I started coming to this clinic when I rescued my French Bulldog Preston in 2013. In 2016 he was diagnosed with a heart murmur and everything went down the hill fast. He had an inoperable fast growing heart tumor. By the end of the year he started having syncopal episodes that turned into seizures and had to be put on medication to help regulate his heartbeat. He always took meds poorly so we were not too surprised the most commonly used drug didn't work. He developed severe aggression. Dr. Germann did so much research to make Preston as comfortable as possible and found another drug, not so commonly used and only manufactured in one pharmacy in Houston, that worked wonders for Preston. He had to be put down in March of 2017, much later than we expected. Dr. Germann was there for us the whole time, answered any calls, he was very sensible in his recommendations and he put our minds at peace despite the tragedy of the situation because he made sure we knew we were doing ALL we could. Later that year we bought a house and moved away from the clinic and intended on switching vets for our convenience but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I don't think I could ever trust anyone as much as I trust Dr. Germann. It's an hour drive for us now but well worth it. Read Less

While they have been fantastic at diagnosing and solving health problems, neither of them are very approachable or freely give information. Some of my questions went unanswered, or I was given literature to read that didn't really apply to what I asked. Dr. Germann has however personally called me on more than one occasion to follow up on vet visits, which I really appreciate.BKAH is one of the more expensive veterinary clinics out there, which is the biggest downside, though I'd say the service is somewhat worth it. Also, when my kitten had GI upset, I brought in a stool sample so they could run tests. We found out a couple weeks later at a follow up appointment that they didn't test for a certain GI parasite because the sample wasn't big enough - we were never called about this to provide a bigger sample, but we were charged for it. They DID make up for this though by retesting free of charge.I keep coming back to BKAH because of the veterinary assistant. I have lived in Houston for almost three years, and BKAH impressed me from the very first time I brought my beloved fur babies in.  I have three 'kids', all rescues, and the staff and physicians of BKAH have always gone above and beyond to meet our needs.  They do a wonderful job of taking care of them when we board them, and on one occasion when our two boxers rough housed a little too hard in the kennel, they immediately called my fiancé and I to explain what happened and how they were going to treat a wound.  Also, me being a dog lover, I have rescued two dogs now, one off the side of the road, and the other with a number of medical needs (including surgeries) and the staff is incredible when it comes to working with you on payment plans.  They always say, "We take care of our good samaritans."  Furthermore, they are currently working with me to help find one stray pup a home!  I fully trust and highly recommend the amazing people at Bissonnet Kirby Animal Hospital.  Your fur babies will be in kind and loving hands with them! Tessie the wonder dog is a regular patient and boarder at BKAH. She is not the friendliest dog - she bites when she is scared - but the staff treats her with kindness and patience. Dr. Germain recommended that Tessie shed some pounds - and she did with a little human help. When Tessie boards there she spends most of her time in the backyard romping with all the other dogs. Had to find a vet quickly on MLK Day when my little Mini Dachshund was suffering from a sprained neck.  I called several vet clinics that had been referred to me, but no one was able to squeeze in my pup for (what I thought was an emergency) visit.  I called BKAH and they fit me in no problem.  We arrived and thankfully there weren't any other animals in the waiting area (my Dachshund can be very territorial) and we were called to the back quickly.  Dr. Henry was very attentive and asked all the right questions, without seeming judgmental at all about how my pup injured himself.  She gave him a full examination and suggested a course of prescriptions to get him back to his normal self.  She mentioned X-Rays, but didn't urge me to get one which would've cost me much more, because she honestly didn't think he needed it.  She even followed up a week later with a phone call to check on his progression and to see if he was feeling better, which I thought was a really kind gesture.  As someone who is very loyal to my vet back home in Beaumont, I didn't think I'd find a vet clinic to match the care and attentiveness I was used to - but I found that in the Bissonnet Kirby Animal Hospital. I adopted a dog about a year and a half ago and I've only used Bissonnet Kirby for boarding and vet needs. I am beyond pleased with the service. The doctors will answer questions over the phone and let you know if you can get by with a little home care or if your pet needs to come in. They are very patient and gentle with you and your pet and explain everything that is being done. When my dog was recently in with some sort of GI issue, they explained everything that could be wrong and different things that they suggested to treat each possible cause. When your pet is being boarded, they do not hesitate to call you if something happens and don't mind if you call them to check on them. They even caught a UTI that my dog had while she was being boarded, just because they took the time to notice that she was urinating more often than normal. I love that their prices are very reasonable. I also like that they work with Shaggy Dog Rescue; this gives me confidence that they can handle complex cases, and I think it's nice that they (probably) give discounted services to a rescue. Our dogs and cat have been patients of BKAH as well as regular boarders for over a year and a half now. The doctors are all very patient with them, and we have been pleased by the service. The only issue I have ever had was with the employee someone mentioned on another review and he was only working there for a very short time and is definitely gone now. I can be a little overprotective of my "babies," and they never seem to mind the endless questions and calls when something is wrong. I feel very confident that they are in good hands. We have lived in 3 cities with our animals, and I feel that the pricing here is fair compared to what I've paid (more and less in different cities), but I think I get much more personalized care and attention here. WOW, can i just say what a refreshing change. So I have been a long term client of Bissonnet Kirby Animal Hospital, and recently found out that my old vet sold the clinic! I WAS SHOCKED, but what a change. I took my pet in on a tuesday and meet the new owner Dr. Germann and the other doctor Dr Donaruma. They were absolutely wonderful. They both sat and spoke with me in the lobby and made me really feel valued as a client. Dr Donaruma was soooo sweet to my dog, and the atmophere, yet tradional due to the historical building the clinic is in, was so fesh and new. The staff was so friendly and the guy at the front desk was so knowledgable. This place has gone thru a huge upgrade and from what I hear its going to continue groing and changing! My husband and I have been taking our animals to see Dr. Dawson for 3 years now. I have nothing but good things to say about him and his staff. They've always made time to see our animals on the same day we called for an appointment, and when our dog had to have major surgery, Dr. Dawson diagnosed the condition immediately and made a stellar recommendation for a wonderful surgeon. In my experience, the staff have always been friendly and helpful. The office is small, so they stay busy, but have always been professional and very courteous. In regards to the other reviewers, they seem to be grousing for petty reasons in my opinion. Animal care, like people care costs money, and I want a vet who is professional and knowledgeable, not one that fawns all over the animals to make the owner feel better about leaving their pets while they go on vacation. Having just moved to Houston, I was a bit hesitant about boarding our Frenchie in a new place without any personal recommendations beforehand, and as it turned out, I was rightfully worried. I found Bissonnet Kirby just by Google searching for a nearby boarding kennel, and felt reassured by the fact that the kennel is also a veterinary hospital; however, when I dropped off our pup, I got an uneasy feeling as a result of the stark, unfriendly atmosphere and the aloof attitude of the staff. The workers wear no nametags and were quick to stick the dogs in the back and come right back out - no greetings or affection whatsoever toward the animals. Although their demeanor bothered me at first, what really upset me was the apparent lack of care for the animals during their stay. When we went to pick up our dog, the worker had no idea which dog was ours, assumed she was a ""he,"" put on big headphones before walking back into the room of loud, lonely barks and wails, said nothing about her stay or how things went during her FOUR days there, and practically yanked the receipt out from under my pen as he was in such a hurry to get on to his next task. Our poor dog was almost crazed with intent to get out the door - not her normal behavior when we pick her up from her usual kennel. She also felt damp when I picked her up, which I assumed was a result of the bath they advertise as included; however, I quickly noticed her hair was thick with shedded hair and old dirt, as if she had been left completely untouched the entire time. I can't be sure of this, but I can only assume her dampness was a feeble attempt to make it appear she had received a bath. Upon returning home, she urinated for so long, I was not sure she had been let out at all the night before. She was also constipated the whole day following and was obviously in pain as she tried to go ""#2,"" even though we provided her normal food. I can't say exactly what occured during her stay, but I will say I will never go back. Read Less

Be aware that no one is on-site 100% of the time when the animals board overnight. Read Less

My kitten had been sick with sneezing/watery eyes and hair falling out since I had adopted her 1 month ago. The receptionist, nurses, and veterinarians at Bissonnet Kirby Animal Hospital were incredibly nice and informative. They were kind and gentle with my kitten the entire time. The vet bill was itemized so I knew exactly what I was paying for and the nurse explained each medicine to me. My kitten and I left very happy customers and I will definitely be going back for immunizations as she grows! Read Less

I am very excited to see what gonna happen at my REVISED vet clinic !! Read Less

Read Less

the vet did not seem very dog friendly, and was very clinical. he did not try to reassure the dog, but brought in an assisstant to hold the dog down (which was not necessary, he was being very good.) the exam room was claustrophobic and what should have been a $45 office visit turned into $205. my dog had a cyst which the vet couldnt explain, so he drew some fluid from the swelling($55!!, i could have done that myself, and why wasnt it included in the office visit!?!?! it took a second, not exactly a high level proceedure.) and then another $100 for the lab work. two days later i have yet to hear back with the results. I don't think i'll be going back there. Read Less
