Houston, Texas
General Info
Banfield Pet Hospital in Houston orchestrates each pet interaction from initial exam room scents to discharge checks using sensory logic combined with behavioral pacing. Upon arrival pets gain permission to investigate their environment. The process embraces scent-mapping slow movements and selective engagement as integral elements. The clinical team observes the animal's responses to floor texture variations, ceiling acoustic properties, and vertical spatial elements. Pet owners receive invitations to disclose information about their pets' preferred resting spots at home along with the noises their pets avoid and any changes in mealtime rhythms. Banfield Pet Hospital delivers an array of services that encompass injury evaluation alongside immune system diagnostics and muscle elasticity checks while also addressing sensory aversion handling and chronic illness co-management. Exam structure modifications occur through analysis of breath cycles freeze signals gaze breaks and limb withdrawal. If you’re like my family & I, your pet is everything to you and is more of a child than not. With that said and you want to be sure your pet receives the best care that they deserve - don’t take them here. Don’t buy into the Ponzi scheme they call “Optimum Wellness Plan” - and if it’s too late, be sure you do yourself a favor and don’t take them to this location in Houston. Very rarely will you get the opportunity to speak with the vet. And even more rarely, will you ever leave there feeling like you didn’t just get hosed and if your pet will truly be fixed or if it will just cause more issues. Our pet was diagnosed with pancreatitis and an ear infection 6 days ago. We very thoroughly asked questions about how to treat and make sure our pet would heal the best he possibly could. The staff gave us the list of everything to do and follow. We followed that to a “T” - only challenge was, the medicine they wanted to us administer could not effectively be done as it required our pet to eat, which he was not able/willing to do. Fast forward 12 hours later, our dog has nothing but a bloody stool, continues to spit up and is extremely lethargic. Fortunately, our friends at Houston Bark Park sent us/him to another local vet. They immediately diagnosed him, got him on fluids and turned him around in the right direction. They also did a full exam and showed that he DID NOT have an ear infection - another misdiagnosis by this vet. Because of Banfield’s lack luster approach to our dogs health, we almost lost him. He was hospitalized for 5 days. Given an IV for all of those days along with the appropriate oral medicine. Banfield misdiagnosed, mistreated, and made up illnesses to increase the total vet bill and total charge. Read Less

I love Banfield and this location is great! I have used Banfield since I was a college student straight out of high school. The payment plans were a great option for me at the time. 7 years later, I still take my kitties to the many different locations available as we have moved. I love that there is always one accessible, with all of our personal information on hand anywhere I have lived. Staff has always been kind everywhere I have gone. They are quite busy at certain times, but that is very understandable. Personally, this particular location has been one of my favorites. It's close to where I live and the staff is very kind. Especially as of late, I have found rarely any wait time and appointments available as early as the next day. Of course, I don't expect that to always be the case. I appreciate the drop off option, it's very convenient. I have even had to call the vet multiple times for questions, and someone is always ready to assist me or call back. This is not an animal hospital and not too much can be expected during emergencies, but as far as veterinarian office, it is certainly a great place to take your pets. They are caring and go out of their way to assist when needed. Banfield as a company offers online control of accounts, and they have always been easy to work with when issues arise. As far as this location, the representatives have been great at reminding me of appointments needed and making sure my cats get everything we pay for. Overall, I think Banfield is great and I think this location is a wonderful! Read Less

They have a service where you can drop your pet off in the morning and then pick him/her up in the afternoon. I tried this for the first time and the LAST time this week with my 7 year old cat who had never been "dropped off" at a vet before. Dropping off, was simple and easy. Felt like everything would be fine. Around 2:00 PM, I called to check on her and the Tech that answered let me know that she was doing fine, they were still waiting on test results to come back, she was sleeping in her carrier, and that it should be about 5 PM when she is done. Ok, not a problem.I then head over there around 5 since I was already in the area and don't live super close. When I get there, the same Tech lets me know it will be about 15 minutes before she is ready. I was fine with that, could do some shopping anyway. Then, within 5 minutes of shopping, I am called over because my cat "can't be handled". At this point, I'm thinking, "this has never happened before". I get back there and my cat is acting VERY aggressive, to the point that she could possibly hurt me. I was shocked by this! 20 minutes later, I am able to kennel her safely.I was then told at at check-out that nothing was performed on her, except her temperature, and that they couldn't get any other services in because of my cat's behavior. A lot of thoughts are going through my head at this point:1. I called at 2:00 PM and they said they were waiting on test results to come back. I kindly asked the Tech at this point what that meant. Her answer, "there weren't any tests done". Oh, ok??? SO I WAS LIED TO?2. When I walked in, you told me she would be "finished up" in 15 minutes. I get back there, and nothing has been done at all???Maybe because you waited, obviously, until 5 PM to try and service an animal that is number one, 7 years old, number 2, a cat, and number 3 that has been kenneled ALL DAY. I would be upset too!!Are you kidding me? My cat was in a small cage for 9 hours? For nothing? If there was an issue, I should have been told at 2:00 PM when I called to check. Never again! Not only was I lied to and disrespected, but my animal was as well. Shame on you, Banfield. Read Less

Have had all of my pets on The Wellness plan since I got them years ago. We hadused this location for the past several years. They are always courteous and able to help to make any last minute appointments available within the next day or two. But last year we moved out to Pasadena. Needless to say, the Banfield hospitals out here are TERRIBLE and are always completely booked with their appointments. Any office visits must be made 2 to 3 weeks in advance! We continue to make the hour drive out to this location just so that we can get veterinary service in a timely manner. Read Less

I have never written a yelp review before but feel like I need to here. I thought Banfield would be good for spreading out the cost of vaccinations and teeth cleaning. However, it is not worth it!!!!On 2 occasions I called to make appointments for my dog and they couldn't see him for over a week.  One time it was really bad allergies where is face was swollen and the other was an injured leg.  I fought back hard on the leg, and they ended up seeing him but he was kenneled all day at the clinic only being seen at 4pm as I was picking him up.After those two occasions I still thought they were good for shots and teeth cleaning. However, when my other Chihuahua was having extreme respiratory issues and I ran to Banfield in a panic as my dogs tongue was turning blue and the lady behind the desk (with no emotion) said "sorry we cant see you today. Our next available appointment is in 10 days" I was done. I am cancelling my Wellness Plan and will never refer anyone! At this point, I don't feel like I can trust this clinic to put my dogs under to get their teeth cleaned which was the only real "benefit" of their plans. In addition, when you go to drop off or pick up, plan to be waiting with nobody acknowledging you for at least 25 minutes.I'd rather pay double or triple elsewhere for peace of mind.  My sister is now opting to cancel her Wellness Plans and pay whatever cancellation fee.  This place is not worth it at all! I agree with others in that Banfield is a good place for preventive care, specifically their puppy health plan. I really believe that it has been worth every penny. The staff and vets are very nice. However, for other health issues and older dogs, I can see how people are frustrated. My pup had a cherry-eye looking thing pop up on day and she was prescribed tobradex (antibiotics+steroids) and unfortunately it did not go away. Another vet wanted her to continue using the ointment for the inflammation, but I didn't want to because of the steroids. The great thing about the puppy plan is that we did not have to pay for the multiple visits and diagnostic testing they did.We decided to take her to a specialist (I know, it's crazy, they have dog ophthalmologists). Our pup was diagnosed with a congenital problem of a rolled third eyelid (which does not need to be treated with tobradex, however, the vet said it would be a good prophylactic treatment for infections). It was definitely more expensive, but I'm glad I got a second opinion and that is something you can always do too. This is very similar to human healthcare, you have a primary care doctor (Banfield)...and then you see specialists for more specific diseases or an ER for emergencies. Read Less

Guess I'm the oddball, but it is not easy to find a vet in Houston open after 1pm on Saturday that can take clients at a whim. As one of the few vets open past 1pm on Saturday, a long wait time should be expected. Anyways, I rescued a dog with a piece of bone sticking out of her tail, and they told me to bring her in and that they'd treat her. I was able to drop her off and pick her up before closing time. If I had to bring her to an animal emergency room, the cost would've been about 6x their surgery cost. For someone in a pickle, they pulled through, and their staff was extremely courteous and friendly. Big thanks to Dr. Chu and nurse Jeanique! Read Less

I have no problem with the vet services however there is one big problem I want to point out. They say the drop off hours are from 7-9am, but twice (once at this location, once at the one on westhimer@ dunvale) there was no one there to take my cat. I get it if you're running a couple minutes late and you cant get in til 7:15 or so but this seems to be a regular thing with Banfield. I got there at 7:40am and had to wait for the person that worked there to show up. Basically I was late to work because the people that work here are late to work.. not fair. It's unfair and unprofessional that they list the drop of hours and then no one is there. If you plan on dropping off your pet, just be aware that you might not be able to at the listed drop off hours because the employees continually are late. Finding a new vet for sure Read Less

I recently had the worst experience of my life at the Banfield clinic on Shepherd. My kitten was scheduled to be neutered on a Saturday. I was given an appointment card and called to confirm the appt. the day before the surgery. I showed up at 8am on Saturday and waited (as usual) for 45 min before I was told surgeries were not done on Saturdays. I asked for an explanation and they simply said, ""I don't know, I could call and ask the vet but she'll be pis*ed."" No one said they were sorry or offered an explanation. I spoke to the manager and she never apologized or tried to figure out how this happened. They simply behaved as if it was my fault that the appt. was scheduled wrong (I still have the appt card that the receptionist wrote out for me!!!). In the meantime, my cat was stressed out from being stuck in his carrier for over an hour. In addition to this, I found out later that my cat should not have eaten for 12 hours before surgery; however, no instructions were given to me about how I should handle pre-surgery. This is not my first issue with Banfield. 1) Everytime you go you see a different vet who spends less than 2 minutes with your pet. The first vet I saw refused to give my kitten any meds for his respiratory infection which caused his infection to get significantly worse so I had to take him back later for meds. 2) The office staff is completely inept and RUDE! They take at least 45 minutes to check you in each time you go. They never make eye contact or tell you why you're waiting so long. They just shuffle around in a daze. 3) The animal techs in the back do not even have a high school education. They should not be adminstering vaccines! 4) They have no concern for the safety and health of your animal! I will NEVER go to this clinic or any other Banfield clinic again.

I would recommend a different Banfield but stay away from this location. They claim with the pet wellness plan that you can bring your dog in whenever you need to but when i finally tried to bring in my dog who has already been sick for over 2 days they say to bad, no times available here. Don't tout this as a benefit of the wellness plan then always have nothing available when you have a pet emergency.Read Less

Read Less

I have a two year old female American short hair. My boyfriend and I had never had her vaccinated. She was going into heat twice a month. It was time to have her fixed. The staff was very helpful. The technicians were very knowledgeable. And Dr. Ward is absolutely incredible. We were able to place our cat on the wellness plan without any issues. I know that she is in good hands. She recently went in to be spayed. Her incision was immaculate and they made sure to prepackage all of her medications for the week. I love this clinic. Again, Dr. Ward is a saint.

Read Less
