I am fairly new client with four dogs and was on the hunt for a new Vet closer to my home and more importantly with less wait time in the lobby. The less I have to wait, shows that this clinic is well organized and always plans for the unexpected to happen. Dr. Klein and Dr. Hopp are a very dedicated team to their customers and their community. The staff are very attentive, friendly and explain things well. I had to put down our 8 year old ferret. He was older and had dropped weight, stopped eating and was suffering. The staff here was understanding and caring in such a difficult time. They allowed me to be in the room and hold him as he passed. They allowed me to take him home so we could bury him and say our goodbyes. This was the best vet I have ever been to. The staff is extremely friendly, the waiting area and exam rooms are very clean. The waiting room was kind of small. We had the pleasure of sharing the room with two very rambunctious bull dogs who scared my son. The actual doctor was great. He explained everything, asked a lot of questions, and answered all of mine. When test results came back he explained them and gave me options on what to do next. I would highly recommend this place. I cannot say great enough things about Dr. Klein. Every time we go in, she always asks about my crew as a whole, regardless of who I'm bringing in. We originally started going to Desert East because of one of my ferrets. The vet I was originally taking them to wouldnt listen to anything I said and basically demanded that I spend several hundred dollars on what I knew to be a useless test and then expected me to pay hundreds more for medication. One visit from Dr. Klein and my boy was on the medication he needed to be on. Since then, she's basically saved a couple of my pups' lives - both senior dogs. One had a neck fracture from being stepped on by a bigger dog. The ER vet said he wouldnt last the night when we took him home, that was 3 years ago. Under Dr. Klein's loving care, he not only survived... he regained full mobility. The other had picked up a blood virus from ticks some time before we adopted her that had laid dormant in her system, we caught it right before she had any symptoms.She takes phenomenal care of my fur kids and I cant love her enough for it. She goes above and beyond to make sure that not only are my fur kids okay, but that I'm okay with whats going on. She *listens* to what I have to say because - as she's told me before - I know my pets best. I know when something isnt right. My family and I absolutely LOVE the staff and Veterinarians but we hold a very special place in our hearts for Dr. Klein. She has been our veterinarian for 14 years and we trust her completely. We have been through a lot in 14 years with Dr. Klein and her staff. From checkups for new members of the family to saying goodbye to our beloved fur babies. Her commitment to the health of our kids is outstanding. She is so kind, understanding and does a great job of explaining what is going on with our babies. I cannot recommend Desert East Animal Hospital enough. Seriously, after the horror show I encountered over at the Far East Animal Care Center, I wasn't sure a place of this caliber existed in El Paso. But I am so happy that I found this wonderful Vet!A few things to know:1) It's a walk-in based clinic, so I would recommend planning a little extra time when you go, and not having any hard deadlines directly after your planned time slot, just in case.2) Their parking lot can be a little dicey in the rain, mainly with water flow and the angle of the driveway. I have an SUV so I had no issue, but it's just another thing to keep in mind if you drive something that's not great in the rain. When I was pulling out, there was someone in a Challenger (notoriously awful in rain) pulling in and they definitely skidded a bit. Other than that, I really only have great things to say. I interacted with two separate vets, both of whom were extremely kind, professional, and knowledgeable. All the staff I interacted with were just over the moon about my cat, saying how cute she was, how beautiful, etc. They put my cat so at ease she wasn't nervous at all--in fact, she wouldn't stop begging the first vet for treats! Little piggy!When I had been waiting in the lobby area, I saw a few people get called in before me, and noticed that the vet techs were all extremely caring and kind to each of the animals that they took in to the exam rooms-- from the tiniest kitten I had ever seen, to a very hefty pitbull-looking dog. The appointment fee is also very reasonable-- $46 for a standard office visit. After what I saw when I brought my kitty here, I would recommend this vet without hesitation to anyone searching for reliable, thoughtful, thorough veterinary care for their fur baby! Read Less

We took our ferrets and dogs to Dr. Klein for years before moving out of the city. She is by far the most knowledgeable ferret vet in town! She is so caring and has a lot of experience. When my dogs got nervous, she talked sweetly to them so they felt more comfortable. Every visit, she looked at eyes, teeth, ears, listened to the lungs and heart and felt for abnormalities in my ferrets abdomens. I went to other places that just asked how the animals were doing and if I said "fine," they didn't do any of these things. She takes the time to talk with you and make sure she addresses all your concerns about your animals. My ferret got really sick and I felt so much better knowing that I had Dr. Klein to figure out what was wrong. She doesn't charge for unnecessary procedures. She will teach you how to do things like trimming nails if you ask her. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Klein. I would recommend her for any animal, especially exotic pets! I've gone to Far East Animal Hospital, Adobe, Montana Animal Clinic, and a location in the northeast, and Desert East is by far the BEST! Read Less

I literally want to give them not one star. Took my pup in today because he was in so much pain( his yelps were too loud to handle) We didn't know what was happening to him. We took him to the animal hospital where they turned us away (with my pup in our hands crying). And told us that all the vets were out for lunch. You're an animal hospital and not one person was available? No offer to help, said there was nothing they could do, not even concerned for the hurt animal in my arms. Ridiculous Read Less

Today me and my husband had to put our baby puppy to sleep because of distemper. We had to think of all our options before we made this hard decision. We wanted to be somewhere that the staff were compassionate and he wasn't just another dog. The desert east animal hospital really were genuinely compassionate and sincere about how hard it was to do this for our animal. They were warm and kind and made sure we had all the time we needed with him. Dr Klein was sympathetic and genuinely seemed to care about us and our precious baby. Been going here since the late 80's early 90's..... My little girl(boxer) went in with one problem passed away from being over medicated. I've had four dogs pass away under their care. They love run every test under the sun, but don't have a clue how to treat sick dogs in my experience. Should be a preventative clinic not a hospital. Read Less

Desert East literally saved my puppy's life!I'd taken Mika to another vet when she kept throwing up and had this nasty smelling diarrhea (tmi?), and vet missed it.  The other vet kept her overnight with an IV, but when I got her back she was still barely animated. At a friend's recommendation I brought her to desert east at 745am. There were two other dogs waiting when we got there, and another 4 came in during our 20 minutes wait. The vet quickly diagnosed her with parvo and was super comforting when I broke down in tear.  She gave me a box of tissues (I think I used them all - sorry!), and gave me a few minutes alone with Mika before checking her in for 3 nights.  I was sure she was going to die. I got a phone call from the vet that night with a status update, and another the next morning.  Even when they were closed over the weekend a vet called me back to let me know how Mika was progressing.  When I went back on the fourth day Mika was so excited she literally almost fell out of my arms!   And the bill was only like $450 for 3 nights, IVs, meds, and all of the vets attention.  The vet tech was also super friendly and clearly loved the dogs he took care of. These people really seemed to care about your pets and did everything they could - and brought Mika back to life!! Read Less

We took our dog to a few other vets because she was sick and she was misdiagnosed every time, causing prolonged pain to my dog and added expenses  ($2600)  We took her to this Vet and immediately she was diagnosed with puppy strangles and medicated properly and is now 100% better. We then decided to only use these vets for our dogs and they have been nothing short of amazing and professional. They have great prices and give amazing advice. Our cat was pretty sick when I walked into their clinic with no appointment, and could not have gotten better service anywhere else! They were knowledgable, kind, and compassionate with my cat's illness. My cat was there for almost a week, and they let me come visit him, which was amazing! Visited the Hospital for the first time yesterday. I have been to several hospitals in the area and the service can't compare. There is usually a moody receptionist or a can't care less technician followed by an invisible doctor barking instructions from behind the doors. That was definitively not the case here. Desert East Animal Hospital is AWESOME!! I have been taking my ferrets to Dr. Klein for over 13 years now and I simply would not think of going anywhere else! She is very knowledgeable, truthful, and compassionate. I have also seen the wonderful level of care that Dr. Hopp and Dr. Nenni provide to other pets. As an owner of three rodents i had a terrible time finding a vet that was experienced in treating rodents. i decided to take a chance with this clinic and i do not regret it. i only had to wait 5 minutes before i was seen! awesome. i love that nobody mentioned anything about cost or payments until AFTER the visit. They put my animals before the money which is amazing. Qualified Veterinarian: Very tentative, caring and knowledgable. I've seen them treat birds, dogs, cats, ferrots, rodents and rabbits. My 4 pets ( & others who has passed away) have been clients of Desert East for over 10 years. The facility is extremly clean. My pets have used the kennel facilities at Desert East and are always well taken care of. NOTE: Be sure to call in ahead of time to choose the kennel of your choice. I personally like the larger kennel so that my pets can board together. Be sure to call ahead of time if you are requesting a specific doctor (they do have a doctor who specialized in birds). They also stock Science Diet Supplies, collars and leashes ( a complimentory leash is provided if you forget yours- But it is not fancy). They do surgery on certain days so be sure to call ahead of time to schedule. FYI: They will take in injured birds; they will contact El Paso's wildlife bird sanctuary for pick-up. Also, be sure to take a favorite picture of your pet so they can post it on the bulletin board. Read Less

THE NIGHTMARE BEGAN WHEN THE NAIL TECHNICIAN CAME IN AND BUTCHERED MY POOR DEFENSELESS DOG :(. SHE CUT HIM SEVERAL TIMES & DIDN'T EVEN APOLOGIZE!! THIS IS HER JOB….SHE SHOULD KNOW NOT TO INJURE ANIMALS. I NOTICED WHEN I GOT TO THE TRUCK & THERE WAS BLOOD EVERYWHERE (PAWS WERE BLEEDING). I TOOK HER BACK FOR THEM TO HEAL HER BUT DID NOT EVEN GET AN “I’M SORRY”. PLEASE PLEASE DON'T TAKE YOUR PET TO GET THEIR NAILS CUT THERE. MY POOR DOG DIDN'T MOVE (MY DOG WAS WELL BEHAVIED) THERE WAS NO EXCUSE FOR CUTTING HIM & TORCHERING MY BABY. THE NAIL TECH IS HORRIBLE, INSENSITIVE AND COMPLETELY ABUSIVE!!!
