1st time @ Clay Road Animal Clinic and it won't be my last, we had the absolute best experience with Dr. Darrell Smith. He and his Staff put us at ease and made our pets feel safe. I just moved from out of State and the 1st Clinic we went to was Affordable Pet Clinic on N Fry Rd & W Little York Rd, Katy they wanted to charge us almost $400 not including medication for a Neuter, teeth cleaning & Blood tests but couldn't schedule us until after May. Thankfully I looked around and found Dr. Darrell Smith and we ended up paying $250 with the Best service ever. Read Less

Dr Smith is the best vet I've ever had. I typically rescue dogs who are not always healthy and sometimes old. I went to him because I need a good vet close by. Dr. Smith and his staff are the best kept secret in veterinary clinics. Nestled in a charming vintage home between Clay's Restaurant and an auto yard, these people are the real deal when it comes to compassionate and respectful pet care. Dr. Smith listens to our questions and gives thoughtful responses to our many inquiries. He never recommends excessive testing or medicines, something we appreciate. No reason to overmedicate! I'm very particular when choosing a vet for my fur babies. Last year,I've searched and searched on Yelp for the best reviews and came across clay road animal clinic. Yelpers never fail me! This is my family doctor now for my babies! Dr. Smith makes you feel and let's you know that you are under good hands. He is very gentle and actually cares for your pets. I was surprised when he remembered my dogs just after the first visit. He remembered little details about them which made me feel good to know that he cares. He's very easy to talk to, gives information freely and is never in a hurry. My 13 year old cat had pain in his mouth and after reading all the great reviews for this company I decided to take my cat to this facility. They located a lump in his mouth and I was advised it was either feline himotitis or possible cancer. They provided a dose of steroid and a antibiotic. 36 hours later my cat had severe breathing issues due to fluid from the medication filling up his lungs and he very sadly passed away. I then called the clinic and left a voicemail to let them know to cancel the follow up appt due my cat passing away. They never called back with any condolences which I was not shocked as I am sure they knew it was the medication that killed him. I am tremendously dissapointed with all of this as I am sure you know that these animals we own are truly are family. May you all please be cautious and ask the vets a it all possible risks when they provide medication to your animals. Sadly I learned the hard way.. Take care Read Less

Dr. Smith is a wonderful vet and one who gets down to the animals level by actually getting on the floor with them. Our dog, Doc, a Chow mix is not one to be a social butterfly but Dr. Smith was one person that Doc trusted. Dr. Smith has a way to make the pets feel like they are special and we are sure they are to Dr. Smith. His staff is also exceptional. I've been going to Dr. Smith when I adopted my two fur babies and the shelter referred me to him, being in close proximity to my residence. THE. BEST! Very compassionate and knowledgeable. We have since moved and I tried a vet close to my new house, but there's nothing like Dr. Smith and his loving team to treat my babies with such love and care. This is truly a field of passion and Dr. Smith shows it with the care he provides. I make the drive to Dr. Smith because I know I'll get the kindest treatment, and my babies will get treated like family, that's what they are after all. I'm very pleased overall in the passed 4 years, even with the most recent dental my littlest one got, and HIGHLY recommend this veterinarian to all my pet lovers. Plus, his office isn't outrageously priced. Dr. Smith is the best vet I've found in the West Houston area to date! He takes time to explain and he doesn't do unneeded testing. Prices are very reasonable and on top of that he takes the time to address all my pet's issues...(which can be a lot with my 11 year old lab with Diabetes!) I love Dr. Smith! I have a rescued german shepherd that does not play well with others. After being banned from every other pet clinic including Kaaws on 529. I found God sent Dr. Smith. He has been so far the only pet professional who has shown kindness and compassion for my dog. She loves him too. I praise him and his staff every time we go. They are exceptionally caring and great at what they chose to do. We found Clay Road Animal Clinic when we rescued our first dog in 1990 and the clinic was owned by Dr. David Piassoli. We stayed with the practice when Dr. Smith took it over and we can unequivocally and emphatically state that you won't find better care anywhere, or with such reasonable pricing. Dr. Smith and his staff really do care about the animals, and they all take the time to be sure that you understand treatment plans. I love this place and Dr. Smith is great but it needs improvement in two areas: 1) They are hardly ever on time. I waited 45 minutes before we even got to an exam room at our last appointment, and we were on time. I appreciate that Dr. Smith takes the time to meet with patients and address concerns but either schedule less appointments, or call as a courtesy to reschedule. 2) It's actually quite difficult to schedule an appointment. I've called 6 times today at different times trying to set up an appointment and no one has answered the phone. It rings and rings then goes to voicemail. This is not the first time this has happened either. While these two issues are annoying it's sort of a trade off for me as I really enjoy Dr. Smith's manor and their prices are not terribly expensive. Read Less

I've just started to take my dogs there under the recommendation from a friend at work, who said she's been taking her cat there for 19 years and said Dr. Smith has done wonders with her cat. So since we all only want the best for our dogs, I took her advice and went. Best choice in my life!!
