Dr Dodson and the staff took good care of my dog, Ringo. They were quick to respond when I called about his seizures that just started. She knew his history and started medication immediately which has curtailed any more incidents so far. He's 15 and arthritic, and extensive testing is not going to help him. Comfort is what counts. Dr Layne Gregory was WONDERFUL! He treated my Boxer Gunther as if he was one of his kids. The first visit was due to G being extremely ill. I dropped G off @ the Hospital early in the morning. After multiple tests and coming up with possible causes and treatment options, Dr Gregory called me and spent 25-Minutes on the phone with me explaining possible dx & plan of care. Dr. Gregory is very caring, compassionate, and thorough, everything we want and need for our kids (4&2-legged ones)! When Gunther was doing better & stable enough to come home, I got to see in person how well he related to Gunther and how well G responded to him. Dr Gregory & his team saved Gunther’s life! We have been using Hewitt Veterinary Hospital since we moved to Waco in 2004. I wouldn't trust our pets to anyone else! Dr. Dodson and the entire medical staff will do whatever it takes to get your pets back to good health. Even when we've had to make that difficult decision to let one go, the staff is so caring, follows up with a phone call to see how we're doing, and sent a sympathy card signed by every single employee. My cupcake is a fairly new patient so I have not had that much interaction yet. So far I give them a 5. Always get an appointment quickly Never have to wait to see a Doc or Have any work done. I highly recommend this veterinary hospital! Hewitt has been great w/my own pet but when there was a stray hanging around my place, I asked Hewitt if I could bring it in for assessment. I made end of day appointment as not to possibly infect other animals. I asked for minimal testing (feline hiv) and a comprehensive exam. Unfortunately this kitty was too sick to be saved but Hewitt treated this stray just as it was a pet. They lit the candle out front and brought the kitty to me so she wouldn’t be alone while she passed on. I’ll always be grateful for the attempt Hewitt tried that day to save this little stray (I was going to try and get her adopted) and I remain grateful for the level of care they continue to treat my own pet with. Hewitt doesn’t advertise this but I know they have a Good Samaritan fund that may be offered to patients who may need monetary assistance for their pets care. My 16 1/2-year-old Cairn Terrier, Mac, has been going to Hewitt Veterinary Hospital ever since he was a tiny puppy. I would not trust any other facility with my precious boy. I was squeezed in because the people here were so concerned for my dog from the description that I gave of her problem; however, I did not feel "squeezed in" but like she was their number one patient. From the receptionist to the actual vet, everyone was kind and thoughtful to my pet and to me. They were all professional and knowledgeable--and affordable, too! I can't say enough about Hewitt Veterinary Hospital. When our boxer baby was diagnosed with lymphoma in March of 2015, Dr. Dodson and the staff at the hospital were there for us every step of the way. We were able to do most of her chemo there, while consulting with an oncologist in Dallas. The entire staff was incredibly kind and sweet toward our fur baby. Even though she went in weekly for chemo, she would always walk up to the clinic happy and excited to see everyone. And when the time came to let our beautiful baby go in February of 2016, Dr. Dodson was willing to come to our house, which made the entire process a little easier. We feel so thankful that we found the Hewitt Veterinary Hospital and would not take our fur children anywhere else. Read Less

For my pets there is no other place to go. I love taking my pets here because they and I are treated like friends. The care is the best you can find, the veterinarians are highly knowledgeable, the facilities are top notch, and the staff always find time for a kind word and a sincere smile. I contacted our veterinarian to get a quote on having our cat completely declawed. While I know getting the back claws removed is not preferred, I wanted the removed to ensure that our wood floors would not be scratched by the cat. Since my request was abnormal, I waited to receive a phone call from the Veterinarian. She called back quickly, which I was appreciative. However, she refused to perform the surgery because 1) house cat needs back claws to climb tree in case she gets out of the house and 2) the cat is old(8 years). While the cat is old, she would still remove the front claws, which I guess aren't needed for climbing trees when they accidently escape the house. She also stated that the cats claws would not scratch the wood floors , but obviously she couldn't guarantee that no damage would occur from back claws. Needless to say, this did not resolve my issue. The conversation then got heated because the alternative is to take the cat to a shelter where she would most certainly be uthenized as she is 8 years old and feline lukeeamia positive. I later found a local veterinary clinic that would perform a laser claw removal, front and back, for $60 less then just getting the front claws removed. Also, laser removal is much better for the cat with quicker healing time which is appreciated. While I wasn't pleased with how this clinic treated me or my request, I am glad that I found a better clinic in the process. Read Less

They also helped get him up to date on all his shots (which the other vet completely glossed over). They explained what each shot was for and were up front about the cost of it all. Very friendly and helpful bunch we will definitely be making the drive from Belton again. . .they are that good! Oh and we love that we can make an appointment seeing as how my husband and I both work, very convenient! Read Less

Our puppy,Travis, was diagnosed with hip dysplasia at six months old. Dr Dodson quickly referred us to an orthopedic surgeon and we had TPO surgery done to hopefully resolve the issue. Dr Dodson and all the staff at the clinic were awesome and assisted us with all of his follow up. We had to have his back legs rehobbled twice and had to have his staples removed. Dr Dodson and team took care of all our needs so we didn't have to travel back to Copperas Cove, where the surgery was done. Thankfully, we caught the issue early and the surgery was a success. We always know that both D'Koda and Travis receive the best, most professional, caring treatment here. We would highly recommend Hewitt Veterinary Hospital. Love these guys!!! Read Less

We started going here when our baby was sick, They were very carrying and helpful. When the time came for us to put her to sleep they were very Compassionate and helped us threw every part of it. Took my cat into this clinic over a week ago because he was not going to the bathroom. When I arrived the staff was very nice. Saw Dr. Dodson and she ran some test on Simba. The test showed that Simba has crystals in his urine. She gave him a couple of shots and some meds and said lets see how this works. The next day Simba was getting real sick. I called the vet and they told me that Dr. Dodson and her tech were not working that day. This was a weekday.Great. Well I had to find another Veternarian, I received a call today over a week and a half later wanting to know how Simba was. I told the girl Simba died because his bladder burst. I was really happy they waited over a week to call me after I had called and told them that Simba was really sick. I am very disappointed that they did not care enough to call sooner and check on him, not wait over a week. Granted Simba probably would of died but when a customer calls in and tells you the cat is getting worse and all they say is Dr. is not working today. She must be the only vet there. I will NOT be returning there ever again. I did find a Veternarian who worked on Simba, I was very pleased with him. I liked Dr. Dodson but if that Vet hospital/ Clinic wait for over a week to call you, especially after you call them and tell them your animal is really sick, then it shows me that they do not care and if that is the kind of place you want to go to, then by all means go to them. I just wanted to send a huge thank you over to Hewitt Veterinary Hospital! Especially Dr. Brennan and Megan! Our six month old rescue kitten (Bubba) had been vomiting with little to no appetite, lethargic, and not his self. After days of this we began to worry that something was seriously wrong and called HVH. They got us in immediately on Friday an hour til close with no appointment. It's now Monday and Bubba is already back to being his usual ninja-like self, despite still being on antibiotics. After seeing how passionate and caring the HVH staff is, we will most definitely be taking all of our furbabies there in the future!Read Less

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Gregory and his awesome staff. They were so understanding, patient, and kind to our family as we made the very difficult decision to send our sweet Cayce to wait for us at the Rainbow Bridge. Now, as we are facing a serious health issue with our Suzy, I am finding the same level of professionalism and care. They have compassionately dealt with my tears and fears concerning Suzy. Last weekend my 1 & 1/2 year old Lab/Retriever mix was sick & I had to take him to an emergency vet where he was diagnosed with Parvo. They treated him there Saturday thru Monday morning but since they are only open after hours, they told me I would have to transfer him to a regular vet Monday morning to receive further treatment. He had shown some improvement by then but still wasn't out of the woods and we were extremely worried about him.I took him to another local vet Monday morning and was SO unhappy with the service & lack of treatment Baxter received there in the first 3 hours that I went and picked him up because I knew he needed & deserved far better care than he was receiving. I frantically called to find a reputable vet who would see him & the staff at Hewitt Veterinary Clinic were SO helpful when I called and they told me I could bring him in immediately. Dr. Brennan & ALL of her staff far exceeded my expectations and bent over backwards to help my Bax & assured me that he was in good hands. He was there for 2 full days and one night... during that time they were happy to answer the million questions I had every time I would call (which was a LOT). I was even able to go visit him the 2nd day. Dr. Brennan saw me as I went to leave (I was sad leaving my boy) and stopped to tell me everything was going to be okay. She went to the back to get some boiled chicken & walked me back to Baxter so I could feed it to him. Baxter is home now & he is finally back to his old self! I can't believe it! I always thought Parvo was a pretty much death sentence but I was so wrong! Also, even though price was the last thing that I was worried about... my bill there was far less than I expected and the costs were more than reasonable. It's definitely refreshing to receive quality service & care without being charged the crazy prices I've seen at other places.I also went back yesterday to get booster shots for my other 2 dogs. I didn't have an appointment but they were glad to work me in & I didn't even have to wait! Dr. Brennan was out but Dr. Dodson was happy to help us and was just as great. She took care of my other 2 dog's needs and took time to answer more questions about Baxter as well as send home additional meds & special food he needed. Dr. Brennan truly helped saved my baby's life and I couldn't be more thankful for everything she & her staff have done!! I'm so glad I found them by chance & will never use another vet! Read Less

I have taken both my mini beagle and black lab there for years and feel very confident they will be taken care of. For some services that are done by a tech, you can drop by without an appointment. That makes it much easier for me since the beagle needs his glands done about every month or so. I saw some other reviews mentioning pricing. Every time I have asked for an estimate on the phone, my bill was that exact cost. They will occasionally suggest/remind me of an additional service, but have NEVER done any work without my prior approval. Read Less

I took my little poodle Pepper to this facility shortly after moving to this area from Abilene. She was old, and going downhill fast...I asked this hospital to help me with the difficult decision of putting her to rest. The service was impressive, and compassion was felt. I am glad I made the decision to take her here. My new puppy Jammer has been a few times for vaccines. Unlike most vets, this facility seems to "drag" out the vaccines and asks that you return time after time until all are done. This raises costs to the pet owner. Well, it is time for Jammer to be neutered, and he has some puppy teeth that have remained that need to be pulled (6 total)...they quoted me 196.00 for neutering and 21.00 per tooth...thats 322.00 total. What???? I called Dr. Fromm from Animal Hospital of Waco and was quoted 84.00 for neutering and grouped the teeth at 40.00 for all teeth...thats 124.00 total. Dr. Fromm is well thought of, look at the reviews yourself. Dr. Barney Rafferty is the vet of my wifes dog Portia and she loves him as her vet. I refuse to give Hewitt Veterinary Hosoital a bad review, based on my positive experiences here. But in todays economy you have to be reasonable. My wife and I can afford to go here, but I will choose not to any longer based on principal alone. It's really a shame, I think they are great, caring vets.Read Less
