Ever since I have moved to the area I take my Olde English Bulldogge here. She absolutely loves the staff and always gets the best attention needed. I wished my dog was treated like a patient and not a mean pitull. The staff was "okay". Them helping me, felt like it was something they didn't want to do. I'm sure they have to deal with a lot. But from the scheduling to the overpricing and treatment, with no checkup? It was baaad. Do not go here untill issues are fixed. Read Less

Called to set up an appointment with the Avian Vet... but they only sounded like they didnt want to take a look at birds. They said if I scheduled something down for a bird that it was gonna take up to 2-3 months. So I scheduled somewhere else and my parrot has already been seen! Read Less

i took in the family dog for a check up i was advised to put the dog down when i informed them that it was not my decision they tried to put him on medication that would they said could very likely shut his liver down and would ultimatly kill him any way, it was all very shady Read Less

My dog has been a patient their for about 3 years, since our last vet closed down.  The service is excellent and the place is kept in immaculate condition, at least for a place that deals with animals.My dog has seen pretty much all the doctors their at any one time.  All of them are great.  A year and a half ago my dog suffered a grave injury which required emergency surgery.  Dr. Deschamps and Dr. Hoobler BOTH worked together to save my dog's life.  Without them, I would be without my dog. I won't take my English bulldogs to anyone else! I can tell they love animals and they do everything they can to make us all feel comfortable. They have sobbed with me when I have had to make the difficult choice to put my pet down and that speaks volumes to me about how much they care. Read Less

This vet is more for check ups and prevention because if your dog is sick or dying, they won't schedule you in until next week!  I had to find another doctor three times as my dogs were sick.  All three passed away. So I don't recommend them at all! They won't make time for you even if you have gone to them for 10 years!  Find another vet! Read Less

I have taken my animals to Brookdale for over 20 years. Dr. DesChamps is our vet but we have seen every vet there at one time or another and they are all superb. They tell you what is wrong, explain treatment options, explain tests, etc. The staff is great and they earnestly care about animals. Dr. DesChamps is an avian certified vet. Once, I found an injured bird and brought it in. I was fully prepared to pay for the bird's care but Dr. Deschamp took the bird for care at no charge because it was a wild animal. I just love them and trust them completely with my beloved animals' care. Read Less

My dog gets excellent care. Dr.D and Dr Hoobler are great doctors and are both very smart and compassionate. My dog loves them so much. The vet techs and office staff are very helpful and friendly. Even though I moved several more miles from Brookdale, I feel it is worth the drive. Brookdale is an amazing clinic and Dr D is the best. I have been trusting her with my pets for 12+ years now and I highly recommend them to anyone.Pros: They will not overcharge or up charge your bill. Dr. D knows her stuff and has been right 100% of the time on my babies. Instead of paying hundreds of dollars in diagnostics, we chose to treat what was probably going on and she was spot on. Every Time. Dealing with elderly babies, some vets want to test and test, but Dr. D understands, at certain points, that we are dealing with quality of life issues. She has always been available for phone calls and calls me directly, after surgeries, to update me on what's going on. Yes, I know I am the neurotic client who calls almost hourly to check on my pet. She has never made me feel guilty about this. Very affordable, very knowledgeable, and very trustworthy.Cons: It is not easy to get an appointment, even if my dog is sick or has had an injury. I've had to go to other places to get my animals seen to on an emergency basis. But for follow ups and when I do have the time to wait it out (sometimes even a couple of weeks) I always go back to Brookdale. I can only justify this by saying Dr. D is a great vet and everyone knows it. Of course there is a wait. She is just one person and can only see so many dogs. Another con, probably the biggest, the reception staff (mainly one certain person) can be just plain rude. So rude, unfortunately, that many people I have referred there will never go back. Sad really b/c Dr. D is a great vet and some of the staff are just amazing. I find my self tensing up when the phone is ringing hoping Alfreda, Anita, or Bonnie will answer. These women are amazing and I can't say enough good things about them. (Dr. D, they deserve raises!)To the staff at Brookdale, I love you guys and thanks for all you do. I love Brookdale Animal Hospital!  Everyone that I know through dog training, my dog walk group,friends and neighbors go there.  They are less expensive than other animal clinics AND they have the equipment to perform procedures that a lot of other clinics do not have.  I have recommended that people change vets and go there and many of them have and are highly satisfied.  What sold me on Brookdale was one morning we were walking our Irish Wolfhound through the woods and we were distracted by a deer and didn't see a snake in our path.  Our dog was bitten so we rushed him to the car and took him to Brookdale.  We were not patients there at the time and, yet, they took our dog in immediately and took care of him.  We have been customers of Brookdale every since. This is your every day vet clinic.  I used them when I first moved to the neighborhood because I felt like they practiced well balanced veterinary medicine ... not being overly aggressive with treatments yet referring to specialists when necessary.  Their waiting room is open and inviting.  The price is right.  Their front desk staff are typical of vet clinic staff ... sometimes very friendly, sometimes giving a snooty air.  I did stop going, though, for reasons I elaborate below.This clinic is designed to provide routine veterinary care.  Most clients have healthy animals that come just for regular check-ups or the run-of-the-mill things like hotspots.  So your pet probably won't run into any infectious diseases while sitting in their waiting room.However, I rescue dogs who often have illnesses related to neglect.  I felt that some of the clinic vets (Dr. Deschamps, owner, excluded) weren't competent in dealing with these cases.  My own dog was an aggressive dog who had been treated by the only veterinary behaviorist in the city.  She was already established on maintenance medication (Zoloft), but they were uncomfortable prescribing it and I had to be really pushy about it.  They weren't good at handling her, either.  I owned another dog with skin allergies and I felt like I had to be really pushy to get enough medication to control his symptoms.  Granted, this is not the population their clinic is designed to serve, but the vets were being overly conservative.Also, I had a hard time getting appointments, especially with Dr. Deschamps.  They are frequently booked, and even if my dog is sick, they can't work me in.  A friend of mine, who has spent quite a bit at their clinic, also left for the same reason.  They couldn't work her in even when her pet was sick. My visit was on 3/21/13 with Dr. Deschamps and I must say that I feel great having chosen Brookdale! We just got our first family pet and I googled vet's and I'm so glad to have come across them. The staff is outstanding. I spent a bit on the phone getting info from them and since my appt was 1 whole week away, I had a lot of questions concerning my pup that they were so happy to answer (unlike other places I called that asked me to come in and were bothered having to answer anything!). On our visit the Dr. spent a lot of time answering the 100,259,266 questions we had. Very patient, kind, and genuinely caring staff and super pet loving atmosphere! ... This is by far the WORST place i have ever taken my 1yr old german sheperd/chow. He was given the wrong treatment and is now fighting for his life because of it. When i told the hospital what happened i was told that they did all they could for the amount of money we said we had on us at the time and instead of giving us a chance to go and pull out more they just gave him the basic service they could. They have no care or respect for animals who their owners dont have the cash up front. What is worse is the fact that he got into rat poison and they dismissed it because it wasnt in their fancy book. They have lost several customers because of this and i just though people should know the kind of monsters they are taking their pet too. Read Less
