The only issue that I have with this place is the fact that they highly suggested giving my dog an x-ray even though I truly believe they knew that she didn't need it. It seems like they just did it for the money. Turns out the x-ray showed that nothing was wrong. $260 for nothing. But they did also go out of their way to accommodate my dog at the last minute and I do appreciate that. We also left knowing that our dog was okay, which we wasn't sure of before we came. Read Less

My dogs are over due for a visit and I've been dreading going back. I'm so glad I saw the other reviews about Dr. Simpson's bedside manner and seeming "bothered". I thought it was just me! I have taken my pets here about 3-4 times and I always leave feeling uncomfortable and glad it's over. Neither the receptionists nor Dr Simpson seem to have any enthusiasm for pets or customers. I basically feel ignored each time I go. Dr. Simpson does his examinations with NO feedback. I have to ask all of the questions and it feels like I'm pulling teeth to get answers and solutions. I have English Bulldogs and I thought he was bothered that I own genetically manufactured dogs that are over priced, over bred and often riddled with medical problems. We took our 6-8(ish) week puppy here for a check up, she was given a flea shot and a de-wormer. We weren't asked if she could have a flea shot they just took her to the back (usually puppies shouldn't because they're too young) we also weren't told the side effects after they brought her back and said "we gave her a flea shot"... later that night she was having seizures and died. We tried speaking to the doctor about it. He did try and call back once and we were busy and now he won't return phone calls and we were told from receptionist he has "nothing to say". This is BS and the family is extremely sad and disappointed in how we and Ducky were treated from the beginning. I do not recommend ever stepping foot inside this facility. Read Less

I have been deeply pondering if I even wanted to write this review but I strongly believe that if I say nothing then how would people know if this is the right place or not. My Great Dane "King" was 6 going on 7 years old. He was the best dog I have ever had. Correction, King was the best friend that my family has ever had.My first visit to the 1960 Animal Hospital was in 2008 when King was a puppy. I chose this vet because the reviews were great and veterinarian was great as well. I can honestly say I had no problem from 2008-2011.In 2011 I moved to New Orleans, LA for work and had to leave King with my parents in Houston. He became my dad's best friend and kept my dad company and my grandparents company every day. My dad is on a fixed income and did not want to bother me with the vet bills, so he starting taking King to another vet because 1960 Animal Hospital was on the higher end of the prices. We would still take King and my new dogs (when I was in town) to 1960 Animal Hospital for boarding. We started noticing a downward spiral on the boarding for animals there. King seemed to not be as happy to go there. In 2014, I had a friend ask me where to board his dog and I told him 1960 Animal Hospital which he decided kept his dog there when he went out of town. When he picked his Lab up he noticed his dog lost weight, which is normally the case when you board your animals, but his lab also had a cough. Luckily his dog was fine after a few days. My friend call to tell me what happened and I guess I did not want to believe this Vet office has gone down hill. Our Last Visit to this location: I was married on May 05, 2015 in California. My parents and brother boarded King at 1960 Animal Hospital as we have done in the past. King was dropped off on May 2, 2015. On May 7, 2015 my dad received a call from 1960 Animal Hospital saying that King's Stomach had twisted. On May 8th when my brother told me, he said King had tumor in his stomach, stomach twisted, etc... They told my dad they could operate on King but it would cost $5,000.00 and was not guaranteed to work. We made the decision to let King go. Now, take note my father took King to another vet on April 29, 2015 for updated shots and blood work. King was given a clean bill of health and the Vet even told my dad "King is the healthiest Great Dane I have ever seen".I could not make sense out of what my brother and dad were telling me so on Saturday May 9th, I called the Animal Hospital myself. You know as they say a story changes the further it goes down the line. I asked to speak to the Veterinarian but I was given a Vet Tech. I told her that King had a perfect bill of health 3 days before being dropped off. The tech told me his stomach twisted and it happens in big dogs that they could not explain why. I told her I understand it happens if the animal plays right after eating which we know that did not happen. What the Tech told me next is What UPSET me the most. I was told King was vomiting for 2 days before we got a call! 2 DAYS!! At what point was it not clear that we needed to be called so you could check out what was wrong with my dog. Well what is done is done. Me arguing to her was not going to bring my dog back. My wife loved King as much as I did and we agreed to pay the bill for my dad since he was originally my dog and my dad did not need to deal with this since he has heart issues already. I asked the Tech how much it cost for King. I was given a bill for Over $500.00!! I was like what are you charging me for? They CHARGED ME TO BOARD MY DOG THAT DIED IN THEIR POSSESSION! Really!I was frustrated and asked her if the outcome would have been different if they did not wait 2 days to call us after King had been vomiting and of course I did not get an answer. When my dad and brother went to pick up the body the following Monday, May 11th, they were given a different story and was not told about the dog vomiting for 2 days. I cannot prove there was negligence but with so many stories being told it leaves your mind to wonder. We are all still heart broken over the lost of our family member. I am not sure if the ownership has changed at 1960 Animal Hospital or what is going on there but if anyone ask me I will never recommend them again.R.I.P. King! You will always be missed and loved. I hate to write poor reviews, because I know how much more negatively they affect new, potential clients than positive reviews.  With this being said, I can not neglect writing.  I came here because it was close and convenient for an animal who dislikes travel and a small family at home.  I had the appointment which went alright, except that I had to ask for them to look at my animal's teeth. They didn't look at ears, which I think need attention, but I was forgetful and didn't bring up.  The problem was after the visit, the vet and tech went to the back and kept the door open and then proceeded to talk to each other about how poor of a condition my animals grooming habits were.  The door was open.  I'm an adult.  I brought my animal for grooming problems.  I wouldn't ever tolerate a doctor letting me hear them talk about how overweight I was and "nasty", to use the exact words they said, to another employee.  If there is an issue, confronting the patient about it is the way to help the animal, not waiting until you're behind "closed doors" to (from what I took it as) make fun of the animal or owner.  It hurt my feelings, and made me feel bad.  Vets are supposed to help you learn about how to care for your animal's well being, I thought.  Not collect a pay check, perform a 5 minute look over and then make fun of you and your animal.  I'm sorry, but building rapport with the owners is the only way you build business.  I hate to write poorly, because we all have days where we forget our surroundings and that not everyone is in the field in which you work, but I felt so bad I've searched out another vet who can work with me to help my animals be healthier, while supporting the person who cares about them. And he had the techs ring up what it would be and he said no charge for vet visit.  We boarded her during IKE and she was treated very well.

This place is amazing. Their staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and help you when you in need. First time we went after we rescued our dog they waived the fee. next time we went was to get her spayed and now you can't tell she has been. When my dog developed a bump under her eye we went  and saw Dr. Daniel L. Simpson. and he looked at her and said it was a cyst. And he had the techs ring up what it would be and he said no charge for vet visit.  We boarded her during IKE and she was treated very well. Only grieveance I had was i asked for playtime which she didn't get. Read Less
