He took his time with my dog so she could warm up to him and gave me information on his favorite products without forcing them. Dr. Mayes and his staff are efficient, knowledgeable, and friendly. They did everything they could to successfully make my pet well again. However, what makes Dr. Mayes and his staff so different from the rest, is they make each case personal. They send welcome cards, sympathy cards, his staff calls to remind for each appointment, and his staff also calls to personally check up on each patient after each surgery. They are doing this right. What a delight it was to come in as a walk-in and not know what to expect but to find out they truly care for your pets. Angelica is NOT a leash walker at all but Dr.Myers took time to show me THE basics and also interacted with my granddaughter when we came in..All the staff was very welcoming and April and Jennifer I think that was her name. Even though it was close to closing time, they went out of their way to check Mom's dog out and let her know in detail about his health. We moved here from Lubbock where I was a vet tech, I'm glad to find a vet who truly loves his job and is extremely knowledgeable, and employees who are so friendly. The facility is ALWAYS FRIENDLY. Dr. Mayes is never in a hurry to get you in and out, he takes his time getting to know you and your pet. If your young children come in with you he enjoys talking to them and getting them to "help" him. I found out today that if Dr. Mayrs doesn't feel like something is necessary, he's not going to try to talk you in to it just to make a buck, what I mean is, I took my lab in for a knot on her chest, I was afraid it was cancerous, he felt like it was just a fatty tumor and told me he would not recommend taking it off right now. I know some doctors would want to make the money, so they would suggest aspiration, surgery/biopsy, medication....not Dr. Mayes, he is just awesome!We are so grateful to find a place that loves animals as much as we do.Read Less

Dr. Mayes and his staff are fantastic! My 90 lb baby has been going there for about 7 years. They have seen him immediately when I was stressed over an injury, they've done tests on him trying to figure out what is the cause of something. I will get a call checking on Buddy to see how he's doing from his last visit. They are so caring. Buddy will not go to a different clinic, unless it's an emergency! Read Less

I don't know how many years I have been going to SMAC; however many years Dr. Mayes has been the vet there. The staff is friendly and caring and Dr. Mayes is an excellent vet. The clinic is always clean and I don't worry about my cats picking up things from other animals. I also board my cats at the clinic, where I know they are given proper care. They don't care that I call every other day, and if something happens while I am gone, they take care of it and call me. I wouldn't go to any other vet clinic. Read Less

V.E.T Care Hospital and Resort recommended this facility to me for my dog Koufax because they did not have x-ray equipment. The staff are pleasant and professional at both clinics. Koufax was experiencing a bloody stool. Furthermore, after a thorough examination by Dr. Mayes, Koufax was diagnosed with an inflamed prostate and his anal glands were full. After a dietary change and implementation of medication for three weeks, Dr. Oesch assessed that my dog was back to normal. Dr. Mayes and Dr. Oesch displayed genuine care for me and my pet. Both veterinarians answered all of my questions and eased my concerns without rushing me out of the exam room. In addition, Dr. Oesch suggested (among other ideas) placing some coins in a metal container to stop my dog from barking so erratically. I am transferring my cat Token to this clinic immediately. Wish i could rate 0 stars worst vet I have ever been to. I just moved to Ft Worth and my dog Ginger bear needed to be seen for a spot on his eye. I choose south meadow be a use they were just down the street from our new home. My first visit was strange and they seemed to be making up small things for me to worry about like wax in Gingers ear. The vet told his assistant to send me home with stuff for his ear and I figured because he didn't consult me about this that they were going to give me some samples of this ear medication. I found out later I was very wrong. Also tried to up sell me on other products I didn't need.  I finally end up leaving with a bill over $175. I went in expecting to pay for an exam and meds for his eye and that didn't happen. I had a follow up appointment in a few weeks so I used the meds for his eye and nothing changed. In less than a week the vet called to check on him which I thought was awesome I thought wow they really seem to care. I told them nothing had change so they asked me to bring him in that day. What I didn't know and didn't find out til after the vet examined him was that it takes weeks for the eyes to heal. Why then you ask did they ask me to bring Ginger in less than a week after I started meds on him? Well it is because they wanted to sell me more stuff and charge yet another exam fee. I have never been charged for a follow up visit for a vet. As soon as they told me I was being charged for this follow up I paid it told them I wouldn't be back and walked out. I was soo angry I was crying as I left. I question whether the meds I got for him will even work or its just a scam to get you to return and by more. So now after over a $200 vet bill I still don't know if Ginger will be ok and I have to find another vet that doesn't just want my money and actually cares about what they do. I am highly disappointed and do not recommend this vet. Read Less

I was referred to South Meadows Animal Clinic by a friend of mine. I was very pleased to discover that Dr. Mayes is very knowledgeable and takes the time to explain in layman's terms what is going on. I found that the support staff (receptionist, vet techs, etc.) were very professional and truly cared about my dog and his condition. This animal clinic is not around the corner from me, but I feel that it is worth the drive to get the necessary care for my "member of the family". I had a chance to tour the facility and it was very clean and I was very impressed with the large back yard. My dog's treatment is expensive, but I am hoping that he will be better in the long run. The staff is wonderful. I had to deal with several of the staff members when my cat was sick and they all had great attitudes, and all of them treated my cat as if she was one of the family. They explained exactly what they were doing  and the exact cost of treating my pet, along with several options for treating her. My cat is now on the mend, feeling better than ever! Read Less

I had our dogs scheduled for grooming and vet records faxed from our old vet (from when we moved).  I was told that if the dogs needed anything they'd call--and they didn't. When my husband dropped them off he was told it would be a total of $400 because they had to have a fecal at $40 and an exam at $40. The grooms were around $50 each, for around $400 before taxes for the three (under 20 lb) dogs. That is NUTS. Our old vet, when I called, said that's unusual for dogs who aren't being boarded with other dogs and for grooming to need that. I called another vet close by and they said $15 exam fee and their fecal is $10. I found another groomer that is also $50 cheaper and closer to us. They seemed nice at South Meadow, but my husband went back and picked up our dogs. $240 is a lot of money just for a fecal exam that they really don't need according to BOTH other vets we talked to.  In fact, the one we will take them to that has a $15 exam fee said they don't even recommend a fecal, they would recommend a heart worm instead, and our dogs are up to date on that already so we don't need it. The thing we like the most from this clinic is Dr. Mayes will ALWAYS explain all options, medicinal and any treatments. Great staff and services for your four legged family member. Nice and clean office with healthy pet foods and a few selected items. They provide you good tips and source material to keep your pet in good shape and health along with shots and medical needs. I take my dog here for his toenails to be clipped and the price is the best in the area at only $11. And he even gets rewarded with free treats. Walk-ins are welcomed and service is fast. Read Less
