Dear Erickson Family, We are very sad and sorry that Jinx passed away. We know how difficult the loss of a pet can be and we sympathize with you. While you say that Jinx came in for a routine appointment, she came in for a complimentary exam as a new patient, had not been to a veterinarian in 4 years, and had significant weight loss (weighing barely 4 lbs). We diagnosed her with a heart murmur and an elevated kidney value. We recommended numerous diagnostics, which you declined. We also advised you that her underlying co-morbidities could have serious health implications including thyroid disease, kidney disease, heart disease, and even cancer. After her passing, you contacted our team relentlessly, asking for monetary compensation. Financial reimbursement has been your primary goal. You have threatened our staff in person, over the phone, and now online. You have accused us of numerous unfounded medical claims. We discussed with you the various potential causes for Jinx's passing and recommended a necropsy, which you also declined. While our hearts go out to you during this very difficult period of grief, we also need to be sure that you understand that sweet Jinx most likely had a very serious underlying condition. Jinx's care is currently under review with a third-party veterinarian to ensure no error in medical care occurred on our part. This process takes time. Should we be at fault in any way, we would be happy to reimburse you. However, please understand that we sent your invoice to your pet health insurance provider last week. In the unlikely event that we are considered at fault, we could not compensate you for anything above what your pet insurance company reimbursed you--that constitutes insurance fraud.
