Last week when my husband and I were in town visiting our daughter and son-in-law, we found a small cat whom had crawled up into our rental car's engine. Thank goodness we heard the cat's cries before driving the car any further! After several hours of trying to coax the cat out of the engine compartment, we were able to free the kitty who was thankfully not harmed. Because we were from out of town, we were unable to keep the cat so we called over 15 local shelters, animal rescue organizations and local vets to see if someone could take in this sweet cat. Unfortunately we were turned away by all due to over crowding, and lack of space. Longwood Animal Hospital because of their close proximity to where we were staying was one of the first we called and they explained they could board the cat for 24 hrs but would have to give him all of the necessary preventive shots to protect staff and the other animals they care for and this cost would be my responsibility. They took down my name and number and said they'd call me back if they could figure something esle out. Honestly I didn't think I would hear back from them , but several hours later they indeed called me back and said to bring in the cat. Apparently one of their vet techs helps adopt out abandon/lost cats and would take in the cat at her expense. We immediately brought the cat up to Longwood Animal Hospital and the staff was so kind and helpful. It was very clear to us that this group of people truly love helping animals. The young vet tech who agreed to take in this cat was so loving and sweet to the cat and we knew we had found him a good place to recover and hopefully find his new family. Longwood Animal Hospital staff showed such humility and sincerity towards a helpless animal and It is abundantly clear that they truly care for the well being of animals, even when it's at their own expense. If my husband and I lived in the area, I would use Longwood Animal Hospital as my veterinarian of choice as I would know that they would be in great hands. Thank you Longwood Animal Team! Read Less

An earlier review stated "DO NOT take your pets here unless you want extra vet bills" -- and this is exactly right. We are so disappointed the high cost of unwarranted treatment as well as the unnecessary treatment that could have killed my dogs. They were given 200$ worth of unneeded immunizations during their boarding and we were charged for unrequested well-visits that had recently been performed at our actual vet. After meeting with the manager, we were reimbursed for the shots, and were given a discount for bathing . . . plus we got a lot of "talk" about how they plan to improve their handling of pets and office procedures. I am not satisfied with how the situation was handled, that my pets went through unnecessary treatment, that they could have been seriously harmed or killed, AND our bill that is still 70$ extra on top of it. There are far too many other facilities in the area to waste your time, money, and risk the well-being of your pets. Read Less

I just moved to the area last year and contacted four different vets in the area to take my dogs to. Longwood replied within a few hours and had an appointoment available ASAP. However, since day one I felt I was overly charged and in some cases they pushed unnecessary tests and treatments. Was charged $40 for trimming hair around the ear, most medications they offer are overpriced by at least 10%, the final straw was when they refused to give my dog heartworm medication without another test after being on medication for 6 months. Will look elsewhere for a vet service since profit seems to be the driving force behind this pet hospital. Read Less

I have seen behind the scenes there as well. The staff is very nice and my animals have been given the best of care. Very clean clinic as well. If I could give this place zero stars I would. Yes Dr. Jackson is a great vet. Seriously she is excellent vet and really cares about the animals. However, that's where the greatness stops. I worked in the back kennels when I say they don't treat animals right I completely mean it. If your dog barks the staff will sprint up to the dog and yell in its face which scares it simply into barking more so they yell more. Also we are supposed to put down fleece on the concrete so the dogs won't have to lay on harsh cement....this rarely gets done. 1) Most of them are dirty all the time because no one keeps up with laundry and 2) Everyone is too lazy too. Even if the dog is 14 years old with bone problems they will probably sleep on the cement. The outdoor area they get to use the restroom in is simply an outrage. It is ALWAYS nasty and smelly of urine and feces. Sometimes the poop doesn't get cleaned up and it is hosed off (for the urine) maybe once a week. I would never bring my dog here ever. For a vet check up, maybe, but even then the clinic staff are nice to your face but they WILL talk about you and leave notes on your account for everyone to laugh at behind the scenes. Be warned about this place. Never, EVER board your dog here. I used to work here I know. I quit because of the conditions and the level of lazy in this place. Do not board your dog here. He will be happy because he sees you and he is ready to leave this place! Read Less

Because of my job, I am in and out of many veterinary clinics, including in treatment, surgical and boarding areas. This clinic has a clear lack of cleaning protocols in place. The boarding facility is dark, hot and lacks fresh air circulation. There are an overwhelming amount of dog cages in the facility. Dogs go outside on a brick type patio to releave themselves is small dog runs that appear to rarely get cleaned. The block flooring is laid over top of dirt, so the odor eminates from the ground up. Aside from the boarding facility, I have noticed the surgical "suite" has hospitalized patients in it, and I have witnessed support staff coming and going during surgical procedures without any concern for sterility. There is evidence throughout the hospital of similar issues, but I do not have personal experience with any other situations. I would recommend asking this and any clinic I was considering for my pets for a tour of the facility. They shouldn't hesitate. Ask how some of the equipment works and evaluate their answers. Ask some "what if" questions... "What if my dog/cat should require hospitalization..." Take note of organization, and cleanliness of floors, tables, countertops, etc. Understand that you may have walked in during a hectic time and the trash can may be full, but the walls shouldn't show years of dirt, the counter tops should be clean, table legs shouldn't be filthy, etc. Clinics DO get dirty, but well managed clinics will be obviously well maintained, equipment will not be tangled up shoved in corners, etc. Although you may enter one dirty area because of a recent treatment, the overall clinic should be clean. Longwood Animal Hospital falls short in these areas. My pets will continue to go elsewhere. Read Less

I recently had an emergency situation, when my dog, Skippy, got a snake bite on his nose. Within an hour he became very lethargic (a Jack Russel), & his muzzle doubled in size. I called Longwood, they said bring him in immediately and ""the Vet is at lunch, but they'll call to tell her to hurry back"". So I took Skippy in and the vet called me later, went over everything thourougly and also let me know if... his swelling got worse, we would have to put him a facility that had all-night doctors, but luckilly it started to go down, so they were able to keep him for the night with an IV in his leg. Early the next morning, I went for a visit, his face was still swollen, but he was perky and happy to see me. The whole staff was so nice and very sympathectic. I brought his ""blankie"" from home & left it, but he was in a very nice cage that even had a little piece of fur cloth in it. When the Dr. came in at 8:00 am, she called me & went over the current status. I went back at 4:30pm and the criteria to take him home was to make sure he could eat & drink. Well usually Skippy is so freaked out at Vets, that he never eats, but when the Dr. saw he hadn't eaten all day , she consoled & patted him & within a minute he gobbled his food down. So the IV came out and I took him home, with antibiotics and pain pills. He had soiled his blankie and they even washed it. And the price, while priceless (like the commercial) was very reasonable. Overall everyone was so professional, but nice and kind to me & Skip. It's very obvious they all have a genuine love for animals and I'm just so glad that they were my regular vet clinic when we had this crisis. Read Less

I met Dr. Jackson while she was at an animal hospital in Humble, TX. She is far and away the most caring and professional vet I have ever known (and I have been through a lot of them.) We took my lab-mix Bear to see Dr. Jackson one night in 1998 after he ran into me and looked to have swelling on his head. After discussing his history with Dr. Jackson she thought that perhaps he had Masticatory Myositis. A biopsy later, we found our 2-yr old lab did have it. We began a series of predisone which we eventually weaned him off of once the symptoms disappeared.********** We had been through so much with our poor Bear, multiple visits to vets and emergency hospitals. In the 2 short years prior to meeting Dr Jackson, he was treated for every thing from colds, to flues and every conceivable allergy. Dr. Jackson went beyond the easy 'medicate and send them packing' attitude that is so pervasive in most vets today, she truly saved our beloved Bear.********** Bear is now 10, and as he has moved from regular to senior dog food, the symptoms have returned, and so has the prednisone, which we are told will be part of his diet from here on out. The good news is that bear is happy, something he never truly was as a puppy because of the pain of his condition. He only started going white in the past year, and can still run and play when he is inclined (which was never that much to begin with.) We have followed Dr. Jackson from Humble, to Telge, and on to Longwood, driving as much as an hour for vet visits.********** Unfortunately we have moved from Texas, and can no longer take our pets to the greatest Vet in the world. If you love your animals, and would give your heart and soul to have your animals as healthy and as happy as they could ever want to be, go see Dr. Jackson. She will forever be in my prayers for the time she has given to me and my best friend Bear.********** Thank you Dr Jackson Read Less

Read Less

This is the worst place ever. You take your animals here to die. We left our 14 year old cat (yes she was old) to be boarded for 8 days. The vet techs never saw that she was emaciated and completely dehydrated. They did NOTHING about it. IT wasnt until we took her back in to see Dr.Lee when Dr. Lee said well shes had a kidney infection for four months.

My dog even made a mess in their lobby and they rushed to clean it. This sounds like a complaint of an ex employee who is very bitter.
