We take all of our rescues here, as well as our own dogs. love the staff, and all the doctors. We don't use anywhere else around Houston. Our experience was EXCELLENT. We love Dr. P.! She is always kind and gentle to our beloved pups, and calm, rational, informative in her conversations with us. She consistently helps us choose the most economical treatment options that will also yield the best health outcomes, a necessary consideration for us. In Coco's particular case, Dr. P. offered us wise counsel and prescribed an antibiotic that has worked beautifully. Coco has fully recovered. The technician who helped us initially was also excellent, as was the assistant working the front desk. Reviews prior to 2009 are for the previous vet practice that was in the same location, but went out of business. Richmond Avenue Animal Hospital did not open with the current exceptional staff and doctors until the spring of 2009. So the negative reviews from Citysearch in 2007 do not apply to the current vet practice at this address. Read Less

Let me start off by saying this is not the vet I take my animals to, but if I lived in the area I would take them here in a heart beat!On my route to work I saw a kitten get hit by a car so I drove it to Richmond Animal Hospital to see if we could save it. Unfortunately, the kitten did not make it, but the staff acted quickly and promptly to save her. I think she died in route. The staff did not stop there. They proceeded to take care of me as I was a mess - covered in blood and tears. They offered me coffee, time to gather myself, and helped me clean my work clothes so I could get off to work. These girls truly care about animals and people. The fact they went the extra mile for me (not even a permanent client) is incredible and I HIGHLY encourage anyone looking for a vet in this area to check them out. The clinic is also super clean! I started taking my rescue pets here because their prices were so reasonable compared to everywhere else.Checkups, medications, and even surgeries are a fraction of the cost I was estimated at other vets.The vets are  very thorough and caring, And I trust them all. The staff at the front desk are helpful and always answer the phone when you need them. I started bringing all my pets here after having so many great experiences with the rescue animals.It's really nice to be given practical advice and not be overcharged, I have yet to have a negative experience.The office is very simple and plain, and All appointments are walk ins only.  I rarely have to wait long to be seen. The first word that comes to mind when I think of Richmond Avenue Animal Hospital is FAMILY! This facility truly loves to care and heal animals. The entire staff is knowledgeable, understanding and informative. The office is clean and the vibe is always warm and welcoming. Dr. Wilkie is the primary physician for my dog Pickle and she is absolutely out of this world..(she literally saved Pickle from a kiss of death once) She is a trooper and will do all that she can to assist and resolve any reservations and concerns you might have. Dr. Pipiringos is also another exceptional physician with a loving touch. I am fully aware and have witnessed that team work is the core of this hospital, from Doctor to Vet Tech to Front Desk...they all work together to execute the best care they can provide. Just alittle over 3 weeks ago...I picked my baby up from being boarded for nearly 10 days while I was on vacation. Firstly I noticed blood in my truck on the way back, but thought nothing of it as sometimes she bites her paws. Then I noticed a strong smell from her neck a few days later which coincidentally turned out to be a staph infection from some serious collar burn she got while being in the care of Richmond Avenue Animal Hospital. When I took her in to be evaluated, this place refused to take responsibility for the harm they caused around her neck, and certainly not want to take the financial responsibility for the injuries she sustained while in their care. The vet's response was "well you know she is out of control." After speaking with the office manager, all costs were covered at this time. I also requested my medical records as I didn't know if we were going to continue our care with them.She still has scabs from the wounds around her neck. Today, while calling in prescriptions for medicine, they informed me that they dropped me as a client. Meanwhile, we are looking for a new vet. I trusted them for years with my babies and I cannot believe they caused harm to my one. I asked the vet if they would take more consideration while boarding so no other harm to any other animal would happen. I was not expecting them to drop us as a client! Read Less

These doctors and staff are the best. They laugh with me cry when I do. They absolutely know what they are doing. One time I had to be referred to Gulf Coast Specialty clinic. The vets there informed me that even though I had been referred they wanted to run their own tests. When I told them who my vet was (Dr. Diane Wilkie at Richmond Avenue Animal Hospital) they said never mind no additional tests were needed. Obviously Dr. Wilkie is that good. Read Less

Charlotte gets exceptional care at Richmond Avenue Animal Hospital. She is not a friendly dog and gets anxious when she is away from me. The staff goes out of their way to make her feel safe and she responds very well to their care. I would not consider taking Charlotte anywhere else. Read Less

An excellent staff from top to bottom who are kind and exceptionally competent . Their hours are flexible and they work with me as much as possible so my dog can get the very best care . It is obvious when you walk in the door that their mission is what's best for animals and those who love them I would never think of bringing my pets anywhere else . They are truly the best ! My dog is blind, he was eating very little and just generally not his happy self. Worried that maybe he was diabetic or the kidneys were not working. The cheerful staff at the front Desk were so welcoming and put me at my ease. Dr. P. was marvelous DID blood work gave him a thorough examination all the while talking to my doggie and being so gentle and kind. The dog if fine nothing serious and I am also doing better. Richmond Ave Pet Hospital made a last minute appointment for my sweet boy Brutus. He has bad upset stomach and was not in good shape. I have both cats & dogs that I bring to RAAH & they are all treated like family.  No matter how limited or detailed the visit may be I can always get an estimate of the costs & I never feel embarrassed if I have to limit what I can do. I recently had to euthanize my beloved 13+ yr old Lab. The staff explained the process with me before they medicated her. They graciously allowed me as much time with her as I needed & when I left the front staff was gracious as well. We ended up having her cremated & returned to us with her paw print & lock of her hair. I didn't know this was an option & was so very grateful my Veterinarian suggested this. My Lab is back home helping with our grieving process. I can't imagine taking my pets anywhere else for their veterinary care. Richmond Avenue Animal Hospital is the place to go. Read Less

My husband and I just moved to the area.  Sadly, before we left home we found out that our cat had many health problems.  We were anxious about starting with a new vet in an unfamiliar area. I am so glad we found Richmond Avenue Animal Hospital! The receptionists, vet techs, and vet were extremely kind, patient, and knowledgeable.  They answered all of our questions (we had a lot!), and the price for the examination and other services was really reasonable (in comparison to back home - I am not yet familiar with the standard costs in Houston).  We are so relieved to have a new, reliable, kind, and amazing vet hospital to take our pets to near our new home. I recently bought myself my very own first puppy! (an English bulldog to be exact) I had no idea what vet to book an appointment with at first bc I've never been here just choose based on reviews & I asked for the vet with most dog experience & they booked me with Dr.Pipiringos...Naturally this being my first puppy I have a lot of questions about general health, training, vaccines, wormer, feeding/nutrition, breed specific, temperament, etc!... the vet & the tech were such a great help & answered any question I had with complete understanding that I had no knowledge so she explained everything very well...yes I can google a lot of my questions but at the same time the opinions of those who are looking at my dog specifically then & there I think would have better knowledge than google. Also found out they do boarding here as well & can bring in ur pets own food/bedding. & the front office staff was so nice & everyone loved my little puppy & he loved the attention too....needless to say I'll be back for his next round of vaccines in 2 weeks! & continue to go for my primary vet care needs. I am truly appreciative of the friendly and professional staff at Richmond Ave Animal Hospital.  It was not difficult to speak to someone over the phone and appointments are easily made to fit your schedule.  Once at the hospital, it was not a long wait and the vet techs and doctors strive to make you and your pet comfortable.  I was very comfortable with bringing my pet here as I feel the staff do show that they care about your pet and do not cut corners.  It was great to get updates on how long a test result would take and everything was always very thoroughly explained.  I'm glad to have found a great vet for my fur child in Houston! The veterinarians and staff at Richmond Avenue Animal Hospital have been great to our family for the past few years! Every time we take our two dogs to either get a check-up or board, they are very caring and understanding with them. Both of our are shelter rescues and have their own issues (behavioral and medical) and Richmond Avenue really does handle them in the best ways possible. Everyone at Richmond Ave Animal Hospital was very warm and sweet to me and my puppy. My dog had been limping for a couple weeks on and off and so I took her in. The doctor suggested x-rays and anti-inflammatories because we could not actually locate a physically painful point on her leg/shoulder. Being a broke student I asked if we could wait on the x-rays and see if she could recover on her own. The Vet said sure, let's wait three days and then bring her in if she's not better. Well the anti-inflammatories and pain killers didn't seem to do much for her. So I brought her back in and we x-rayed her. The kind vet sent them to a couple different specialists, one of which said she had bone spurs and should be operated on (actually that she should have both shoulders and both elbows operated). This would be around 5K if we got them all done at the same time. We then heard back from another specialist who said we should bring her in right away, with another $150 office visit he would be able to tell us what was wrong. Unfortunately/fortunately I had to leave town for a family emergency and could not take her to this doctor who was ready to operate on her. In the meantime I sent the x-rays to my friend who is a vet in another state. He said he didn't agree with anything that either specialist had said. HE couldn't see anything wrong with her in the images. So we waited another two weeks and she healed just fine. Aside from the incredible stress of trying to find 5,000 dollars for a surgery that did not need to happen, I am upset that these "doctors" would have put this sweet dog through something like this without actually knowing what was wrong with her. Again, everyone treated me and my dog really well. I do hope however, that people pause before they put animals (and owners) through such serious operations. Read Less

I was really impressed by this place. I was in a pinch and needed a vet today at 5:15 because my dog was having stomach issues. I called four other vets and no one could see me because of the late hour. I finally tried this place and after just a few questions, they agreed to see me in 5 minutes!The front desk staff was really helpful and kind. The vet, Dr. Pipiringos, spent a lot of time explaining my dog's medications and answering all of my questions. I never felt rushed even though I was a last-minute, last appointment of the day, crazy dog mom. I'll definitely be back for check ups and the next time my dog inevitably gets sick. Read Less

My puppy has a bump on her toe that has been growing and could be a malignancy - so as you can guess I was very worried.I've tried another vet and they weren't very helpful, they told me they wanted to do a biopsy and didn't give me a lot of options.Dr. Wilkie was AMAZING. I can't stress this enough - her team took their time, her front desk was so nice and welcoming. I don't think I have ever been treated this well at a Vet before.Dr. Wilkie took her time with my puppy, Olive. She was gentle and spent almost an hour with me talking to me about our options. She seemed very knowledgeable and treated Olive as if she was HER dog. She gave me options to choose from and was very comforting and kind.The waiting room was nice and comfy, and I waited for about 5-10 minutes to see the vet - Jackpot.I highly recommend RAAH -  I'm so glad, after three or four different clinics in Olive's lifetime, I can safely say I have found the one! We adopted a dog who had some problems and got loose off the lease. She had some injuries from running around fences and things, so we took her to this vet and informed the previous shelter in order to get any kind of help finding her. We eventually found her running through the neighborhood but experienced some cuts, so we took her to this vet based on advice from the shelter. This vet allowed the shelter to come in and steal our dog without even informing us. When we called the vet to ask when we should pick up our dog, they informed us that she's gone and to contact the shelter. What?!?!?! They never gave us an update on her recovery or what was going on. These people are nuts, and I would never trust any animal with them. If you care about your animal, do not take your dog there. We took amazing care of her and could not believe that our dog was stolen by these people. If you don't want the same thing to happen to you then don't take your pet here.Read Less

Dr. P is just amazing. She's absolutely the most genuine and caring vet I've ever met. I keep equating her to a pediatrician for worried first time dog parents (and secretly wish to clone her and make her my human doctor, haha). My darling Pudge had an adverse reaction to his rabies vaccine at 4:50pm on a Friday. Dr. P took my call, walked me through her differential, and told me how to dose Benadryl for him AND she gave me her home phone number to call her just in case I needed someone to talk to. "Because sometimes talking to someone can help." WHO DOES THAT!? Wow. That just really meant a lot to me. I adore this woman. So much respect for her and her natural gift at soothing both animal and human. The staff is also top notch. They enthusiastically greet every dog and human. They are respectful and I love the promptness when calling in for an appointment. I could not ask for a better vet or a better place to take my furchild. I think even Pudge enjoys going! The vets here are all very nice, but they have a lot of trouble calling you back with lab results for your pet. They ran some expensive tests on our cat and said they'd call us back with the results in a week. Two weeks later, I had left several messages and never got a call back. Then I found out that given the results, the meds we were giving our pet should have been different. For the amount of money I spent on the testing, I should have been informed of the test results in a timely manner and changed her meds accordingly. This has happened twice. I will go back there again, but just for routine check ups. Also, they seem more dog-centric and less informed about cats. That's just the impression I get. Read Less

I just moved to the area and wanted to get my 14 year-old cat her shots and a check up, Richmond Avenue Animal Hospital was awesome. We saw Dr. Pipiringos & she checked out every little concern I had about my senior kitty. The rest of the staff was great as well. Another wonderful thing is how easy they make everything....they make sure to call you and confirm/remind you about appointments and you can set up an online Pet Portal account that gives you reminders and lets you access your pet's records at any time. When I went in they, entered all the wrong information on my pup. I've worked in an animal clinic and I've treated many animals for worms without reinfestations. The vet thought one dose orally for $$$ was going to clear it, but sure enough in 2 weeks my pup was flooded with worms again. They do not carry flea or heartworm medicinces in house, and are not customer service friendly. They are also very overpriced for the amount of attention your pet or your questions get answered. They are very unprofessional and had me restrain my pet while being injected. Read Less

I've taken my dog here twice for boarding- the first him was ok, except they didn't return stuffed toy and I had to return later in the week to get it. The second time his rope toy was ""in the wash"" and part of his gentle leader leash was missing. I came back later in the week to see if they had found either one and was told that the rope had broke and the leash was chewed up. It was a brand new leash! And those things are not cheap. The only way it could have been chewed up was if it was left in the cage with my dog, and who leaves the leash in the cage? I've also been here for vet service - great vet, very friendly, but she only looked at my dog for like 2 minutes and didn't seem to have time for my questions. I'm sure she has great vet skills, but the place overall needs to work on the customer service. Read Less

I had used this vet and the boarding services when I lived in Houston 4 years ago, in fact, my whole family used them. When I moved back to Houston it was only natural that I would take my baby back to them. What a big mistake. I boarded my dog for week. When I dropped her off she was claen, healthy and happy. When I picked her up it was a completely different story. First, they made me wait almost twenty minutes to bring her out. That seems suspicious to me. Then when I finially got her, she was coughing and sneezing. I asked what had happened to her and they told me allergies. My dog has been all over the state of Texas and never had allergies! To top it off she stunk to high heaven. There was no comment on how she had done, whether she had eaten, etc. I had to specifically ask for her leftover food and bag of toys. When I got her home the first thing I did was give her a bath. It was awful!! The water coming off my baby was brown from the feces and urine covering her. There was feces stuck in her fur to the extent that I had to cut hair off her hind quarters. When I called to inform the vet about the situation, I was not given any explanation or apology. I don't have any children so my dog is like. Needless to say, I am looking for a new vet and will never boared my baby here again!!! Read Less
