I've been taking my dog here for a little over a year and i can confidently say that its the best experience i've ever had at a vet and groomer. The office staff is so nice and knowledgeable, you can tell they have your pet's best interest in mind, but won't blindside you with unnecessary fees and procedures. Absolutely wonderful! Don't hesitate, take your pet here. I no longer live in Tx, but I miss this vet so much. The doctor is one of those old school doctors who don't waste your time, and get straight to the point. I like that, he reminds me of Dr. Pol. He treated my cat's mite problem so that I didn't have to do it. As for his staff, there is no better staff. They are so sweet to your pet, one of the vet techs even cried when I told her that Kitty and I were moving to another state! I wish I could remember her name, but who does that!?! I took my "mature" lady cat (us ladies don't really like to be called older!) in for her check-up and saw Dr. Dolean. She and the tech helping her were simply fantastic at handling a skittish feline and very concerned with her comfort and welfare. This was my first visit to this clinic...my previous vet was just much too far away now. I came to this clinic because of personal recommendations and it was a great choice. Dr. Maxwell is the best! After taking my pet to see him I knew I wasn't going to find a better vet. From the moment I walked in the door to the time I left I felt welcomed, comfortable, and at ease. It's difficult to find an excellent vet for reptiles so I was a little tense going in with my snake, but the atmosphere made me feel a lot better. Seeing the cats who live there roaming around, the dogs hanging out with the staff, and the ball pythons in thier tanks made me feel content. I saw the tech first and she was fabulous! Asked me all the important questions and didn't hesitate to handle my guy. Then Dr. Maxwell came in and just jumped right in! No hesitation to examine a snake and truly knew what he was looking for! This place is wonderful.... Dr Maxwell, Kim and the rest of the staff rock. They take the time, even if they are busy to answer your questions and take care of your pets needs. My 3 pound poodle, Walker T R, had a stroke last June. I thought it was the end for him but Dr Maxwell didn’t give up on him. With prednisone, antibiotics and a lot of TLC, I still have him and he’s doing great. I also get him groomed here. Shelby does a great job. This is the best place to bring your fur babies! Read Less

I needed a vet for my son's turtle. This office came highly recommended by other reptile owners. I am so impressed with the office and medical staff. The tech saw us first to get the details of what was going on. He spent a lot of time with me and asked a lot of questions. He even talked to and smiled at the turtle. Then Dr. Maxwell came in and he too asked a lot of questions and spent a lot of time with us. I felt like we were the most important patients he has ever seen. He showed me how to look for signs of illness that could occur during the colder months. This office was a far drive for us but completely worth it. Having previously visited numerous other veterinarians to support the health of my cats, I will not think twice about going back to NTPH after my first experience with Dr. Maxwell.  This vet, unlike many others, does not appear to prioritize profits over care, comfort, and compassion.  The entry is warm, is open, and if you're lucky, one of the resident cats or some rescued cocker spaniels will greet you and sit at your feet.  The front desk staff were friendly, and a small but important detail is that they use hygienic padding on the exam tables so that they aren't simply cold, slick metal.  It may seem like a small detail, but it is clear that they keep the patient's comfort at the top of mind.  There is an obvious reason that with 741, now 742 reviews, this vet has FIVE STARS.  They are a bit further to drive for me, but well worth it.  We only use this vet from now on as opposed to the stark, sterile, profit-driven vets nearby that claim, even in their name, that they will save you money when they don't.  Thank you Dr. Maxwell.  Mitzy and I are grateful. Our Golden Retreiver, Geraldine, has hip dysplasia at the age of 8.  Dr. Maxwell suggested we use a new prodecure called Cold Lazer therapy.  The difference is amazing.  They did a series of treatments first, and now we take her in once a month or so.  She is moving around so much better and we notice the minute she has the treatment.You can buy a six pack at a time and then when you take your dog in for grooming just have them do a treatment.  Dr. Maxwell and his staff are absolutely amazing.  Geraldine loves to go there both for grooming and her vet needs.  Kim and Patti are her favorites.Thank you guys.Sue Holland Read Less

I have been bringing my pups to Dr. Maxwell for almost 17 years and he is always very caring and takes time to listen to any concerns you may have. When I had to make the tough decision to put my 18 year old dog down in early January Dr. Maxwell couldn't have been more caring. When he teared up as we let him go I knew that Diego had always had the best man taking care of him for the 16 1/2 years I was blessed to have him with me. Dr. Maxwell is a God send.  Our family dog Jack got doggy cancer, and Dr. Maxwell walked us through an incredibly difficult time. I found Jack as a pup before I got married. My wife fell in love with Jack. When we got married, he was our boy. Then we started having kids and Jack was our family pet/mascot.  He got to be there and love on our babies when they would crawl all over him and stretch his lips out so they could count his teeth or play with his ears. He was so patient and loving. Then he got sick.Dr.Maxwell helped us be realistic about his diagnosis. My second vet, I have ever gone to. Always nice and courteous. Moved to Arlington and brought my paperwork for my dog Lily. They wanted almost $300 for several shots. Came back and ask what exactly do I need and how much it cost here. And North tollway pet hospital said my shots are not due till several months later and only need 1 shot and some other stuff. Which was $100. Long story short, this place actually check to see what your dog need and does not try to trick you into unnecessary tests and shots. I have 3 fur babies. Cats. 2 of them were feral when I took them in. 1 remains feral (even after 10 years). I initially came to NTPH when my male was dehydrated and sick. They fixed him up in less than an hour and the cost was very reasonable. When my female (still feral) got a urinary tract infection, I knew I needed to get her in. It was hard to capture her. I can only imagine what the vet and staff went through with her. They were able to test her and give her a shot. She is doing very well, was not traumatized. I love NTPH! Read Less

Yesterday was my first time visiting this pet hospital and I gotta say I had a great experience. The staff was very knowledgeable and had great customer service. The Dr was great as well and made me and my dog feel at ease. We had a couple of routine tests and vaccines done and were out od there in about 30 minutes. The place is very clean and well kept . I am so impressed with NT Pet Hospital that I am writing this review because I think they completely deserve it. (usually I'm too lazy to write 'em)A week ago, I took my baby boy (doxie-mix) to Dr. Maxwell for his first appointment. He needed to get his shots, and I had some concerns about itching and a bump on his chest (test results say it's just a lipoma). It went great! We LOVE North Tollway Pet Hospital!!  We've been clients for 15+ years and have ALWAYS been pleased with the care and compassion with which Dr. Maxwell and his team treat our much beloved dogs.  He is one of the kindest people I've ever met, and he truly cares about his clients and patients.  He's an excellent diagnostician, and he's great at reassuring us about the health of our dogs.  One of our very expensive working/service dogs had some very unusual medical problems that required specialty imaging and testing at the large animal vet clinic. Dr. Maxwell didn't just refer us over there, he went with us to the appointment! Certainly he can't do that every time, but we were so incredibly grateful he was able and willing. It meant so much to us.Over the years we've had to say goodbye to three of our dogs, and there could not have been a more compassionate team helping us through those difficult times.  And when it came time to say goodbye to the service dog mentioned above, Dr. Maxwell and his staff shared our tears and helped us get through one of the hardest experiences in our lives.  Marlene, Esmeralda, Kim, and all the staff are the friendliest bunch, and they are always so helpful and kind.  Phyllis does a great job with the grooming of our Yorkie.  The North Tollway team is the best around, and we wouldn't consider going anywhere else!!  We're so grateful for all they do for us and our dogs! Absolutely the best pet care in Dallas! We've had 4 different pets cared for by Dr. Maxwell. From our little 4 lb. teacup yorkie to our 110 lb. Golden, our pets have had a wonderful experience with yearly as well as emergency care. The staff is so compassionate and professional. The boarding is excellent and the grooming in excellent as well. Can't say enough about this place. Dr. Maxwell's dogs are there to greet you and they will also ask you for a treat from the treat jar on the counter! - so cute! I can't figure out why there are any neg. comments. I have been going to Dr. Maxwell since 1999- that is 16 yrs. Their prices are what they are because they have the best equipment and facilities. You get what you pay for. I have never been so pleased to have a vet like Dr. Maxwell take care of my dog, Alley. Today I had to have her put down and even though Dr. Maxwell has only been Alley's vet for almost 3 years, I have never had such a humble vet as he portrayed today. He explained each procedure and how Alley would react and when she was gone, he didn't rush me and my twin, let us have as much time with my Alley and even stayed with us until she was gone and then gave us more time after she was gone. Amazing staff & the Vet himself is truly an animal lover & nurturing as is the staff. My 9 year old Jack Russell has always has uncontrollable scratching. I've was told by other vets to try certain grain foods, no grains, dye free shampoo, topical ointments, keeping him closely shaved....on & on. Well a fairly new medication (2 years or so I'm told) is Apaquele & I know I'm not spelling that correct. Well I'm elated to report that this works & they allow me refill after refill without making me pay for another visit every time. I couldn't have been happier with my experience! I brought my pregnant rescue kitty (Kahlan) in for the first time a few weeks ago and expected the usual vet experience; rude receptionist, disinterested staff and a rushed Doctor. However, I was more than pleasantly surprised when I got the exact opposite. The staff was all wonderful and clearly loved animals and their jobs, and the vet took so much time with me and my cat, answered all my questions and treated me like a long time patron. Really like this place! They gained my trust after they let me take my fur baby Sir Winston in the same day after he had a horrible allergic reaction to a rabies shot at another clinic. Dr. Maxwell and the entire staff were so kind to me and my fur baby that they earned a loyal customer from me. We had never been to this vet before, but it was the closest one to our location so we rushed in when our dog Bella appeared to have had a stroke. We were prepared for the worst but once Dr. Maxwell began his exam our fears were slowly put to rest. He is the most polite and straightforward vet I have ever come across. He was not trying to rip open our bank accounts or jump to conclusions, he remained calm and gave us A-D scenarios as to what could have happened. We had blood work done and everything came back pretty normal so he diagnosed her with vestibular disease which we believe now was caused by a severe ear infection. All in all we spent roughly $300 for an exam, full blood work with electrolyte readings and a 6cc shot for a 113 pound dog. WAY lower than any of my expectations. Money is not a factor in my dog's health, but man it sure did help the cause when I only had to pay $300. Dr. Maxwell, the front office staff, and his vet tech Rob were the kindest people I have ever met. I just can't put into words how amazing my experience was at this pet hospital in an emergency situation like ours. We will now be calling north tollway pet hospital our new vet home and I will recommend them to everyone! Thank you thank you thank you. Dr. Holland was most unimpressive when I took my cat in immediately upon their opening. Knew I was there upon opening and let me wait 45 min. She was vague and spent all of five min with me and my cat and the bill was ridiculous...twice that of other other vet clinics for several items such as shots and such a brief office visit after being left to wait. And I only went there due to proximity as I was so worried about my cat's condition. If I had known they would make me wait so long even tho I was the first person there right as their doors opened and then charge such high fees for such low quality care from Dr Holland (she didn't sound like she knew what she was talking about, and certainly took no time to explain my pet's condition, care or reason for shots specified etc), I would have done much better to have gone to Parker Animal and Bird Clinic. Also, the office staff was condescending. One middle-aged, female front desk personnel didn't think twice about being a total smart ass to me. Another older female who sat at the desk for the animal boarding section of office was downright hostile on one occasion. Both nasty encounters were completely unprovoked as I was most kind and professional and only concerned for my cat. Dr Maxwell is great and made apologies for his staff, one of whom admitted to him they should not have talked to me in such a way. But I am soured to this office completely now. And I would never recommend this office, despite Dr. Maxwell. An animal clinic is supposed to care for the animals and human clients in ALL respects, and uphold the most professional and caring behavior at all times, particularly when charging such premium prices. The groomers are terrific. My mini schnauzer and Maltichon look fantastic. I also greatly appreciate that they don't use heavy perfumes or scents. Being sensitive to perfumes, more often than not I've had to bathe my dogs after bringing them home from other groomers. I will definitely be going back. Read Less

Wanted to pamper my baby and so I walked in with him and asked for rates. They gave me a decent number, then, saw him and gave an obscene figure after asking the breed. ($120 for bath and brush?!?) This is the dog I trust with my toddler wrestling on the floor with daily. How can you call yourselves animal lovers? Smh, all these little dogs I've seen in and out of there over the past 3 years I've lived in the area but they're afraid of one gentle giant. BREED DISCRIMINATION!When my in laws bring their minpin and my parents bring their Weimaraner they refuse to take them to this place. Our dog is like another grandchild to them and it really P'd them off to hear this story. They live in small towns where there isn't a groomer so their babies get pampered when they visit Dallas about 4x a year. Read Less

We have had all wonderful experiences except for the most recent..we took in a stray cat out of the snow took the cat there for first exam and was told cat was a girl! We waited a few days and had cat boarded there and made the decision to have cat fixed there along with declaw so cat was only put under once! We get a phone call after surgery told she was a he and already fixed after cutting open the cat! They tried to justify the mistake by saying it was smallest male part they have ever seen! We also got a huge bill because it was no longer a double surgery except for they did cut open the cat! This is beyond morals and have a problem that dr holland had to call someone else in to try and locate the uterus. They say cat was unruly but yet we were in the room for first visit were vet said it was a girl! The cat was scared but vet was able to look for scare from possible fixing previous to us! So if was the case and you were uncertain don't you think you'd double check while cat was under for another surgery before playing anatomy class on a poor rescued animal! They have admitted fault by person at front desk telling us she was called in to locate a uterus on a male already fixed animal! The money isn't the issue its the principle of not knowing basic anatomy of male and female on an animal! I've been bringing my dog Kodai here for over two years now. They always take such great care of him. Most animals hate going to get groomed. Not Kodai! He's so excited to go he's jumping for joy when he gets in the car. I can't stress how important it is to have great people taking care of my son...er dog. I've been using North Tollway Pet Hospital for over 5 years, I have several pets, who all have special needs (2 snakes, 1 dog, 3 cats.) I would not trust ANYONE else with the lives of my pets. All the staff there really takes time to FIND out whats going on, and the Doctors are BEYOND amazing. I am sad to see some bad reviews. I feel like some of them leave things out, the just want to complain in some cases. I realize it is going to COST me money to have my pets taken care of. That is part of the responsiblity of being a PET OWNER. I even called around a few weeks ago just to compare prices, and this clinic is right on cost with alot of the other vets in the area. I will keep using North Tollway Pet Hospital- because it's hard to find a vet that CARES as much as the doctors here do.[BTW, Dr. Stramel doesn't even work there anymore!! I'm not usually the one to sign up for one of these things, but felt compelled to share my experience. I'm glad others have had good experiences at this vet. I wish I could say the same thing. I'm relatively new to Dallas and was referred to North Tollway by another vet that couldn't see my cat. My 12 year old orange tabby Kitty started limping on his left leg all of a sudden. I took him in to North Tollway and saw Dr. Pupp. She determined his limp was caused from a cat bite, which was ludicrous to me but I will spare you the details (indoor cat with very limited contact with other cat in the home). I was sent home with pain meds for him & told to come back if it didn't get better. 2 days later I had him back in for xrays because he wasn't better. They determined the xrays to be 'inconclusive' and told me they didn't know why he was limping. Kitty was a big boy so he had a problem fully digesting the sedative. I took him back to this vet for a third time because he wasn't eating alot and was not drinking water at all. I saw Dr. Maxwell then. Dr. Maxwell was very nice, but also could not offer any explanations of why my cat was limping, despite the xrays and radiologist report. He said there were some small 'mineral deposits' on his spine but wasn't worried about them. During this visit even the vet tech noticed Kitty was limping much worse than he was 3 days before during my first visit. Kitty had a good weekend that weekend so I didn't take him back. I still wasn't satisfied with the diagnosis, so I made him an appointment to go to the Cat Hospital of Dallas. Dr. Weldon read the same xray & radiologist report performed by North Tollway. She also noted that he had lost a lot of muscle on his rear left leg and was concerned. She said the radiologist was also concerned by something on the xray. She recommended I take him to the Dallas Veterinary Surgical Center for more tests. Long story short, the DVSC determined my cat had a hard mass in his colon, inside his pelvic cavity. The sciatic nerve was dangerously close to the mass, and therefore caused him to lose the nerve, muscle and use of his left leg. DVSC determined all of this from looking at the same xray completed by North Tollway, along with a rectal exam. A biopsy just wasn't possible due to the location of the mass, and surgery to remove it would be too invasive and painful to my cat. I had to have Kitty put to sleep on 3/26/12. I am very disappointed that North Tollway made light of my cat's very serious condition and the only treatment they offered were steroid shots. I am disappointed that he had to suffer because of their inability to properly diagnose him. He would still be suffering had I not been diligent in finding answers myself. Read Less

Dr. Maxwell has the best bedside manner of any vet that I have ever visited. Other vets in the practice wil come and go, (YEAH!) but Dr. Maxwell is always there when I need him. I agree with the other review that some vets in the practice are not nearly as friendly, but Dr. Maxwell is AWESOME! Read Less

We have been going here for our two dogs and one cat for the past five years. Dr. Maxwell is who we usually see, and occasionally his partner Dr. Stramel. Recently our dog started to yelp in pain with any sudden movements and when we called we were told that we would have to see Dr. Stramel. After $600 worth of X-rays, lab work, and a very short 10 minute visit we were told that despite our dog eating and going to the bathroom with no difficulty, we were told that he most likely had an obstruction and that he needed ""exploratory surgery"". In addition, Dr. Stramel had terrible bedside manners, showed no compassion to our dog, and one of his employees even apologized for him and said that he ""makes up for his bad bedside manners with his surgical skills"". I am a surgeon (for humans) and I can assure you that there is no place for the kind of arrogance that Dr. Stramel displayed towards us. In fact, he was completely off base with his diagnosis. Bottom line, there are many many other very good and reputable, not to mention compassionate vets out there for your pet that you don't need to take your loved family member to this place. Read Less
