Dr. Freund and (most of) his staff are AWESOME. I had to use another vet for a while when I couldn't get in with him for a last-minute/urgent problem; the other vet is closer to me & had some other plusses (staff related), but after a few weeks I realized the care at Dr Freund's clinic is better, and he doesn't gouge you on the bill either. Dr. Freund and his staff always go above and beyond for our furry family! We were there yesterday for our two dogs and I mentioned a respiratory issue that our new kitten was having. I took my mini schnauzer puppy in because he was vomiting and had diarrhea. The clinic was able to do a same day appointment, and I was very grateful for that! Something went horribly wrong...The Coronado Animal Clinic was recommended by a friend and had good reviews, so I decided to take my best friend Riley here. I believe our first visit to the clinic was in May 2017.I took Riley, a 7 1/2 year old Maltese, for a problem he was having with his hair initially and also to monitor a collapsing trachea and heart murmur. My initial visit was for what was diagnosed as folliculitis, and Riley was being treated with antibiotics and was showing improvement, then on June 22nd we went for a follow up visit on the folliculitis and I asked the doctor's opinion on what to do to help with his collapsing trachea, which was causing increased coughing at times. (In the past with another vet, it was recommended to give him hydrocodone syrup or isoproterenol, which helped subdue the coughing...but new this was something that he and I would have to live with as a remedy.) On 6/22 after, ruling out that surgery might be an option but not necessarily a cure, Dr. Freund recommended a compound medicine that was developed by Auburn University called " Auburns Collapsing Trachea Solution Suspension " that supposedly had great success with other pets with a collapsing trachea...so I decided to give it a try to help Riley. The only side effect per the doctor would be drowsiness. I took the prescription to McCrory's Pharmacy as recommended by the doctor. I picked up the prescription from the pharmacy on Friday, 6/23 and the pharmacist also noted that drowsiness would be a side effect. We had a good weekend on so no medication was needed. After having a little coughing spell on Sunday night I decided to try the new prescription on Monday morning before heading to work. Riley always goes to the office with me daily. So around 6:15am I gave Riley his first dosage the this compound formula that was recommended...by 6:45am Riley died in the car on I-10 on the way to work. Needless to say I was sad and angry that he went before his time, by something that was suppose to help him, with the only side effect being drowsiness...but killed him within minutes. I can only assume that one of three things caused this unfortunate death.-possibly Riley wasn't a good candidate for this compound formula-possibly a problem with the compound formula, but was assured it was formulated correctly -possibly the recommended dosage was too highI'm still looking for answers for this unnecessary tragedy...but I'm finding none, and may never!RIP Riley....I'm so sorry. My dachshund, had to have back surgery. The Doctor explained everything in detail and I was so scared. The entire crew did an excellent job. Not only did they take care of my baby but they took care of me also. Very kind and professional. Been bringing my dogs and cats here for more than a year now. Dr. Freund was recommended to me by a friend from the dog park so I gave him a go. 1st, I took my Malinois puppy who was a bit over exuberant. The dr got her under control in seconds and even recommended a trainer (which we did end up hiring). We took our rescue shepherd mix there, our older cat (who got cancer and unfortunately had to be put down) and now, our two newest cats. We've gone there for routine vaccines, two spay surgeries, and one cats cancer. The spay surgeries were the best I've ever seen. Tiny incision that looked healed in days! Routine vaccines are done quickly and efficiently. They caught our cars intestinal cancer, but there was nothing to be done about that, unfortunately. They've never tried to over charge or add on anything unnecessary. All the folks who work there have been friendly. I now recommend this place to all my friends. Read Less

Best Vet clinic I found after moving from Germany to El Paso. All my own dogs and those who I rescue from time to time are seen by Dr. Friend and his staffs The staff are always friendly and understanding. I feel like they know how people worry when it comes to their pets. Never had any problems to get an appointment or had to wait long to be seen by Dr. Friend Dr. Friend is amazing. He believes it is not necessary to force my dogs on an exam table, but he and his staff take care of what needs to be taking care of by all sitting on the floor. This alone is amazing to me and makes my dogs feel a little more comfortable. All my concerns and questions are acknowledged , answered and if I don't understand a certain procedure, Dr, Friend takes time to really explain so I'm able to understand what happen next to my dogs.I never have the feeling there is no time for me or my dogs. The clinic is never overbooked, maybe in the late afternoon you have to wait a little longer, but I believe that is just the time of the day when people are off from work. The prices at Coronado are average and I can't complain. I never have the feeling that they try to sell you stuff , like tests or meds, what is not necessary. I just recently had an emergency where I had to take one of my dogs to a different Vet , and that was just horrible. Overpriced and nothing was actually done to my dog. My children's hamster had an extremely bad issue with his eye. It was difficult to find a vet that would see a hamster and two of the three that could, were out of town. They made a quick and easy appointment, even late in the day. The staff was helpful and the vet really cared about what he was doing for us. We walked out hoping his diagnosis was correct, not to be rude but you usually get what you pay for and their rate was amazingly great. One day later my children's hamster is doing noticeably better. I have been going here with my past 4 dogs which is roughly a good 10-15 years I believe. Most of the ladies in the front are very nice! They always get you in quick and the vet is very good at his job he very obviously love animals and gets the diagnosis rather quick! Any questions you have he will answer quickly and thoroughly to get you in and out with all the answers or medical attention your pet needs quickly! As much as it is against my ways to do review like this, unfortunately, today, I have to. The vet here examined my cat and told me his stool was very firm. He mentioned rather nonchalantly that he needed to eat wet food. No emphasis on its importance, said as if it was something that was preferable, not nessecary. This is February. Today, I took my boy to a different vet (I did not have the funds to pay for what I needed at Coronado, I only had a credit option) because he was having a very hard time passing stool. His belly was hard as a brick, and he would yell at my if I touched him there. He was in a lot of pain. The vet I took him to told me he was suffering from megacolon and needs to eat wet food very frequently. The vet stressed heavily how important that he eats wet food every single day. The vet here did mention he needed to eat it, but he did not tell me that if I became obstructed he could die. He mentioned he might need surgery if he became very blocked, but never stressed that it was very possible that my cat could die. He almost died today. His bladder became distended from the amount of stool. His urine was festering and he developed an infection. My boy could have died today because of two things: 1) I failed my cat and did not feed him the diet he needs. 2) This vet didn't stress how important that it was that my boy eats wet food. He did not stress it in the way that I, a person who does not understand the digestive tract of a feline, could understand. This is why I give this review. It is not to condemn this practice, but it is a warning. Always ask for specifics here. You may end up on my position if you don't. Read Less

Dr. Freund is an extremely caring and professional Vet. He has been taking care our dogs for over 16 years. He also takes care of my daughters 3 dogs here locally and my other daughters 2 dogs that live in San Antonio when she comes to visit. Dr. Freund even went to the trouble of making sure my daughter in San Antonio was set up with a colleague of his in case she had an emergency. Her dog had an emergency and not only did he help her out immediately, his fees were extremely reasonable since San Antonio is 3 times higher than El Paso. Dr. Freund always takes the time to discuss your pets situation in detail no matter how busy he may be. The office and exam rooms are spotless and appointments are always a breeze. I have 9 dogs and all of them come here for anything from shots to sneezes. Dr. Freund is an amazing  Vet. Great with my animals.  Even had a lot of surgeries done and i remember the first one lime it was yesterday.... I've been to almost every vet clinic in El Paso. North east, east side, multiple west side vets, and I have to say the best experience I have had so far is at Coronado Vet Clinic. The staff is friendly and helpful. They offer services at prices much lower than anywhere else in El Paso. Teeth cleaning here $120. Elsewhere? $400 + no thanks. Also there is one doctor that deals with your pet as opposed to five different ones. He is also not afraid of big dogs like some vets. Great place definitely will be a repeat customer.Read Less

I am terrible at keeping appointments and this place was able to squeeze me last minute. However, I was not fully satisfied. I'm giving them three stars because their customer service was poor. I have 2 large dogs that were anxious as soon as we arrived. The vet tech got on my case about them not keeping still while handing me paperwork to fill out. Not just that but she also expected me to weigh each one of them. Hmmm... I'm pretty sure that's in her job description to do & I could have used the extra hand. My dogs are my babies & it bothers me when people can get their names right especially if they are going to give them vaccinations. The vet tech must of asked about 3xs which one is which after I  had written both of their names and descriptions down for her. I was scared that she was going to give my dogs the wrong vaccines! I absolutely love it here! The staff is very efficient. They aren't trying to make money off you, they're there to help your pet and get you on your way. I take all my pets there. I've been to other vet offices and they just try and charge you for every little thing. This office has a lot of staff on board but everyone there knew why each pet was visiting. I was very impressed. The eastside wanted to charge my grandma 594 for her dogs teeth cleaning, mine got hers cleaned and a tooth taken out for 101!!! I really love this place. Read Less

I wanted to like this place, and I gave them a few shots. Moving in from out of El Paso, I took to Yelp to help find a vet I would feel comfortable taking my dogs and cat.The staff was unfriendly. They were unfriendly when I called to set up the appointment- they asked me nothing about the animal I was bringing in, and when I started to explain my problem they cut me off, told me when my appointment was, and rushed me off the phone. I though maybe they were busy.When I went in, the staff was again unfriendly. They checked me in with hardly a word and avoided eye contact. The doctor was nice enough, my cat's issue was fixed, etc, however the doctor was in and out of the room in seconds. Nowhere in my visit did I feel like the doctor or staff had an interest in me or my pet other than getting us out the door as quick as possible and with limited interaction.They weren't awful- It was very easy to schedule an appointment, and their prices were more than fair. I was satisfied with the doctor's handling of my cat's problem.I tried a second time, just to see if they were having an off day, and received the exact same service. Unfriendly, impersonal, and cold.Having had multiple vets with friendly welcoming offices, and caring, interested doctors, this place is not for me. Cannot say enough good things about this place! The staff is awesome, and the doctor is so caring. He honestly cares about your animals more than your bill! He has never overcharged me for anything, and my dogs are in there all of the time. He is cautious but also realistic, and only does what is necessary. I highly recommend this facility. I brought My cat here for a skin condition and was very happy with the service. They got me straight back to a room and the doctor was very patient and methodical about making sure I understood the condition and possible causes. My cat didn't even flinch when he received his shot. I didnt have my cat leash on me so a tech wrapped leo up in a blanket and took him back out to the car for me just in case he got spooked on the way. I went to this clinic with my friend for a kitten check, and the staff was able to squeeze him in without an appointment, they were helpful and friendly right away.When the doctor came in, we mentioned a few different things, 1st the kitty had ear mites, which they flushed out at the office, without sending us home with a treatment that would certainly have an additional charge without mentioning the extra work. I was pleased.After we asked about toxoplasmosis. The doctor was patient enough to explain the history of the illness, and ways you can get it and how to avoid it. We asked if we should test the animal, and he could have said sure, and made more money, but he was honest and said his advice would be the same either way.Lastly, I also am familiar with feline leukemia and feline aids. The kitty came from a unknown location, I figured it would be good to know and take the test. Again the doctor could have given us the go ahead to make a little more money, but he said it was unnecessary. The kitty can live a long life with leukemia but if he has aids, he would probably die early in life, and that is something that would just naturally come up. Since she does not have other kitties the test is unnecessary.I was very happy with the overall experience, everyone was patient and informative even though we bombarded them with multiple questions! He has a great way with our two dogs. His staff can give an injection without Biscuit even noticing, and she's been afraid of doctors since she had a couple surgeries when she was younger.He explains things well so we can consider all the options for our dog's medical and health care.He and his staff are friendly, easy to talk to and efficient.
