This place is doing pretty great. It's a quaint little clinic and it's cheaper than PetSmart. The only down side is that it can get ridiculously busy sometimes. I had to wait over an hour just to get a heart worm test and meditation for my pup. I know they're trying, but I think things like this would go better if they would just let you call in ahead of time to actually make an appointment rather than just taking walk-ins. Oh, and I've had one of the front desk women be rather short with me but other than that everything else is fine. It's relatively clean and their boarding is good as well. Read Less

I have had nothing, but trouble here. They just want to make you spend money while thinking that you're getting a deal. You're better off going to the Humane Society. The first time they did not use dissolvable stitches, so I would have had to go back with an office fee to have them removed. I had a friend do it instead. The second they were allegedly having a sale on getting cats fixed. The sale was to cover up that they had increased the price without announcing it in their email or in person. When asked for a breakdown they said that I would have to pay first. Then I brought a dog if picked up that was sick to be put down. They guilt tripped me, but offered no help as individuals or a clinic. I wound up bringing her home and nursing her back to health, but she got sick again a week later. Because it might have been parvo my main vet had me go to get her tested. She was already on the mend and all I needed were antibiotics, the test, and the general fee for a check up. She had already started eating again and was not nauseated. The vet did she was just giving antibiotics, but one shot was for nausea as were some pills. They charged me $100 extra for these unnecessary treatments. I called to return them and they said they couldn't do it, but they would be happy to take them as a donation. From now on I'll wait for an appointment or pay extra at another clinic if it's an emergency. The treatment here is ridiculous. Read Less

Dr Shelby and his team are fantastic with our dogs. We have moved north of town over an hour away and tried a new vet near our new home and was very disappointed with the care given and value of service. These guys are great. I bring my small dog (Max) here. The prices are very reasonable compared to other vets, the front desk staff is very helpful, and the veterinarians are very knowledgeable. Also, they don't require appointments for vaccines, you just walk right in. The wait time is usually less that 10-15 minutes. They are also open later during the week and Saturday's making their services available after I get off work. Read Less

Dr. Shelby is been my dogs veterinarian since they were puppies. I was looking for a good vet. Finally I found it. His prices are reasonable but the best is his experience as a vet and he won't make me expend $ if is not necessarily. I recommend this clinic. I been with him for 13 years The age of one of my dogs. Took my then puppy to get neutered about a year and a half ago and the staff and vet were truly remarkable - helpful and caring. I thought my pup had an infection days after the surgery, so the vet had me take him back to get checked. Luckily he didn't have anything, the vet said it was just a reaction to the anesthesia and it would clear up in a few days - it did. I've been using them for about ten years.   They saved my male cat that had blocked urinary track.... without surgery.  Cost around $450   Now, I only feed him the prescription UR cat food.   First place I took him to wanted to do surgery, with no guaranties it would help, at a cost of $1500   Glad I took him there for a second opinion.  I've been using them ever since.  They are very reasonably priced.  They can get a little busy at times, and when they do, the parking situation is not good, their parking lot is small.   But, all in all, it's a great place. This is a first class vet clinic even though it's not in the most affluent part of town. My dog had ingested some poison and I had bounced around town looking for someone who would show some compassion to an animal in clear distress. They do not operate an overnight hospital, but they do have an overnight boarding facility. Dr. Gilbert compassionately and efficiently treated my dog  and gave me a great referral to an overnight hospital.  I am not a regular patient of theirs so this was even more impressive. Way more impressive than my "regular" vet, Banfield, that couldn't be bothered with a sick dog. It may not be the most convenient location but the value and compassion is worth the travel time. This was the worst vet experience of my life. My 18 year old cat was suffering from seizures so we took her to the low cost clinic to be put down.The women in the front had the meanest faces I had ever seen and were not sympathetic at all.They wouldnt let me be with her while they did the IV and she was having a nervous breakdown. We paid extra to be in a room with her through the process. They came out and told me if they could sedate her while she was clinging to a technician.My son was so angry he told them if we could be with her in the room, she would be calm.The vet arrogantly told him she knew best and they refused to let us be with her.After 1/2 an hour of anxious waiting on our part they finally came to get us and she looked like she was already dead even though they said she was just heavily sedated.I was like how can she even know we are here. They assured me she knew we were there.She asked if we were ready and injected her. She then listened to her heart and said she was gone.When we put our dog down they allowed us to be with him every step of the way at a local vet.But at this place my cats last moments were that of hostility when I just wanted her to go peacefully in her sleep.I will never go to this place again.When I got home I realized.The reason they said I couldnt go to the back was for insurance reasons.YETWhen it was time to leave they asked if I wanted to go out via the back.I dont understand the logic of that at all!!!!When I called to complain about that policy, the owner was so arrogant. He barely let me talk and insisted he was right in having a policy that the pets owners could not be in the room with them during the IV "for insurance reasons". He had the worse attitude EVER. I hate these people and they deserve to be shut down for what they did. The most UNPROFESSIONAL pieces of crap I have ever met!THEY KILLED MY CAT GIGI IN THE BACKROOM AND NEVER LET ME SAY GOODBYE!These are the most awful despicable excuses for human beings I have ever met.My cat was suffering and my family needed to put her down. We tried other hospitals but they were too expensive and we couldn't afford. Coming was literally the BIGGEST REGRET of my life! They have no refund policy just so they don't have to give your money back when they screw up AND THEY DID SCREW UP!With my dog at a DIFFERENT vet I was allowed to be with him and comfort him through the whole process of him being put down. I begged these people to let me be there with the cat. This stupid woman refused and said they needed to take her in the back first. Then they were complaining that she was fighting them i said just let me go with her. She said no "You're not allowed in the back!" I was furious i said my cat gigi would be calmer if i could just be there with her! I wanted to be with her! Then this stupid woman says they need to sedate her. The lady finally let us in the room. When I walked in there. My cat Gigi was lying on the table. But she was already gone. They gave me a dead cat to say goodbye to... I should've been there to say goodbye I should've been there to comfort her. To this day I'm still broke and hurt and angry and suffering because of that experience.That's not the worst part.Finally the woman said to us "Can you please leave through the back."THE BACK ROOM WHERE SHE WOULDN'T LET ME GO TO BEFORE TO BE WITH MY CAT! Now she wants me in the back room so no other customers would see us crying! THAT TWO FACED PIECE OF CRAP DESERVES TO BE FIRED AND RUINED FOR EVERYTHING SHE DID. FOR EVERYTHING THEY ALL DID. I love coming to Long Drive Dog & Cat Hospital for many reasons. I have used this vet since I was a kid and my parents took our pets there to see Dr. Slatko. Dr. Shelby came there straight out of college and has really done a great job and his staff are all wonderful. Most of the employees have worked there for many years which says to me that they love their jobs and the animals. Also, my most favorite thing is....NO APPOINTMENTS NECESSARY! I moved to Galveston County about 13 years ago and not only are all the vets out here super expensive, but you have to make an appointment which most of the time is days or weeks away. Sometimes you just have to take them when you can. Sure, you might have to wait sometimes, but you have to wait at all the others too, even with an appointment. It is certainly worth driving 30 miles to get proper care for my fur babies. All of the Dr.'s and vet assistants are great and you can tell they love the animals they see. It is also centrally located for those who live in the greater Houston area. Next time you need to take your pet to the Doc, you should try Dr. Shelby and his gang. You won't be disappointed! I had a really great first experience at Long Drive Dog & Cat hospital. I had never boarded my aggressive 6-pound terrier before and I was nervous about how she was going to react to people she had never met before and being boarded for a week while I was away. We were referred by a relative, so nervously I took her in. The first thing I noticed was how at ease the other waiting pets were. Generally upon arrival if the atmosphere is tense my dog picks up on it right away and gets extremely nervous and aggressive. But the atmosphere was very calm and the pets seemed happy! When we got to the counter our information was quickly verified (I made her reservation on the phone some weeks before) and the receptionists were very warm and friendly. My doggy's caretaker came to us and asked a few questions, took her bed and blanket and went inside to set up her kennel with her stuff. She also asked a few questions about my dog's temperament which no doubt would be helpful in her approach to the dog. I was shocked when she held my dog and she didn't snap, growl or bite. It was at that moment that I knew she was in good hands!! I honeymooned worry-free as her caretaker was nice enough to text me photos of my baby in her kennel, playing in the yard, going for her walk, etc. And I was so happy to learn that she was never aggressive or mean to any of the staff or other animals at the hospital during her stay. She was at ease. I highly recommend this place and I will be making Long Drive our exclusive veterinarian for my baby moving forward. Happy healthy puppy happy Momma! I've been very pleased with every visit here. The environment has a happy feel and we are always in and out. Very clean facility. Staff is friendly and professional. I have not gotten a chance to interact with the doctors yet. They don't nickle and dime you. Everything is straight forward and fairly priced. We caught a female feral 'mother cat' who just had kittens and needed to ensure she was 'fixed' in a hurry to ensure she could no longer produce new litters. Long Drive Dog & Cat staff and Doctors were so helpful and responsive to provide "excellent care" and now the mother cat is back out where she is happy with her other cats to relax while we continue to feed them every day! Also, the Doctors and Admin Staff provided excellent follow up once we brought her home to ensure she was recovering with no difficulties. I love this place I have taken my dogs here for 15 years. All the vets are informative and have been good to me and my dogs. I just have one suggestion the front desk staff need to have less personal conversation and pay closer attention to the customer I feel that I am bothering them this group is a bit better than the last one. I have always wanted to address this with Dr.Shelby they are the face of his business and the first point of contact I think that these individuals need to give each person their undivided attention. Love this place for all my animals, 3 dogs and 2 cats. I have seen most of the doctors and the treatments have been spot on with each. They offer advice as well as medications, if necessary. Cost for heart meds is comparable with others. We have had our pets spayed and neutered here as well and received great care. The staff is kind and knowledgeable. Read Less

Awesome place!! This establishment has great doctors and their clinical staff are excellent.  Unfortunately, their front desk (clerical) staff definitely need a little work. As a health care manager, and I do understand that this establishment is a vet hospital, but should hold the same standards of a hospital because our pets ( family members) seek treatment here. As a unit, all staff members should have excellent customer service, and the front desk staff are the first that the public encounters. Having personal conversations and ignoring visitors as they stand there is very unprofessional.  I've visited this place for years and loved it. Although my last two visits were horrible ---relating to the front desk. I've gotten ignored, as well others as I sit and witness this unprofessional act. My most recent visit, I had to pic my dog up after surgery, and had to wait nearly a hour because the front desk staff forgot to call for my pet. I've been taking my own kitties, neighborhood kitties and rescue kitties to Long Drive for over 5 years. They have done everything from check ups, sick cats, surgery, spay. Long Dr Dog & Cat Animal Hospital is Great! Dr. Shelby is a Texas A&M Vet. He is an Excellent Vet and Surgeon. I have known him and used his services for 20 years since he bought the practice. He does so much for Animals, helps many Rescues and Shelter Facilities with their Animal needs. Dr. Shelby is a Great asset to the Animal Community very Compassionate and Truthful. I've been going to this vet office for over 5 years. They have cared for my cat very well. We also have a dog and I can say that they saved my dogs life. The vet cured my dog of heartworms and they took very good care of her. Staff was always very sweet to my dog. We now have a new kitten and we will be taking him there too. Read Less

I don't know what to say... They got rid of my rescue dog's heartworms... But my dog dreads/fears/freaks out coming here. She remembers her treatment I supposed. Affordable place. Front staff is not friendly, the doctor is though. And he answers questions thoroughly once you are in exam room. I have 5 Kittens I am fostering. We had them spayed/neutered there. Your clinic butchered my foster babies. You also allowed my foster babies to become over heated and allowed their temperature to climb as high as 104.8 without even realizing it. When you obviously had to address it, and you told me no charge for that, my thoughts were; Uh yeah. There shouldn't be. Although all I said was thank you. I asked for pain medication for them. You prescribed them each a huge amount seperately and couldn't even find the medication when the time to pick them came. I had to wait 2 hours for you to get ot together. Now their sutures are oozing and they are crying in pain. I had to take them to a different Vet because I do not trust you. I will never endanger the life if any other animal by talking them there to your clinic. Read Less

Dr. Castro is a great vet.  She is kind & caring.  My 16 years old chihuahua has had congestive heart failure for years that was controlled my medication.  On Saturday, my sweet little buddy passed over the rainbow bridge & Dr. Castro was there to help.  She is very compassionate.  I wouldn't use anyone else in my opinion. Best vet ever! I've been to 2 different vets in Pasadena, just as a matter of convenience, and I was never comfortable with the way the vets and staff treated us personally. They weren't very welcoming or understanding. I always felt like we were getting the cold shoulder and being looked down upon. One vet in particular was talking down to us because we were trying to save a stray kitten who was dying and we could no longer afford to go above $1,500 to save her life, We honestly felt pushed into spending that much money to save this kitten. She was rude, mean and made us feel horrible. Looking back we should have gone here. The outcome and experience would have been completely different if we had gone here. We brought our 10 year old baby in last week and he had to be put down. My husband said dr. Shelby and the staff were absolutely wonderful. It was one of the most difficult situations for us and they handled it perfectly. This past weekend I brought in my other two dogs for grooming as well as shots and again everything was perfect. I want to thank whoever worked on my chihuahua Bruno yesterday. He was there for a teeth cleaning. The first two times he had this procedure he came back groggy and didn't want to eat or drink until the following evening. This time when I got him back he was his usual alert self. I was recommended to go here to get my dog groomed didnt get exactly what I asked for but was satisfied and felt it was good for the price. My dog seemed to really like the place and they are making a lot of improvements haven't been to the vet but will check out soon. Read Less

Took my dog in for a simple Heartworm test, and to get trifexis. possibly the least amount of time i've ever spent in a veterinary office, especially one that is this busy. The Vet and Staff are friendly, and they didn't charge me an "office fee" like most vets will. I only had to pay for the test and medicine. I will definitely continue to go here for all of my pet's needs, and definitely recommend to all of my friends with pets. Read Less

We have been taking our cats there for about 10 years now based on a recommendation. This place is so wonderful that we drive all the way from Kemah to go there. Although they are a super busy office, the front desk ladies are WONDEFUL and the doctors even better! They do not charge outrageous fees and they really care about the animals. Love Dr. Castro and Dr. Badeau! Ive been going to this clinic for several years now. For the longest time my senior Pomeranian was loosing hair and most doctors just told us it was allergies....only wanting to give her steroid injections weekly. Finally tried this place out and Dr. Castro took her time and really thought about everything i told her....she finally figured out that my dogs THYROID level was less than .05!! Almost non existent!! Thank god she tested her thyroid and figured out what was wrong. It only took several years for us to get a true answer! The front desk  already knows me the second i walk in...me and my two crazy boxers. I love my fur babies to death so I bring them anytime something pops up....but the staff never makes me feel like im bothering them or that im crazy for always coming in! My mom and I have taken approximately ten cats to this clinic to be treated. Seven cats were our own for spaying/neutering and rabies shots.I've never had problems here. Prices are very reasonable compared to other clinics across Houston. I can get my cats neutered/spayed here for less than $90 with a rabies shot. The staff is nice and informative, but slow at times. They definitely know what they're doing. I just wish they'd pick up the pace. I noticed they prefer dogs over cats. Maybe it's because dogs are more interactive than the cats I bring in carriers.Dr. Castro is great! She's understanding and passionate about caring for cats. She's given my mom great advice on preventative care and alternatives to treating our pets.Overall I would definitely recommend this place and I'll definitely take my future cats here. Read Less

Great walk-in clinic, with very friendly and informative staff. They let me know exactly what my dog needed and was knowledgable about preventative care as well. There was a bit of a wait when I got there (on a Wednesday around noon) but was empty when I left, so I will go later in the day next time. Read Less
