I had to give 1 star simply because I could not give negative 5 or even 0! This place does NOT care about the animals only the ridiculous amounts of money they charge. Still trying to recover after their recent incident. New Vets are engaging, operations are efficient except they do not have all the required equipment as before. Wanted to send me to another clinic for an x-ray which meant establishing myself as a new client in an office I probably would never visit again and was not even close to my home. Simple review here: new to the area, don't yet have a trusted vet, but live a few blocks away. My beloved dog very suddenly collapsed while playing, couldn't move his back legs and his breathing had become very labored. I recalled driving by this vet office so I grabbed my keys and raced my dog over. It was 5 min before closing; which is unfortunate, but I was concerned my dog was dying and so thankful I recalled a vet office so close to home. Upon entering and explaining the situation, with my dog laying in my arms, front desk staff asked another staff member if the doctor was still in. Reply: "yes but she's about to leave." I asked: "can she not just come out and give an opinion, very quickly, on whether my dog is having a real emergency here, please??" Reply: "no sir she's about to leave."  So let's break this down: distressed pet, in a potential life threatening situation and is having a difficultly breathing, not to mention a new (potential) client ($$) sitting in your lobby before your office is closed for the day.. and you can't be bothered because you're "*about* to leave." Sounds like a super compassionate spot. Obviously, though it's only a few blocks away, this will not be our veterinarian office of choice. Read Less

THANK YOU! My cat has chronic urinary tract problems, which will always require prescription food and I was recently bullied in Dallas by a vet who would not write a prescription for an outside source of the food my cat needs. Montrose Vet Clinic not only happily wrote me a long term prescription for my cat with just a basic visit, but they also helped me by letting me pay over the phone for services since my kitty was only on a layover in Houston with my sister when he ran out of food. It almost makes me wish I lived back in Houston so that I could continue getting such excellent animal care. Thanks a million! Thanks for putting the animals first!! (PS, it's been almost 7 months since this happened and I still feel this grateful. They were straight up amazing!) Read Less

Never once were my dogs or myself treated or greeted with enthusiastic customer care.  It's like the staff never appreciated us being there, I felt I was always bothering the front staff whenever I arrived for our appointments.  After 3 years I am finally respecting my dogs enough to take them out of this clinic's "care".  Not only are the front staff rude and condescending they have zero customer service skills.  When asked why phone messages were not returned "our phones were acting up" was an excuse I heard at least 3 times in 3 years.  Not to mention the over inflated prices are ridiculous.  $619 for a "wellness" visit....it would have been lots more had I not stopped this vet (you know the one who plotted to commit murder before she committed suicide) from continuing to push and over-sell their services to my very healthy dogs.  Run, do not walk, away from this unprofessional, tainted, unfriendly Veterinary clinic.  There are many well established vets in the same area....I've called a few and have thus far been treated with 100% more respect. I really wanted to like them because I really loved Dr. King but after three years I finally had to move my dogs. Other than inflated prices, their customer service wasn't that great. One time I showed up first thing in the morning for a vet-tech appoint, which takes fifteen minutes at most and sometimes the dog doesn't even go back to a room, and waited 45 minutes for a 5 minute appointment. The final straw for switching clinics was I had a minor emergency that didn't warrant going to a emergency clinic but my dogs needed to be seen the same day I called and they couldn't fit me in until several days later nor did they even try. I wouldn't say that you should avoid them but I would be aware that prices here tend to be higher and you can find better customer service elsewhere. Read Less

I took my Shiz Tsu, Loui, to this clinic. We saw Dr. McDaniels and she was fine when we finally saw her.  We had an initial appointment and had to wait over an hour to see the doctor. They offered no explanation and I was the only client sitting in the waiting room.  I thought it was a one off, so I took my dog back for boarding with a scheduled drop off and all the required shots (more than normal required). They made me wait 30 minutes just to drop her off and 30 minutes to pick her up.  The vet tech was disorganized, hadn't bathed as directed and just "handed" Loui to me with a scowl and turned and walked away. Loui came home traumatized and would not sleep in room bed without crying at night (never happened before), and she looked depressed for almost two weeks, and snapped at me for the first and only time in 6 years. I can't prove it, but I think someone hit her or was very rough with her. She is tiny. She was limping on and off for two weeks as well, and, generally, only injured dogs bite their owners. The front desk is not very organized either with lots of mistakes and a bit distant acting for doggie workers.  Something just wasn't right at that clinic. I just didn't get a good feeling, so we found another vet, not as fancy, but we have been satisfied. Read Less

I adopted my very first pet, Captain Pancake(cat),and took her here for our first check-up. First of all, the first phone call I made to make the appointment made me very comfortable and cared about! I talked to Felicia and she was extremely nice, caring, and helpful.  When I arrived to the appointment, I met Felicia and she was still this happy and caring person and made me feel like pancake was the prettiest cat in the world haha.  I met with Dr. Ali, and she was very nice and genuinely cared about Pancake. Pancake did have some inflammation in her spay-incision site, so they recommended an antibiotic and pain reliever just to be safe, but they did not push or pressure me into getting these services from them, rather suggested that BARC will do it for free since I recently adopted her from there. This showed me they care more about a pet's health than money. So overall, friendly and caring staff, not pushy, and great doctor. Read Less

Dr. King removed the eye, and my little guy was doing great within a week after the surgery. Dr. King is very caring and did a great job. So glad I let her do the surgery instead of the specialist I consulted at The Gulf Coast Animal Eye Clinic. I have been a customer since 2009 and I am sad to say that I will no longer use Montrose Vet. First of all, let me say that the Veterinarians are great - I have never had a bad experience during checkups. The reason I am leaving is because of how inefficient the clinic is and the untold HOURS I have wasted dropping off and picking up my animals when I have boarded them. My most recent experience is a prime example. I arrived at the clinic on a Friday afternoon to drop off my animals to find out that it was closed for one and a half hours for a staff meeting - IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY!! THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY!!! I was going out of town and of course this delayed my entire trip. When I went to pick up the animals, the checkout process was fine but it took 30 MINUTES for someone to bring my dogs out from the back - after I asked twice - 30 MINUTES!! This is the longest I have ever had to wait but it is not unusual for me to wait 15 - 20 minutes to get the dogs taken to the back or brought back up front to me. Really, what is going on back there that necessitates a customer to wait that long?!? To top off my most recent 30 minute waste of time, they did not give my animals the 2nd dose of a vaccine that requires two doses in order for the animals to be compliant and I specifically asked if it would be done while they were boarded. This really burned me up once I reviewed the emailed invoice when I got home. I now have to either let the first dose lapse and start again with my new vet or risk untold hours lost by going back to Montrose to complete the regimen. Thanks, Montrose. Oh, and you also did not bathe the dogs as I had asked when they were dropped off. I don't have the time or energy to deal with this mega-inefficient operation. Hire someone, fire someone. Do something. I will miss the vets but will be better served elsewhere. Read Less

I went to this office for about 7 years for dog and cat pet care. the doctor turnover rate is so high that we rarely saw the same one twice. they are twice as expensive as other vets in the neighborhood. i knew this and continued to go there because the location is convenient, they offer boarding, and i thought they were doing a decent job.then, they killed my dog. i boarded him for a weekend because we were supposed to go out of town. our trip got cancelled, but i couldn't pick up my dog on saturday, so i just waited until monday to get him. i got a call monday morning that my dog was unresponsive. he was actually in a diabetic coma. basically, he had been throwing up since saturday, and nobody called me, nobody treated him, and he became dehydrated to the point of going into a coma. the worst part is that i was right down the street, since my trip was cancelled. i was very angry and spoke/emailed with the director several times. these people didn't want to take responsibility at all...they barely apologized, and basically put the blame on one vet (it wasn't even her fault, it was the fault of the staff). we rushed my dog to gulf coast vet hospital and dropped $11,000 to try to save his life, but of course it was too late. montrose vet clinic didn't even refund me for the boarding fee i paid. i probably could have sued over such blatant neglect but didn't have the energy after being so heartbroken about my dog. I love this clinic. The front desk is ready to help, and I've been able to book an appointment same day if necessary. They emailed my dog's records to our daycare place as soon as I requested. It's a fairly calm and quiet waiting room. I'm a bit of a worrier, and I've brought my pup in here multiple times for checkups, and other issues I couldn't figure out on my own. That's where Dr. Mayne comes in. She's calm and sweet while she examines my dog, and explains what she's checking. She does any tests she thinks he needs, and runs through all the details with me before she does them. Every time I get my dog in with Dr. Mayne, I'm immediately at ease, because I know she will go the extra mile to make sure he's in his best health. I'm always relieved if the issue is smaller than I thought it was, but I feel confident that he's been thoroughly checked.I'd recommend Dr. Mayne and this clinic to anyone who needs any animal (even exotics!) cared for. I started my review & after what became a novel realized no one would read the entire thing so decided to give the details people actually care about. This is my POV & hope & encourage you to try Montrose to write your own! Location - very accessible. Extremely clean facility with a cheery & welcoming feeling.Staff - receptionists were respectful & courteous & very helpful. Didn't feel like I was "bothering" them by being there as have at other clinics. As far as vet - have only seen Dr. Mayne on our 2 visits & will say we have found our vet! You can tell she loves her job & treated our Mimi as if she was her own. Her bedside manner & attention to our concerns was amazing. She followed up several times after surgery & felt we could call her with any questions after & she would be right there for us. She also volunteers at a non-profit in her spare time - how many Drs do that anymore!Pricing - rarely have had need for any services other than routine vaccinations which generally get at low cost options so my ability to compare prices is minimal. However for the surgery we required & care we received I feel our fee was very fair. I would recommend Montrose to anyone I know needing care for their pets. We had a great experience with a surgery we hadn't anticipated but are thankful we chose Montrose & now have Dr. Mayne as our vet!! Read Less

I only needed the heartworm pill & couldn't afford a full consult. We saw Dr King who was very knowledgeable, professional & great with Henry. She explained that Henry had a flea allergy & that that is why even tho I may not see any fleas or only find 1 or 2 in his bathwater, because of his allergies 1 bite can cause him to break out in an all over rash. She recommended antibiotics, gave us 3 months worth of Trifexis heartworm/flea pills & non-soap shampoo. Henry is better & we are both happier! I will definitely go back to this clinic!Read Less

Great vets - high quality care - you get what you pay for. I worked as a vet tech many years ago, so I know how clinics are run and what to look for. Prices at MVC are slightly higher than market price, but so is the quality of service. I have been taking my dogs here for 6 years now. Dr. McDaniel is the clinic owner, and she is a true dog lover and by far my favorite vet at this clinic. She has great bedside manner with the pets and has been able to almost instantly diagnose any issue we brought to her. Other, younger vets seem to cycle through the clinic on their way out of vet school and eventually into their own practices - but all have been helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. We have gone through many of the ups and downs associated with dog ownership, including spaying, vaccinations, unexpected pregnancy in a rescue, urinary incontinence, benign tumors, and a torn knee ligament - all were treated professionally and correctly the first time. I have never had a problem with rude staff or long wait times in the several years I have gone here (at least 15 visits, incident free). Kind of surprised to hear about that in other reviews. Closest thing to a problem I had was once, during an emergency (mastitis during pregnancy), the tech answering the phone recommended I take the dog to a 24-hour emergency clinic rather than MVC, which seemed kind of dismissive to me. When I expressed my concern about that to Dr. McDaniel later, she told me she would immediately discuss that with the tech and assured me it would never happen again and that MVC can handle emergencies. I am a very happy customer and highly recommend this vet clinic. Read Less

Where to start....The people up front are not very helpful and since you have to go through them, it was pretty difficult to get info on my pet. My cat went in with a laceration to her neck and an upper respiratory infection. They requested to board her over the weekend. I wasn't thrilled but what can you do. When I went to pick her up on Monday (btw they had not called me once for an update after calling and leaving several messages) she looked 10 times worse. Her infection had gotten really bad and I discovered when we got home she was covered in urine and days old feces (she is a long haired cat). Her face and paws were so badly tear stained that her skin had rubbed raw. Which makes me think she was in an intense amount of pain, and they gave her nothing for it. This poor animal had emergency surgery to her neck and was never administered pain medicine. For her laceration they gave me a cream that was 2 years expired and for the infection, some treats that treat feline herpes!?? I don't even know. I took her to a different vet two days later for some simple antibiotics. P.S. We have used this vet for sometime and been unhappy with the results. This was the last straw. Please do not take your animal here!! Read Less

I have been with Montrose Vet Clinic for over a year and while the vets I have seen during this time have been helpful and accommodating to my dogs needs, I cannot say the same for the front office team. If you want anything accomplished by this group you should at least call three times in order for anything to move forward. I have asked to have prescriptions renewed, and sent to a different Walgreens and it took two or three phone calls before any action was completed. I needed my pet's records sent to her daycare facility., I called and was notified it would be done by the end of the day, luckily my pet was a few months out before she was boarded. As it got closer to her board date the facility called me informing me they never received her records. I called Montrose again and they assured me it would happen. Followed up with facility after two days, no word. Finally, after a third attempt, the fax was sent. How difficult it is to help your paying clients get the information they need to the correct source? Is that not part of the duties of an office team? Recently, we spent a decent amount of money to have our dog's DNA sent out for breed determination. The girl at the front desk advised me it would take a few weeks but I would receive an email notification about the results, either directly from the lab or the vet office. After a month of not hearing anything, I called the office and it just so happen they had my dog's results under her file. But nobody thought it was important to forward the results to me until I called to check up on where everything was at this point. How long was that record on their file? I was assured the information would be sent to me or at the very least be notified, apparently the fine print here is that if you want anything answered or resolved, be proactive, because this team does not want to do any work for you. I will be taking my services elsewhere and hopefully to an office staff that cares about their customers and who are extremely professional in their positions. All of the above indicates sub par work ethic and an unmotivated team, who is not invested in their clients or their jobs. They have failed to show me they care about my business, so I will alleviate them of such a burden. Read Less

Don't bring your pet here if it is seriously ill. You'll leave with high bills and not much of a solid care plan if you need to care for your pet at home due to finances. This used to be a great facility with good staff, but it's really gone downhill in recent years. We saw them on a Friday when we got not-terribly-thorough exam and diagnosis--they wouldn't draw blood because she was stressed out and growling (you're trained to care for animals and you can't restrain a stressed/squirmy cat? Seriously?). They sent us home with sensitive stomach food. We wound up at the ER the next day (Saturday) after another night of our cat not eating ($500 for sedation and CBC)--the ER did the best they could and thought she had a GI disease that we might be able to resolve with anti-nausea meds. No dice. Kitty wouldn't eat on Sunday and we were getting more and more worried, though we did get her to eat some baby food and take a little water. Of course we were back at Montrose on Monday where they kept her all day long before they finally sedated her (again) when we were told this would be done at lunchtime so we could get her home mid-afternoon. Called twice (long hold time in which someone else picked up and I had to tell the whole story again) and Dr. Lang still hadn't done the tests by 2pm (I guess taking a long lunch was more important--I understand needing breaks but please follow through on what you tell your customers). Finally this was done around 3:30 and my husband went to pick kitty up--I left work to meet him there, and over the phone they'd told me they'd show us how to give her subQ fluids. My husband was sitting in the waiting room with kitty when I got there. Dr. Lang didn't even come out--the tech had given my husband a half-assed explanation of how to give the fluids and dumped him off in the waiting room with the supplies. I just wasn't willing to leave her there as I'd had one bad boarding experience that I'll explain in a moment. They diagnosed our cat with pancreatitis (another $500). She still hadn't eaten on Tuesday, when luckily a friend pushed me to take her to a wonderful cat only vet who showed us how to give her assisted feeding and the subQ. She's doing better but we decided to hospitalize her there today as she still won't eat enough on her own and she fights us so much with her fluids that we want to make sure she's getting everything she needs. I should have stayed far away from this place after the last time I boarded her a few years back--I returned from a trip to find out they had forgotten to give her the thyroid meds she takes twice a day. I only came back because Dr. McDaniel called me herself and really did go out of her way to try to make up for it, but I really should have steered clear. Being off thyroid meds for a couple of days probably won't hurt a cat, but if this had been a cat that needed insulin they would have had huge problems on their hands. Hence the reason I wasn't willing to hospitalize her at Montrose. I started bringing kitty there for exams and other medical care only (Dr. Ali saw her and I liked her) and hiring a friend to pet sit after that. It's really rather disappointing as I used to trust this place--kitty used to get good care here. It seems the good vets who were there in the past are gone and it's now just a revolving door of inexperienced new graduates who don't really seem to take much pride in their care of the pets. The front desk staff needs some training too--I understand that sometimes there are staffing issues and it's a busy clinic, but communication is severely lacking. Again, don't bring seriously ill pets here. If your pet is young and you need routine care/shots, it may be fine, but if your pet is older and/or has chronic health problems, there are better places in Houston. Also, when I called to get my cat's records sent to me so I could get them to the new vet, I asked that I be put in touch with Dr. McDaniel as I want her to know why I won't bring my cat back there. I've been a loyal customer since 2007, yet I have yet to receive a call back. Read Less

So, I'm going to start out by saying that Montrose Vet Clinic is by no means cheap. Their prices are probably on par with what most non-ghetto and semi-professional clinics would charge; but they're much more than that! All the veterinarians there are extremely friendly and helpful, the nurses are attentive and caring, and they really do a great job. My dog broke her foot while we were out of town. I took her to Montrose Vet Clinic after getting a splint put on her leg at the out of town vet. They didn't try to swindle me to change out the splint, but they helped me get my head around the healing process and gave me the apppropiate medication. After a follow up visit they changed out the splint because of an infection and sent me on my way (it was pretty pricey, about $300). The next day my dog tore up the entire cast; instead of trying to charge me the same amount for the process to be repeated, they only charged me $35 to replace the entire cast. I was pretty impressed. Read Less

I will say, I was a huge fan of this vet about 2 years ago when my cat got really sick all of a sudden and they made it their mission to find out what was wrong. However, since then this place has gone down hill FAST! The service and nursing staff disgust me! They were incredible rude to me and more importantly to my two cats on three occassions! The third time was the final straw. Many people, including myself, see their pets as their children and I was appalled with the way the staff was treating my cat. My cat is a laid-back kitty, but when at the vet and all the smells of other cats/dogs flips out, and I admit is difficult to handle. However, they knew this and said we would be able to see the doctor immediately before this was a problem - I waited 20 mins in the waiting room. Then when in the treatment/checkup room my cat was scared and hissing. The nurse looked at me and said (and I quote), ""what do you want me to do with this thing"". I looked at her and said ""this is your job, put on gloves and continue the checkup"". What is worst is that she handle my cat like it wasn't even a living being and was so cruel and mean towards it. Just because the cat was scared does not give a professional nurse the right to beahve this way, many pets do not like the vet. That was it - I explained this to the doctor and will NEVER go back to this place again. It is really unfortunate how downhill this place went in two years... Read Less

I met with the vet and she made me feel very comfortable and not stupid since this was my first pet. She was very thorough in her explanation of everything. Two weeks later..... My baby woke up with her left eye closed shut, well with me being a 1st timer I freaked out! I called Montrose and they fit me right in, as soon as we arrived we were seen. Again, the vet took the time to fully check her out and made me feel so much better about the situation. It turned out to be a scratched eye ball and pink eye! Have used this vet for the past 7 years-through 9 cats and 2 dogs (two of whom I adopted from the clinic), they've seen it all and never have I received anything but the best treatment. Their parking lot IS bad and while not overtly expensive, they're definitely not the cheapest in town either, but for the best veterinarians and staff in Houston, this is a bargain for animal lovers. Even if it's a minor emergency, you can drop your cat/dog off on the way in and they'll see it during the day (and call you around 1), and if you're adopting a stray, the first examination is free. My experiance there was amazing!! Yes parking isnt the best but we are also in downtown, so expected. The Receptionist were so helpful and they even contacted my old veterinary clinic and had all the information of what my pet needed before I had gotten to my appt. I was blown away to see the amount of clients that were coming in and out, the phones ringing off the wall, and everyone of the staff members smiled and seemed absolutely in control of everything. I was immediately greeted as I walked in. Sitting in the lobby waiting to see the vet, this clinic has several awards posted in the lobby for being the BEST by readers of the local newspaper the Houston Press for several years now. When I got into my appointment, the nurse was soo informative and was nothing but loving to my Tucker, 5 yr old blk lab. I was so impressed by the nurse that I actually thought he was the doctor until he introduced himself. Then, Dr McDaniel came in! I she was sooo intellegent, by far the best vet that i have ever met! Obviously, nobody said any cool thing about him or offered him a cookie... he was nervous and they looked at him as if he was annoying them. Unbelievable! He had to be neutered and -my mistake- I didn't ask how much it was going to cost. They charged $490! In addition, when I went to pick him up after surgery, I had to ask tons of questions about how to care of him during post-surgery since nobody will tell any thing! We're use to being across the street from our vet,who loved our dog and would always run out to give him treats when we walked by.We were in shock our first experience, walked in the door and ten people were behind the desk, and nobody acknowledged us. Finally after getting some-ones attention we sat and filled out paper work, nobody paid any attention to our dog and i am sorry but he is the cutest thing, who wouldn't love him? We got the feeling nobody there liked animals it was very sad. We got him some shots and flea medicine, pretty pricey. When we got home they left a message saying they forgot to charge us for half his shots, and we can pay when we bring him back to have minor surgery. The next few days i got his paperwork in the mail, and not only did they have the wrong color of my dog,but the wrong breed.I work thirteen hour days and really don't have the time to call and tell someone how to do there job. Need-less to say i called and argued with the receptionist because she did not have my dogs breed in the computer system nor could she type it in. Why would we want our dog registered as the wrong breed, and are you kidding me, your a vet,you should have all breeds listed! Then we took him to get minor surgery and ,by this point my clients and i have discussed the bad service they also experienced. Anyhow they said to be at the vet no later than 7:30 am we arrived about 7:15 and the doors were locked, a vet tech walking a dog said you have to wait till 7:30 along with a group of people and there dogs piling up.I was sick to my stomach the entire day i had left my baby there. Went to pick him up anxiously waited for 20 minutes again being ignored. Paid another pricey bill picked up more flea medicine, only to see when i got home it had expired. Called the vet they said it doesn't expire, well don't print it on the box then .Would you just take a chance giving your child expired medicine? Still trying to recover after their recent incident. New Vets are engaging, operations are efficient except they do not have all the required equipment as before.

Read Less

Read Less

The vets are okay but the horrible customer service provided by the front desk staff makes going there and even scheduling an appointment not worth it. It takes forever to schedule an appointment. They constantly put you on hold then come back only to have you repeat everything to another person. Scheduling an appointment should not be difficult.

Read Less

I am a first time pet owner and still learning the swing of things. I havea 3 month old Maltese and she went to Montrose for her first visit. I have 2 dogs and 3 cats, and they all love the Doctors! When you take your animal to the Vet and they don't shake, you know you have got a Winner! I am surprised to read some of the reviews listed. I just recently moved to the houston area and was referred to the Montrose Vet by several people at the local dog park. I agree with the others one stars completely. The front desk and technicians are very unfriendly. I took my dog for the initial visit, which was OK. It was just ""pay and leave us alone!"" I asked some of my colleagues for a new good vet that shows some care since I'm not planning taking him there again. Read Less

We will not go back ever and found a better vet ,trust the bad reviews. Read Less
