I am brand new to the area (actually brand new to the state) and I am so happy to have found this place. This poor office has already (and willingly) seen my zoo three times in less than 2 weeks. Dr. Deresz has been very thorough with my 9 week old Chocolate Labrador which I appreciate as I am a crazy puppy owner. All staff we have come in contact with from front desk to vet technicians have been kind and personable. Metropaws has been so accommodating, once I found out indoo...r cats are also at risk of heart worm-I immediately made an appointment for the very next morning to bring in my cat (heart worm prevention isn't a must where we are from) I was actually late for my cats appointment due to a misunderstanding on my end and they still kindly took us back as soon as we got there even though I would have understood being rescheduled. Dr. Deresz is more than both our nuggets physician. He has become a part of our family as he has helped us through some scary moments with our fur babies. He has always treated us with the utmost respect and rather than try and sell services will ask what we are able to do financially. I am grateful for his kindness and knowledge when it comes to ensuring the safety of our animals. The staff here are also very friendly and eager to help from the moment you walk in. Their system automatically notifies you by email when it is time for renewals for vaccines, medications, flea & tick prevention, etc. We highly recommend his services and facility! Read Less

The clinic is clean and comfortable, the staff from receptionist to tech to vet are always so friendly and do a great job of removing anxiety from my dog during his visits.  They're helpful with providing info on other services or medicines my dog might need without being pushy by being understanding about shopping around for pricing. Yes the reviews are polarizing. Still, I thought this place would be worth a shot since it is so close to home. I was hoping for the best, but unfortunately got the worst. I have two healthy dogs who only needed routine vaccinations, yearly tests and preventative medications.The incompetency in all layers of the organization was astounding. From the tech who moved in slow motion and forgot to give my pup a much needed procedure to the pharmacy tech who didn't know how to fill out prescriptions correctly, the whole experience was entirely unpleasant. They never called to give me the results of my dogs' tests- I had to do my own follow up. I fill my dog's scripts at an online pharmacy in order to obtain a significant discount. They were hesitant to give me a written script, likely due to their dismay that I would not be priced gouged by their own. The whole process was painful to say the least.They were posting requests in their lobby to review their practice on yelp, so I hope they enjoy this review as much as I enjoyed their service. After only having my new puppy for 24 hours he started to display signs of Parvo. Having never visited a vet clinic in this area, I called the nearest one (Metro Paws Skillman) and it was (luckily) the best choice I could have made. I called ahead and discussed his symptoms and was told "Can you be here in20 minutes? I don't have any openings but we'll fit him in." It was exactly what I wanted to hear and we arrived 20 minutes later. We waited less than 10 minutes and were met by the vet tech KAV who explained to us she would test his for parvo first (which unfortunately he was positive for.) She spent plenty of time with us explaining not only the virus itself, but also the treatment options at their location, at a 24-hour location, and a home treatment option. We were then given time to choose and seen by the veterinarian who helped us make our decision. At the end we were billed (very reasonable for the treatment we were given) in private due to the contagious nature of his job, which I think was very responsible as we would hate to spread this horrible disease to any other dogs. To top it all off, I have received a phone call from the staff every other day since the appointment in order to check on his status and answer all of our questions. Wonderful people. You can really tell that they care about the people and pets that walk through that door. They actively listen, they communicate effectively, and work with you to find a solution to any problems you may have. I have went through two deaths with them, and each time they were respectful and understanding of what a troubling decision that is to go through. Their customer service is also wonderful, and they are always happy to take their time with you and explain everything thoroughly so you can make the best decision for purchasing medications and stuff like that. I am sad that I am no longer in the area and thus will not be seeing them again. Definitely recommend. Read Less

TOO LARGE OF A DOSAGE GIVEN TO MY DOGI have never written a review in the past, as you can tell from my profile, but the experience I had this morning at Metro Paws Animal Hospital was too alarming for me to remain silent.I gave my small dog her regular heartworm preventative but noticed as I was applying it between her shoulder blades that the dosage seemed to be more than usual. I discovered from the packaging (not the Metro Paws labeled ziplock but the actual packaging inside the ziplock) that it was for 15-20 pound cats... I called the clinic for guidance and was told to immediately rinse it off and bring her in.I was very worried knowing that my dog already suffers from seizures and is only 2 POUNDS. I was told that she would receive an exam and new medication free of charge. Then I learned that my dog should be fine because dogs can receive up to 10x their normal dosage and be okay. I'm not sure how accurate this is but it's common sense that a dosage for a 15-20 pound animal can be extremely harmful to a 2 pound one. Not to mention it was for cats, not even for dogs.The exam was completely half-assed (she just checked her eyes). I'm aware that my dog can be very squeamish but I have been a loyal customer of this clinic for years... it's not that difficult to exam a 2 pound animal that you're familiar with. Then the vet tech gave me her correct medication and said that I had to pay for it. After informing her that the vet said I didn't have to, I walked to the front desk and asked if they needed anything else from me. They too said I had to pay for the medication...So far, my dog is completely fine since I rinsed off the medication early on but this is evident:If you want to put your fur baby's well-being in the hands of unorganized people who cannot clearly communicate amongst themselves, this is the place for you. I brought my dog Chloe in for shots and flea medication. Walked out with knowledge and Chloe walks out with a toy. I got everything I needed and more from this place. The staff is super informative and friendly. Easy to trust. The best part was giving my pup this stuffed toy. Never seen her play with a toy so much. Read Less

I went to Metro Paws with my pup, Barkley, in hopes of fixing his broken leg. In the end, due to financial reasons our last option was to put him down until one of the loving technicians offered to take him under her care and get him his procedure done. This is the ONLY place I trust with my fur child! Luckily, my dog is very healthy, so I mostly utilize their boarding service. They also provide baths and nail trims, but not the entire grooming package. I always will get her nails trimmed here,  then take her to the groomers because I have had too many instances where the groomers cut her nails too short and cause me a vet visit/X-rays. Plus, no parent wants to see their dog not be able to walk due to negligence or carelessness!The entire staff is so friendly and accommodating. There was an instance where my flight was delayed a bit and they stayed open for me so I could get my dog that night versus waiting until the next day. They also send me updates on how she's doing or email me pictures to ease my mind (major separation anxiety). Overall, I would not take my dog to any other facility. They are great! Read Less

Josie had a tiny shard of glass in her front paw that's been plaguing her the past two days and we weren't sure if there was something still embedded. WARNING: THIS OFFICE PREYS ON YOUR EMOTIONS TO LURE YOU INTO SPENDING THOUSANDS ON UNNECESSARY TESTING AND TREATMENT.I had a healthy, happy indoor cat from a shelter for nearly a decade and hadn't been to a vet since the early years when we needed shots.Fast forward to 2016--my cat has lost a lot of weight and refuses to eat or drink--The vet basically gave me two options, either continue to spend thousands on testing to determine what is wrong with my cat or put her down. After the first $1,000, he deemed all these tests "inconclusive" and said the problem might be cancer or leukemia and made me feel like a horrible pet owner for being hesitant about spending any more money. After I told him I had run out of money for more tests he said, "If it were my cat I would do whatever possible to save her." I was devastated. I took my cat home because I wanted her last moments to be comfortable with her family who loves her. After some diet changes and a few force feedings, she's gained a healthy amount of weight back and her coat is back to its soft state! It's been several months since I was at Metro Paws and my cat has recovered beautifully without their involvement. I've discovered (on my own) that she just became allergic to dry food and refused to eat it long enough to give herself organ damage. This did not need all the extra testing, surgery, or fear-mongering. I'll never go back to this vet again and am now afraid of all vets. How can I re-gain trust of any vet after this first experience was so horrible? I just want other pet owners to be aware that Metro Paws response of "PAY US TO NOT FIX YOUR PET AND JUST KEEP TESTING OR PAY US TO PUT IT DOWN" is not always the only answer. Metro Paws Animal Hospital is a great place to take your pets. The front desk is very welcoming. The staff are very friendly, and they have always treated my dog respectfully. I've had great experiences with bringing my dog here. Often times, whenever my dog has an upset stomach or eats something unusual, they are very diligent with their diagnosis and thorough with any of your concerns.  They always do a follow up phone call a few days later to make sure your pet is feeling better. My one gripe is that they only do email reminders for annuals. My dog was a couple months overdue for his annual because they accidentally had the wrong email address under my name. I figured they would at least give me a call to make sure I would follow up with them. It wasn't until I was curious as to why I haven't heard from them in a while did I realize my dog was overdue. Additionally, the cost here is definitely a little higher than I would like but since my experiences have been very positive so far, I don't plan on finding another veterinarian. Read Less

These people are incredible! I love them. We came in at a busy time, but my little Dachshund had a terrible skin, hair issue. Had begun to scratch all the time. I couldn't sleep, and felt so bad for her. They were incredible. Caring. Helpful. Really.... I LOVE these guys. So great to work with. Very reasonable. My dogs mean a LOT to me. Great people, great service. Overall a great experience. Of note, there always is a complaint about cost. However, you are taking your pet to the Dr. They were very consciousness about pricing out each treatment and affiliated costs. They did not try to push expensive alternatives. I called Metro Paws in desperation after our 4 month old kitten somehow broke his knee playing too roughly. An emergency vet clinic warned not many vets in the area performed the required orthopedic surgery, and we should consider amputation. He recommended Dr. Lavender at Metro Paws if we wanted to save the leg, but when I called, I was told she was out of the office and leaving for vacation the next morning. However, the woman on the phone could tell the situation was dire, and offered to text Dr. Lavender. I got a call back within 30 minutes that the doctor was willing to come back in to perform the surgery. On her day off. And that I could drop him at any time and she would get to him right away. By 6 that evening, I had a text from Dr. Lavender informing me that our kitten's leg has some new hardware, but he should recover just fine. I am incredibly grateful to Dr. Lavender and Metro Paws for their kindness in this difficult time and will recommend them to friends in the future.Read Less

They treated me just terribly when I went there. It was so bad that even 3 years later I am still affected by it. Dr. Lavender and Sarapong are some of the most unfriendly people and the unprofessionalism there was unforgettable. I don't doubt that they are good vets but any sort of medical care comes with bed side manner to both patient and family memebers of which they DO NOT have! I went back to my other vet and have been so happy there every since. Thanks God my precious little dog Oliver was able to spend his final hours around people who loved and respected us both! I had high hopes for this place, but my experience does not seem to mirror most of the Yelp reviewers'.The actual vet seemed okay, but the front desk forgot things A LOT. First, I chalked it up to being busy, but then it just became an annoyance.What made us ultimately switch to a new vet? The techs (or whoever) were taking care of our cat while boarded for a week gave her the WRONG medication! They did not check the (labeled!) bottles, opened the brand new one (for emergencies only!) and gave that to her for a week instead of her already opened, daily medication.They did take full responsibility because everything was labeled and her files with her history was correct, but I was still livid. Isn't that a simple check you make before giving medication to an animal-to read the bottle? Read Less

My boyfriend and I have brought our pups here only since August. We have a very mischievous puppy who has had to make a couple emergency vet trips in the last month or so. Both times the staff was able to accommodate us and promptly get us in. The staff is very friendly and reassuring. We also find metro paws to be very affordable. We love and recommend Metro Paws. I think that Metro Paws is a great veterinary clinic, just not suited to my needs. I brought my 2 rabbits here for annual check-ups. The ladies at the front desk were really nice and friendly during every visit. We saw Dr. Lindsey Shipp, who was marvelous and knew how to handle my bunnies and keep them fairly calm while she examined them. One of my rabbits is very high-strung and fearful, so going to the vet with her can be stressful. About a week later, my other rabbit stopped eating, which was very scary, and we made 2 trips in a row to see what was wrong with him. They ran several tests each day, which ultimately came up inconclusive. I was also given syringes and Oxbow critical care to feed him with every couple of hours, an anti-nausea medicine, and instructions to dose him with Pepcid anti-acid. This information was listed on the medicine as well as on a print-out that they gave me, which was very helpful in remembering which medicines to give when and at what amount. The most terrifying thing about the situation was that Dr. Shipp was on vacation, so there was no resident rabbit vet there when I needed one. Fortunately my rabbit began eating again the next day.The whole situation was quite frightening, and it didn't help that the assistants assigned to us knew very little about rabbits. On one occasion I was asked if my rabbit had vomited. (fyi: rabbits physically can't vomit) In addition, we could hear dogs in the back yowling, whimpering, and barking very loudly from the exam room. Because rabbits are prey animals, those kinds of loud noises can be very stressful and frightening to them, which doesn't help when trying to examine them.Overall I would say that this is a good clinic, but I wouldn't recommend bringing your rabbit here. I plan to find a vet that specializes in rabbit care with more knowledgeable assistants and a calmer office environment to take my bunnies to. Read Less

Metro Paws is such a wonderful establishment, and all the staff really care about your pets. I've been taking my dog here ever since I got her as a puppy. The vets and techs are very knowledgeable and friendly, and they work hard to try to make both you and your furbaby has comfortable as possible. Plus, prices are affordable, especially for the puppy vaccination and checkup packages.My dog has always been pretty skittish at the vet. During our last visit for her annual checkup, she was clearly scared and squirmy. The techs and vet were very considerate and tried to give her exam as quickly as possible, so she was just fine once everything was done! Read Less

My baby Hurley and I will forever be in debt to Metro Paws and I say that in a good way - not like actual debt! Hurley is our 4yr old corgi-lab mix and we love her like she is our child. Unfortunately this past weekend she began behaving very strangely and letting us know she was not feeling well and was in pain due to not being able to urinate. We rushed her into the E-clinic and were barely helped because we could not afford their $4500 estimate. LUCKILY... Metro Paws was there to save the day. They opened at 8am and even took Hurley in before officially opening. Obviously a regular vet costs less than an emergency vet, but these guys KNOW THEIR STUFF and are GREAT at what they do! She had to have emergency surgery to relieve her bladder, which was clogged with bladder stones we had no idea existed. They called in a very practiced and talented Doctor who performed the surgery just in time to save our baby's life. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND METRO PAWS TO ANYONE!!! - At non-outrageous prices, they will absolutely be my pets vet as long as we live in Dallas! Read Less

ONLY ONE EXPERIENCE - BUT GREAT - would be 4.5 stars, if allowed. I, sadly, had to put my friend of many (13+) years down, and my vet is far from home. Metro Paws was recommended by a friend and close, so we went for my girls last appointment. The techs & doc were wonderful & caring - sweet & attentive to me and my girl. The room was not like an exam room, it was candlelit with a big bed for her. They gave me time to sit with her, before and after. I was not rushed. The only reason I did not give 5 stars was because the front desk staff wasn't overly welcoming - though I did not interact with them much. I know I was upset, but the techs and doc made a point to look past that and sincerely make eye contact and let me know it was going to be okay. Dr lavender is one of the most compassionate people you could ever meet, she truly cares about the people and pets she works with as do the rest of the team.
