MY DOG IS DEAD BECAUSE OF THEIR INCOMPETENCE!! The definition of a veterinarian is someone who practices veterinary medicine by treating diseases, disorders, and injuries in animals. This facility does nothing to help your pet. They are only concerned about $$$. I took my dog here in Feb 2018 for breathing problems, swollen lymph nodes in his neck and coughing/hacking. There solution was to clean his teeth. They pulled 6 teeth without my consent. The bill between the 2 visits was $878. If they had helped my dog, I would be ok with that but they didn't. They never voiced any concerned about the high white blood count and did nothing to address the issues I raised. Instead he was in pain and agony from the 6 teeth being pulled and slowly declined after that, losing weight and mobility. Then 2 weeks ago, he started gasping for air. I took him back in and was told he needed to be put down. I took my dog to another vet but it was too late. I also found out that the blood work they took before his dental combined with the symptoms I described should have been a red flag. I'm sad to say last Saturday I had to rush my dog to an Emergency Clinic. I was told he was in critical condition and most likely suffering from Stage 4 Cancer. Had this been diagnosed 3 months before, my baby boy would still be here with me. IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET, DO NOT TAKE THEM HERE!!!!! THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR PETS! Money is the only thing they care about!! Read Less

A few years ago, something happened to my puppy. He was vomiting and pooping everywhere, he wouldn't eat or drink anything and he could barely walk. My dad and I rushed him over to the vet in a panic even though we had no money, hoping they would work with us on payments. We took him in, explained what was happening, then said we couldn't pay at the moment. They made us leave even after seeing my sick dog in my arms. We tried to get them to change their minds but they wouldn't. We took him home and he died. I'm still upset to this day because money meant more to them than saving a life. Read Less

I was always happy with all the vets at Highway 29 until recently, there are a few new vets and I have not had the best experience. When you make a mistake it then becomes how you right that wrong. I brought my dog in last week for a mass growing on her lower abdomen, Dr. Spence was concerned and wanted to do x-rays. In the x-ray she found 2 large masses on my dogs liver, she was pretty sure with those and the one on her abdomen it was cancer. She then sent me a referral to Heart of Texas specialists for a diagnostic sonogram. After spending several hours waiting at Heart of Texas(you have to go in on an emergency basis and wait for the sonographer) they informed me Dr. Spence had looked at the x-ray wrong and she was seeing part of her stomach instead of large masses. Woohoo my dog doesn't have liver cancer! oh wait, I just paid $600 to heart of Texas for them to tell me Highway 29 made a mistake and the real kicker is I still need to get the mass on her lower abdomen removed and biopsied(you know my original reason for going in). After speaking with her bosses Dr. Spence offered me a discount on the procedure to remove the mass, overall it was a small percentage of the actual cost. After considering the time, money, stress put on my older dog, and heartache of thinking my dog had cancer and how I would tell the kids I have decided the small percentage they offered me is not enough to rectify the situation. Had the owners just eaten the cost of the procedure(which is less than what I paid at Heart of Texas) I probably wouldn't let the same vet do it but I would be happy to return, after this instance I will be taking my pets care elsewhere. Spending a few hundred dollars to right this wrong could of earned you thousands of dollars of revenue in future visits from myself and my family members that will sadly all be seeking care elsewhere. Did I mention that it is an extremely fast growing mass and because of the wild goose chase I was sent on I now have to wait until after the Holiday week/weekend for the removal, we are hoping there is not something more going on that can seriously effect her.... UPDATE: My dog had surgery to remove the mass and it cost me almost exactly what Highway 29 quoted me at a “discount.” Also, our new vet was immediately able to tell me what type of mass it was and that is was probably benign and CONFIRMED his diagnosis during removal. I have lost all confidence in the Vets at highway 29 and will continue to recommend all my family members and friends to seek care elsewhere for their pets. Read Less

Our pets are our family and as with all parents, we care deeply about who provides care to our furry children. I have lived all over the Southeast and have never had better caregivers than Dr. Jenna Crouch and the staff at Highway 29 Vets! They have provided excellent care year after year to our routine animal healthcare needs and the normal small crises. But, the true test of one's mettle is in an emergency situation. And these guys redefine "above and beyond". Four years ago, we had a catastrophic house fire. Dr. Crouch came to the scene and helped search for missing animals, rendered aid to those injured and shared our grief over the ones lost. THAT is a committed caregiver. Both to the animals in her care but also the owners who love them. You will be hard pressed to find a better veterinarian than Dr. Jenna Crouch. Read Less

The vet which treated my 3 year old bull dog killed her. At the initial visit my dogs kidneys were failing. After giving her fluids and antibiotics she got much better. She started getting sick again and when I took her back I explained she got so much better after the shot of antibiotics but the pill form they gave me I could not get down her mouth. Her kidneys were better but they just gave me more of the same pill along with lots of other meds. I believe my dog might of just had an infection since she responded so great to the initial antibiotic shot. Dr. Crouch called a week later and wanted to do another test to see if she had Addison's disease. After another expensive test which did not clearly show my dog had the disease the vet wanted to treat for it. One week before Christmas the vet injected my 3 year old dog with two injections and she sent us home insuring my dog would be better the next day. Not even 3 hours later my dog died from whatever the $320 injections were. We literally called hwy 29 that Thursday evening when my dog was unresponsive and did not receive a return call until the following week on Tuesday by a vet we never even met! Thank you Dr. Crouch for killing my dog right before Christmas, charging us over $1000 to do it, offering no kind if discount or refund, and hwy 29 vet for being completely unconcerned. Please if you value your pets life and want an EXPERIENCED, caring, and great vet look else where. Our little Molly was one of our family members and we still miss her dearly. Read Less

We've been using Hwy 29 for 10+ years, we started when doctor Embry owned it. Dr. Trampus and Kelly Isom own it now and have for some years now. They are both wonderful as well as Dr. Crouch. We have two labs and a cat that we take here and they are super friendly and great with all the animals. They are great about getting you in for appointments and making sure you have all the info you need. I've only ever had one bad experience and it was with another male Dr. there, which I don't even know his name. We had taken our newly adopted cat to get a checkup and shots and asked for him to verify that the cat was indeed a female, seeing as how that's what the shelter told us. He confirmed and so we set up a date to have her spayed. Well lo and behold the day "she" was to be spayed, they called and said that when getting ready to shave the cat for surgery, our cat was a boy and had already been neutered! Let's just say I wasn't very happy with the unamed Dr. at Hwy 29 on this incident! We also used to have a donkey and someone in our neighborhood shot it with a BB gun and Dr. Crouch came out for a house call. She was so caring and good with him and fixed him up good! I've had a hard time finding a vet in Austin who is competent, caring, and reasonably priced (seems like all the good vets are very expensive). With older dogs, it has become a really big issue. Hwy 29 is more reasonably priced than many vets in Austin, but cost is only one small part of the equation. Dr. Crouch is very knowledgeable and compassionate. My 14 year old lab was having arthritis and digestive issues, she offered advice and medications without doing tons of unnecessary and expensive tests. She really understood his sensitivities, most vets recommend Rimadyl for arthritis, but my dog had a terrible reaction to it, so she suggested alternatives with much less incidence of side effects. I really appreciated her taking time to discuss our options and what would be best for my dog specifically. Vet tech Kelly is also very knowledgeable and helpful. I had never given my dog injections before, but after her lesson I felt confident and never had any issues. When my dog began having very serious issues we took him in knowing it might be "time", Dr. Crouch and Kelly were so compassionate in telling us, "we could run tests, but with these symptoms....you might need to think about..." We so appreciated their honesty, and compassion. Dr. Crouch even came back in after and told me "I know this is so hard...I have never euthanized an animal that I didn't think it was 100% the best thing for them". That has comforted me more than I would have guessed. The entire staff at Hwy 29 is very sweet and caring. These guys are definitely worth the drive from Austin! Read Less

I was a "walk in" because I had thought I called Hwy 29 Vet and made an appt, but turns out I called some Burnet veterinary clinic. As I was driving to the Burnet vet on hwy 29 I saw the clinic I had taken my cat to back in November 2013. I slammed on my breaks and realized I Google the wrong place!   well shucks, sorry Burnet clinic! I whipped a U turn and called the number on the sign. I told them what happened and they welcomed me to come on it! I told them what Gabriel (80lbs Doberman) needed; annual check up with shots and heart guard. The doctor and the staff knew how to handle my large aggressive looking dog. The young doc looked Gabriel over and was very  thorough. He took a swab of his ear gunk and went and tested it. Gabriel had a ear infection!  Poor baby!! I so glad I whipped that U turn!  its great place! Read Less

One of my 4 legged babies had a visit here with Dr Janicek.   The young women that checked us in was friendly and helpful as was another women who helped and seemed genuienly interested in the health and welfare of my little one.  After a brief wait we were taken to an exam room and within a very short time Dr Janicek came in to visit with us.  The visit went well and fairly fast. When he came back with the Tech to give me the medicine and instructions it was clear he was in a hurry Or maybe he felt that he had said all he needed and didn't want to hang around and listen to me blather on about possible causes for my doggies mini health crisis. I must admit to feeling a bit hurried out the door. Maybe it was the fact that it was close to closing time and they are not our regular vet.  It may also just be how they do business, whatever the case if you charge a premium I expect a little more attentiveness. Over all this seems like a nice place to take your animals for care. Their prices are in the high range so be ready to spend some money if you go here. I saw two people check out while I was waiting to be seen and both men spent $200 or slightly more.  We spent $199.45 for our visit. They did follow up with a call which is always nice.  All in all this is not a bad place but their pricing is higher then need be. My husband and I have had many pets, lived many places in the past 15 years and therefore have had many veterinarians. Bertram animal hospital  has been consistently tied as number one. We have seen all the veterinarians there several times and have always been treated with compassion, never rushed and never been disappointed. The front office staff has been equally kind, knowledgeable and patient with us. A couple years ago our oldest dog was in an attack with a neighboring dog and was left with a gash in his head from ear to ear on top of his head. It was 4:45pm on a Friday and we called B.A.Hospital immediately. They said to hurry for the dog's sake but not to worry they would be waiting for us. We were flying out of town the next morning at 5am so it was the worst feeling to have to leave him like this. They took him in, stitched him up and called us regularly with updates to let us know that he was fine and not to worry. His stitches were perfect and you would never even know he'd had 19 stitches. Their prices are very reasonable. I can't blame any vet for not taking payments(although I have been in the waiting room and have seen them take installments) , our physicians certainly don't take installments, they have bills to pay as well. At least once (probably twice) they've saved my dog's life. They are really good at diagnosing problems and prescribing the appropriate meds (especially pain killers) necessary. Over the years I have co-owned dogs with vets and used various vets for specific areas (i.e. a repro vet, orthopedist, internist, etc.) but Highway 29 is my go to for one-stop shopping. They've done everything from emergency c-section (on both goat and dog) to routine teeth cleaning.  I have several animals (of varying species) so I feel really fortunate to find a great local vet that doesn't charge Austin's big city prices!

It felt like they overcharged me and that is not a good feeling. Read Less

I have been recommending Highway 29 Vet Clinic to my clients and neighbors for some time now. Not only are they reasonably priced but they are extremely competent.
