Last week, our dog was overcome by pain and paralysis due to a problem with his spine. We hoped for the best and that the medications and the high grade pain killer would take and allow him to regain functionality. Unfortunately, our little guy quickly deteriorated for the worse--going from his typical energetic and happy-go-lucky self to being in constant pain and barely able to sit up when his hind legs stopped working. Within nearly a 24-hour period, we made the decision to end our 14.5 year-old puppy's suffering when it was apparent he would never recover from his condition. During this time, the staff at the North Texas Emergency Pet Clinic were there to hold our baby's paw every step of the way. They did everything they could think of to help our little guy, and they rushed to help him each time we called or came back as he worsened. I appreciated the staff's compassion and willingness to answer all our questions so we could make the best decision for our little man. We never felt pushed or pressured to make a snap decision, and they made us feel comfortable that we were making the best decision for our pal at the end. Though the clinic had services available for our dog's after-life care, they never pushed us into using them. In fact, they were more than willing to work with whatever directives or service providers we chose. We, of course, chose to use their services. The vet gave us whatever time and space we needed to say good-bye. She explained what could happen with our dog's body so that we were not shocked if anything did happen. Once our little boy was gone, the vet again offered us as much time as we needed to be with him one last time. The staff had never met us or treated our dog before this time, but everyone at the clinic treated our family as if we were part of theirs. We never doubted that our baby was in the best hands both toward the end and in after-life care. As well, the staff's thoughtfulness and compassion continued beyond his aftercare. As we trudged through the next few days without our buddy at our side, the employees checked in on us, sent us a card, donated a tree to a national forest in his honor, and kept us updated on the status of his cremated remains and other memorial items we had selected. Everyone at this clinic shows true empathy and understanding for families faced with making emergency decisions for their pets. We just can't recommend them, show them our gratitude, or thank them in any way that gets close to how highly we feel about their services rendered. While making final decisions for a valued four-legged family member is never an easy task, who we entrust to care for our babies' last moments should be clear: North Texas Emergency Pet Clinic.Read Less
