Went in for annual shots and heartworm tests. First time that I have gone to a vet and they did no full exam of the dogs. We pointed out what we had noticed that needed attention and that was the only point on the dog that Dr Mares looked at. Parking was minimal. The car waiting line faces east not west like a former person noted. Prices did not seem that great, and this is a big concern as we have three large dogs and live on a limited income. I love the service and the prices of the clinic. The vet techs are super nice and knowledagable. The vets are to the point. The prices are good. Medicine for my dogs is always available for pick up. They treat my dogs very well! I have gone to this vet for over 5 years. The wait is long however I don’t mind since I make sure to not go if I have any other plans. It's a little run down, but without their low cost vet care I wouldn't be able to treat and ultimately save my little Bella. Despite their low prices, the care is wonderful. The doctor is so knowledgeable and the techs so sweet. You can tell they are there because they truly care about the animals. My dog was gravely ill, and had to have emergency surgery. The worst clinic ever. I recently went with my baby girl because she had a variety of suspicious bumps on her breast and the doctor told me it wasn’t anything (she didn’t take a blood test for my baby) and that it would go away in a week. Then gave her rabies shot. Well it’s been a week and my poor fur baby is dead. Since yesterday she died and I took her to a new vet and was told she had cancer. I can’t be without my baby girl. Because they are low cost is usually somewhat crowded there but well worth the wait because it’s affordable for me and the staff is very friendly . I would only ask that if there would be some way that they could put a price chart on common procedures on your website such as teeth cleaning, spay & neutering etc. But next to these procedures you can also state that this may very depending on the size of the dog and the length of procedure but at least put a base rate. If it would be too complicated to post that type of thing maybe they could do something like they did with dosages for certain allergy medications for pets, take pictures of procedure costs and post them like they did that . We love this clinic! We've used them for years now. Yes it's a little rundown, in an awkward area, the parking is challenging & you might have to wait a little sometimes. But Dr Bernadette & her staff are wonderful, Very Caring & Worth It! They have almost all of the services any of the other expensive vets have. Normally my reviews are long and detailed. I'll be short on this one. This place has such great reviews, because they're great. Have used them for YEARS and there has hardly been a time I am not satisfied. God bless them for providing care at affordable prices which benefits pets who might not otherwise receive the care they need. This sorry ass place removed an eye from my cat and didn't tell me they removed a tumor attached to that eye. They forgot to call and LIED and said we had an old number listed when we updated our information. So we come back 9 months later and they barely tell us my cat has a tumor. Guy who opened the gate was rude and allowed people to cut the order. I arrived at 7:15am and waited 45 minutes and was 3rd in order. He allowed 10 people in front bc I parked on the street. I was polite and friendly and he didn't care. Never going back. Found another place on Ella that's the same price. Read Less

When we've gone we get there about 6am to be first in line. Once we're in, we're out within few minutes. They are quick and to the point. Although we went once about 2pm-3ish  spent 2 hours waiting. So if you want to be seen quickly get there early if not don't complain. It's an older place, but I mean for the prices you can't really complain staff is always friendly. I was referred over by a friend, who  avidly comes here with her pet dog. The best part is that it is very low cost and you get exactly what you need for waaaaay less. It is a walk-in only clinic but for the price, it's worth the wait. I brought my cat/ and dog here and they got exactly what they needed and the vet answered all my questions regarding my pets. It was a 35-45 min drive but it was worth it i went to a hospital were i had paid 815 dollars just to do exams nd pain medicine nd check up then they wanted to do xrays that cost 645 more i told them i didnt had the money so we had to leave not worth it at all i came here send me home with pain pills paid 87 dollars and my dog its going back to her old self i really regret going to the hospital but it was late my poor baby need it help it is really small place but great doctors expect to wait more than 45 minutes but honestly i dnt mind as long as they take care of my baby really nice people working there as long as you respect them and the price it's incredible i will be a loyal customer from now on as long as they treat and help my baby like they did Read Less

I've brought all my dogs here when the regular clinics want to charge me an arm and a leg. My experience every time is great. Yes they are small, not fancy, but very efficient, and caring, tells me that their focus is on the animals and not to impress with fancy decorations. I find it funny that someone would blame the clinic for not finding the eye problem, just like your own doctor, don't they ask YOU whats wrong so they know what to focus on? If you were so concerned about the eye, why didn't you point it out to them? But my experience has always been a good one, I have an elderly dog, and they are very patient with her, when I go there I go for a specific reason, I point out to THEM what my concerns are and they have been wonderful. And as many know it costs around $80+ just to walk in to any other clinic, here its $15, and they tell you the cost of of procedures you inquire about as you go along, so maybe you can save lesser issues for another time. There is never any pressure to do things you can't afford. They have a great selection of flea prevention products, you can buy one dose or packages. I have recommended this place to many friends and they have thanked me. The lady that called this place GHETTO, can take her pets somewhere else, but we all don't have money to burn. I'm thrilled at what they do and how they do it, my suggestion would be to make a list of things your concerned about before going to your visit. Read Less

G-H-E-T-T-O!! You get what you pay for. This place stinks, and looks like nobody cleans. I went on a "holiday", day after New Years, and kind of early so I guess that's why the wait wasn't horrible. But when I walked out of the examination room it was packed. I read how the wait is bad. Paid for $15 examination, but yet I had to point out to the DR what I was concerned about. She did NOT examine my dog. Now I'm home and I see something on my dogs eye that I may have to get checked out! Had the DR performed a proper examination, she may have seen it. NEVER going back. NO where to sit when you go into the exam room, and you have to wait another 30-45 min in there. The tech had no help to hold my dog, so I had to help her. This place needs some help! Major help! This place is the lowest cost for pet care in the city. I have always gotten in within an hour of being there and they treat my pups well. None of my pups have any negative reactions to the shots and the price for trifexis can't be beat! Read Less

Is this the best clinic ever? No. Is this place amazing for the cost and care? Absolutely.The clinic is walk-in only, so yes, you will have to wait. They will even tell you that you could be waiting for hours if you ask them. It's not that they're understaffed, but they have a small team of trusted, dedicated workers who do their best to provide the lowest cost for the best care possible.I really commend this clinic for what they do. They try to give their attention to as many patients as possible, and they do their jobs to provide you the low cost you came here for. They really put in a lot of care for your pet(s), too. The people actually are very friendly if you treat them with the same respect and courtesy that you expect back from them. The are always very busy, so forgive them they're on a short fuse. The staff doesn't have time to give you special attention just because you're angry that you have to wait (and you know you have to wait).If you want to complain about the things that aren't up to your standards, go somewhere else and pay for the extra fluff. You can't expect to get a luxury waiting area and extra staff and all the fancy things you find at other clinics if you're paying $15 instead of $55+ for an exam. Read Less

Hands down THE BEST PLACE that you can take your fur baby! My family and I have been taking our babies here for years because the service is consistent and the prices are more than reasonable. You'll end up paying a portion of what you'd expect to pay at other pet clinics. First things first, this place isn't your everyday definition of pretty, it's kinda old and outdated but once you get past that you'll be alright. (And grow up people, it's a PET CLINIC-there are bound to be potty accidents, most of the animals are scared and/or nervous to be there so cut them some slack!) This place definitely isn't a city secret either, if you've ever tried to be an early bird to get there as soon as they open, then you've seen how people line up on the street to be let in. As mentioned, no place in Houston can beat their prices. Some of the standard costs are:*$15 Office Visit*$5 Nail Trim*$30 Heart worm Test*$20-28 for shots (rabies, parvo etc.)Of course, if the vet prescribes your pup some meds then the prices vary, personally, I've paid anywhere from $5-20 for a prescription. They offer many different types of heart worm prevention meds and meds for flea and tick prevention (Frontline, Advantix, Nexguard, Triflexis, Comfortis, etc.) Of course prices vary by pup weight (they do sell single month doses too!) If you just need to get your fur baby a refill of flea/tick prevention you can simply walk in and go to the front counter and they will help you out. If you are needing a refill for Heart worm prevention, then you WILL need to sign in and wait for them to call you, since they've told me they see heart worm prevention as a prescribed medication.They are open from 8a-5p Mon,Tues, Wed, and Friday. They are only open Saturday from 8a-11:30a, and they are Closed Thursdays and Sundays. Getting there when they open can be helpful but it is ALWAYS PACKED. A few words of warning about parking. The main lot, since it's small, has always been full each time I've gone but you can park on the side of Reid St. (it's the street right behind the building) but make sure you park facing the right way and don't block the fire hydrant because cops are ticket friendly in this area, and they will ticket you if you don't park going the right way, and they will tow if you block a fire hydrant or a business drive way. If you ever need to take your animal babies to get checked up, I highly recommend this place. Wait times do vary, sometimes I've been called within 10 minutes of signing in and sometimes I've waited for about an hour. It really depends how busy they are and how serious the case is that they are treating. Worth a shot and the drive if you don't live near the area.**Tip!! I read reviews of this place, I was a little skeptical, but I decided to come in. I went 4/23/16 (saturday) arrived at 7:50 was in line, I had at least 30-40 people ahead of me... I made it inside the building and signed in at 8:20 the place isn't fancy, but it's not dirty. I would give this place 5 stars but the problem was an employee was very disrespectful and rude. He even told someone "if you don't like it here you can leave" I was shocked! Also, prepare to stay all day! I didn't see the vet until 12pm! A wait was expected, but 4hrs was a long time!!!! The price was amazing and the vet was very sweet and gentle. My dog did not cry with the shots, or anything else. I paid $111 which included the check up, vaccines, 2 months of a chewable flea preventative (which worked within 12 hours!!!!) 2 antibiotics, and ear drops! Overall, I say if you have the time, go... My regular vet charges $96 just for a check up and vaccines. I'm pleased with my experience, just the employees should be a little nicer. Read Less

Amazing service ! I took a stray cat that I found last week in today. The wait was about an hour which is pretty good considering its first come first serve and it was a Friday afternoon. The vet tech that assisted me was great with the cat. The cat had mange and eye infection and ear mites. She received antibiotics, fluids, and medicine for all her issues and they even sent me home with meds. I only payed $85 which is great considering I payed $100+ at the corner vet only for them to tell me that the cat had mange and received no medications. Definitely will be coming back. Read Less

When I brought my baby, a'lexis Spencer, to them. She was a new puppy, her eyes weren't even open. She was so tiny, she fit in my hand. And,she wasn't eating. She was about to die, bcuz she was infested with worms. They gave her antibiotics, they gave her shots, and they showed me how to take Care of her. I was taking her to the clinic, at least 4 to5 times a week. For about 3 or4 mths. They dewormed her and saved her life. They also have pills called, trifecta. I think that's the name. But, It keeps the pets from having tape worms, round worms, most important they keep them from getting heart worms. Also, they have a. Home Again warranty, when you get your pet's rabies shots and get them micro chipped, they will sign you up for the program, but you have to renew it, every so often. I paid close to $600 or $700, keeping a'lexis alive. But, when you think about it, it's worth it. Just to see their little faces, and see them running and playing. Whether you know it or not, they are our children. Because they can't feed, bathe or take care of theirselves when they are sick. So, yes North Loop Pet Clinic is great at what they do, and I WOULD recommend them to everybody. Read Less

THE DOCTOR ( I don't know her name ) WAS AWESOME, SHE DIDN'T EVEN CHARGE ME FOR THE ULTRASOUND, SHE WAS VERY NICE, CARING AND COMPASSION, THEY DON'T TRY TO MAKE YOU SPEND MONEY ON TEST AND EXAMS THAT YOUR PET DON'T REALLY NEED, THE MOST AFFORDABLE CLINIC IN HOUSTON, THE MANAGER IS A LITTER BIT RUDE AND THERE IS A TECHNITIAN ( Hispanic girl short , skinny with long black hair ) SHE WAS EXTREMELY RUDE AND SHE EVEN TRY TO PUSH ME TO NOT MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR A SURGERY , SHE TRY TO SCARE ME AND MAKE ME FEEL GUILTY BECAUSE I HAD TO WAIT FOR 2 WEEKS FOR THE NEXT APPOINTMENT AVAILABLE, SHE WAS TRYING TO PRESSURED ME TO TAKE MY DOG TO ANOTHER CLINIC WHEN IT WASN'T AN EMERGENCY, THEY NEEDED TO REMOVE STONES FROM THE BLADDER, WICH IT COST A FORTUNE IN ANOTHER PLACE, BESIDES THIS PERSON THE WAITING IS WORTH IT. It's only 4 stars because of the wait time, but it's to be expected when the prices are that great! When staff does get to you, you have to keep in mind that there is an incredibly crowded room and that they are just trying to go as fast as they can. Go on a day you have nothing planned. Prices reasonable .. And that's were it ends.  They don't take appts .. I had to wait 3 hrs in a crowded dirty waiting room with dirty dogs and mostly dirty folks who didn't speak English.A couple of puppies shit on the floor .. Took for ever to get somebody to clean it up all while various dogs stepped in it and spread it over the whole waiting room .. A staff member announced that there were tape worms in the stool, loud enough for everybody to hear, while another showed up not with disinfectant but a regular mob and smeared it further .. A classic comedy skit .. The monkeys running the zoo!My dog was there because this clinic was recommended as the best to fix my CORSO s cherry eye .. The staff nor doctor gave a shit about the dog .. Nobody recognized my dog as the patient .. Nobody touched or petted the dog.  Somebody, presumably the vet, stepped into the dirty shit hole were my dog and I were waiting for examination .. She didn't introduce herself .. Spent 15 secs explaining the procedure, turned and walked out.  I felt I was sitting in a busy bus depot.On the day the surgery was planned I again had to sign in and wait .. They didnt have the surgery scheduled and claimed it was on another day.  Staff extremely rude .. Male receptionist looked like a member of a motorcycle gang.  I felt if I complaint I would get beat up.  I asked for my money back .. The gave me half back without any apologies or attempt to make it right .. I asked to speak to the vet, she refused, she sent the message that she was too busy.Have never been to such a bad vet before .. I normally get along with everybody .. After reading reviews on Yelp, I drove to this place to have my puppy's first round of puppy shots. I was more than pleased. It is a walk-in clinic, no appointments, so I was expecting a wait. I was called within 10 minutes of arriving. The place is casual and relaxed. The people working there were professional, and genuinely friendly. The price for the shots was at least half what you'd pay elsewhere.  It was a good, very good experience. I have found my new animal clinic! Read Less

After looking for her owner for two weeks, we decided to adopt a lost dog that we found wandering in traffic. After reading all the wonderful reviews of this clinic, we decided to take our newest family addition to be evaluated and given all of her shots. The great reviews are spot on! The wait can be long but it is definitely worth it. The prices are much, much less than other clinics that we have been to. Plus all the folks here are so wonderful, caring and treat your pets like they were their own. Although I did not wait as long as other reviewers to be seen, I had several wonderful conversations with fellow pet owners. I arrived at 7:40 am, twenty minutes before the clinic opened, and I was fifth in line. All of the cars line up outside the gate in a line to the west on the street behind the clinic. At five 'til eight o'clock someone comes to unlock the gate and you go in and sign up to be seen. Very efficient. By the time I was ready to leave every chair in the waiting area was taken and it was standing room only. Definitely come early if you can. Read Less

I bought 3 Comfortis pills on March 5th and gave them to my dogs that same day. Today is the 28th, 23 days later and my dogs have been itching fleas for at least 5 days. My aunt bought a Comfortis pill for her dog and had to buy a new one two weeks later. They all worked at first and then wore off. Has anyone else had this problem? I went to this clinic for the first time on Tuesday 03/20/2012. My baby (Coral - 11year old cat) was not able to jump as high as she used to (It seemed to happen all of a sudden). She seems find otherwise - eating and walking - all OK. I wanted to have her Xrayed to make sure she did not have cancer or anything wrong on the inside. The Receptionist, the technicians, and the Vet were all very nice and gentle with both me and Coral. I would HIGHLY recommend this clinic. .....You might have to wait for an hour or two to get in but it's worth the time. Take 1/2 day off from work or whatever you need to do. Due to Hurricane Ike we had to go stay in Conroe at the motel 6 where my 3/4 month old puppy caught Parvo. In a panic I started calling around to local vets all of which wanted at the very least $1000 dollars up front just to take him in and it would go from their price wise. Knowing my baby sweet Chiwawa's (that?s his name) only hope was The North Loop Vet Clinic we loaded up and made the drive... Once we got their he was put on an IV right away and spent almost 3 weeks in doggy intensive care. We drove all the way from Conroe every day to check on him and he was always well taken care of when we showed up. They saved his life! If it wasn't for their affordable rates I would have never been able to do that... All and all the total cost of his treatment with follow up, shots and flea drops came to $600 dollars which was at least $1500 dollars less than any other vet. After adopting my puppy, I had to find a place to take him because he was getting over a cold. I'd been to this clinic before, but quite a few years back. I decided to return because of the lower prices, not knowing whether he would need more medicine. Albeit it's not in a great location, nor does it look amazing, but the people there are friendly. The techs there do a lot of the work, probably why the costs are lower, but they do care about the animals. You can just walk in, sign in and wait to be called. You can strike up a conversation with other people that are waiting. It's really easy and simple to go, and not intimidating. Great little gem! Read Less

I found this place in 2006 when a friend referred us to them. We used to take my dog to Banfield, the PetSmart clinic. My dog got really sick and they were asking for an $800 up front fee, that only covered the initial check up and the boarding fee. We took him to North Loop Pet Clinic, paid $35, and he was running around as usual the next day. The physical location and appearance of the place are definitely not the best. It's kind of a shabby looking building that is pretty hard to miss, but the care is wonderful and the price is great. The staff knows exactly what they're doing and they work efficiently to get you in and out as soon as possible with your pet on its way to recovery. They truly care about your pet and will do what they can to help you while providing the best price possible. The wait is sometimes long depending on what day you go, so my suggestion is to go during the weekdays if it's just a regular check up/vaccinations (call before to see if they are open because I know they are closed one day a week other than Sunday). I've recommended this place to everyone who is seeking medical attention for their pet and have yet to disappoint anyone. This place is great! Read Less

My dog aquired heartworms after I gave him counterfeit meds I had bought online. I researched heartworms for 18 straight hours. So when I went to this clinic I knew exactly what treatment plan I wanted the vet to follow. She had her own protocol which was more exacting than the one I had planned out. They were half the price of the other vets I had called. The techs were very good at their jobs and quick. Don't go on a Friday Sat or Monday. The parking lot is very inadequate. Overall they did a great job. The vet keeps current with the technology. Yes, there are many Hispanics. Some don't speak English. But I always have great conversations while I'm there and I've gotten 2 great recipes for Mexican food. This is not an emergency clinic. It's first come first serve. The best ER is on the West Loop. I took my 17 year dog there because she was breathing very loud , first thing the vet said was to but her to sleep she was to old thats why she was breathing that way!!! my dog lived 2 more years after that visit . yeap like I said it's cheap. same day I took my cat for shots and they didnt even exam her just gave her the shots ... not a good place to take your pets and very dirty. parking is so bad too!! People, Please! If your pet is bleeding from ANY orifice or too weak to walk in on it's own, if you want to save them, TAKE THEM SOMEWHERE ELSE. There is no Triage. No Appointments. First Come is First Served. A woman's dog died in her arms waiting over 3 hrs while I was there. If she had been behind me I would have gladly allowed her my spot and I think every one of us in that room would have. We could only watch in horror and empathy. That being said if your pet can wait it is well and truly worth it. The worst time to come is the first week of the month as this is a place where we all have too much month left at the end of the money. I came in on the 1st friday of the month, signed in @ 10:55 am did not get seen untill 2:20 pm. That being said, the clients in the waiting room were of ALL colors and, united by our love of our pets, friendly, chatty, with great attitudes and a rueful understanding of ""THE JOB RULE"": There are only three (3) kinds, GOOD, CHEAP & QUICK. You can HAVE only two (2) kinds. A Quick & Good job won't be Cheap, A Cheap & Quick job won't be Good, and A Good & Cheap job won't be quick! Dr Mares was kind and gentle, took the time necessary to NOT make me feel like she had to move on to the next client, answering all my questions, comforting my pet. So If you have the time, go! I've been bringing my pets here forever. The place looks kinda run down, but the service is great and the vet knows what she's doing. When I moved, I took my cat to a different clinic and paid over $200 just for an exam, vaccines, and flea medicine. At North Loop, the same services would've been less than $50. Even when the place is packed (which it usually is) the wait is hardly ever that long and your pet still gets the attention it needs. Read Less
