They did an incredible job neutering my pet rat, Clyde. It was a very cheap and reasonable surgery. He had the fastest surgery heal I've ever experienced. They did a fantastic job. No infections, no problems. And they all treated him very good, when I got there to pick him up after surgery, they were all giving him tons of love and attention. Unfortunately, someone poisoned one of our pitbulls. He was semi aggressive and needed a trained hand to handle him. We were turned away from four other vets. Johnsen made allowances like bringing the scale outside to get his weight. The vets took their time and gave me clear and concise answers. They were empathetic and reasonable. The vet was willing to administer the sedation in our truck. We had him cremated. Our dog not the vet. Several weeks later, they returned our beloved boy to us to put in our Rainbow Garden. I recently had to board my dog while I went out of town.  The staff were friendly and attentive and my pet was fine and appeared well cared for when I picked him up.   The veterinarian was excellent and discussed my pets health with me as she noticed something that I had never noticed before which is a common problem in boxers.  I would recommend this place as I had a great experience and my pet was definitely in good hands. I love this vet! We see Dr. Alfredo regularly. He's great with all my dogs, from my Chihuahua to my German Shepherd. He knows what he's talking about and is always ready to answer any questions I have. He's on top of things but isn't quick to medicate and listens to what's going on. He's in my top two of the best vets I've ever had. The front desk staff is wonderful and always helpful. The vet techs are great, too! Our cat was displaying severe signs of illness. Our daughter recommended this animal hospital so we rushed him over there. They discovered his kidneys were failing & it was so bad the vet didn't think he would be saved. They offered to try, but we all knew he was beyond help at that point. This was our first cat & had him for years. Knowing we had to put him down crushed us. But the staff was soooo kind, tender & sympathetic. They even gave us the option to be with him through the entire procedure. We could tell it was hard on Dr. Johnsen, too. That has to be the hardest part of his job! When it was done, my daughter & I were in tears. But Dr. Johnsen, with his tendered heart, went beyond his duty & gave us a hug. That meant so much! A few days later, we even received a sympathy card from all of the staff. We've gotten another cat & will ALWAYS continue going to Johnsen Animal Hospital for all of our medical pet care needs! Came here to try something different from Banfield at Petsmart. The appointment process was way more convenient than I ever had with Banfield, they were able to get my three dogs in within 2 hours of me even inquiring about the services. The office is separated for your canine and felines so there isn't any tension or anxiety for the animals. They put us in a room within minutes of arriving. The staff was extremely polite and very caring as to make sure my dogs were comfortable. They got all my dogs tested and vaccinated in a organized efficient manner. I would definitely recommend. As for one of the previous reviews; this location is very convenient on lee Trevino. I can't image how someone would be unable to locate it. 5 stars! Read Less

Within one month of living in El Paso, we visited 4 different animal clinics. Johnsens is by far the best. We are very picky with who handles our pets. From the moment we walked in, every member of the staff made us feel comfortable. We have unfortunately since spent a good amount of time at the clinic. And even though we are undergoing some unfortunate issues with or boy, Tobi, we truly feel so thankful that we found Johnsen Animal Clinic. So far 2 out of 5 of our dogs have visited the clinic, soon our others will go in for checkups. We also plan to use Johnsen Animal clinic for all our rescue needs! Absolutely love this clinic. It's clean the staff was friendly, the vet was amazing with our dog. They've called back several times to follow up. They really care about the animals and the vet personally called to check on our dog! They were understanding as far as prices and didn't push us on extra things to make us spend more. Why are the best places always the most difficult to locate accurately on a GPS??So I recently took my two fur-grandkids to this place, as it was recommended to me by a coworker. What caught my attention was the fact that they take walk-ins. I went in on a Friday afternoon with my daughter for a routine check-up, vaccines, etc. Much to our surprise, there were very few customers there, which meant NO wait whatsoever. Come to think of it, waiting for the paperwork was the longest part of the entire visit.I must say I am immensely impressed at the friendliness of the staff. The second you walk in, you can tell they really love animals. And one would have to in order to do this job. They even have their own wandering cat they apparently inherited from a customer who unfortunately passed on.When we took our two furry patients to the back, the doctor seemed extremely professional and clearly knew a lot about cats (I assume he most likely works on the dogs as well).One thing I should mention: when you first walk up to the building, you'll notice two entrances; one for cats and one for dogs. I assume these are the only two types of animals they work on, but I have no idea. This was my first time here.Sooo, yeah...not much to say really. This is a relatively small clinic that accepts walk-ins for cats and dogs. They are fast (for the most part), efficient, and really care about their fur patients. Just make sure you visit them on payday with a full wallet. My one big complaint (you know I had to have one, right?)....is their horrible location. The sign out front is so small and unattractive, I'm beginning to think the only way they acquire new customers is via word of mouth. That's why I'm leaving this review, honestly. When I researched this place on Yelp, I noticed there were only two reviews. Granted, they were both 5 star reviews, there were only the two. I doubt most folks would find this place by pure chance just driving up and down Lee Trevino.That's literally the only thing holding me back from issuing a perfect rating. Their location SUCKS! This rating is from a couple of years ago. We used to have a Pug, which unfortunately is not with us anymore. His name was Taco and Johsen was the only vet he knew. This place was always caring, friendly towards us and Taco. Well, in the summer of 2012, Taco was going to Johnsen for a checkup. While in the back of our van, Taco's eye pop-out, we pulled over tried to pop-it back in and wasn't able to fix the problem. So, I called Johnsen and told them the situation, they told me to just keep him relaxed and they would be ready. As soon as I drove in we rushed Taco in and approximately 30 minutes after Taco was better than before. We were so happy with the outcome of this situation, that we are going back with our new puppy (after 2yrs) a beagle named Kiko. Read Less

Called and booked an appointment the day before to get my Aussiedoodle's ears checked, and my two dogs nails trimmed. They were the friendliest I have ever been to! Very helpful and truly love animals. The price was reasonable and they have pamphlets for pet insurance. My Aussiedoodle has always been scared at the vets office, and for the first time EVER he actually liked them and didn't hide behind me or pull away from them!! In addition to a nice check up, they went above and beyond by holding the leashes for me while I checked out AND walked us out safely to the car. I will definitely be returning here! Read Less

My husband and I just recently got stationed at Fort Bliss. We were looking for a reliable vet to bring our two dogs to (seeing as the vet on base has a pretty long wait time for appointments). I agreed with his recommendation, therefore, I picked my dog up the following day after he treated her. Dr. Johnsen accused me of many irratical wrongdoings. He ended the visit by continuously insulting me.I was worried and saddened for my dog.
