I have been taking my cats here for a few years now, and have always enjoyed my visits with Dr Wainwright. He is to the point and does not push a bunch of extra vaccines or tests on me like other vets have in the past. He also is extremely affordable. I bring 1 of my cats in once a quarter for his asthma flares and the vet and his techs allow me to handle my own cat to reduce his stress levels during the visit. It has been extremely difficult for me to find a vet for my cats bc they're cats basically. I even paid the high price of going to Jersey Village Animal Hospital a couple times only to watch my cat lose hair faster than a porcupine loses quills. If you think that's the cats fault, you must not know anything about cats. After my visits at Canfel, the office always follows up with me about 1-2 weeks later to make sure my pets are doing well. I am extremely grateful to have found Dr Wainwright and continue to recommend his services to all my friends and family with pets in the area. Thank you, Canfel! Read Less

We dropped off a sweet but scared GSD that we had just trapped for a rescue and were just totally amazed at the incredible gentleness and patience Paige, the vet tech, showed to terrified Huck. Her kindness, compassion and clear expertise on reading Huck's body language and whale eyes said volume about her knowledge and dedication to animal welfare. Being in rescue, one tends to meet many vet techs who don't realize care --Paige was the total antithesis of that and we were so grateful for how delicately and gingerly she handled scared Huck. We did not get to meet Dr. Wainright, but if his professional standards commensurate with the ones of his vet tech Paige, I give Canfel 4 paws up!!' Read Less

I recently had a CRISIS situation with my English Bulldog, Hamilton. I have a NORMAL vet that I typically use but because it was 5 o'clock and it seemed absolutely DIRE that he get care NOW I chose to go AROUND the corner to the "Animal HOSPITAL" the sign says ANIMAL HOSPITAL so when I went in I thought my sweet boy would be safe! My boy was trying to vomit and had a bit of diarrhea. I was concerned because his stomach was REALLY hard like a woman in labor having a contraction. I went in and explained the things I was alarmed by and the Vet was short, rude and tried to make ME the CLIENT feel like I had chosen a BAD breed of animal. I asked him what he thought was wrong and if he was going to die. His words VERBATIM, "he is a bulldog I can tell you that, he could be FINE one minute and DIE the next but he DOESNT seem to be in crisis right now!" That should've been MY FIRST clue to leave but I actually BELIEVED this guy!! I thought well maybe I am OVER reacting so I SAT back down in a room BY myself while my puppy STRUGGLED to get air, gagged until he turned BLUE, and waited! We waited for 45 mins before he gave Hamilton an X-ray!! After he reviewed the X-ray he proceeded to SEND my DYING puppy and I to an Emergency HOSPITAL which is EXACTLY where I thought I was!!!! A HOSPITAL! We left the office and my sweet boy and I sat in traffic trying to get to an animal hospital on 249. He died in the way and I gave him cpr STILL driving but it was too late!!! Please please please if YOU LOVE tour pets and they are YOUR family do NOT go to this Man!!! My puppy had bloat! He needed a procedure!!! He needed a surgery! He could possibly still be alive. This place will charge you for every penny on standard procedures such as spaying and neutering. They will charge you for every machinery, anesthesia, equipment, medicine, syringes, blood test, examination, and even charge you for the air that your pet breathes in the operating room. This clinic will try to avoid giving an estimate invoice on the days or weeks prior to the date of the requested procedure. I had to ask the receptionist politely for a detailed invoice/estimate and you can tell by the scowl on her face and her nasty demeanor that her superiors probably told her to be evasive when honestly disclosing this type of information. They follow the "surprise the customer and present the bill at the very end with bogus charges" philosophy. The invoice/estimate was enough to scare the hell out of me, because it was only an "estimate" and the cost was at $190+ and will be including much more charges after the procedure has been performed. This is for a standard spay/neuter and not an operation to save an animal that requires major surgery after being hit by a car. Are you kidding me? I think they just charged me another $100.00 for borrowing their pen and breathing in their waiting room. Read Less

I have a rescued husky who is extremely lovable around people he knows and those around me when he meets someone new. Unfortunately he is very skiddish around new people if he gets loose. One day he got out and when a neighbor was pushing him, to get him out of the street - he bit her, not too bad but she pulled her hand away and made it worse. I had to quarantine him for 10 days because of this. I have a 9 month old, 4 year old and 2 older kids the dog plays with all the time. He is a really good dog but loves the challenge of getting out, tendency I guess of his breed. Canfel Care was the best pricing for Quarantine I found in the Houston area and it seems you get what you pay for there. When we came back to pick him up it looked like he was sitting in his Kennel full of pee for the 10 days he was there. When we got him home I let him in the backyard to go pee before we bathed him and he ran strait to the food bowl and water bowl. So I have no idea how much they even fed him or walked him when he was there. I just couldn't believe it. My dog is kennel trained when it is time to go to sleep, he doesn't even want to get close to his kennel now. The main vet was very nice so I don't know if it was him or just his staff that neglected my dog; but I just wanted to make sure you know what happened to my dog before deciding to go to this place, where you have to leave your pet overnight for a day for few days... I have taken all of my dogs and my cat here. My children have also taken all 3 of their dogs and their ferret to Canfel as well. I worked at another vet for 11 years. When they closed, I went to straight to Canfel. I also recommended Canfel to all of my clients and friends, most of which still go there (unless moving further out), even though it is sometimes 10-20 miles further from home. It's called trust, compassion, knowledge, empathy and diagnostics. In my opinion, in that order, the 5 things a vet and their staff needs more than anything else. I too, have been coming here over a decade. I drive 15+ miles (on the WRETCHED 290 freeway, during A.M. rush hour to drop off and P.M rush hour to pick up) just to take all of my fur babies here because I LOVE and TRUST Dr. Wainwright, I love and trust the staff, and most of all because I LOVE MY PETS! I have a 17 (seventeen!!) year old Chihuahua, with kidney disease, I still let them put under anesthesia for dental work. THAT'S TRUST! She is healthy as an ox because I have always complied with all treatments and recommendations by Dr. W! I have taken my pets to Dr. Wainwright for years and have always had great service. However, it wasn't until I found a small, white dog and took him to their office when I realized how much they truly care for animals and their well being. This little dog had an unregistered chip and the staff was very diligent in finding out who the original owner was. Paige called the county and was very patient and persistent until the previous owner was located. Paige was able to contact the former owner and was non -judgmental as she was only interested in finding out as much information as she could on the little lost dog. They even boarded the little lost dog for the evening. Dr. Wainwright and his staff are truly compassionate about pets and makes us feel like we are more than just a "client". This is the worse clinic I have ever been to. First off, the doctor is wellness mostly, good at surgeries, but don't give him a difficult case because he won't get it. I took my dog there and the first day he was there with vomiting, they didn't do any diagnostics (bloodwork, xrays). Yes, I understand some people can't afford to spend too much, but at least offer it. Anyway, long story short, I took him to another clinic because Dr refused to do radiographs (which they are capable of doing). The other Dr diagnosed him with an ailment that can be surgically corrected but he was too far gone to do the surgery by the next available appointment. We had him euthanized at another hospital that actually cared. Second, he's rude to SOME of his clients, especially the ones that hint what to do. Or some just because he doesn't like them. But he is nice to the ones that are women and are attractive ;). Third, he's inappropriate with his staff. There's 3 main girls there (maybe 2 now?), and there will be just 1 in a couple of weeks because of how he treats them. He cusses at them and yells at them in front of clients. He doesn't train them properly just so they will feel like that's the only job they'll be able to get. If you do know what you're doing, he'll make you feel like you don't. He's only nice to the employees who are attractive (only hires females)...and that's only for a little while. Once he knows you won't sleep with him (if you do, it will only delay his disrespectful attitude a few months), he won't be so nice. His pay is not good and neither are his raises. Being a veterinary assistant there is more like being a kennel technician and you don't get any benefits (never going to happen). In conclusion, Canfel Care Animal Hospital is not a good hospital to be at whether you're a client, pet, or employee. Read Less

Read Less

Read Less
