I would like someone to tell me why my puppy of 3 months picked upped hook worms during his 3 days stay and were not told about it nor was he even treated for it. When we reported diarrhea from the 3 three day stay we learned much later of 2 weeks diarrhea treatment, from the front desk, he had hook rooms. It took two weeks of meds for that before we found out he had picked up hook worms during his stay. We took 2 weeks of meds for the runs before we found out from the front desk he had picked up hook worms during his stay and needed Panacor. I think the Sunset Blvd Animal Hospital is way under staffed and our 3 month old puppy needlessly suffered and lost weight before he was treated with the one cure for hook worms, Panacor. But meanwhile he was given nothing but diarrhea meds. Read Less

I had the absolute worst experience at this hospital. I took my pup, Zoe in because she had fallen unconscious on an early Sunday morning. The doctors saw her right away and couldn't seem to figure out what was wrong with her, after hrs of waiting they finally said that she needed to be left there for the day to keep an eye on her (mind you they still didn't know what was wrong) so I got a call on Monday morning that I could go and pick her up, which I did. Later on that same night Zoe was unconscious again so I ended up having to take her back to the same hospital out of desperation. Zoe spent 3 days in that hospital and they still could not figure out what was wrong with her. They kept coming up with theories and all these theories needed exams and all the exams needed to be paid upfront. It almost seemed like it was being done purposely in order to get money out of me. The nurses weren't knowledgeable of anything that was going on. They didn't really know when she had eaten, if she had eaten or if she had gone to the restroom. And the receptionist at the counter were absolutely awful. No sense of compassion or customer service. One was so rude she would literally ignore me if I was talking to her. Overall it was an extremely difficult time and the staff there didn't make any effort to actually find what was wrong with her. Instead after 3 days of wasting my time and Zoe's time they sent me to another hospital which lucky for us was actually capable of doing their job. Gulf Coast animal hospital needed roughly 8 hrs to tell me what was wrong with her and to start her on a treatment. I will say that Dr.Adams and an overnight receptionist did an excellent job while Zoe was in their care but when she was transferred over to another doctor they did an absolute terrible job caring for Zoe and ensuring that she got the proper treatment. Looking back at it I do believe they were only attempting to put me in a financial difficult situation by pulling the strings of my heart with my poor Zoe. Read Less

Amazed, Thankful, Blessed and HAPPY is how I feel about Sunset Animal Clinic ! Dr. Zharkyn Omarbekov, DVM ASSOCIATE VETERINARIAN Did an amazing job on spaying my child Miniature Schnauzer Nina, I went to pick her up and she was walking and wagging her tail with happiness, came home not even a day and she was perfectly fine and her scar from the spaying is not even there ! I am just amazed! How they work as a team and made sure my Nina was perfectly back to normal! They send a Get Well card that is just super cute!!! DR.Z called me every 15-20 minutes to let me know how Nina was and how she was doing during surgery and I am thankful for that! It made me feel relief and secure on who’s hands I left my Nina with. Thank you everyone and the staff for being helpful and amazing ! Great Job !!! Read Less

Our puppy saw Dr. Hayes late last night for a minor emergency. He was brought back for treatment immediately upon arrival. His issue was remedied promptly, and Dr. Hayes was vey personable and informative. I was most surprised by how reasonable the fees were. No new patient fee, no after hours fee, just a doctor visit. Based on our experience, I highly recommend Sunset Animal Hospital for emergencies and would be happy to establish routine care here with Dr. Hayes moving forward. Read Less

They have had some issues in the past but with their new facility, they are still getting back on track. The new facility is really spacious and has WAY better parking. I only go to this animal hospital because of Dr Stephanie Eddy. She is the world's greatest veterinarian! I am extremely grateful for the way she has treated both my animals. She has such genuine love and appreciation for animals and it shows in her work. We refuse to see any other vet, which would only be subpar. When calling in for assistance, I recommend to ask to speak to a vet tech or to come into the facility and ask to speak to one. Some of the front line employees will provide wrong information, lose fecal samples, etc. But the vet techs have a better experience and provide much better assistance. They are open 24/7 which is great for emergencies. Read Less

Do not go to this hospital! They literally killed my kitten! My kitten was 5 months old and he was attacked by my dog when he got loose. My kitten didn’t have no blood spilling or anything he almost got suffocated really bad when I stopped my dog. He was trying to breathe and take a few steps but he was really weak. Then I came here and I only lasted 5 minutes being there, they took him and the doctor discussed the pricing to check him and it was $500, she left and came back and already pronounced him dead. I feel like they killed my kitten, he was trying to live and coming here just made it worse. How did my kitten die in just 5 minutes? Next thing they charged me $54 just for an “exam” they did before he passed away. Really disappointed and not coming back! Read Less

Awful experience. After spending 15 minutes convincing me my dog was fine and not to worry the vet (Dr z) leaves the room and the vet tech comes to tell me they are recommending a huge work up and when I expressed confusion as to why all these test were needed when the vet had just told me all was fine she told me that’s what they are recommending and I need to sign a form saying I decline if I don’t want to do it. The vet didn’t even come back to the room to talk with me to explain why these tests were needed after he had just told my dog was fine. It just made me even more confused and worried for my dog but now I don’t trust what they are telling me. I am a provider in a large pediatric emergency room and understand things are busy on a Saturday but that is no excuse to give poor patient care. Clearly they are just out for money. If I could give this place no stars, I would. We brought one of our dogs in for a surgery consulation and then $500 for x rays. Not only did they take over 4 days to get us the x ray results, but they tried to over charge us for the surgery and the surgeon is not even board certified. We eventually got it done by a board certified surgeon for $1,500 less. Additionally, they wanted to charge me a new exam fee in order to fill a prescription after having been there two months prior, because someone forgot to write down at the last exam that my dog gets car sick. I cant even get him to the vet without the prescription but they wont fill it unless I pay for him to come in AGAIN. This place used to be great, it seems that they moved to the new loaction, restaffed and are ripping people off. Read Less

My dog was sick and I needed to see someone on a weekend. This vet is five minutes from my home and they are open 24/7. The first visit was a 3 star experience all the stars to Dr. Becker in which I enjoyed her professionalism. In regards to the rest of my visit the front desk people are like those mannequins you see in the store window lifeless and when they do respond to you its a very bland conversation or response no smile or emotion they act as if they are operating on auto pilot. I think they need to put some attention to this matter this is the face of your company after all. It’s not like I am at Ben Taub hospital granted it definitely feels that way. After going through check In you get assessed if your pet is stable then you are asked to have a seat. The wait...... oh the wait yeah that is long about 2/3 of the time spent there will be waiting. If you have ever been to a low cost pet clinic with walk ins only policy you know what it is to wait if not I will tell you it’s about a hour at minimum. Then after review my bill the following day I came to realize that I was charged two exam fees I called and they refunded the money that was overcharged. Side note check your receipt. NOW FOR THE SECOND VISIT - The people at the front desk again. FRUSTRATING!!!! I walk in and as soon as I get to the desk this older woman with red hair is grabbing her tums bottle out of her bag doesn’t say a word to me proceeds to get out her tums tells me to hold on all of this I end up having to watch her chew her tums before she can say how can I help you an again a damn mannequin on auto pilot this time I was seen quickly there was no one there at 6 on a Tuesday but the wait was forever for diagnostics I did not leave until 8:45. I went to give medicine today only to realize that they did not mix the liquid antibiotics it was still in its powder form I call and I was instructed on how to make this into liquid form with no apology. So after all of this I am left extremely upset and disappointed with this establishment I have spent close to a thousand dollars with them in two different visits with two different pets and questioning if I should return again. 4/9/18 I replied via phone and email with no response since the reply from Mary. I don't know if it's a genuine response or a pr for good looks Read Less

I brought my beast on an emergency since he threw up 5 times in a day, and I had no idea why. They draw up blood and x-rays, and quickly discovered he had a blockage in his intestine - which turned out to be a massive hair ball (don't forget to groom hairy beasts). Dr. Becker was great, very knowledgeable and patient to my infinite questions. In the end Dr. Becker recommendation's worked and helped my beast recover. On a side note, I would give 4 star to the hospital since the barn doors don't really isolate the examination units (and it can get pretty noisy - important for sick cats since there could be loud dogs outside.) Furthermore, the hospital should invest some money in ear thermometers; only after sedating my beast they were able to get his temperature. None of my beasts would allow a rectal thermometer to come close to them. They invested a lot of money in renovating the hospital, but not in ear thermometers? That said the important thing is that they cured my beast and he is ready to go on another adventure. Read Less

This vet is against Raw feeding and I will not return. I'm not going to switch their eating habits. Your lack of PMR raw diet knowledge was embarrassing.  The comment about " you are lucky your dogs haven't died from salmonella poisoning yet"...   Ok so I've ran into people who said be careful and make sure you are cleaning after yourself but never like this! I was respectful and held my tongue.  If you don't like how I feed my dogs Ms vet tech---- don't insult  or belittle me with your comments. Very unprofessional.  Doctor was nice and knowledgeable (medical side and didn't comment or see altercation I had with Tech lady.  The tech lady (not sure name)...... well it was not a good first time experience and I am furious right now. I called earlier asking the front desk gentleman if your vet is against raw feeding and won't be judged and he assured me this would not happen. He said we respect you and will not try to switch you.  I told him I don't want to deal with this confrontation yet even with his assurance ..... it happened.  I told him while I was checking out and hopefully he understood  my frustration.I will be sharing my review with every Dane owner and raw feeder so they won't go thru the disrespect I encountered. Sadly after many years of taking our beloved pets to Sunset Boulevard Animal Clinic, we are going elsewhere. We really tried to "stay put", but we have not had any experiences to make us stay.  I am not sure if it is just bad management since Dr. Young sold or lack of being able to keep any knowledgeable vets on staff since staying open 24 hours/7 days a week.  As another reviewer posted, it really seems to be "PROFIT BEFORE PETS!"!I have had so many bad experiences they are hard to list, but just a few....a mistaken tumor diagnosis by one of the vets  that cost over $2,000 and a weekend of being in tears after being told our dog had just a few months to live (that was 5+ years ago and he just passed this month).  Later we heard she really wasn't a good vet and did this more than once!  A tapeworm episode that we told them was tape worms, but it took two fecals, over $500 and a video of the worms moving before they would sell us the medicine for tapeworms.Dr. Z does seem like a decent vet, but he was the only one we felt we could trust and since everyone felt the same way, it was hard to get an appointment with him. The policies and pricing seem to change as well so be sure to watch the invoices and ask if you don't know what something is.....it might have been put accidentally on the bill.  My husband and I love our pets as family and there is nothing we wouldn't do or pay for them, but it became a feeling that I was being taken advantage of every time I left there.  After reading the reviews here and on our neighborhood posting site, unfortunately I feel that I am not alone in my feelings.  I do hope the owner will take time to evaluate the reviews.  I don't think anyone minds spending money on their furry family members, but we also expect to get the quality vet care we are paying for! First my horrible experience: The ladies at the front are very nice & welcoming but this place is money hungry Do your research before! So my puppy ate something he wasn't suppose to eat with his sensitive stomach. He got sick. He was going #3 all over the place So one of the doctors, he told me my puppy had Parvo!! (Even though they just gave him his Parvo shots & all his puppies shots few weeks before) That they have to charge me $5,000 bc he might die, and has to stay over night and then left me alone to cry for about 20 minutes! Thinking my puppy is going to die! Well the sweet assistant came in feeling horrible. I called my bf & my sister. I sent them screenshots of the $5,000 paperwork wanted me to sign & payMy bf & sister told me to leave immediately I gave my puppy some canned pumpkin and he was fine a day later! Thank goodness! Second The wellness plan: I was on the wellness plan here. So every month I had to pay $64.00/month for a whole year. Trust me I tried to cancel after realizing that wasn't a smart decision. That wasn't possible bc to cancel I had to pay $600. No thank you! Even though I came in about maybe 5 times which isn't worth it to me bc I came in just to get his nails clipped which is NOT included in the wellness plan. So that's $15. Also he had to get his anal glands squeezed which was NOT included in the wellness plan. That was $25. I payed this every 3 weeks including the $64 wellness plan until I realized I can YouTube & nail clip/ express his anal glands myself Hope this helps! Read Less

I took my kitty cat, Mitzi in the Wed. before Christmas. This was my first visit. My kitty (2yrs old) appeared to be close to dying. Heart rate low, and temperature below normal, no energy, unable to walk steady, unable to keep food or water down. I had rushed her to the emergency Clenic at 3am early morning and when I arrived at Sunset, later at 10am that day, Mitzi was taken back to be examined within about 3 minutes, ( they were very busy at the time) I had called ahead to inform them of her condition. It wasn't long until they informed me that, they believed she had ingested a foreign object and it was lodged in her tummy, and would need an E-Ray and potentially surgery... The cost, well that was a lot! But as expected, considering her condition. Long story short, the Dr's and nurses techs were extremely thorough in terms of Mitzi's condition, and immediate needs for surgery. Dr. Stallings, and Dr., Director Laurel Douglass and their nurses team could not have been more kind and reassuring, that Mitzi was in good hands. You could clearly see that they genuinely care about their patient's and their patient owners well being. I would highly recommend taking your pets to Sunset! I asked how much and she went out to do the estimate. When she came back in she said 373.00 and change. I said ok go ahead and do it. I get the call to pick him up so I go up there. They say there was nothing in his throat and they don't know what is wrong but give me antibiotics and steroids. They said if that does not work come back in 3 days. Sunset Boulevard Animal Clinic was pretty good.  Not outstanding, but not horrible either.  I think it should be noted that there aren't very many options for emergency animal clinics in Houston to begin with, so it's nice to have one that doesn't charge you $500 just to check out your animal.  Their initial exam is just $55, which isn't bad.  Chances are though, your treatment will be much more expensive.  I brought my cat in to Sunset on a Sunday morning and they were able to see her right away.  She hadn't been eating, which can be very serious for cats (they shouldn't go more than a couple days without food).  They looked her over, did some x-rays and bloodwork, and couldn't find anything wrong.  They offered to keep her overnight but I opted out.  Instead they gave her a shot of IV fluids and let me take her home.  Overall cost was over $700 by the time I left. The next day I took her to my regular vet once they opened and they administered an appetite stimulant.  I did wonder why Sunset didn't try that first, instead of trying to keep her overnight, but there's no way for me to know at this point.  Sunset is a good option if you're in an emergency situation and need help immediately, but I don't think I'd go there during normal business hours. Sunset Blvd. Animal Clinic is not cheap and yes they ask you to guarantee payment as most hospital emergency rooms do. But at least at Sunset when I took my dog Lucky in deathly ill, they did blood work and exam and tentative diagnosis before mentioning money. Then, I had the option of paying or going somewhere else. They did not save Lucky, but they made a valiant effort to do so and stayed in touch with me the whole time he was in the hospital. I appreciate that they are not like other vets who lock up at night and leave the sick animal alone until morning. They are like an actual hospital. Vets are there all night and treatment does not stop. I trust Sunset and will use them again. There comes a time when we all have to die, no matter how much we are loved. It is easy to blame the doctor, the hospital, or even God and that is just part of the grieving process. I thank you Sunset, for the care of Lucky and for the compassion you showed to him and to me. I had a wonderful experience with Sunset Blvd Animal Clinic! After a walk around 11PM I noticed my dachshund nibbling at her paws and scratching all over. I took a closer look and her face was swollen and she had bumps everywhere. I took her straight to Sunset Blvd Animal Clinic after a quick google search for a 24 hr vet clinic. The doctor was wonderful, and the staff was welcoming even at such a late hour. I was expecting an extremely high bill, but was pleasantly surprised that it was very reasonable for the emergency exam, and two shots for her allergic reaction. We are now back home, and her swelling has gone down significantly. Thank you! Read Less

You can tell all the employees at the clinic really love animals. They have great people skills too. The vets take time with you to make sure you understand everything. The best is being open 24/7 so when I had to leave my sick pup, I knew she would be watched and cared for all night. At other vets, its lights out and doors locked at closing and no one is there until the morning to see if a dog pulls out an IV or has a crisis. Read Less

While they do take walk-ins, it's at least an hour wait. I took my dog in for diarrhea and vomiting and came out with a $650 quote for everything under the sun! $55 just to look at her and 180$ for the blood work....Plus the "consultation" fee and "have someone else in addition to the vet look at X-rays" fee, "fecal exam for parasites" fee, "fecal exam for the eggs of those same exact parasites" fee...blah blah blah fees for days. When you get to discuss options and a quote, they will recommend a whole list of procedures for diagnosing the issues....Interesting. From a customer care standpoint that's not too comforting. I don't like the idea of the vet giving me a list of 10 options and the vet-tech discussing the top 5 that I can afford bc I'm in no shape to throw down for the whole sha-bang. Tell me what she bottom line NEEDS to cure whatever she has or go over a comprehensive PLAN for her route for recovery. Very drive-thru menu type of vet care. My baby deserves a little better bed-side treatment on that end.The actual vet visit and consultation was a bit too short with long wait times in between. However, I will say that the lab is on-site (always a plus) and she went over the results of blood and fecal within 20 min. Results: Bacterial Infection determined from the fecal sample. Vet was informative and patient in explaining the results of the fecal and blood tests as well as the treatment options (again more fees and cost but whatever).Overall not bad for a walk in clinic, just a little pricey... but as a pet-parent the health of my fur-kiddo is worth the cash. Ramen noodles will have to work for the rest of the week.Total time spent at the clinic for some sloshy poop and vomiting pup: 3 hours. Read Less

Yesterday was our first time at sunset animal clinic my mom and I went to say goodbye to our beloved friend of 15 years. He has been my mom's loyal sidekick for the last 15 years, he was such a good boy. This was a day we knew was coming but still did not know what to expect or how hard it was going to be, my mom had a few people suggest sunset, and I know why. These people ACTUALLY CARE!! The beautiful woman at the front desk, Kendra was on the phone when we came in so we got the paperwork and sat down, she made a point to come over and introduce herself, brought tissues because I was already a mess hugged us and told us the process and was so loving and kind. I can't tell you how grateful we are for this place. Dr Douglass you will never know how your compassion and loving words gave us so much comfort, because you are really an angel. Dr Douglass was so loving and patient listening to all of our stories about chewy and answering our questions. We said goodbye to our dear friend and he was finally at peace and we left knowing we had done the right thing at the right place. I can't say enough good things about this place and these people. I was a freshman in high school when we got him and I'm married with a child, he was there through so much and the beautiful souls and sunset knew and understood and were so amazing. I want to report on my recent experience with the Sunset Animal Clinic a couple of weeks ago. Late Friday night, just as my husband and I were going to bed, my beloved old Tom-cat started howling in great distress. His hind legs had collapsed and he was in great pain. I rushed him to Sunset, very grateful that they were now a 24 hour clinic. Without Sunset in the neighborhood, I would have had to take him to the emergency clinic off 610 west, not a good place. He was seen quickly even though there were many emergencies that night. Dr. Chriestmon was very kind and gentle when she explained the sad options we were facing with Tom. She gave us the time and support necessary to make the very difficult decision to end his life. She also pointed out that this kind of blood clot could have happened while we were at work or while Tom was outside, which could have led to much greater suffering on his part before the end. I was grateful for that insight. The decision to end a beloved pet's life is never easy, and it is especially difficult to make when the situation is unexpected. That is why I'm glad that Dr. Chriestmon was able to be clear about Tom's minimal chances for recovery. I know it is hard on a Dr. to tell an unsuspecting pet owner that their beloved animal is in mortal crisis, so I am very grateful that Dr. Criestmon was able to tell us in a gentle and respectful way. The staff at Sunset Boulevard Clinic was very supportive and sympathetic. I've been a customer for over 20 years and will continue to bring my animals to Sunset.Read Less

I would recommend this clinic. My only complaint would be the wait time, if the wait time could be less then this clinic would be the best. ALSO if you have to wait up to 3 hours like I did it would be nice to offer food for the dogs, my poor pup was starving by the time I got him home. They do offer treats and water but not a bowl of food if your there after hours. Read Less

This is a really nice and clean clinic with great front office staff. However, the pricing here is where I have the real issue. This place never costs what they tell you. You get an upfront cost of "$21" for a vaccine, but once you send your pet in there they come back with $200 worth of stuff that is not necessary or needed. I had to argue with them about my dog's vaccines, she had gotten annual vaccinations for all but Bordetella in August and yet they're trying to renew stuff saying it's 6 month, but I know this is not the case. They also like to tack on a $54 "Wellness" charge every time your bring in your pet, regardless of how long it's been since last time you brought your pet in for a $54 extra charge. When you try to decline all these extras they insist that they "have to" do it. I don't really know what that means, they "have to" there is no law that says I have to pay a vet to do a bunch of stuff that is not required and I never consented to. I really don't appreciate being bullied into paying $130 for a $20 vaccine visit, but this is the case every time I've come so far, I ALWAYS walk out of there feeling like I was forced to cough up more money and I'll be taking my business to a vet clinic that actually administers needed care at a proper price without all the used car sales mentality.

I just needed to share our experience and say thank you! We will never forget you!!Read Less

Everyone here is super friendly, and it is so obvious that they want what's best for your little fur baby. I brought my cat in for surgery, and they were informative, professional, prompt, and caring. I had to drop her off overnight, and I was so anxious and started tearing up, and the vet was very reassuring and sympathetic. They even introduced me to the doctor performing the surgery and let me talk to her on the phone afterwards to talk about it. (btw, Dr. Stallings is AMAZING!) I am so lucky to have found this clinic because I have NEVER met a group of people who were this dedicated and devoted. Sunset will be my new home vet! <3 <3 <3 Read Less

I took my 4 year old German Shepherd mix in for a bad ear infection and the clinic is clean and everyone there is friendly, they tend to emergencies pretty quickly and the doctor's answer all your questions.

I decided to give this vet a chance after moving here in January of 2015 - man, am I happy I did! Dr. Woods is the nicest vet I've ever had. She is 100% transparent with me during appointments and goes out of her way to ensure all of my concerns/questions are addressed. It's obvious that she genuinely cares about the well being of my Golden Retriever and my Chihuahua puppy (who also LOVE her). She's very kind and knowledgeable.. I wouldn't take my dogs anywhere else. Thanks Dr. Woods! Read Less
