UPDATE the two stars are for the vet himself for being nice, but otherwise dont bother. Called inquiring for an MRI and the receptionist proceeded to tell me the vet would want to examine my dog and THEN he would give me a quote for the MRI scan. Made the appointment and guess what.... they dont even do MRI scans. wasted my time and I’m $140 short because of it. Update per the response from the owner: when originally calling, i was only asking for a quote on an mri scan. the receptionist failed to tell me that this specialty vet clinic did not have an mri on call to be able to complete the procedure. i made this review to have future clients be aware that the receptionist will not tell you a sum of prices. i apreciate all the words and advice the vet gave to us but i do not apreciate the business not telling me that they cannot preform a procedure i already new was necessary to begin with. i did not go to this clinic to give my dog an exam. i was referred to this place for an mri when previously already having an exam from my vet. i told all of this to the recetioptionist when i originally called. Brought my dog here for breathing problems. The first Dr. I saw recommended treatment for a couple of weeks, and if that didn't work, do a scope and maybe surgery. When I came back to set up for the scope and possible surgery, because the treatment didn't work, not only did he not remember me, but he didn't remember what he had said the first time. He even asked me why I was there! Once he was back up to speed, I was told another Dr. would be doing the scope/surgery. I could go on, but I'll cut to the chase. No surgery. They said the scope revealed an an enlarged pallet. A biopsy was done and, thankfully, no cancer. They said it was just an inflammation and gave me medication. At this point we had spent close to $2000. with them and her breathing was only marginally better. They call themselves specialist....I think not. I just lost my little girl this last Friday. Her lungs killed her. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS PLACE!! Read Less

Today was our third time there. We saw a different ophthalmology doctor than we had the 2 previous visits. Dr. Swanson did not listen to my questions or concerns. Told me I was wrong about the visits and procedures from the 2 visits before. I have documents saying what happened and he flat out told me thats not what the other Dr said or did for our dog. Telling me the opposite of what the dr before told us and when i said what the dr said to us about her condition he quickly said "No he would never say that". Very rude and inconsiderate. Treated me like a child. Then when the nurse brought me the medication for my dog she was very rude and basically fussing at me when I asked her questions. I will never ever go back there. I've never been treated so poorly in a "professional" office. I would not recommend them to anyone. My pets are worth more than that and need better treatment. 👎👎👎👎👎👎 Read Less

Editing my review as of 03/10/2018: I've been in contact with Bay Area Veterinary Specialists and they have provided me the records and went above and beyond in explaining everything that happened. I took my cat Friskie here last year in early October of 2017 for a blood transfusion and recommended tests and everything went well except for the abnormally large right front paw from the transfusion. He started having seizures several days later which may or may not have been a delayed reaction to the transfusion (but they informed me it was rare and highly unlikely). He had Chronic Kidney Disease for several years and has been battling it. They were kind enough to give him a blood transfusion even though all of his levels were not that great (which usually places would decline the transfusion from what I have heard and give it to another animal that needed it more). The reason I changed my review from 1-star to 3-stars is because they provided me the records and I have some-what of a closure of what happened. Although I am still paying off care credit (around $1,500~ left) from the visit. It is sort of expensive for getting the proper care needed. Dr. Savannah Craig is an amazing veterinarian and although it hurts even till this day to have lost my Friskie, I know he was in good hands and I am thankful for them for being able to give Friskie a blood transfusion to begin with with his then-diagnosis. I would recommend this place for emergency veterinarian care, just be careful and be aware of all of the risks associated with any procedure and do your research before you make any decisions as well. -George Rhoads Read Less

After reading the reviews, I was really worried about going here, especially since it's a almost 4 hour drive for me to get to the office (I live in Corpus Christi and this is the closest veterinarian cardiologist to me). Everyone at the front office of the cardiology section was super friendly. I was called to the back as soon as I finished the paperwork. I saw Dr. Brayley. He was really nice and took the time to answer the list of questions I had. I personally had a great experience here and will be taking my dog back every 3 months. We took our dog to this place because he had a tumor and he needed surgery. So they charged us $640 just to tell us what we already knew! Then they told us that the surgery was gonna be around 2500 dollars so they were supposed to called us the following week to talk about the surgery. They never called us so we did and appointment and when we took our dog they charged us again $300 ! They don't care about your pet they only care about the money! Read Less

I have two Scottish Terriers that are suffering from bladder cancer. Unfortunately, the long term outlook is not great. Dr. Susaneck has been wonderful in prescribing treatments that will help prolong their lives comfortably. Caring friendly staff. Everyone is helpful when I am in there, which is a lot. I wouldn't even give this place 1 star. I was referred here by the vet I was taking my dog too and he did nothing but looked at him and said surgery needed to be done immediately. I think that should be the last option and was hoping to have had better answers. I literally handed them 200 dollars in a matter of minutes. My dog is already showing improvements again from the meds alone and with a 3rd opinion from elsewhere they have hopes for him. Thanks for nothing. Read Less

Had one of the best experience's dealing with a Veterinarian!! Dr. Swanson shook my hand and looked me directly in the eye and I knew then that I was in good hands! My Schnauzer dog is completely blind and he completely was accommodating to him! He did not treat me like I was a bad pet owner!! And Kudo's to Sheila his assistant!! She held Rocky as Dr. Swanson had to do some eye checks with his machinery! And Sheila kissed his forhead because he was shaking!! That meant so much to me! Please do not let Dr. Swanson's tech touch your dog! Last visit she kept yelling at me to not let him fall off the table. I am sure she is used to dogs with no sight that could fall but he has a cataract in one eye and can see. He's 11 years old and has yet to fall off a vet table, I think we're good. Today she took it to a whole new level and when he walked to sniff the corner of the table she SNATCHED HIM. Scared him half to death so he jumped so bad when Dr. Swanson went to examine him. My 6lb. Pom mix had a heart defect. Dr. Shipley is the cardiologist that took care of him. The surgeon did an amazing job that was a risky surgery for our little one. Not even a week after his heart surgery is has bounced back to his old self full of energy and being feisty. Although he's still recovering. He is alive, well , and very spoiled. Do not bring your dog here for a surgery consultation. I was expecting anywhere between $35-$75 for their time. Instead we were charged $135 for the doctor to "physically examine" him. The problem is the doctor never once touched our dog, Ron. All he did was look at his x-rays we brought on a cd from the original ER that treated Ron and spoke to us for a few minutes. He then had an assistant print us up an estimate of a "low end" or "high end" itemized list for surgery. Breaking down Ron's care into those two categories is now what I consider acceptable. We were dismissed when we said the cost was really high and walked out. It's funny that they were able to give us an itemized list for a very expensive surgery but when we asked for an itemized list for the consult they quickly said they don't do that. We visited Bay Area's opthamology department today with our Great Dane puppy. I cannot say enough great things about this office. The facility was nice and clean. The entire staff was very friendly and helpful. Shelia was seriously the best technician I have ever seen. She loved on our baby boy and kept him calm the entire time. Dr. Swanson was amazing. He was extremely knowledgeable and respectful. We never felt rushed. He took the time to answer all of our questions in detail and explained everything he was doing. This is the place to go - period. I drove down from Dallas and it was worth the time and effort. Dr. Brayley and Dr. Herrmann were great and they saved my min schnauzer. Dallas surgeons wanted to install a pace maker (risky) for cataract surgery (dog has a minor heart issue). Dr. Brayley and Dr. Herrmann teamed up and worked it out so that it was not necessary - and my dog sees 100% now. The staff are all great - very kind, considerate and personal. Plus the prices are very reasonable. I'll gladly be driving the 300 miles anytime my dog needs anything more complicated than a normal vet visit. If you love your pets and want the best - this is the place to go. Read Less
