Amazing experience. Came in after 9 with my dog acting strange. They took her right away for a check of her vitals. My husband and I waited just under an hour, and it was all for not. They told me she looked fine and her vitals were perfect. Didn't even charge me for the check of her. I couldn't be more grateful for their promptness, their kindness, and the obvious care they have for pets and pet owners. Would recommend anyone take their dog here. Read Less

The only reason I’m giving a star is because I can’t give 0. The front desk needs to learn how to talk to their customers. Called to check the status on my pets ashes arriving from being cremated and she literally refused to give me any information and was rude about it. I’ve been waiting longer than they had told me to wait. I needed awnsers and it hurts me to receive that type of sarcasm, tone of voice, and lack of compassion when I simply asked for information regarding the remains of my pet. Her name is HOLLY, and she basically told me to call again when the next shift starts so someone else can deal with it. Words cannot describe the disrespect I experienced. Take your business elsewhere to another place where you and your pet will be treated with respect and compassion. Read Less

We saw Dr. Hudson for our dogs dislocated hip. Her surgery before here at Blue Pearl was unsuccessful so we went to lake olympia who referred us here to Dr. Hudson. So glad they did! After a nightmare experience at Blue pearl, this was a breathe of fresh air. They were patient with us and amazing with our dog. She just had total hip replacement and so far has been doing much better. I feel really assured with Hudson. I would highly recommend him for any procedures and animal care. We can’t thank them enough for their gentle approach and thoroughness! Fingers crossed this continues to be successful! Read Less

Cannot say enough great things about this place.  Took my sweet puppy, Macaroon, to them yesterday night when her eye began to swell from a scratch.  Mary got me prices of all likely procedures as we drove over so I knew pretty much exactly what I would wind up paying.  When we got there, Macaroon was taken back immediately and examined.  Dr. Brantley came and talked to us about the situation and assured us that she would be fine, as well as prescribed some medication to aid with swelling and pain.  She even gave the first doses to Macaroon so we didn't have to.Unfortunately, by 3am, our pup's eye was completely shut.  I called Gulf Coast and Mary got Dr. Brantley's instructions for us within 30 seconds.  We headed back.  This time, when I handed Macaroon to the tech, her tail actually started wagging she was so happy to see him.  They cleaned the eye and got it back open for us and reassured us all was okay.  The second visit was free of charge.  I cannot thank Gulf Coast ER enough for giving my boyfriend and I so much peace and reassurance last night despite the unfortunate circumstances! It's been awhile since I wrote a review, but I would write more than one glowing review for this place if I could. This experience was better than I could have expected from a quality of care and customer experience perspective. My poor baby Alfie cat experienced a urinary blockage which was treated by the book by our family vet (who we also love). He came home to us after catheterization, flushing, overnight monitoring, etc., with instructions to monitor as re-obstruction is relatively common. Well, sure enough, he did on a Saturday afternoon. Our vet recommended we immediately head to Gulf Coast. The facilities are extensive and impressive, clean, and their operations are efficient. Amazing, clear, kind communications from the get-go, from the wonderful admin Tootsie, to our tech Paula, to Dr. Cagle, who treated Alfie for a majority of his stay, to all the other staff we didn't meet but certainly do appreciate. We were told how the process would work, how they would assess him, discussed treatment plan and cost estimate, and given the option to call or visit in-person, 24/7, anytime, as they had to keep him for the duration of the weekend and they have staff in-house the whole time. I cannot tell you how reassured I felt seeing and knowing how he would be treated - with the highest quality care and kindness.Dr. Cagle even went so far as to - unsolicited - take some pictures of our little fur baby and email them to me, along with a brief update. Those small actions of care and humanity take this from being an excellent clinical facility to a one-of-a-kind place for animals and people.I certainly hope nobody HAS to come here, but for those who do, or those who are struggling with where to take their pets in a time of crisis, I cannot imagine recommending any alternative.Thank you again, from Alfie and family! My son's rabbit suffered what we think was a seizure during one stormy night.  The poor thing seized up and we tried our best to get her into the animal hospital as fast as possible.  I understand that to some, animal lives don't seem as important than human lives but why is the emergency clinic in the basement?!  When we arrived we had to buzz someone to be let in (we had called ahead to inform them we were coming) then we had to walk the rabbit down three flights of stairs (after being confused about where exactly their emergency clinic was).  No tech was there to greet us we were just met with empty floors and confusing signs.  This is the first time my son has ever had to do anything like this and I'm sure he felt helpless, we didn't know where to go or where the people who were going to help us were.  Unfortunately my son's rabbit passed away.  This did upset my son a bit and what he told me in the car definitely stuck with me, he just kept thinking that if we were able to get the rabbit there faster we may have been able to save her. The lady at the reception desk was great.  She explained everything to me as best she could and gave me a clear idea of what it will cost.  We were then offered the different options on how we could bury/ cremate the body.  At no cost we were offered a nose and paw print to be picked up when ready. I'm sure this place is great, they have stellar reviews, but they really should rethink their layout (I do understand that this can be difficult) but they could've at least had a tech meet us at the door rather than have us ring a bell to be buzzed in and then try on our own to figure out where the emergency clinic was. My experience with Gulf Coast Animal Emergency Hospital was excellent. My 5 yr old Poodle went into an Addisonian crisis late on a Saturday night. Dr. Cagle and his team saved her life as she was in a state of cardiac arrest upon arrival. I received responsive communication throughout her stay that was warm and extremely relevant to the next step of confirming her diagnosis of Addison's disease. Upon leaving GCV I felt well prepared with immediate next steps to diagnose and manage Addison's with my primary vet. Thank you to Mary for being an amazing support to me and my family over the passing of our dog Rusty.  Because this happened unexpectedly and half of the family was on vacation I had no idea how to handle.  I called several vets in a panic and felt no compassion from any until I called and talked with Mary.  She told me options in the kindest way with complete compassion that I believed which is an amazing quality to have in an employee.  When everyone was back from vacation they were able to go and see Rusty before having him cremated which was something I felt needed to happen and really was a blessing for them to have closure. Mary was there that night too and they felt the same compassion from her as I did.  Even the follow up email from Mary was so thoughtful and sensitive to our feelings. Mary made the most difficult time in our families life less stressful and we cannot Thank her enough. ANY time in the future that I need to visit an Emergency Clinic I will absolutely go here. Internal Medicine is fine but the ER are incompetent and do NOT care about your pet. They can't even get a pets name right, first or last, unless you correct them three times in the course of hours. They make you pay before touching your pet, even if there's a dire emergency, AND if it's close to the end of their shift well... SOL you can wait a few hours to see the regular Vet cause 'we want to go home'. Oh but go ahead and pay double what we quoted you for your pets care even though we haven't touched him yet. Save yourself the money and your pet the quality care, go to an actual vet or another center. This place is anything but an emergency pet clinic. Read Less

Just to be clear. This is a review for two separate parts of the GCVS. The middle floor, the Internal Medicine floor was great. However the downstairs, after hours Emergency Care was awful!!! I arrive around 5:15-5:30am and they take my baby back to start treatment. Then they come in and tell me that they are about to close shift at 8am and do not want to start a new patient so I will have to wait to be transferred upstairs. Then they push me back out into the lobby while my dog who is labeled as critical can barely breathe or stand. They said he could wait another hour and a half. My 3lb teacup yorkie had food the fell on the floor, lodged in his esophagus and he was having trouble breathing. He was coughing, hacking and wheezing. He couldn't stand due to the lack of oxygen and they told me that they didn't want to start a new patient because they want to get off work and go home.... you're a freaking emergency room center! This is an emergency! You're there to take care of animals in severe need! If you worry about hours you shouldn't be an emergency vet! Then they told me it would cost $2500 but it actually cost me $5000!!!!! Thanks for the wrong quote! When I was finally transferred to the 2nd floor internal medicine they rushed my dog to the back to place him on oxygen because it was serious.... in the ER they didn't even try to put him on oxygen and kicked me back out into the lobby where he looked like he was dying to the other people waiting. I am severely upset with their actions and demand some form of action be taken to correct this! I can't believe I has to pay $110 for an emergency room visit just for them to tell me "we want to go home soon so you can wait till 8". When I got upstairs I had to pay a separate office room visit! This place is awful (ER) if I wanted to wait till 8 I wouldn't have shown up at 5:30am!!! I watched them force a German shepherd who cried with every step he took walk upstairs to the 2nd floor when they had two animal beds that rolled right there!!! Animal cruelty and they do not care about your baby!!! Read Less

Thank the Lawd for Gulf Coast Animal Emergency Hospital. My lil chihuahua has a thing for chasing moving vehicles, which resulted in him getting pegged by one. :/ Since it was a Saturday morning - a long holiday weekend by the way - my normal vet was closed. A quick call to the emergency hospital, I rushed him in and they say him immediately. (For those who experience a longer wait time, they give priority to car accidents). I'm lucky that the end results were in our favor and Guapo/Chichi only suffered cuts and bruises - no head injuries or broken bones. But that's not why I think this facility deserves five stars. The staff is outstanding when it comes to reassuring extremely worries parents. I was non-stop tears and they gave me constant updates; and I also witnessed first hand how they deal with other pet owners as well. It's not easy dealing with emotional clients, and I think they do a fantastic job of showing genuine care. The staff also was kind enough to do a followup call days later after my pup was on meds. And the gent on the phone let out a loud sigh of relief when he heard Guapo was getting back to his normal self. Another shot out to staff member Mitzi for reaching out to me to give me an update during the evening while my Guapo had to do an overnight stay. Thankful she assured me he was in good hands. Very impressed with the quality of service at this emergency vet. We brought our dog in at midnight during the week, because she was having trouble breathing and was lethargic. The doctor and vet technician were very respectful and wanted to help any way possible. They took our dog back to give her some oxygen and talked to us about options. We decided because of her health and age (14), it was best to let her go and not suffer anymore. They let us spend as much time as needed with our dog before giving the injections. Please be careful when bringing your fur babies here.  They will rush you through, at a very high cost. Once you are finished there you will get to visit the surgical side of this establishment,  if your pet is needing further treatment or surgery. We learned the hard way.  We were had the unpleasure of dealing with Dr Koontz,  and one thing we did get out of her, besides her family should of taught her how to speak to her elders, is that she has a $250,000 student loan. Yes this is what she told us after the initial sticker shock of the down payment of $3500 was asked of us BEFORE they would consider to continue to investigating what was going to be needed for our Ace and surgeries needed. Of course we were in an extremely emotional state and we went forward on a road to treatment.  I urge you to record EVERYTHING they say VERBALLY,  yes record, bc when it's all said and done,  what they SAY and what they said they told you are 2 completely different stories. These act of rudeness carried throughout this establishment. RIP ACE,  this was a definite learning experience. Read Less

My husband and I were out of state (4 hours away) visiting family for Easter. My aunt and uncle were babysitting our 11 year old boxer. Early in the morning around 3am on Easter Sunday my aunt called to let us know she had rushed our dog to this emergency hospital. Long story short his stomach had flipped but they were able to keep him comfortable until we could drive back into Houston to say goodbye. When we arrived he had just gone into cardiac arrest and we immediately began to sob and insisted he be put to sleep in order to not be in pain any longer. As my husband and I sobbed, signed the papers, and said goodbye to our child, a female vet rushed in and scolded us "THIS IS A HORRIBLE WAY TO DIE!!!!" I will never forget how incredibly horrific this human being acted towards us. Our decision was not made to put our beloved animal in pain for hours on end. I was extremely upset and will never take another one of my animals to this establishment to be accused of being evil practically. When I discussed the situation with my aunt, she assured me this female vet was NOT the vet that had been there when our dog was admitted - it had been a male doctor. For someone to come in, not know the situation, yet be so ugly to 2 people sobbing over the pain and loss of their dog just disgusts me. You can tell that they really care for the animals. It was very expensive, but they explained all of the charges beforehand. The total charges ended up being less than the estimate, which was great. It was worth every penny to me because of the specialized care, and they were able to figure out what was wrong. The only complaint I have is that I did not receive the follow up call(s) as promised while my dog was staying there, and when I called to check on him, I was on hold for a long time or they took awhile to call me back to give me basic information. One of the worst feelings in the world is feeling helpless while your furchild is seriously hurt. GCVS took the best care of my pit bull. He was ran over by a truck after darting out into the street after a squirrel. But being the small tanks that pit bulls tend to be, he was acting normal. Took him for what I thought would just be stitches and it turned out he needed surgery because he had a fracture on his skull. GCVS was able to look at him the same day and although they couldn't operate, they were able to fit him in the following day first thing in the morning. To add further stress, this all happened two days before a trip to Ireland. It kind of worked out that the hospital wanted to board my pup so they could really look after him. Of course, the whole ordeal took a bite out my savings, but I think it was worth it. The doctors were very helpful and I was updated daily on his recovery. Read Less

I can NOT say enough about this place. My dog, Carrie had ingested some rat poison and I was made aware days after. Her symptoms started showing after her condition was severe. I took her in and they took her back immediately. Dr Shotts (Mr) was very sympathetic and although I was barely holding myself together he made sure I understood her condition and treatment. He did not sugar coat anything and made me aware that she might not pull through, but there was a good chance if we chose to treat that she would recover. He created an estimate. I left her overnight. I was allowed to come visit that night as well. The next morning I went to pick her up and the vet in charge of her care was Dr Shotts (Mrs) and she was just as understanding and sympathetic. Carrie ending up needing and extra plasma transfusion that somehow fit intomy original estimate . I see a lot of these reviews are based on people being upset over the prices. This is emergancy care! Life saving care! Around the clock monitoring. Carrie would not be alive today if it wasn't for this place. She still has a road ahead of her, but I would not hesitate to go back if I ever need to. I had just come home from a lovely evening on the day before Thanksgiving when I went to begin my shower. I closed the door quickly and unfortunately my cat decided to jump out at the last second as many do, and the door slammed right into his front leg.I was so worried I hurt him that i immediately went to "Dr. Google" as the GREAT receptionist Mary calls it and read to give it a few minutes before being rash, but Being the owner I am it was unbearable hearing him cry and I decided to look for a 24/7 Emergency Vet. I called the first one and was so lucky to get this place!Dr. Cagle (I believe the head of the location) and his staff were so kind and helpful in calming me and reassuring me he will be fine from the moment I got downstairs.More importantly they helped his pain. They gave him pain medicine and some to take home and give to him until I can get him to another vet who will do surgery soon.Turns out I had broken his leg and he will need surgery :(The only bad thing to say is that there wasn't much they could accomplish other than provide diagnosis, but I feel that is more because of the severity than anything else.Mary (the receptionist) was amazing and so kind, be sure if you go to thank her! The lady that handled the entry procedure was a lovely lady that obviously loves animals. The vet that was on duty around 10 o'clock October the 22nd is a little closet homosexual more worried about feeling important that understanding he is in the service industry and needs to treat the animals and their owners with respect and understand that he is not the important one in the room. He is a clown and the long haired Hispanic tech is also an arrogant loser. I am not saying in any regard that this is a bad vet clinic but those two inferior humans that I had to deal with should be fired. Again the intake lady was amazing and the first man that met me downstairs was also a caring person.Read Less

My boyfriend's ex-wife called him in hysterics because, an animal they purchased while together was near death, and it needed immediate care. She couldn't afford to pay for the vet visit and wanted to know if we would be willing to help. We called the Gulf Coast Animal Emergency Hospital on a Sunday afternoon, desperate for help, asking if the boyfriend of the ex-wife brought the pet in, could we pay over the phone with a credit card. Not only did they not have an issue with the "broken" family, shared pet scenario, they told us what the costs would be upfront, brought in a specialist to meet them at the clinic, they kept us apprised of the situation and, the vet even took time to talk to us about what had happened, and how to keep the other animals from getting sick. They happily emailed us a receipt, along with a very personal note sending their condolences, (the animal died on the way in), and they were so super nice during the entire process, it really helped my boyfriend make it through this very emotional situation. These days, it is amazing to find that during such an emotional time, there are still people that take the time to care about the feelings of other people. Not to mention the fact they have extremely reasonable fees that everyone can afford. Nothing worse than having a critically ill animal, than to have to take out a loan to pay for it. If you live in the Houston area, I highly recommend Gulf Coast Animal Emergency Hospital. Reasonable rates, caring and loving people. Doesn't get any better than that. Read Less

The people at Gulf Coast were so helpful during our visit! I brought my dog in at 3 AM and they saw her right away. After some initial testing and treatment, they consulted with me on pricing and options for treatment. With my approval, some x-rays were done and she was given some additional medicine. We were sent home with a disc of the x-rays, medication and follow up information for my primary vet. I truly appreciate their help and would definitely recommend for a veterinary emergency! I came home from work tonight and thought my cat had broken her tail--it was swollen at the base, tender to the touch, and had gone limp. Since I live in Montrose and this was around 7PM, the closest 24/7 emergency vet was Sunset Boulevard, which is where I mistakenly took my little girl. After more than an hour of waiting in the cold lobby with my cat howling at me inside her cage (at which point I was told it would take "at least another 30 minutes" before someone saw us), and seeing multiple walk-ins get pushed ahead of me, I called Gulf Coast to find out how long their wait time would be. Answer: zero minutes.I immediately drove the extra few miles, and found a wonderful, caring staff. My cat's tail was fixed in less than half an hour. Turns out it wasn't broken, just a strange abscess that mimicked a broken tail, and they even gave me a CD-R with her X-ray photos in case I needed to follow up with my regular vet.Dr. Cagle specifically is the person I spoke with most, and he seemed very knowledgeable and eager to provide as much information as I wanted (normally a very high threshold). He went over all the relevant price concerns at my request, and was very clear in presenting the treatment options that were available. The prices were very reasonable, for the record.I recommend this clinic to anyone who needs emergency veterinary service past normal business hours. Fast service, friendly service, and smart service. After assessing the situation, I decided I would take her in; better to be safe than sorry.Dr.  Vaughn was incredibly caring and was so informative about the procedures they would do and the care my dog would need after. She answered all the questions I had and then some. They induced vomiting. I was worried about the price, and Dr. Vaughn showed me the prices in an itemized receipt of what everything would cost. I could tell she wasn't trying to run one over on me and tack on costs. Being a college student, I was VERY appreciate about that. I left happy and less worried about my dog then when I walked in. We were able to be there with our dog while she passed away and spent another minute alone with her saying our goodbyes. I would highly recommend this emergency vet. Read Less

Thank you to the male vet that helped explain the situation and options to my aunt and uncle. Read Less

My dogs' primary vet recommended this facilty, after they couldn't figure out what was wrong with my black lab mix. Everyone there was very professional and compassionate. I was really impressed with this animal hospital. I brought my dog in after she was bit in the face by another dog! We were both pretty frazzled but the staff took care of BOTH of us. Mary at the front desk was so nice and really helped to calm me down. They looked pretty busy but they took care of me and my dog like we were the only ones there. When I arrived a staff member immediately took my dog to get her vitals and have the doctor take a look at her while I filled out all of the paperwork. Within a few minutes they had me in an exam room where they asked me a bunch of questions about my dog and then Dr. Cagle came in to talk with me. He was super personable, kind, and very caring. Visiting an emergency hospital can be a scary thing but the staff at Gulf Coast went above and beyond to make me comfortable. I'm so relieved to have them nearby. Read Less

The front desk receptionists and the vet technicians were all very pleasant.Read Less

Read Less
