Front desk staff not friendly and irritated when we asked how much longer the wait would be. We ended up going to Penny Paws without an appointment and received exceptional service. Dr. Metzler saved my dog's life after he was stung by bees. He surely would have died without proper treatment. Post treatment was subpar and I switched to another clinic. My dog had concerning lab results that weren't adequately discussed. I found this out when I took them to a different clinic. When my dog had complications the day after discharge, the male veterinarian on duty was not as good as Dr. Metzler and didn't really take time to thoroughly review labs and understand the issues and discuss with me. He dismissed as stomach upset and said come back later if not better. When I went to the other clinic, the vet reviewed all the labs and paperwork, revealed new information to me I didn't know, adjusted the treatment plan and got my dog back on the road to recovery. She also consulted with another specialist via telephone and took time to print extra material for me to review and understand for myself what was going on with my dog's situation. I'd recommend Dr. Metzler and appreciate the care and time she spent saving my dog's life. Read Less

DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE!!! The staff ((not the actual Vet)) are so very nice, and very professional. We had to take my dog, about 7-8 years old, in for an emergency appointment. We thought she had hurt her hip or leg. She had been yelping in pain, and basically refusing to move, sit, or even lay down. So after some x-rays, the vet ‘casually’ informed us that her stomach was “very full of something” - he also informed us she had a UTI, with some blood in her urine. He basically chalked it up to pretty basic problems, and gave her a shot to “help her digest things” as well as some pain medicine, and more pills for her to take later. Also saying that she’s probably just being dramatic. Later that evening, not even 12 hours later, my poor dog died. THIS VET CLINIC SHOULD’VE SEEN THE SERIOUSNESS AND SAVED MY BABY -not to mention we spent $500 to be told my dog had a stomach ache and was being dramatic. - only for her to die in my arms hours later. DO. NOT. TAKE. YOUR. ANIMALS. HERE. Read Less

Don't take your pet here! Our cat was having urinary issues and we brought him in after hours and the vet did nothing but listen with her stethoscope and feel around his belly and came back with an estimate of $2100.00 and said he will die if we don't do a procedure to drain his urine that was "probably" full of blood and was causing a blockage ... we of course didn't have it and the nurse said she'd go ask the vet if she'd like to speak with us again about options and the nurse came back and said no she didn't need to speak with us again unless we wanted to discuss euthanizing my cat!! We said no of course ! We wanted a second opinion seeing as tho THEY RAN NO TESTS!! On our way home my cat peeped! NO blood at all and he's been fine ever since .. took him to his normal vet they were shocked they didn't even run tests before they said all that!! DO NOT GO HERE! All they want is your money!!! You tell a person you have to have $2000 or kill your cat?!! What kind of place is this?! THEY DIDNT EVEN RUN ANY TESTS!!! The doctor cleaned the wound, but wanted to charge like $33 for the bandage and $35 to put it on the cat; when I didn't elect to pay it, they brought my cat back to me bleeding. They charge $30 for three anti-inflammatory pills, and over $65 dollars for the antibiotics. For the doctor visit, cleaning a wound with NO Bandaid over it, and antibiotic it cost over $150! I will never return to this place under any circumstance! I had a stressful incident where I returned home from work to find the wrapper of a pure dark chocolate bar on the floor. My dog we suspected was pregnant at the time and I did know the quantity eaten and the length of time since she ate chocolate so I drove to the nearest Vet, about 3 min away. Going to Summer-fields was the worst experience in a medical setting period. I was extremely stressed and the Vet was very UN-PROFESSIONAL. She was both overly emotional and panicked about the situation as well as thinking only about my wallet. I told her I suspected my dog was pregnant, she refused to confirm that, cause you know, she couldn't risk giving me free information but proceeded after a while to ask if it came between saving the puppies and the mom who would I choose. Like what the Hell!? The pregnancy was not far along enough for the puppies to survive a delivery. She then proceeded to tell me my dog needed to sedated over night, a treatment that would cost about $2,500 mostly for keeping her overnight. It had not been the first time my sneaky Papillon had gotten a hold of chocolate, the single previous experience we took her to Alliance Animal Center. I loved the service there but it was a few minutes further so I settled. Based on that experience I knew enough to tell the Vet at Summer fields that I did not think sedating my dog overnight was necessary before trying the Charcoal. She took that as an offense and like I was telling her I knew better and said good luck trying to get her to drink enough water. Long Story Short, they gave my dog a charcoal treatment. She did not come out to talk to me after the treatment but her actually kind Tech came out after the treatment and told me to look around for the chocolate at home. I gave my dog water with a bit of chicken stock and sure enough she drank more than enough, less than an hour later I found most of the chocolate bar still in tact underneath my bed. My dog is healthy and so is her now Two year old litter. I felt it was important to share this because if I had not known better, the Vet would have used my stressful situation to make money off of me. She intentionally withheld information and displayed lack of emotional control in front of a panicked patient. If you live in the area go to Alliance instead. Don't give your money to someone so willing to abuse your situation. Read Less

I honestly love this office. My pet health is the first thing that they take into consideration and that's why I go there. I've heard others be huffy about the wait time. The office is a very busy office, so if you're expecting to go in to Quiktrip, expect more like a shopping experience at Walmart, without all of the goofy parts. Now that being said, when it comes to my pets if it takes six hours , I don't care. And because they provide you with any answer that you need and are a wonderful office I have not had one pet that minded going in there when they see the building . And we just all need to remember that our pets are being taken care of and that the people at the front desk are there to help take care of us after we get our pets needs finished and treat them as well as we wear our pets. They have procedures and policies and that they follow because they have to just like a doctors office. But I'd give them 10 stars if I couldRead Less

I cannot thank them enough for the care and attention they gave to my fur baby. He was sick and needed their help. Summerfields Animal Hospital Staff are amazing. Their fees are no more, and in some cases quite a bit less, than other vets in the area. The cleanliness of the building and the attention to detail are excellent. On 3/23/7, I took Stitch back for a follow up and also took Zeke, who was experiencing similar symptoms. Both were treated as royalty and were taken care of immediately. The costs again were very reasonable, and the medication needed is comparable in price to the online lower cost websites making it much easier to have the medicine as and when needed. Everything was fully explained, and when my daughter had questions about one of her animals Dr. Metzler took the time to answer even though she did not have to. I would recommend this clinic to anyone if they want the best for the pets. Read Less

I vas very disappointed in the service level and implied expertise demonstrated by the Summerfield when they vainly attempted a simple beak and toe nail trim. My poor experience at Summerfield is related to their expertise with larger birds (blue & gold macaw), because I'm sure this animal hospital is good enough with dogs and cats, no arguing there. Their supposed "best bird handler" toweled the Sinbad (normal procedure) then proceeded to squeeze the birds head so tightly the skin tore just below her right eye and was bleeding (very unprofessional) profusely. They trimmed "Sinbads" beak then brought the bird back to me to settle her down at which time I saw her and went through the roof seeing her sitting there bleeding. Sinbad has been my friend and companion since 1996, and we are as close as a person can get to a bird, so her pain hurt me too. Then (after the failed beak trim) they decided they really didn't have the expertise to handle such a large bird, and they told me the person that normally handles big birds was unavailable. So after them rescheduling me twice, providing abusive (barbaric) treatment to my pet bird, and wasting a scheduled visit, they backed out and turned Sinbad away saying they couldn't proceed because they were "uncomfortable" handling the bird. Sinbad actually is a very docile, sweet, and friendly to strangers type bird under normal circumstances. BOTTOM LINE: Big bird owners, avoid this place like the plague. Their attitude was condescending and borderline rude, and my attitude at that point was not so good either in retrospect. I have pictures of Sinbad's bleeding face that I wished I knew how to post here, so my words will suffice in this case. A Truly Awful Experience with Summerfields Animal Hospital. A one star rating is one too many.Read Less

The service was fine but the price is outrageous. I took my dog in because he was throwing up and it was $95 before I got there because it was "after hours" even though they are open until 10:00 PM. Then they said he needed surgery which was going to cost between $900 and $1500 because of a cyst behind his tail that "might" be cancer. I took him to Penny Paws just for a second opinion and showed them the estimate. They couldn't believe it. They said the price was way out of range and that we were paying for all the "bells and whistles" that Summerfields has. We are getting the same surgery plus a dental exam and possible teeth extraction at Penny Paws for a minimum of $710 and a maximum of $747. That is so much less than Summerfields was without the dental portion of it. I am taking my dogs to Penny Paws unless it is an emergency and Penny Paws is not open. I had the absolute greatest experience here at Summerfield last night. I own a 7-Month old kitten named Tesla that was acting odd for the last couple of days. (Not eating, using the restroom, no energy, etc.) I brought him in to be seen by Karen Metzler & immediately she took a look in his mouth to find sewing string dangling in his throat, she let me know that Tesla would need to be sedated in order for her to try and remove the string. When she finally was able to get ahold of it she brought me back and physically showed me that the string was caught somewhere deeper in his body, causing the potential to cut through his organs. Dr. Metzler was very sympathetic and detailed in every move that she made. Tesla ended up swallowing enough string to stretch from his throat all the way to his colon. This surgery cost almost half of a brand new car and the staff at Summerfield discounted the surgery by an unspoken amount.. This cat isn't just my Animal or any other cat, he's my buddy. These people are horrible. Yesterday my sister and I found a kitten that had just gotten hit by a car, we immediately took her to the hospital. When we got there they were dragging their feet and taking their sweet time, while this poor kitty was dying and needing immediate medical attention. The kitten was so scared that it bit my sister pretty hard (these people had nothing to help clean the bite this cat gave my sister). Then a lady comes in and tells me that they won't do anything to help this kitten unless I pay $95. I hurried and paid this, hoping they could do something to help her. Five minutes later the vet comes in and told us the kitten had passed away and since it bit my sister, by law the kitten had to be tested for rabies. When she left and the nurse came back in she told us that the pet control was closed for the day and that if we pay $200 they can send the cat to the pet control for us. Otherwise we would have to take the kittens body home with us and take it ourselves on Monday. SERIOUSLY?! My sister is inconsolable and you want her bring that cats body home with her?! She then left and came back and said they could hold the kitten for us until Monday but of course there was some fee. My husband and I have to take the cat tomorrow to make sure my sister doesn't have rabies now. The staff is HORRIBLE. All these people cared about was money. Really disappointed in this hospital. I've been taking my cat here for over a year. Yesterday I found a kitten that had been hit by a car and took her in to get checked out. When I walked in with the dying kitten and explained what happened, all three people at the front desk stared at me like I was an idiot. I asked them to take care of her but they wouldn't do anything until I agreed to be financially responsible for her. I agreed and while they were taking their sweet time getting her into a room, she bit me pretty hard. I left her with the doctor and my sister to go wash my hands. When I came back my sister told me they wouldn't even look at her until we paid a 95.00 fee. She went ahead and paid it but seriously? This baby was dying and they were wasting time! Two minutes later the doctor came in and told us she didn't make it and went on to tell us that we needed to either take the body home and take her to animal control on Monday or pay over 200.00 for them to do it. I was hysterical because she died and then they suggested I take the dead body home? SO AWFUL. I tried to help this poor kitten and all they cared about was money. I will not be taking my cat back there. They do not care about the animals welfare, they only care about money. Shame on you Summerfields. You claim to love animals but you love money more.Read Less

Summerfield's is the best! Thank you FB memories. 6 years ago today I brought my baby girl home from Summerfields Animal, the fact that I was able to a miracle. Mei-li developed pancreatitus due to a teaspoon of gravy put in her food bowl. She was just over a year old. She was placed on meds and got worse. Back to the Summerfields she went and her diagnosis was hemorrhagic gastritis and she had to stay. I was able to visit her after work and the office stayed past closing so I could be with her. Throughout her care I received regular texts and messages telling me if she was improving or staying the same. She had special blood tests done every few hours. She got worse again...disseminated intravascular coagulation DIC. My baby girl's cell were breaking and bleading. Every breath she took was making her worse. We stayed at the vet until close to 10 pm Dr. Karen doing everything she could and waiting for my family to get there. If Mei-li was going to die she was going to do it without pain and surrounded by love. Emergent care was checked into and with a pet transport the cost for 1 night was close to $8k and I couldn't do that. Karen gave one more option of hope and we latched on, she took my baby girl home with her and nursed her through the night. Mei-li is now almost 8 year's old and a sassy mess. I love this place! Dr. Metzler and her staff are so kind and determined to make sure your pet, or in my case MANY, are well taken care of. I had an issue where my dog had to be rushed to the emergency vet and Dr. Metzler happened to be there dropping off supplies to them and recognized my dog. She has a unique first name as is my last name. She knows my animals mean the world to me but that I also don't have a ton of money and assured them that if I couldn't pay all of it then I absolutely would get the rest of it and don't let that stop them from giving my dog the best care possible! They always go above and beyond my expectations and I refuse to go anywhere else. I don't care that they're not very close to me, the VERY FEW times I ever took my animals anywhere else, only out of pure necessity, I was highly disappointed. Love these guys!! Read Less

Do not take your pet here! I took my dog here early March for a skin problem. She was hardly looked at and diagnosed with allergies 250 dollars later. In that same meeting I voiced she had lost a lot of weight and had trouble standing up (she's only 10 years old ) that was not addressed. Well now in April, my dog could not stand on her own and hasn't eaten in days We took her in and the vet diagnosed her with a back disease without even taking blood or X-rays. I still was voicing that she hasn't eaten and she was very weak and won't move. That same night my dog threw up all night. I called in the morning. I never spoke to the vet. Just office staff and nothing was resolved. (The vet was too busy to talk to me as my dog was literally dying). We ended up talking her to an emergency vet and she had got so sick we had to put her to sleep. They don't care about the well being of your pet. Read Less

The staff was very friendly and took care of my fur baby well. Office area and exam rooms are nice and clean. The vet took her time diagnosing Bruno, my dog, and we didn't feel rushed at all. The vet bill was quite high. I believe the exam fee alone is $50 or $55. But it was worth it knowing my fur baby will be feeling better in no time. Read Less

Then and only then will I use Summerfields Animal Hospital due to the expense, not the doctors. Read Less

I appreciate all the hard work and professionalism displayed throughout this whole experience. Truly an incredible staff at Summerfield Animal HospitalRead Less

It's sad, they claim they love animals but what my sister and I witnessed showed us they cared more about money. Do not go to this vet!Read Less

She love's her Miss Karen unless she's getting a shot and then she is a drama queen! Summerfield's is the only place I'll take my girl!Read Less

Read Less

Came here on a Saturday evening for the first time. Our original vet had closed for the evening and this was the only place still open. I called at 5:30 pm and was able to get in within an hour. Read Less
