Rice Village Animal Hospital

Houston, Texas
General Info
Rice Village Animal Hospital delivers veterinary care to Houston and nearby Texas regions through its behavior-as-dialogue visit structure which synchronizes animal comfort with family input and clinical procedures in real time. Examinations initiate through attentive observation rather than physical contact. Staff members scrutinize tiny animal actions: eye contact initiation, breathing patterns upon hearing voices, and movements toward or away from motion stimuli. Care then unfolds in parts. The examination of a pet's skin coat and joints relies on its anchoring leaning or stiffening movements. The appearance of trust signals initiates complex internal examinations involving teeth abdomen and heart rhythm. Owners deliver contextual information about shifts in daily patterns alongside new sounds that trigger pet reactions and alterations in walking or feeding routines. Rice Village Animal Hospital provides a range of services including early-life exams and diagnostics as well as energy balance strategies, oral health planning, age-related joint tracking and illness-specific mapping. Behavioral patterns dictate diverse temporal measurements. A number of appointments progress rapidly due to distinct consent signals that emerge. Certain animals experience extended phases of development which allow them to process each step at a slow pace. Pets can access quiet areas and pause zones to recalibrate before resuming their activities. The focus of post-visit care involves translating household practices. Examine sleep patterns, establish routines anew, and detect silent signals such as familial withdrawal, appetite reduction, or spatial defense behaviors. Owners should focus on recording timing instead of just symptoms. At what time does restlessness appear? At which daily period do hesitation levels reach their maximum? Rice Village Animal Hospital provides guidance to families in Houston and nearby Texas regions by recognizing pet behavior as a vital communication tool which animals present through every daily pause, nudge, and shift rather than in moments of crisis.

THIS PLACE IS AWFUL. Do NOT come here if you're a new pet owner, do your research on the internet or with a different vetenarian first--- this practice is not being run in a fair way and the prices they charge are borderline offensive to anyone who knows anything about the sector. If your animal is healthy-- DO NOT COME HERE. If your animal is NOT healthy, I suggest you compare the vets nearby to this one and the treatment plans they recommend--you'll quickly find Rice Village Anim Hospital is charging 100-250% more than your typical vet. You'll find that other veternarians talk to you longer during your appointment and constantly check your understanding; they'll answer your questions more thoroughly and honestly-- a real vet is not looking to rush you out the door because you paid your $70 for the visitation fee. For example, one appointment lasted 4 total minutes with the veternarian, about 15 minutes waiting and the tech walking around the room... If you come into your appointment with knowledge about the answers to your 'questions' you will see what I mean. Simply ask a few questions you know the answer to and see if the vet or staff here answer it honestly. Do they skate around the question and beat around the bush to get you to spend more? Yep... Other animal clinics would let you talk to the veterinarian on the phone for a very reasonable five minutes if you'd just come in for an expensive visit and had a question without paying extra (are you joking me rice village animal hospital?). I suppose I expected that from the West U wealthy area 's vet where you can tell an 65 year old lady and her cat whatever you want because she has no knowledge of biology or other options because they don't know any better and see you've solen the Rice name. I have no issue with most of the people who work here, in fact there's one staff member thats mentioned in many reviews on google and yelp (you can figure out who she is)---my issue is with the administrators and manager, namely the lead one who has no idea what she's doing. Many other vets in Houston are great! This is not one of them. I suggest you look on google for other places. Notice how their reviews on Yelp are much lower and in some cases they have been edited. You'll find the owner or hospital administrator reaches out to people ONLY AFTER they've written them a bad review on the internet...and they're scared it may affect future customers. They will treat you like garbage unless they get called out for it. Let me know if you have any questions about the clinic or need a recommendation for a better vet and I'll give you an honest answer. *UPDATED*: The 'owner' or perhaps terrible manager named Adrienne has responded and said that they have no record of me as a client to try and discredit this review that I've written.. So I guess they want to play that game. I will not be coming back to your establishment and giving you a single penny but I assure you I've been there plenty of times and can give an honest opinion. You have separate waiting areas for cats and dogs, dogs on the left side. They have their own overpriced pharmacy they try and get you to buy from--just go to walgreens or your local petsmart instead. This place is untrustworthy--I'll definitely be letting any of my friends getting a pet know this as well--it's not a good way to start a lifelong journey with your animal being tied to this terribly run business. To be honest why in the world would I write a review this lengthy and long if it were a made up story? This is a terribly managed business with an awful head administrator lady. It's not something I would waste my time to write a review on unless it's something i felt honestly. I've certainly visited your 'clinic' many times and it was an experience i felt the need to tell other Houstonians about--you guys don't belong in this wonderful city scamming the wealthy people in the area by stealing the rice village name. Disgusting clinic management who spreads misinformation for money--they should be ashamed of the way they make money. Read Less

We moved to Houston 10 years ago and RVAH has been like family to us. They’ve been with us through a pets death (our first) and I wouldn’t have wanted to be anywhere else. Brandi walked us through the process and while it was one of the saddest days of my life, she and the staff (Dr. Kuo) were so very kind and compassionate. We’ve always been treated like much more than just customers and the fact that another job offer has left us sad about leaving our “family” behind, we’ve never not had top notch care. Dr. Kuo follows up with test results and the staff calls to check up after a day or two of a visit. Please go in for a visit and see for yourself. Working in the medical field myself, it’s always a given that the people who answer the phones are the first ones who give the first impression. You will get a friendly voice who will go above and beyond to help you. Be it Karen, Libby, Brandi, etc (please forgive me the people I forgot) You can’t teach compassion. You either have it or you don’t. My friends here truly love their job and it shows. Thank you for 10 wonderful years! Theron, Marla, Dave & Jack Read Less

"PUSHY", "RUDE" , "IRRESPONSIBLE, RECKLESS" are some words I see used here...they're 100% CORRECT. I've never written a negative review on the internet in my life for a business until now because it didn't seem worth it.Ask yourself why there are so many reviews here that have been modified (some claim the negative ones have been removed as well)--the management here had to "reach out" to their unhappy customers just to salvage their Yelp star (numerous examples in history back to 2016). Do you want that kind of service where they procrastinate until something starts to affect them like an online review? You can always read the initial review before the vet decided to reach out weeks after they realize they've done someone wrong and it's available for all to see on the internet. This shows a clear lack of respect for the customer and their procrastinatory habits. They're probably helped by the fact their older clientele has no idea how to post a review or read one. Then, ask yourself why this place doesn't have 4.5 stars or more like every other reputable veterinarian in houston (yelp is pretty biased after all). Ask yourself why this vet is located in the wealthy West U Rice Village area. The reason is they treat you like a bag of money--the older you are the more they'll take advantage of you. Walking into this place, i noticed a lot of older clients sitting and waiting for their pets to be looked at. We care deeply about our pets and unfortunately this establishment is taking advantage of that fact--especially if you are uneducated about veterinarians, biology, or the work that is going on beyond the waiting room. The management has the Donald Trump "my way or the highway" type of perspective that's highlighted in many reviews here beyond my own.Compare the costs of this around Houston and you'll quickly find this hospital is overcharging all of their clients (most of which I suspect are older and have no idea what they are paying for, they just live in the West U area and have a lot of money). Even compared to another vet who marks up their medicine (understandable) they are still 200-250% higher for some reason (same amount/concentration). For example, there's not much reason for you to buy heartgard plus from them. None at all except that they make a huge profit selling you the most expensive thing possible. Here's an example: Your dog weighs 48 pounds, but Rice Village Animal Hospital will recommend Heartgard plus for the 50-100 pound dog range (costs more). In the real world, you could even break this version in half for your dog--why else would the weight range cover a body of 100 pounds? At an honest vet, they would sell you the 20-50 pound dog version of Heartgard or tell you of alternative generic options that are much cheaper. If you play dumb on your initial visit (as a longtime pet owner) you will know what I'm talking about--they try and take advantage of you at every step. For example, generic drugs work just as well as their high priced pharmaceutical counterparts yet this vet constantly skates around the idea (i asked them point blank or ask for a prescription be written so I can go elsewhere to buy it, but was given a wishy washy answer as to whether or not they can do this). You have to ask many times or voice frustration to get simple answers you'd find on google (all in the name of profits or taking advantage of people who don't know better). Do you want them to board your pet or look after them for you? Check out the incongruent responses from everyone about which shots are required. They'll see how much they can trick you into buying/vaccinating.There was one older lady at the front desk and a male technician that were really great in my experience here and I wish nothing but the best to staff members who are doing their job correctly here. Stay away from Veterinarian Kuo--she wasn't rude or anything --but clearly just wants you out of the exam/visit now that your appointment has been made and payment is assured. Smiling through her teeth hoping you don't find out what a generic drug is or that you can ask for and take your prescription for many meds to your local (human) pharmacy for half the price. There's a joke on your receipt to contact the hospital's administrator (Adrien, I think, as I've tried to erase her from my memory) if you're unhappy. She's beyond rude and will talk down to you passive aggressively. I've never experienced someone quite like this in 30 years...I wish I had never read any of the good reviews because it's clear the the staff has changed drastically (or been forced to change) over the years (you'll notice this if you read old reviews). Avoid at all costs. As of August 2017, this place is pretty damn terrible. I've never written a negative review online but--Rice Village Animal Hospital is quite the catalyst--maybe this review can save someone else a bad experience before their management contacts yelp to get my review taken down or modified. We have tried several vets in Houston and never had the welcome and personal attention as we received at the Rice Village Animal Hospital. It just happened by accident and we are so delighted with it. We were going on a 5 day trip to San Francisco and had planned to leave our GSD fur baby Jasper at our friends who have his older sibling. The night before when we went to drop off Jasper , we were shocked how Jasper was growled at and roughed up by his older sibling. Jasper is about 18 months old and a very sweet dog. We found ourself in a bind and decided to board him for the first time. We checked his current vet and several other places with no luck with 2 hours left to catch our flight. I made a last ditch effort to visit the Rice Village Animal Hospital hoping that they will take him, otherwise I was prepared to cancel my flight. Although they boarded only their own client pets, they made an exception and accepted him. We proceeded with our trip knowing that he will be well cared. Since leaving town we have received a reassuring message from his doctor and a welcoming note from the clinic bout how Jasper was doing. We are so happy to have finally found a caring vet for Jasper. I am sure when we pick him up in 2 days, our trust in the clinic would be reaffirmed. Thanks RVAH. Read Less

Update: They reached out to let me know there was a new staff in place & apologized. Felt very genuine.I brought my puppy here for 2 visits until I realized that they were not the right fit for me. The veterinarian (Kuo) was rude and not helpful with any questions I had. My puppy was microchipped here and I filled out the registration on the spot & handed it back to the tech to take care of. They also provided him with a "google number" - which, to this day, does not work. It wasn't until a few days ago, when my dog was lost, that I found out they were RECKLESS and IRRESPONSIBLE with the microchip as well. They never registered my dog & when I called took no responsibility nor were they a bit apologetic. I do not recommend this office at all. Read Less

I've been using Rice Village Animal Hospital for about 10 years now, and today was the last day I'll ever set foot in that place. I've brought 3 cats (one now deceased) and our new puppy there. My cat had a urinary bacterial infection, and to diagnose it in May they charged over $600. The first round of antibiotics did not clear up the e. colli infection, so they rechecked her even though we knew it was the same infection that was not knocked out the first time. They charged another $600 to diagnose her again. We were told her recheck would only be $79 and have the paperwork to back it up, but today they tried to charge us another $500! Not only do they overcharge and run unnecessary tests, they're unethical and lie about their charges. I'm done with this place. My fiancee and I adopted a puppy from the SPCA and took her to Rice Animal Village after several days of adoption, she developed what seemed to be kennel cough. After three visits and almost $700 later, the vet had given her two treatments of antibiotics and she seemed to worsen-- she stopped eating and drinking, had persistent coughing, and was very sick. When I took here back for yet another visit Dr. Kuo sent me home with nothing and said that the pulmonary symptoms were likely due to irritants in the household (incense, aerosols, air fresheners etc) . We had also asked to check for mange and she had scraped the wrong part of the dog, instead of doing scrapings on the missing patch of hair, she scraped a scar and charged me and extra $50 for a fungal culture (it did not look like ringworm at all). I brought her back and made them scrape the missing patch of hair and found mange. They did not refund me my $50. Finally, on the brink of death we took our puppy to another veterinary hospital after she became so sick. She was then correctly diagnosed with distemper (in 1 visit) and required 2 weeks of hospitalization (IV fluids, vaporizer treatment, and antibiotics) and almost died. Needless to say do not take your pets to these incompetent people who seriously overcharge for their lack of skill. Read Less

Rice Village Animal Hospital

Houston Texas 77005

Read Less
