I can not recommend this place enough! We have been going for 2 years and they have been great with every situation we have had! From helping take care of our newborn bulldog puppies, to clearing up chronic ear infections, and tending to a serious dog bite, they have always been there for us. The vets are amazing at follow up even for something as simple as vaccinations. I had an emergency with my dog last week and I called and asked if I could bring her in. They made room in their schedule and when I got there they had a clean room ready and techs waiting to take her back. I have been to many vets but none can compete with this one! Read Less

I like this vet's office. They're probably not the cheapest, but I feel I get what I pay for. The staff is professional and seem to really care about their furry patients. The service is top notch. My appointments have always taken place on time. On my last visit, they called with some test results before I even got home. I also receive a follow up call the day after an appointment, whether the visit was routine or something more significant. One of my dogs was a stray that had some significant health issues early on. After hit first visit, the doctor called me personally, and took the time to discuss my options in great detail. I feel my dogs get a good return on my investment here. Read Less

I’ve never taken my animals here but I just called to cross reference something that a vet I took my dog to earlier did and the staff was WONDERFUL. The front desk got a tech/nurse on the phone and the tech was so patient and accommodating in explaining to me a procedure and how it should be taken care of in the next week. This is the best vet office I've ever been to, I've been coming for almost 11 years now with my 3 cats. The entire staff is incredibly friendly, and most of the front office ladies recognize me as soon as I walk in and know which cats are mine, and the different prescription foods two of them eat. I never wait long either in the waiting area or in the room. I like their recently new add on of the cat only exam room and waiting area, not something you see at most vets, and I think it's great for all animals visiting since they are already in a stressful situation and the added smells of a different species just doesn't help much. All the facilities are very clean and they have feliway in all the cat areas. Between all my cats, I have seen each of the vets and they are all very knowledgeable so I can honestly tell the tech I do not have preference when making an appointment (although Dr. Rooker may have a slight edge because I just love how she says things to the cats). They all have shown me a genuine concern for my cats - they always call to follow up, even if it's just good lab results from a routine checkup. When there have been cases of bigger events than just checkups, they have always given me different options, realistic outcomes of each, and they have never tried to push me in any direction. I have heard complaints that they can be pricey, but honestly, it's worth every single penny. You can access your pets records online with their pet portal, and can even order refills on medications or prescription food if you're like me and tend to think of these things outside of office hours. I am very grateful and impressed with the treatment we received from the staff at HCAH. Dr. Macias thorougly examined my canine companion and answered all of my questions to my complete satisfaction. She contacted me w/n a few days to follow up I inquired about another health issue my canine has valley fever. She then researched this disease since it is not common in TX and got back to me in a reasonable time frame. You will never find a better team of staff and Veterinarians to take your animals to.  Each new pet is announced on a welcome board and you are greeted by name as you walk in the door.  The paperwork is streamlined and to the point and my wait time was only a few minutes.  The exam table has a non-slip pad for your pet that keeps their nails from trying to grip to a counter top and sliding...this lessened the stress on my pet, for sure.  The rooms are clean and upgraded with computers to look things up right then and/or compare test results without staff having to leave the room.  All my supplies I purchased were also ordered from the room and ready for me immediately after the exam.  My bill was taken care of while I still waited in the room so I didn't have to fumble with my pet and the supplies I was taking home while also trying to check out--I really appreciated that. I have a pet with a medical issue and I was reassured that all the medicine she would need is kept in-house and can be accessed the same day.   A few days later a received a phone call my Vet, Dr. Rooker (not the staff) to find out how my pet was doing.  I was very happy to see the follow-up from the doctor so if I had any questions, they could be addressed right then. All in all, I've NEVER had a better experience than at Hill Country Animal Hospital and would recommend them to everyone in a heartbeat. Read Less

Took my dogs here. Was good for a while, then noticed not only once, but twice the office performed more procedures/ given shots/ or what ever that what we asked for and charged us for it. This ended up with one of my dogs getting a rabies shot twice within 1 week because we tend to get the vaccinations done elsewhere because their prices are higher than others. Before going, make sure you explain exactly what you want and make documentation before having anything done here. Or better yet, go somewhere else. Read Less

I've lived all over the country with my cats, and this is definitely one of the best vet clinics I've been to. I moved to SA last year with a cat who has advanced arthritis, and I wanted to go to a cat friendly clinic where we could discuss and re-evaluate his treatment and pain management. There is a very nice cat-only waiting area with a cat only exam room. Including some nice fuzzy perches! The tech took her time to get mine and my cat's information, and the vet was incredibly thorough and answered all my questions. My cat adored them both! He's moving better and is a happier kitty. I took my cat in to Hill County Animal Hospital on the 12th of April 2016. His paw had been swollen for a few days and was not getting better with the care I was giving him. I chose this business based off the location as it was close by and the reviews I had read online.The facility is newer so it is clean and orderly. I liked that it did not smell so much like an animal hospital. The staff was very friendly from the desk clerk to the doctor who saw my cat. I liked that they had a separate waiting room for cat owners as it can cause a bit of extra stress on felines to be in their crate sitting next to a large breed of dog sniffing around them. I had my 1 year old daughter with me so I had my hands full but the staff did what they could to help me out by taking care of getting my cat in and out of his carrier and entertaining my little one as she explored the room. She was sick at the time so the staff showed sympathy and struck up a few good conversations about children. Very easy to talk to. The exam room was clean and presentable as well. It had a nice little view out the windows with budding flowers just outside. The assistant and doctor did a good job examining my pet and found that he had two lacerations on his paw which I was not able to find initially. They gave him an anti-inflammatory and antibiotic. My cat is doing much better after a few days so I honestly don't have anything to complain about. I called to make an appointment with them later in the day so they were already booked up but were able to fit me in the next day without an issue. I didn't have to wait long to be seen when I showed up as they had me go straight into the exam room after I was done checking in and filling out my info. It took the doctor about five minutes to come in after the assistant checked the cats vitals so it wasn't long at all. I was in and out in about 25 minutes overall. A couple of days later the Veterinarian called to check up on my cat and even asked how my daughter was doing so that was a nice touch to know that they remembered who I was. This was my first visit to this Veterinarian and it was a pleasant one. I would recommend them as well as plan on using them again for any other pet needs. Read Less

They are so nice and caring about our pet and us. My dog had a dental infection, they ran some test and found some other issues related to the infection.  The doctor gave me several options, and made me feel good about my decision. The doctor called to check up on my dog,  I've never had a vet do that before. The whole staff is awesome!!! Was very informative and thorough with my dogs evaluation. He gave me clear instructions. I came in as a paying client on Thursday, August 13, 2015 and was completely shocked at how rude the hospital manager, Lisa, was. When she walked up, I smiled at her and received a very dirty look back from her. I was extremely shocked because she claims to provide the best customer service and completely fell flat on that. Where did her professionalism go? OUT THE WINDOW!! Very rude and condescending womanl. I will not be returning to this hospital, ever, just to avoid seeing this woman and her stank face attitude. Hill Country really went above and beyond to ensure my dog had a quality wellness exam. I was given great advice on appropriate vaccinations, and treatments and my vet spent time talking to me and answering questions, I never felt rushed. My dogs comfort was always put first and they even offered to have me check out in the exam room just to make it easier!! Prices were appropriate for services provided. We take all three of our dogs here for routine check-ups and minor issues that arise from time to time. We have have had an emergency with our pets once but they aren't open 24/7 and don't even have an "on-call" system that I know of so we had to go somewhere else for that. On the whole, I'm generally pleased with this place. They're good with my dogs and seem to really like dealing with pets. My biggest gripe is the wait times I often face here. I've learned to not even show up until about 5 minutes after my appointment time, otherwise I will sit in the waiting/exam rooms for 1/2 an hour.Lastly, yes the place is a little pricey. However, they seem competent and clean...plus they are really close. So even though it isn't cheep I feel like it's generally worth it. Read Less

I started taking all 4 of my dogs here about six months ago and I have never had a bad experience. I have seen all veterinarians and they are all wonderful, caring, and knowledgeable. I have called a number of times for medical advice and the staff is always so helpful. They even let me come by to have a nurse examine one of my pup's incisions because I wasn't sure it was healing correctly. The nurse took her to the back and showed the vet and I was informed that she was having a reaction to the sutures dissolving but that was normal and to bring her back if things got worse. There was no charge for this visit! Today my dog Chuck saw the nurse Rachel for a vaccine and she was so great with him and was a great resource because I had a lot of questions. Read Less

Very disappointing service. We are new to the city and wanted to have this clinic as our regular vet service since they are associated with an adjacent luxury boarding place. We have 3 dogs and have grown accustomed to friendly staff, quick service (being ushered into a treatment room as soon as possible if the dog is barking at others in the waiting room, etc...). We scheduled 2 visits for our dogs. Each time we had to wait 20 to 35 minutes even though the clinic was NOT busy and had empty treatment rooms. The receptionist was loudly chewing gum on the second visit-how tacky. It's too bad for them that they lost out on our business since we board our dogs several times a year, at a cost of upwards of $700 per week. Maybe they'll read this review and learn from it. We are new to the city and wanted to have this clinic as our vet service for our 3 dogs since they are associated with an upscale boarding place just behind them. We use boarding 3 to 4 times a year, which can cost upwards of $700 per week. We are also closely associated with beagle and labrador rescue organizations and have extensive exposure to veterinarians. ....We scheduled 2 vet visits. Each time we had to wait 20 to 30 minutes in the waiting room, even though they were Not busy and they had empty treatment rooms. The 2nd time, our 2 dogs were unusually anxious and barking a lot and even this did not prompt the frontdesk clerks to usher us into a treatment room any quicker. We just got a longer chance to see the frontdesk receptionist smacking her gum. Great. I think that we grew accustomed to the very best of Houston boutique vet clinics and Hill Country clinic comes out looking pale by comparison. We will now take our dogs to a large Hill Country clinic up the road that has been recommended, where the vets are experienced and the frontdesk staff knows to give speedy and cheerful service to minimize the stress on the dogs and their owners. As a pet owner of 4 cats and 2 dogs life at an animal hospital is part of the norm. I could not have been happier to find Hill Country when our family moved here a few years ago. Not only is it part of the American Animal Hospital Association (a must on my list) it has extended hours (closes at 7pm) and open from 8 to noon on Saturdays. From the front desk staff (who have such a hard job) to the technicians (who are so kind to my barking poodle) to the wonderful doctors who don't seem to mind when I bring in that poodle because she just isn't looking right :) All are hardworking individuals only looking out for and offering the highest standards of care. **Added bonus: the Palms Pet Resort right next door** Read Less

Since my one chihuahua has numerous problems, I am there quite frequently. I am always happy with the staff and with the doctors. Everyone who works there is very caring and concerned about my pets. I have been going to Hill Country Animal Hospital since 2006 when I moved back to Texas. My husband and I have traveled all over the country and been to many veterinary clinics and Hill Country Animal Hospital is definitely at the top of our list! They are always available for whatever we need. We recently had an emergency with our chihuahua on a Saturday morning and even though they were completely booked, they worked us in and he was feeling better in a few hours. It is a pity that people do not realize that you get what you pay for. Never have I felt like "it was all about the money." They offer more services and go the extra mile for their clients. My dog was able to get acupuncture on that emergency visit which really helped with the flare up he was having from an old neck injury. I would recommend Hill Country Animal Hospital to anyone who is looking for caring, compassionate vets and staff. They treat us like we are a member of their family! Read Less

i was not pleased with the staff at this place. the staff are very unfriendly and unwilling to help. they seem to have become one of those businesses that got too big. they used to be all about the animals and care. and this i remember because my parents had been going to them for years. and now after visiting they are all about money and not about caring for the animals. i would not recommend this place to anyone. even my parents have decided to discontinue their services with this company. i was able to get the help from another hospital in helotes who was more about the care of the animal and not the amount of money that they would be getting from me. I'm very happy with bringing my little fluffy-kins of a cat named Maxwell to Hill Country Animal Hospital.  Well, I should rephrase that. I'm never happy when I have to bring him to the vet but they make the experience a lot less stressful than when I've gone other places.  The inside is very bright and clean, like a good vet's office should be.  It seems like they have a lot of animals go through here but you'd never know with the amount of care and the personal touch they put on everything here.  The two vets I've had have been nothing short of amazing.  They always called to follow up and made sure that I would be able to handle the treatments my cat needed - making sure I was able to give him the medications and being able to afford everything financially.I like how they send out newsletters every season. It's kind of more for outdoor pets or for special holidays that have added dangers like Christmas or 4th of July but it's a nice added touch.  They also have an online "Pet Portal" to help you keep track of your pet's medical records and schedule appointments - VERY nice, I've haven't seen this with other vets yet. Certainly not the most high-tech site out there but I'm impressed.The only thing I'm not thrilled with about this place is the parking lot but you can park by the Palms Pet Resort and walk a little further.
