Beware of this filthy clinic, incompetent vets, and apathetic staff! I brought my dog in to be neutered, and was told on check-in that he would be ready around 1. I hear nothing all day… 3 o’clock rolls around (they close at 4) and I call up to see if my dog is ok, to which they say “Oh the poodle! Yea he’s been ready for hours” they just forgot to call me. I come and pick him up, no big deal.
I was meticulous about keeping his incision clean, dry, and not allowing him to touch it, but a couple days after the surgery, the incision turned red and started swelling dramatically. I called asking to speak to a vet or vet tech. The first time, I sat on hold for 20 minutes and then they hung up on me. The second time I got ahold of someone, but they instructed me to email my concerns to their office manager. Weird, but ok… I do so, and hear back a few hours later. She tells me he’s probably fine but to come pick up some more anti-inflammatories for him, and to email her if it gets worse (they are closed on the weekends, but she said she’d pass my email along to the vet if anything came up over the weekend). I had to specifically request that they give me antibiotics for him going into the weekend.
The next day, the incision is way worse, so I email them… It is radio silence for the entire weekend. I send a follow up email, leave a voice mail, and call several more times before I am graced with a response. At this point his incision is insanely swollen and oozing bloody slim.
They say they want to see him (hallelujah), but say I can either drop him off and they’ll try to work him in today or tomorrow, or I can do a standby type appointment tomorrow. They couldn’t seem to make time for him despite the fact he was just getting worse. I had no intention of leaving him there (it reeked in the clinic, and I witnessed one of their vet techs “cleaning up” urine by literally smearing it around with a Swifter wet jet), but I didn’t want to wait for the next day, so I brought him to another clinic who got him in within three hours.
He had a severe infection. They did some testing, and the antibiotics I was provided by this clinic (Remember, I had to specifically request they give me antibiotics at all, they just wanted to give me the anti-inflammatories and hope for the best) weren’t even effective against the bacteria with which he was infected!
The vet asked me a few questions about his postoperative care, and was baffled as to how his infection was so severe (several bacteria involved). However, considering how long he was stuck there and the general filth that characterized the clinic, I was not surprised.
When I raised these concerns to the office manager, she denied their facility was anything but immaculately clean (the offensive smell begs to differ), and insisted his infection was due to some oversight on my part. This is not my first rodeo, I have seen numerous dogs through a variety of surgeries, and have never had a dog get an infection, but then again, this was my first time working with this clinic.
Thankfully, he is doing well now… no thanks to this death trap of a clinic, their apathetic vets, and utterly contemptible office manager. Read Less
