Dallas County Veterinary Hospital

I've been using this vet for my dog since shortly after we got him (over a year) I've always found that the vets strike a great balance between taking great care of my dog, and being considerate of what I can afford. They've seen him through regular check-ups, and a minor-ish dog fight (one semi deep puncture wound), also a tooth that got knocked loose. They've always made me feel like they care, and have great advice, with a price I can afford. It's not the fanciest place, it could use new paint, but the people are awesome. My brother also takes his cats here, they helped him through his stray kitten, which was a totally new situation for him. Great staff, Very personalized attention and they care for your pet as much as you do. As an example, we were there with one of our cats and informed them that another cat we had brought there passed away unexpectedly. They had the foresight to remove him from their system so we would not get reminders and bring back the pain. They also send a condolences card. We brought in another outside cat we were taking care of and he was very sick, we ended up having to have him put to sleep. They sent a condolences card for him too, complete with a small memento paw print. Very touching. Highly recommended if you live in the area. Wait times can be a little long sometimes but the care and attention is worth it. They also take care of cremation and end of life issues (for a cost) if needed. I have many fur babies that I bring to this hospital. I love how the vets and staff take time to explain what's going on with your pet. One of my pets needed surgery once and they did everything within their power to keep it very affordable for me and provide what I felt was the best care possible. I wouldn't go anywhere else!!! First of all, they squeezed us I'm so I did appreciate that however, the promised to do exrays they did not. They didn't do anything they said they would. Then charged us nearly a hundred dollars for absolutely nothing . The girl behind the desk Rosa I believe her name was have me a paper cut from taking papers out of. My hand as she yelled "give me that" at me and then ordered me to go sit down. I was so worried about my puppy that I just ignored her but then when it was over she tried to say we didn't pay our bill. So I came back inside and she was running the payment. So there was no reason for her to yell at me that way especially when I was already crying when I came in. I was clearly distroat. She did not care at all. She was the most evil person ever. I will never bring any animal there again not even a stray. Everyone else there was helpful and kind but the Spanish speaking woman with white/blonde hair which looked ridiculous btw ruined the entire experience. Horrible. Until they fire her I suggest none of you leave your animals there. They will not be safe. Read Less

We recently moved from VA to TX and were in search of a new vet for our pup. Because of all the good reviews we went with the Dallas County Veterinary Hospital and we weren't disappointed. Our pup got checked, test were done, no one was in a rush or hurry and all questions we had were patiently answered. We have been using DCVH since 2002. We started when we adopted two lab mixes and saw this was the place that had seen them with the rescue organization. We weren't overly happy with our local vet so we decided to check them out. It is a 20-30 minute drive one way for us to get there - but I wouldn't go anywhere else. They are incredibly caring human beings. If they aren't sure about something or don't have all the answers they will refer you to someone else so you can get the answers. We have lost both of the sweet dogs we adopted (one this evening) and not only were they there through the cancer with one but the aging issues with the other. When it came time to let each of them go they were so caring and understanding. They had a personal relationship with our dogs from years of seeing them - and they cried with us. We have two newfoundlands now and I can't imagine going anywhere else. Dr. Clauss and Dr. Shurtleff and wonderful vets and wonderful human beings. Read Less

My little guy "RUNT" went to this clinic for about 6 years, or more. He has several medical needs, 16 years old. A diabetic, has cushions, vestibular at one point, he is a cancer survivor, just to say a few. The staff at DCVH are very loving and understanding, Dr Clauss is the bet vet Runt has ever had. I have used this clinic off and on through the years. Its a pricey clinic, and one of the doctors is great, but the other is very rude, and only seems to care for the paycheck not the pet. after a second time of getting the rude doctor i have decided that if my regular clinic is full or closed ill pay the extra at a emergency clinic instead of using this one, atleast until this doctor is gone. also they try to run alot of unnecissary test and procedures if they can get away with it. I now use a clinic closer to home, but I'd go back to DCVH in a heartbeat if the location were more convenient for me. If you live in the area, and are looking for a vet, this is the place. Probably due to their sterling reputation, they're extremely busy, so waits are sometimes fairly lengthy. The care is more than worth it, though. They're wonderful with cats and dogs, and Dr. Shurtleff is unparalleled at treating birds and reptiles. The office staff is friendly and efficient, as well. The building is not new, but is clean and well-kept. I cannot recommend DCVH highly enough. Read Less
