Please consider other options if you have an "exotic" pet (specifically guinea pigs). I was told my pig was simply elderly and was coerced out of doing further testing because I could only make appointments closer to closing time. The night he passed away I was told to take him to a further away emergency facility because (and this is an honest quote from a licensed Veterinarian) "They do NOT stay open one minute after closing". I took my guinea pig who was very sick to this vet and I told the nurse while setting an appointment 30 minutes after that he hasn’t eaten a full meal in 2-3 days ( only small amounts when I was hand feeding him )and told her how he was really sick my appointment was at 5:15 and I got there at 5:00 and my guinea pig was holding on it was in very bad shape but he was holding on and had his happy moments every now and then but we waited for more than hour to get seen and when we did I don’t think he was checked properly for the condition he was in the nurse kind of held him aggressively and put him in a very small container which I believe was to small for him . I trusted her and thought she must know what she is doing but my Guinea pig which had his blanket with him in the container ( it made him feel comfortable the blanket ) was to big and he couldn’t breathe my sister came in the room and said he couldn’t breathe and before the veterinarian saw my pet he had passed away . I would not recommend coming here if you have a pet that is very weak and sick I saw good reviews about this place but even though I set an appointment as soon as possible thirty minutes after I called ,my pet did not get seen until more than hour later from the apponted time and I believe was not treated well for the condition he was in and they didn’t understand his situation . I understand they had other animals at the moment but other animals at the moment we were there were barking making noise and playing but my pet was not even making a sound just laying on my hand waiting holding on. I trusted them thinking oh maybe they are behind on appointments I’ll wait it’s ok for my pet I’ll wait but an hour later . The desk receptionist even asked me if you can’t make it to 5:15 we can move it to 6:00 when I called so I thought they committed to their appointments but I was wrong and i had too much faith In them I should of left after 30 minutes of not being seen but i had gone so far to get my pet seen . I wouldn’t recommend this vet my pet would probably be alive if I had decided not to go this place or at least left when i had waited for so long or at least hadn’t left him in the container that was too small him the nurse left him in. This place is amazing! So I moved here from Dallas a few months ago and my fur baby has been sick and in pain. I have had my baby for 11 year and I am an over protective mommy. I did research and found a lot of places around my area that were super inexpensive but that was not my worry. I wanted somewhere that was trusted. My DR in Dallas recommended this place. Once my baby was seen and the quote for xrays and urine was not what I was expecting to pay, the Dr discounted the entire visit! (Blessing). Now my baby needs surgery and that bill was let’s says ( I would do anything for my baby) and he discounted that too! Chase will have surgery to remove bladder stones on Thursday and I am not a least bit worried and know he will be in great hands. The staff called me today to check on him and how he was doing on his pain meds until surgery, that just made me even more elated! Great staff and great dr! My rabbit Beans got spayed recently at this clinic. Due to their negligence, part of her IV catheter was still inserted and sent home still inside of her post surgery. She had to be taken to the emergency room to get it removed because they were closed. Something like this is totally unacceptable and as a pet owner I cannot tolerate what they did to my rabbit. This was a simple object that should have never been forgotten when she was sent home. Beans was extremely tired after major surgery (rabbits have to be put under anesthesia for a spay). When she should have been resting she was instead at another animal clinic to get this thing removed. Animal Medical Center of the Village is only reimbursing me for the $40 emergency room visit, no costs from her spay were reimbursed. I had a very good experience at this facility. My guinea pig, who had stopped eating and drinking completely, was treated with so much care and attention here. The vet and the vet technician were very gentle and observant, and sent me home with meds that would relieve his pain and help his digestive system. I was also given food to syringe feed him. Kim was my vet technician and she was incredibly sweet, considerate, and told me everything that I needed to do to help him. She showed my how to administer his medicines and showed me how to ensure that he was most comfortable. She even carried my guinea pig's cage out to the car with me when my hands were full carrying his medication. (I believe) My vet's name was Dr.Kaplan-Stein (she has dark colored hair) , and she was incredible. She took the time to educate me on everything that could be wrong with my guinea pig, and when the X-Ray results came in she thoroughly articulated her concerns and even showed me the X-Ray of a healthy animal as an example of what my guinea pig's X-Ray was supposed to look like. I appreciate both her and Kim for being so kind, sympathetic, and providing great service. All in all, he was given everything possible in order for his health to improve. They are both diligent, completely upfront and honest, and willing to do whatever it takes to make sure their patients and their parents (paying customers) are as comfortable as possible. I found them only because I have a couple exotic pets that a regular vet would not be able to see. However, after having dealt with both of them, I have completely entrusted them with all of my animals. Dr. Jordan and his staff of wonderful vets, techs, attendants etc. have been my "cat vets" for at least 30 years.  They have cared for 9 of my much-beloved cats during that time & have helped all of us through an extremely wide array of kitty issues:  diabetes, cancer, food/skin/respiratory illnesses and allergies, heart worms (!), kidney disease, accidents, occasional behavioral lapses and long-distance travel preparation. When your cats happily and consistently live to be 17 or 18 years old, things will come up, and I credit much of their longterm survival to this vet practice.  While they certainly can deliver high-tech, state-of-the-art care, perhaps the thing that most keeps me coming back is their ability to help the owner make the most compassionate treatment decisions possible, based on many factors.  I highly recommend & have referred many fellow pet owners over the years. I'm writing this review after sitting on it for 3 months. I waited this long to make sure I am not writing out of anger and I am writing to hopefully save someone the grief I've experienced by taking my cat here.  Dr. Kaplan-Stein killed my cat.  I took her in because my cat has had a history of fatty liver disease and she wasn't eating.  Dr. Kaplan-Stein swore up and down she could do anything a specialist could do.  So I let her put in a feeding tube & when we picked up my little girl, the vet said it was the best feeding tube insertion she's ever done!  The only thing that had her concerned was she heard a gurgling noise.Long story short - she poked a hole in her larynx (hence the gurgling noise) and I can tell you for sure my cat went into the clinic breathing & came out not being able to breathe and ultimately it killed her. Oh & she tried to take a liver sample from my cat when she wasn't subdued.  My cat suffered needlessly after speaking with the kind vet at Sugar Land Vet Specialists.  Due to her bloodwork, she should have never been given anesthesia & the feeding tube in the least should have gone through her nose - not in the neck. The reasoning was that he "just seemed uncomfortable" and he was "licking his lips". So they said to come back in 2 weeks, at which point I will be charged AGAIN for the exam/consultation that he received today. It would be a reduced fee, instead of $54.50 it would be $37. What. First off, those actions are completely normal for him. He licks his lips all the time, ever since he was a puppy, it actually means he's happy. And if he was uncomfortable, what would that even matter?? It's a vet! Pets can be uncomfortable there, that's normal, and a ridiculous reason not to treat him AND to charge me AGAIN for redundant services. The whole explanation has holes in it and is generally sketchy (do they not treat any pet who "appears uncomfortable" just to double charge at a later date??) I used to bring my dog and my 3 bunnies to this veterinary hospital but there's no way I'm going back; lack of treatment and over-charging isn't acceptable. In addition, they did not allow us to be with our dog when they performed their routine examinations (no surgery); the doctor only spoke to us for a couple of minutes; and when we visited before they changed their name, our dog was 80 lbs and was not considered to be overweight however, today 82 lbs is considered "overweight". This clinic has an excellent service. Everyone from the receptionist, the thecnitians, and the doctors are very dedicated to the well being of the animals and make you feel that they really care. I had to put down my beloved pet a day before Christmas Eve, doctor Jordan help me to make sure my decision was the right one. He went beyond duties and help me out. He is an excellent human being and great doctor. I have been coming to doctor Jordan for the past 20 years more or less and over the years the clinic has grown and moved location, but the Personal service quality has not change a bit. They come out to the waiting area to greet my two dogs, offer choices in care without pressure and always seem to be spot on with opinions of proper treatments. Be careful about misdiagnosis that results in misprescribed pharmaceuticals, non-treatment of the actual ailment and ultimately, the death of a sweet, lovable and devoted companion like the little girl my girlfriend just had unnecessarily lost. Then the owner of this clinic fails to take any responsibility but will pay for an autopsy so he can discover how badly his staff vet screwed up, but deny any culpability. RIP little Bonita. You will be missed forever. How we could've been so unlucky to have the worst staff vet in the world to treat her is just insane. At least she got fired, and deservedly so. Read Less

Some of the most professional people I've met in a long time. My Ivy and I were sent there via Mrs Talulla at the Beaufort County Animal Shelter and the staff was calm and concerned about my baby and her wellbeing . And two most amazing things happened that day. Ivy's entire visit was taken care of and one of the nurses picked Ivy up and carried her to our car! I was so shocked but so full, I wanted to cry. I have been a client of the Animal Medical Center of the Village for a long time. I consider Dr. Dan Jordan to be the best small animal and bird vet in the state if not a farther reach. I have seen him many times and twice on an emergency basis which the clinic honored. He and his staff have saved Chico's life twice and are now treating him for a serious illness with remarkably good results. Chico is happily at home with me and enjoys a great quality of life thanks to this dedication. Throughout the years I have always been treated professionally and efficiently by any staff member or tech. The new facility is awesome! Dr.Jordan and the entire staff at Animal Medical Center couldn't be nicer to deal with. Dr. Jordan's skills with my Blue Front Amazon, Chico are unsurpassed and his charges for his expert treatment of Chico have always been more than reasonable. The technicians are all terrifically friendly and helpful whether I am there at the clinic for an appointment with Melissa or just receiving an reminder call from Ashley. He is not stressed at all when he has to make a routine visit. I trust all the staff's judgment regarding Chico's care 100%. Animal Medical is an amazing practice!! I used them at their last location, and the new facility is even better! I first started using them in the summer of 2014, I'd just moved to Houston and my bunny was having a problem with his eye. They were kind, professional, and helpful! Sadly, a year later my Mylesie died suddenly. I had never had to deal with a pet who had passed on before. I drove over in tears with his little body and they helped me through the entire process. They performed a necropsy so that I could find some answers and they send me incredibly sweet cards and even planted a tree in his name! I am so grateful to the staff for offering comfort in such a devastating situation.Now, eight months later, I have adopted a kitten! I just took Lorelei to the new location for her first well kitty check up! She is happy and healthy, and I'm a happy momma knowing that she has the best health care around :) Read Less

I'm so happy I came to this hospital, which I did by recommendation from a friend. The vet who saw my hedgehog gave me all the peace of mind I needed and answered all of my questions and concerns. She even recommended I put my hog on a new formula - normally my hedgehog is very picky but she's taken so well to her new formula and eats everything right up and can get onto a healthier weight. Dr. Kaplan-Stein and her Associates are an unbelievable Vet practice. With the level of detail they provide about your pet's health they are also very friendly. I visited with a sick hedgehog which is not a typically common pet, but she was the most knowledgeable exotics vet we have dealt with in the past few years on this species. They are very good at listening to your needs and wishes when it comes to your decision of how you would like to move forward with the treatment process and procedures. She will highly recommend a service if she feels it would be worthwhile, but will ultimately arm you with all the risks and benefits to different solutions and let YOU choose based on your budget, risk level and wishes for your pet. they followup quickly and professionally and we never felt like we were being worked over with dodgy answers like you may find with other vet clinics. unbelievable group and professional attitude, highly recommend Dr. Kaplan-Stein for any pets, even Exotics as its hard to find people versed in Hedgehog Care in the Houston Area. Very fantastic vet office. They go beyond what is "average" for a Vet, to make it convenient for both pets and owner. A lot of times they lose a visit because of it which means money. I feel comfortable using this vet knowing they are sincere, their employees are friendly and they have the pet in mind not how much they can make. It's clear they have the right idea of how to keep their customers long term. I will be using them for my future babies...expecting some in about 3 months. They also offer health certficates, do x-rays, see birds and primates. I was actually sent my marmo x-rays by email. I do recommend them and will send all of my adoptees to them.Read Less

I would highly recommend Dr. Jordan as a vet for exotic animals. The only reason I would rate his practice 4 stars is because I brought a 6 year old rabbit with a severe case of GI Stasis and the bunny died a day later in their care. I cannot blame him since there is only so much a vet can do and and give as far as medicine. After the bunny crossed the bridge their office sent a card and made a donation in her honor.Read Less

After reading the amazing reviews, I expected impeccable service, but I found Dr Dan to be quite standoffish when he examined our cat. He was very quiet and didn't make eye contact with me when he said hello. He didn't make any conversation but I made allowances for that because he gets paid to examine animals, not make idle chatter with people! Still, a little more friendliness would have been appreciated. His examination was very good though, and the assistants were very friendly and efficient. The cost of the visit was a lot cheaper than I expected. Loved the quirky animal-themed decor in a bungalow - eclectic and a reminder that this is an independent practice. Read Less

Dr. Jordan is by far the most compassionate and generous vet I have ever been to. My dwarf hamster recently had to have a cancerous tumor removed and Dr. Jordan and his staff were incredibly sensitive to both of our needs. He cares for all kinds of pets, exotics included. I would never take my animals anywhere else, and trust me, I have plenty of them. I have recommended the Animal Avian Hospital to all of my friends and they have had great experiences there as well.
