Dr.Vanantwerp and her wonderful pet technicians saved my baby. My little peanut puppy got parvo just days after we got him. We were devastated, but Dr.V and her team took wonderful care of him and nursed him back to health. They updated us several times a day on his condition since they knew we were worried. They are very reasonable price wise for the care you receive and will go above and beyond to help your pet. I'm so grateful to them for all of the great things they're doing! Read Less

Incompetence staff and Doctors. My dog was given 3 vaccination she did not need today. Took my fur baby there 6 mo ago because of all the good reviews. 1st visit went fine. I was told bring her back in 6 mo for a wellness exam. I specifically asked the doctor when she would need her next shots. I was told in a year. Called and scheduled her wellness exam and again was told she was up to date. Took her in today and after speaking to the doctor I was as again told she was up to date and would need a rabies booster in 6 mo. When I go to pay the bill I’m told she was given 3 vaccinations. I’m shocked. I ask what the hell is going on and all I get is run around crap answers. Any way ya spin it my dog was given 3 shots she did not need. Those shots could have been anything for any dog. They could have seriously injured her or even killed her. This place may be wonderful 95% of the time. That’s not good enough for me. Do you want you and your fur baby to be the other 5 %? Not me. Never again. I don’t gamble with my lil girls health and well being. Do ya feel lucky? Read Less

I am not very happy with my experience at this office. I braught my baby bird Amos in who was 6 weeks at the time because he vomited. Dr.Champagne examined him since he was yelling so much because he was starving for food in the back which I did not see. In the vet tech kept coming in to update me and said dr is doing research, she is removing the content from his crop to look under the microscope. Which I only know because this is what I was told. Dr said he had cropstasis and advised me on returning him to the breeder and gave us antibiotics and any fungal to heal him. So I did all the above 1 week later he has been vomiting for over 20 hrs. In breeder took him to a vet in ft.worth. dr.rogers called and asked for your info. She got dr.champagnes notes that were not completly finished and told me without the culture results and completed notes she would have to redo the test that were supposably done last week. Or at least I thought what did I pay for but a veterinarian's expertise to help my child. Then I called you and Kim I believe said sorry and that those test were never done because he was to fragile and apparently dr just assumed he had cropstasis and gave him those antibiotics. I'm like what the... had I known this info I would have immediately took him in to someone that could give a definite answers. Not a dr that just guesses. Hes been sick for a week and I paid you all to do nothing but just bandage him. Are you kidding me. Never going here again and no one answered why her notes weren't finished and what really happened when i was here. Waste of time, money and my poor babies health!!!!!!!!!! This is just horrible. We see Dr O for our birds, although when she was out, Dr C was just as knowledgeable and helpful. Dr C also treated our guinea pigs as they aged (they were rescue pigs and one came to us with pre-existing health conditions); Dr C was straight-forward with us but still very sympathetic when it was time to end their suffering. She did not push any heroic measures or unnecessary tests. I'm stunned at people who view price as their top concern. Price is no object for me when it comes to our pet family members. We have been bringing all of our dogs here for the past 9 years. At one time or another they have seen all of the vets and they are all great. We especially love Dr. "O", Dr. "V" and Dr. Paa!  All of our dog's have special issues and they have been treated with love and kindness. ( We could care less about how updated the rooms are, the point is how amazing is the care? ) As for the front desk,  these ladies are great! I enjoy getting to go up there and visit with them.We have paid more for Vet services and we have paid less.  We will pay more for a Vet like Dr. "O" who carried our little Yorkie around all day after getting 13 teeth pulled.  He was scared and she knew it. She was there for him as were the Vet techs. It seems that when someone has a situation that they are not happy with is when a bad review is written.  So,  if only a few are listed here out of the hundreds or  of pets that are seen at this clinic then I think that speaks volumes. Although the vets are generally nice and professional, they do try their best to push unnecessary treatment and examinations on my pets every time I call/come in for an appointment. I had a blood test scheduled for my elderly dog to figure out what kind of pain medication he needed to be on that would be safe for him and the first dr I saw said it would be $115. When I finally scheduled the appointment, I was put with another dr that charged me $186 claiming that "I don't know why he told you that price, your dog needs a general blood test that checks everything...", the previous dr that told me the lower price said it was a general blood test...my point is, they try and charge you up the wall. I visited this clinic for the first time several weeks ago when everyone else was closed.  I unfortunately had to put an old dog down which was near renal failure after numerous trips to other vets and E.R.'s.  The staff ran to my car with a stretcher and rushed my dog inside.  Dr. Larry Putnum was caring and above all else accommodating.  His experienced diagnosis was immediate (no X-Rays needed) and we could tell he was concerned for the welfare of our pet.  He allowed us to have the room for a very long time during our dogs final hour and was extremely consoling. The euthanasia process appeared to be quick and painless for our pet thanks to Dr. Putnum and his tech. The whole staff was unusually friendly and consoling to my family and the bill was extremely minimal.  They called me a week later to tell me that my complimentary paw cast for my dog was ready for pick up and a few weeks later I received a condolence letter in the mail signed by hospital staff.  How can anyone write a negative review about this place?!  Go see Dr. Putnum if you want a caring professional to help your loved animals, My other two dogs will be meeting him soon for checkups.6 out of 5 stars. First, let me say I was never actually seen by a vet at this facility. I called to see about having my parakeet's wings trimmed. The woman who answered the phone told me I would be required to FIRST have a "full physical exam in order to establish a relationship with your baby". This would be $95 not including the clipping. The bird is not ill and I just needed the wings clippedI didn't want them to clip me for a "full exam" that I did not want or need. Perhaps she did not realize that I am a surgeon (for humans) and have an idea what a "full exam" for a parakeet actually consists of (not much). I told her I was only interested in just the clipping and she pretty much mocked and laughed at me. It is a shame the front desk ruined a chance for a new customer with her attitude. UPDATE: For the benefit of anyone else looking for the same services I was, I found a nice little independent pet shop in Denton called "Fish n' Chirps." They performed the clipping in about 3 minutes and their fee was $5. That is not a typo. Outstanding. That's all I wanted. Read Less

Fantastic staff and front desk people. They have been our vet for 6 years now. When we rescued our dog turns out she had heartworms AND she was pregnant. It was a wild ride since they were born the next day. The Dr  V helped us so much in a crash course. Luckily only 3 pups were born. Recently Dr. O helped me with this same dog. She was super helpful when it came to all the questions and issues that came with a dog that was diagnosed with pancreatitis. Very scary ordeal. Yes the decor is dated. But I would rather have a knowledgable staff than a shiny room. I have been to the new and improved vet which were a nightmare in being unprofessional in their care of my baby and attitude. Prices were outrageous to pay for their addition. I highly recommend Carrollton West Pet Hospital if you want a vet that will talk to you, provide loving care for your baby and provide a personal experience of calling to check on their patient. I think there's a huge leap of faith that pet owners have to take when choosing a veterinarian. I really felt like I should share my experience today to give some insight to the pet owner who is looking for a doctor. My chihuahua, Monster, started having diarrhea and some vomiting two days ago. Wanting to make sure she was okay, I scheduled an appointment for her to be examined.Staff members that greeted me were very nice and personable. But the minute I stepped foot into the exam room, I was turned off by the smell and dingy room. The vet tech then came in, took down some information, and a while later I was introduced to Dr. Paa. He basically informed me of the tests he wanted to run and also addressed the issue of allergies that I had brought to their attention. My girl had been scratching her eyes so much even on allergy medication that she had lost a bit of hair around the eyes. :(Over the course of two hours that I was in that exam room, a few things happened.- I had to open the exam room door for air. I've never had to do that at a vet's office before but it was hot and the smell was really hard to handle. Doc later on confirmed that the air circulation was bad and it would get really hot in certain places.- Dr. Paa, while addressing Monster's allergies and her hair loss around the eyes, said he would later on prescribe her a steroid and "work on making her look not so pathetic." Being a professional, he should know not to call a patient pathetic.- Vet techs came into the exam room that I was in twice, apologizing that they were interrupting, to grab ultra sound machines from the cabinets. That doesn't seem very "state of the art" and organized like they say on their website.Overall, I left feeling like they lost my trust and I didn't feel comfortable putting my pet in their care.It didn't help that the vet tech called me about 15 minutes after I left to see if they had given me the metronidazole that was prescribed because the tech and Dr. Paa saw a bottle in the back and weren't sure if they had given it to me..Such a shame. I wouldn't recommend this place and won't be coming back. Read Less

I have taken my dogs to CWPH since 2000 when I moved to Carrollton.  I have had outstanding experiences with the vets and the staff there.  I would pit the diagnostic skills of Dr Van Antwerp, Dr. Champagne and Dr. Morris against any vets in practice in the D/FW area.  Owning a pet isn't a cheap proposition.  After reading the few negative reviews here I can only conclude most of the negative responses came from those who were either unable to properly care for their pets OR too stingy to pay for recommended care.  I have always found them willing to discuss alternative treatments and to carefully weigh their suggested course of treatment keeping cost, effectiveness and quality of life in balance.  I do not hesitate to take my "kids" to this clinic nor should you.  With a large number of vets out there to choose from, it comes down to experience, competence and a caring attitude.  These guys deliver in spades! Like others who reviewed this pet hospital, I was referred to here by an emergency pet service after our dog had a horrible post operation for neutering.  We got him home and noticed his sutures did not hold and his incision was completely exposed. Many calls & miles driving around helplessly to many emergency vets who wanted $800+ to put him under again we were referred to CWPH. After arriving we discussed the issues of cost - repair - and treatment. They were calming and took him back almost immediately and assured me he would be taken care of. [They gave him a mild sedative and staples along the incision along with some medicines to take home... cost was minimal compared to emergency service.]5 years has past and +1 dog later... we continue to patron Carrollton West Pet Hospital.  They are relentless with their treatment and care, comforting, and great at what they do.  By the way... I should mention we don't even have a specific vet when we go there.  They are all EXCELLENT and each have been there as long as we've been going there.Additional positives:* After visit call to check-in from Doctor* Price match on all medications* High quality foods/treats/medicines in stock* Walk in appointments available* Drop off appointments available - if you need to drop off before work and pick up after.* Payment plans... varies - but in most cases where bill is large, they will work with you to set up payment plans.*Happy Pets Read Less

I have been taking my pets here for years and am extremely loyal to Dr. Morris. She is a kind, caring vet who takes her time, is never too busy to answer questions and also refers to specialists if she feels that would be a better option. Over the years we have had quite a few illnesses to deal with, some serious, and she has always come through. I cannot say enough good things about her. Carrollton West is not cheap, and the reception staff sometimes leaves me wanting for better but because of Dr. Morris I will go back there. She is simply great and I trust her judgement and care. A note on Dr. van Antwerp (""Dr. V.""): I agree with some reviewers here that her bedside manner is not the best. I personally never warmed up to her (and vice versa, I think). I don't know that she is a bad vet per se, she's never done anything harmful to my pets, but I just don't get the warm fuzzy feeling with her and so switched to Dr. Morris. After having a horrible experience at a emergency vet clinic in Irving my cat is traumatized visiting vets.  She gets so nervous she starts to drool and shed tons of fur. When I moved to the Carrollton area my sister told me about this vets office.  And I have been so happy she did!  The staff has been so friendly and helpful here.  They are so kind and caring with the animals that it has made it easier for my fur ball.  Dr. V has been so good through the years.A few years ago one of the buildings in my complex caught fire.  The cat from the third floor was badly burned and dropped to the ground.  I rushed the cat to my vet (this office) and there was a sign on the door saying they were closed due to having a company meeting.  (Now emergency vets do not open till after hours in Carrollton.)  The maintenance guy saw me waiting and opened the door and said I'll let you in to wait no need to be out in the sun.  I explained my situation and he went an interrupted the meeting.  THREE vets came out to help with the cat and were very caring and prompt.I am very glad to say that cat is healthy and it's owner very happy! When I REALLY needed them to treat my pet, their only option was killing ... Sorry I am so blunt but since I took my pets there for a quite a few years, that tells you I am not just throwing this in... The problem is that if you do not have major issues and just go for annual exams they seem OK (with all the minor things we all notice but decide to overlook...) and so when something truly desperate comes along you feel like you are alone, have no back-up plan and most importantly, you let you beloved pet down when it's most critical to save her... I would NOT recommend it to anyone who wants to give their pet a fighting chance.. my cat is alive and well almost 6 months after they wanted to kill her... could I have lived with myself had I taken that advice??? Even a month with your pet is worth trying, as long as they are not in pain and want to fight HOW can we take that away? Read Less

I can't understand how different people can have such different experiences at the same place, with seemingly the same factors involved. I have been going to Dr. Champagne for five years.  I moved to Carrollton and needed a new vet for my two cats, and they were the closest to my new place. But what a lucky thing it was! The staff at the front desk are lovely and helpful (Frasier is my favorite-always with the most fantastic energy!) Dr. Champagne might look young, but I have never had a more competent, devoted and compassionate vet. I have two Bengal cats, whom I adore, but in truth, they can be hard to handle for anyone who isn't me, especially the little one.Dr. Champagne has always bent over backwards to make sure they are stressed as little as possible: bringing the scale into the room rather than taking them to the scale, giving shots quickly and letting me hold them during the exam, since they are calmer with me than the tech. All this in-spite of the fact that they have bitten her more than once. The best example I have of the caliber of the whole place is when I adopted a cat who almost immediately developed a strange, neurological problem. Of course I had become very attached to him and was heartbroken. Dr. Champagne went above and beyond to try and save him, giving him special iv treatments and doing research on her own time with no charge to try and find the problem. When I had to make the awful decision to end his suffering, she held my hand and was so kind. The whole staff sent me a card a few days later and I will always be grateful for that. I would never hesitate to trust them with a pet's safety or well being.I have never been pressured to buy pet food or any treatments that were not needed. In fact, since the little one has a heart mummer, Dr. Champagne always recommends alternatives to pricey teeth cleaning to avoid the stress of putting her under. I haven't seen any other vet at this hospital, but I recommend Dr. Champagne wholeheartedly. Read Less

I have no complaints with the care my pets have received in the nine years I've brought them here. The staff are knowledgeable animal lovers who go out of their way to make our cats comfortable during their checkups. Dr. Champagne, our regular vet, is one of the kindest souls you'll meet. She has taken great care of my cat, recommending teeth cleanings as necessary but always giving alternatives to more pricey procedures. Like most vets, they do carry a recommended brand of food but I have never heard a sales pitch or recommendation to buy it as a form of treatment. My experience is markedly different from the other reviewers here so take all points of view into consideration when choosing medical care for your nonhuman family members. While I love my animals too much to board them at any veterinary hospital, Carrollton West has been an important partner in the regular health care for our pets. Read Less

Dr. Champagne is friendly and knows a lot about her field. However, I took my pet into get fixed and the receptionist confirmed my appointment with inaccurate information that could have been harmful to my pet. I found out from the vet prior to surgery that we had received the wrong information to prepare for surgery and I would have to come back another day. I came to pick up my pet that afternoon and found I had received some partial charges that I believe should have been comped for the trouble, but perhaps they wanted to get at least some money out of the visit!! I waiting almost 30 minutes for them to bring my pet to me from the back. What a hassle! No apologies, just a smart vet with an somewhat untrained front office staff. I'm going to do some research because there has to be better, and hopefully a less expensive alternative. Read Less

We have been taking our dog to Carrollton West Pet Hospital for about four years and have had plenty of other experiences elsewhere. We can tell you that this is one of the top quality vets in the Metroplex! The quality of care they extend to the animals in conjunction with the quality of love and concern they show to the pet and to the pets owners is exceptional and unequaled. Yes, we rave about this place but it is only because they have proven themselves time and time again. Someone once told me that "time will either promote a person or expose a person" and the same goes for organizations, businesses etc. We have applied that to CWPH and can see how it has promoted them. After moving to a different part of town, I had to find another vet.  I had read a bad online review of the one nearest to my new home, so I decided to try Carrollton West Pet Hospital.  It's still about fifteen minutes away, which can be inconvenient.  The first doctor (Dr. Champagne) was nice, but seemed very young.  We just went in for my dog's vaccinations, but I mentioned that he has always seemed to have stomach problems.  She decided to do a blood test rather than the shots until we found out the problem.  $200 in tests later, she found some "liver counts" to be low.  So she suggested a prescription food diet and some prescription medicines.  The medicines seemed to help, but the food wasn't making a difference (and it was extremely costly and could only be purchased at the vet's office, go figure).  Since we didn't pinpoint the reason that his liver counts were low, she referred me to a specialist.  Since he seems fine now, and because I am not a millionaire, I didn't contact the specialist.  I recently took him back for the rest of his shots and dealt with another vet this time.  This one suggested I get my dog a teeth cleaning, costing about $500.  Although they were both very nice, I was not impressed.  Most of the staff is friendly, but a few of the older ladies are quite ornery.  I wouldn't refer anyone here, because my pet is like my child and I think you should love and trust the doctor that you send your child to.  I was just not impressed.  I am considering trying another vet.

Read Less

I recently got an English Bulldog puppy. I was looking for a vet that understood the breed because they're ridiculously tricky. I was warned that vets will over charge you if they find out you have one because they're expensive breeds at a stupidly cheap vet. So I was nervous. Every single person I have met at CWPH has been absolutely amazing! They are ridiculously well priced even when I found out my puppy had some problems that needed fixing. I came out of there paying way less than I expected. I can't express enough how intelligent and caring everyone is there. They made sure I was well versed on the breed and informed me about some things I need to keep an eye out for. I'm sad that we're headed to Cali because I don't think I'll find a vet that I like nearly as much. I would recommend them to anyone and everyone!

You will not be disappointed. Read Less

Read Less

We used to visit this vet and although we really liked the staff we found many unnecessary tests.  Our dog had recurring ear infections.  Each time (every 5 weeks) we would have to visit the vet in order to receive medicine.  Each time it cost $150.  It got to where I couldn't afford to take him.  We found another vet who would just prescribe the medicine if needed instead of doing new tests.  The new vet also treated the infection so instead of it happening every 5 weeks it now happens maybe one time a year.

Morris. Now it's all good :-) Read Less

Read Less

I found out from the vet prior to surgery that we had received the wrong information to prepare for surgery and I would have to come back another day.
