Two weeks ago (February 22nd), my husband called me out to our garage to show me something he had found. When I saw what he had in the back of his truck, my heart broke and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. He had found a poor dog in a ditch. The dog was so malnourished he could barely stand. His back leg was obviously broken and had been that way so long that the muscle had severe atrophy. We weren’t sure if he would make it through the night but we wanted to try and do whatever we could to give this poor boy a chance. We called one of our family members who is extremely involved with Mid County Paws and she suggested we bring the dog to Wilcox Veterinary Clinic. I called the clinic and explained our situation. Since the leg injury was old and the immediate concern was to see if the dog would eat, we decided to try and feed him through the weekend and I would bring him to their clinic on Monday. The clinic suggested several types of dog food or boiled chicken. I fed the dog boiled chicken every two hours for the next 4 days and he slowly gained a little strength back and also the will to live. Since the dog was found at the lake, we decided to call him Rayburn. The following Monday I met with Dr. Hanson at the clinic and he felt sure he would be able to repair the injured leg, so I left Rayburn with him and hoped for the best outcome. The next day Dr. Hanson updated me on the status and wanted to put off surgery for a day or so until his blood count was better. We visited Rayburn the next day and Dr. Hanson called daily to update me on his progress. On Saturday, March 3rd, I received a call from Dr Hanson letting me know he had performed the surgery and everything went well and felt it wouldn’t take long for him to regain use of his leg. Thank you Dr. Hanson, I honestly didn’t think it would be possible for Rayburn to walk normal again and I can’t express how grateful I am for the amazing care, treatment and concern he received from you and the staff. The fact that you took time to call me daily, letting me know how he was doing, was very reassuring. The affection you and the staff showed to this poor animal, convinced me that we had made the correct choice in his care. Read Less

Dr. Hanson NEVER communicated w/ our vet - no phone calls, no reports, no follow-up. He kind of just left us hanging when we were called & told to pick up our dog. I still think had he not (accidentally) been at the front desk when we arrived that we would not have seen him or talked to him. He actually seemed shocked to see us, like he'd been caught & was forced to talk to us. Also, when we left our dog I specifically requested the Bordetella shot (since she had never been kenneled or away from home). Guess what was NOT on our invoice? Guess what our dog came home with (even though Dr. Hanson blamed it on something else)? Never again. We were referred there for a reason. But, never again!!! Read Less

Terrible serviceThey attempt to see too many dogs in one office (they have 4 vets on staff and see upwards of 120 dogs a day). The overbooking problem makes it impossible for the ladies working the desk to keep up with the administrative side of their practice. I have been told they would call and they didn't, I have been told they would send out OFA paperwork and they didn't, I have showed up early (7:30) and not been able to leave until 8:45 because they kept starting over with a new person at the desk asking to to do something different...and then STILL they called me two hours later and said that they forgot to give me other paperwork.  They will not email records, only fax. Don't let them tell you differently at the desk. They might have great vets but that isn't all there is to a practice. I would never recommend this place to anyone who keeps meticulous records on their pet. Read Less

I am mainly writing a review for Dr. Wilcox's Clinic because I know what it is like to take your baby (family pet) somewhere for the first time, outside of your hometown and not knowing what to expect.   I could not be more grateful for the work Dr. Wilcox and his staff did for my dog.  If it weren't for them, my dog may have not been able to walk right now.  He tore his back ACL and I resorted to Dr. Wilcox because financially he made more sense.  I was not too happy with the people at the front desk during my first visit.  I was not acknowledged and I did not feel welcomed, even though I already had an appointment with them.  Imagine having to leave your dog overnight after that experience?!  My time with Dr. Wilcox was very brief - also something I was not too happy about.  I wanted to feel like I knew the type of people I was leaving my dog with and I did not have that connection.Despite not feeling comfortable about leaving my dog overnight, I did.  The ladies at the front desk seemed much nicer the next day (maybe they had a good breakfast that morning) and my dog was oh so happy to see me.  It has been well over a year since the ACL surgery and my dog is now back to being his normal, happy, loving self.  I should also add that the incision healed very well and by the time they said it would heal.  Dr. Wilcox definitely worked his expertise on my baby!  I would definitely go through the unwelcome(ness) again if I had to have my dog treated there again. In 2010 I took my 4 pound miniature Dachshund to Dr. Wilcox with what was more than likely a very much needed surgery. We inherited a t-cup chihauhau who could not move her neck without severe pain. We tried steriod shots with our vet and at first they helped. Our vet told us about Dr. Wilcox in Groves and said he was a really good vet surgeon who he would recommend. We tried putting it off but it got to the point that we would have to put her down or have the surgery. Our dog had to have a full neck surgery. I am so glad we choose the surgery. She is about 2 weeks postop and doing great. The hardest part of the surgery (besides the bill) is keeping her from doing too much. The staff was really helpful and they referred me to a interest fee credit company that I could pay out the bill in 18 months. She gets her stiches out this week and I would diffinately recommend Dr. Wilcox.

Like many Dachshund's, they have back issues and my little baby girl had a slipped disc. She looked so tiny in his hands and he even stated that she was tiny but that he'd worked on smaller before. The prices were very reasonable and the care was outstanding!! I would highly recommend Dr. Wilcox for any surgical needs. My baby has made a full recovery! Read Less

Wilcox. Read Less

The staff is very friendly and the Dr. was very compassionate. I would highly recommend this vet…its was well worth the hour and 30 minute drive. Read Less
