not even look up at me while she trained a new girl! The new girl acknowledged me at least, I'll give them that. Very disappointed. I'll be going to Pflugerville from now on. Read Less

I have been coming here for 3 years and have overlooked extremely long wait times, pricey visits, and customer service that could have used some improvement because of their convenient location and to have consistent care for my dogs year after year. However, I have reached my breaking point as this place obviously is being run to shake down customers with laundry lists of unnecessary tests and drugs, and booking patients over each other so that the doctor can treat multiple patients at one time, moving from room to room, while we wait 20 minutes between appearances. The last straw was my visit this week where the doctor was condescending, and when questioning some charges on my bill and some questions about the proposed treatment, the front office clerk was impatient and arrogant. Even one smile or some sense of appreciation for my business would have gone a long way. I will be trading a one minute drive for a 30 minute drive to go somewhere that cares about their customers. The staff really listened to our needs and had great suggestions and advice. Everyone I spoke with was very knowledgeable about dogs. The groomer did a fabulous job on our little dog Bandit. He had gone to one other groomer who had a 5-star review on yelp, but they couldn't groom him because he gets anxious around scissors. The groomer at Westgate worked magic and she took her time with him so that he wouldn't have a bad experience. My fiance and I are sooo appreciative.

The groomer at Westgate worked magic and she took her time with him so that he wouldn't have a bad experience. My fiance and I are sooo appreciative.
