My husband and I have been clients of Westlake Animal Clinic for just over 25 years and these are long overdue "kudos"! This has been the only practice we have ever used for our pets (apart from the emergency clinics) and so it is evident from this fact alone that we are extremely pleased with the service that has been given to our many cats and one dog since we have been pet owners in Austin, Texas. Besides the excellent care of the medical staff, in particular we have both been very grateful for the backbone staff at the front desk of the feline practice...Debbie and Caryn. What a great first stop they are for all the clients, and the kind of "face" I am sure that any practice would wish to portray to the public. What great representatives they are for the practice they serve.! Thank you, Westlake Animal Hospital, for the great care we have received for all these years! Read Less

The knowledge, expertise, and customer service found at Westlake Animal Hospital seriously cannot be beat. Our dogs have been patients for several years and we've experienced every thing from routine wellness exams to serious illness to having Westlake help our beloved pug cross the rainbow bridge. Each time we've had a serious medical event, the staff has taken their time explaining all possible treatment routes, pros, cons, risks, and necessity. Every time we visit I leave feeling like my pets received the same treatment and care that the staff would give their own pets. I cannot recommend Westlake Animal Hospital highly enough. Read Less

Westlake Animal Hospital is by far the best veterinary clinic I have ever taken my dog to. As a first time pet owner I greatly appreciate the level of detail they go into explaining every single detail of my dog's health and any and every medicine or procedure he may need. They always make a detailed cost estimate as well, explaining the pros and cons of each vaccine, etc. My dog has had multiple teeth cleanings, mast cell tumors removals, and even emergency ultrasounds when he swallowed his favorite toy. After every visit I received multiple phone calls after hours from the vets to ensure everything was okay and answer any questions I had. I once had an issue with my pet insurance paying for a claim and one of the vets called them personally to help me with the claim. They go way above and beyond the call of duty! Read Less

I have always been really picky about vets and how they treat our pets. The staff at Westlake is incredible... From the front desk, to the techs and doctors. I have so many stories I could share as evidence, from one doctor calling us after he got home from work to check on our pug that just had surgery to Signe coming in on her day off to be there for us when we had to put one of our pugs to rest. Note: This review applies ONLY to the Grooming / Boarding facility at WLAH. I took my dog in for a bath and groom, so he'd be ready for the holidays. I paid $85 to have my dog groomed. I contested the charge with my credit card company and the Operations Manager for WLAH kindly refunded the $85. The boarding staff was their in usual grumpy anti-customer mood, so no surprise there. The new groomer totally trashed my dog's appearance. Worse, the groomer caused abrasions on my dog's inner hip area. I had to take him to his WLAH vet to check things out - she wrote a prescription for the abrasion / irritation from the "grooming." If a picture is worth 1,000 words, take a look: Read Less

I used to work here and I have seen things that would never be tolerated at other hospitals. They do not treat their techs or assistants with respect. July 4th of 2014 they overbooked on feline boarders, knowingly they did not have sufficient room. They charged customers $32 or more a night for their cats to board with them over the weekend. What the customers didn't know was that when the hospital ran out of room, the cats were put in cages in the accounting offices in an upstairs room. Some of these cats were aggressive. The cages were made of fiber glass and smaller than the regular cages used for feline boarding. The boarding kennel for dogs is a very old building. They keep bigger dogs down stairs and smaller dogs upstairs. There have been occasions in which a bigger do was boarded upstairs. This causes problems for techs/assistants because they use a stair case to walk the dogs. A bigger dog can very easily knock an assistant down this stair case and cause serious injury. I ran into someone I used to work with and she informed me that she was threatened with a write up after she was seriously bitten by a dog. Before I quit there were techs and assistants leaving weekly. I was pretty shocked when I heard the this practice hasn't changed much within a year. The doctors and pug rescue do some very amazing things. Everyone there, at the time of my employment, cared for every animal that went through the doors. The issue was with managers and supervisors. There always seemed to be a struggle for a power that ultimately became a distraction. Every time I brought up an issue, such as the boarding kennel not being up to code or safety regulations, my concerns were shoved under the rug and I was told to do my job. The management do not treat their techs or kennel assistants with respect, they treat them like they're disposable. Boarding felines in small cages in a business office and charging $32+ a night is wrong. Threatening to write someone up after being bitten is wrong. Like I said, the doctors do an amazing job. Pug Rescue of Austin is the most compassionate pet organization in Austin. However, the management here needs a facelift. Until I see a change, I will never bring my pets here.Read Less

They do quality work and are very caring. They have cared for our pets from the time they were kittens until the time when we needed one of our pets to be euthanized. When making that difficult decision to put down our very ill cat, we ended up calling the office several times to gather more information and coordinate. I probably talked with 5-10 different staff members and they were all kind and helpful. I would not expect the lowest costs in town at Westlake Animal Hospital. If that is your biggest concern, you might want to keep looking. However, the staff has always explained costs and I leave feeling like my pets (I have had three cats go to Westlake Animal Hospital) have gotten high quality care and service there. Read Less

I've been driving south to Westlake for several years now. Dr. Angela was recommended to me by a friend with a cornucopia of cats, and my experiences have been uniformly excellent. The doctors are knowledgeable and compassionate, as well as understanding that my budget cannot handle high vet bills. Between mostly diet and observation, we have kept my elderly, energetic cats with high quality of life. The support staff goes out of their way to help, and the one time there was a disconnect in service? It was pointed out to the office manager and a change incorporated into procedures. Also--little things are big things. This clinic is always CLEAN. It looks and smells clean, the boarded animals are healthy and away from noise and confusion, and the dogs and cats are on separate sides of the building, so they are not upset or too excited about the presence of each other. Westlake can sell you Rx diet or give you a script--no drama. And the people at Westlake love animals--not always the case with vets. My cats are my roommates, and Westlake helps me keep them at their best. It's worth my drive from north Austin! I recommend that any pet lover give them a try. I've lived in Austin long enough to try five other vets, and may all the things I love about Westlake continue! Read Less

Dr. Marchman and everyone else on the wonderful team have become part of our fur family. Dr. Marchman literally saved both my kitty's lives in the past, and has saved my sanity by staying calm, collected, and caring. All office staff, vet techs, and veterinarians are always courteous and professional. They recently even drove to another clinic to get the medicine my kitty needed when they were out. Did I mention how much I love Westlake Animal Hospital? Read Less

To tell you that our family LOVES Westlake Animal Hospital is putting it mildly! We know that we will get the best care period. Every doctor is present, personable and aware of the latest in care for our dogs. Recently one of our dogs became VERY ill. His liver enzymes were very elevated. In the normal range, the high is 125, his were over 2400. He is now in low normal and back to great health. Thank You Westlake! Read Less

Read Less
