On June 30th we had an Emergency with our Maltese Cowboy. Our regular vet was closed, my son called Atascazoo and they asked we bring our pup in right away. Our baby was very sick and had to be put to to down. All the staff was so caring and compassionate during this sad event. My husband was able to spend the time he needed to say his final goodbye. I stopped by yesterday and asked if Cowboy had not been picked up yet for cremation if they could get us a lock of cowboy’s fur. The young lady at the front desk (I didn’t get her name) was kind enough to do his for me . I then called today and spoke to Gabby and asked if they could get us 2 extra sets of paw prints and she went above and beyond to do this. I have to say that we are very impressed with their compassion and respectfullness during this difficult time . We plan on making Atascazoo our new Vet. Thank you, The Whalen Family Read Less

I absolutely love this vet!! If I had an entire book, I could not write enough positive things about this clinic. I have gone to this clinic for over 20 years. We have taken our pets here since I was a little girl. Now that I am older, with my own family and pets, I still go here and I don't know what I would do without this incredible place. Every person that I have ever encountered at this clinic has been fantastic- but the most amazing person is Dr. Jensen. She is very knowledgable about all illnesses, she cares so much about her animal patients and their parents, she held my hand when I had to put my puppy down, she persononally calls to check on pets after every appointment (every doctor does), she tells me what tests are needed, but also what tests aren't needed. I have seen several comments that mention that this clinic is out to get your money, but this couldn't be farther from the truth. I have been advised more times than I can count that I don't need a certain X-ray, blood test or other exam (when the internet tells me I do, after googling worst case scenarios when my puppy is sick). I have been to other vets in the past (when I relocated for a short time), where they not only said yes to every test I suggested, playing into my fears but suggested multiple tests I didn't need. This clinic is not out for the money- because they could have gotten thousands of dollars more from me from tests that they told me I didn't need (i.e., X-rays on my dogs lungs twice a year, blood work more often than needed, surgery that isn't necessary). In addition to bringing my pets to this clinic- I have also rescued several animals and they have always given me great advice and worked with me financially. They also put down a little baby kitten, that I brought in, that was stuck in a fence who was suffering and wasn't going to make it. They did that for free- no questions asked. When reading that the people who work at this clinic don't care about animals or are just in it for the money- makes me sick to my stomach. The people here love animals unlike any professionals I have ever known and I am so blessed that I found them to take care of me and my pets! Read Less

I read the reviews for AtascaZoo and was still kind of hesitate because of some others experience with the cost. We gave it a shot and they were so wonderful and gave my Fitz a steroid shot and coached us through exactly what to do! All under $100 and a happy puppy! They even called and checked to make sure he was feeling better after a couple of days! I’m so very pleased with my experience here. Thank you! Read Less

This vet is beyond horrible. I had my dog treated here for about four weeks. My dog has a condition that causes his intestines to swell shut, so I brought him to atascazoo to get treated. After spending $47 to just get my dog looked at, the seemingly competent vet comes in and tells me my dog is going to have to go under a four week treatment. Me being naïve and fearing my baby's health forked over over $400 for his medicine and treatment. Now four weeks has passed and my dogs condition hasn't improved, it has actually gotten worse. I didn't understand why my dogs condition was worsening. I decided to try and take him to a different vet just to get a second opinion. The vet that I took him to was able to immediately identify what was wrong with my dog, and inform me that if I had waited any longer it would have been fatal. He prescribed my dog 8 different medications which the vet from atascazoo prescribed my dog only four, both of which were for the wrong thing. for less than $280 I was giving my baby 8 medications a day. In a little less than two weeks my dog was back to perfect health. At this point I was happy and outraged. my dog was going to be okay which I couldn't be happier about, but I was sickened by the fact that my dog showed no signs of improvement while getting treated at atascazoo, that his condition actually got worse under their care, and that they still kept treating him for the same thing like it'd magically help. I would also like to add that I personally know a lady that has a dog with the same condition get her dog treated here almost till death. They kept reassuring her and demanding the dog stay with them until she said F*** you and got her dog out. She did manage to get her dog back to health. It took a little longer because they put her dog closer to death than mine, but still the incompetence of this vet is absurd. I wish I could rate 0 stars for the incompetence, rudeness, and money mongering of the staff. Please save your money and pets life; go somewhere else! Read Less

I've used Atascazoo Veterinary clinic since approximately 1998? Or maybe even sooner than that. I completely trust their judgment. There are multiple veterinarians there and they staff with each other. In addition, even if you don't like one of the vets there are several to choose from that are equally qualified. They have given good treatment and care to my pets for many years. I particularly love Dr. Batra to treat my cats. I also appreciate that if they know your animal could receive more advanced care at a specialist they do not hesitate to refer to one. I think it's best to keep in mind that veterinarians do the best they can do with a patient who cannot communicate. I completely appreciate their long hours as well. I will continue going here as long as I keep pets which will probably be forever or until my favorite veterinarians there retire. Read Less

Went there this morning had an appointment. I have not been here before. When I got there a sweet younger lady was helping me. Things were fine then the older woman said let's trade. No problem right!!!!! I brought every piece of paper from the time I got my little puppy. She stands there and very rudely states that my shot records do not have anything on the top. I looked at her and said ok. She then insinuates that I made them up!!!!!!! Like I know what shots he is suppose to have. She rudely suggest she can call someone just tell her where it came from. I explained all the numbers are in the paper work. I told her she was being very rude and ugly and that I did not appreciate her being this way. I explained I would not be bringing my puppy back and she said well you can just leave now as she rudely shuffles through the paper work to hand it back to me. I left but I wonder how many puppies or any other animal we put in her care she really takes care of!!!! If she can be that ugly this early in the morning I wonder how ugly she is to those who can't tell us???? Very bad experience!!! By the way all the information to the Vet and where the shots came from was in the paper work along with the receipt where I paid for them. Read Less

I have been using this vet for a few years now. Their prices are a bit high but our dogs were taken care of. Recently our Great Dane had surgery on getting her cherry eye fixed 11/14/16. It never went away after surgery so we went back a few week later 12/5/16 to have her looked at by the surgeon to see if there was anything else we could do as her eye was actually worse then it was when we originally came in. I dropped her off. The head tech and another girl at the front desk were there and had me sign papers just in case the doctor wanted to do surgery. The head tech I will add was rude as all get out. I was told before doing anything I would be called to get give approval to do surgery again and anything else that needed to be done. The surgeon called me and said she was going to do it a second time at no charge. Nothing else was mentioned but surgery! So I was assuming I would only have to pick her up. I wouldn't have balance. When I went to pick her up I had a balance of $134 and some change. The head tech apparently told them I approved all these other things to be done when I dropped her off. Which I did not. One was being shots which were never even spoke of, they didn't go over anything as it was just a check up and someone was going to call me. She just had shots on the 14th of Nov. if I knew we were going to have a balance I would have rescheduled as we didn't have the money after spending close to $800 for the first surgery. I'm upset to say they lost a customer yesterday. Update: the Head technician/or office manager was supposed to call me December 12 I call today December 13 to find out why she didn't call me and she was declining to call me back to get this resolved very unprofessionalRead Less

Read before taking your pet here. I give 0 stars I used this vet 3 times. I should have stopped after the first visit. My first visit was when my cat's eye got infected. Before the vet came in she had already put a bill together even before she looked at the cat. The bill was almost $400.00 just to treat an eye infection. She was treating for wrong thing...herpes virus. After reviewing the bill I could see that she was gouging me so I cut it down to 1/3 of that. The second time my cat had a bladder infection and she tried to tell me that he needs to spend the night. BS and I called her on it. He got a shot of antibiotics and withing a day or two he was fine. The 3rd and final time. My cat is very sick, has a bottom jaw 3 times it size but she starts with all the thing I need to do prior to examining the cat. Now the vet knows that I have to hold the nap of the cats neck while she examines and stick the thermometer up his bottom , I have done this every time since he does not allow people to touch him. But this time she tells me that the tech needs to hold the cat instead of me. I asked why and she said that she does not want me to get bite by the cat. Are you kidding me right now. Its my cat. Pets do better with their owners their. She said will we need to sedate him so come back on Monday and this is Saturday. Then I look on their website and see that they are open on Sundays. What is up with that? I told her I will take the cat somewhere else. Then the tech quickly pick up the cage with the cat in it and started carrying out of the building , I guess they did not want a scene. And I assume I am not the first person that this has been done this way. It really seemed routine. She carried the cat all the way to the car and said to me that she is here for me if I want to talk about it. What does that tell you. Now if the vet was not so use to being cunning she could have said we need to just sedate the cat to examine him and do it. But no she does not know how to be honest which is the real problem. Just be honest so your business does not struggle. Its very obvious she does not care about the animals, You are about the might buck and it will come back on you. We adopted a dog from the Houston Animal Shelter.  He was fine for a few days and then he threw up ... and didn't eat for a day .... and then developed a "tic" which we at first thought was just a case of the hiccups.  It lasted all day on a Saturday.  That Sunday (a vet open on Sunday is amazing!) we called and when I arrived and the reception area saw what was wrong, they took us straight into a room.  The vet could tell what it was wrong immediately and told us our dog had distemper.  Apparently, the shelter mistook the disease for kennel cough, and as underweight as he was, and being we were now at the advanced neurological disease - we made the decision to put the dog to sleep.  The vet was realistic with us, and very kind given the circumstances.  I was impressed with her and her staff's services, and the kind and compassionate way they dealt with us, as new pet owners. Atascazoo has taken care of my various cats for over 5 years but today I will no longer use their services. I have a cat with a chronic condition that needs anti-nausea medicine periodically. I am currently out of the state so I can not take the cat to the vet so I called to see if a prescription could be called in to the pharmacy where I am staying. As usual, they will not do this without seeing the animal and charging a huge bill. I was not asking for a big prescription just 2 or 3 pills to tide us over until we get back to Houston. I miss the old days of veterinary care that did not cost as much as a car and veterinarians who can work over the phone with long time clients. Considering the $ thousands I spent in the last 5 years, I was hoping for a small consideration. Read Less

I can say I was not impressed with Atascazoo. I just moved to the area and did not have a new vet yet so I called around. I spoke to someone on the phone and they sounded friendly enough, I get to the clinic and I am asked if I have his records twice by a woman who hasn't bothered to look up at me once as I am holding out his folder of vet records. I was a walk in waited perhaps 15 - 20 minutes saw the vet who then came and said "oh, we aren't able to do the procedure your cat needs because we aren't fully staffed on Sundays"  this is understandable but when someone calls over the phone and clearly states what the situation is do not say "Yes come in we can treat it" when you cannot, as they made sure to collect their exam fee for.. looking at my cat. I ended up having to go else where.I called back after the emergency visit because I needed someone to monitor my cat while I worked during the day I asked for pricing you know because I just spent about $1500 at the emergency vet and the pricing I received was oh $200 to $300 when I asked for the pricing to be broken down I was told I had to come in. They accept walk ins but prefer appointments, so the first time I was given I think was 3:15 on Monday which wouldn't work because I needed to go into work and he needed at least a few hours of being monitored. I figured that they would treat him like he was in a medicated day care which is what my previous vet has done when he had this same issue three years ago.If you cannot tell me why the charge is so much to monitor my cat, who 1.)  I have his medicine, 2.) He no longer has any life threatening emergency 3.) just needs to have his medicine given to him while I am at work.Pretty sad, I ended taking my cat back Downtown to his original doctor who by the way only charged me about $86.00, to monitor him, give him fluids, give his medications and feed him. Overall I would recommend there services. The Vet and the techs are all very nice, and while some may say they are expensive, they charge what most other vets do. If you have an "accident prone" cat or dog, insurance always helps. My only complaint is sometimes there has been a wait, even though there was no one else waiting and I was early. I'm sure there was a good reason, but in the future if someone could give an ETA and maybe some kind of explanation, it would be appreciated. Read Less

Atascazoo Animal Hospital has been our family vet for 2 years.I am not sure why many reviews claim that they are more expensive than other places. If that is the case (which I don't really agree with...pets are expensive...) you do get what you pay for; this is a great place with helpful, professional care, done right every time. We've started out with young pets, have brought in foster/rescues for emergency checkups and microchip scanning, and have had senior pet care and final services. All situations have resulted in great experiences and the kindest, most knowledgeable care, without overcharging us for services or medications.Dr. Jensen is amazing, and the rest of the staff are professional, caring, and accommodating. Expensive !  I knew there was going to be trouble when they replaced their melamine counter tops with granite and my pocketbook was going to feel it.  I realize it's difficult to diagnose animals as they can't tell you what's wrong and at times it can be a guessing game, but this crowd at Atascazoo seems to guess more than others.  And then charge you an arm and a leg for it.  I stopped coming here mostly because the one waiting room we were in had toenails, fur and something wet on the floor. I don't need my animals picking up anything from other possibly sick animals.  If this were a cheaper clinic I May forgive that, but it's not and they can afford to clean up after each client.   Now I drive across the lake. The care provided at this clinic is adequate. If you are looking for a individualized, and informative experience look elsewhere. My dog is well fed, routinely vaccinated, goes to doggy daycare, has her teeth cleaned, and is in great health. Despite this fact, the staff at the clinic repeatedly asked me, "Is this your first dog?" To me this implied they felt that I was not taking care of my pet correctly, which I took great offense to. I do ask a lot of questions because I like to be well informed, but do not consider this to mean I am not correctly caring for my dog.The exam procedure is very impersonal, and ineffective. I brought my dog in for a checkup because she had been having some tummy troubles. The vet tech came in, and I explained the symptoms. She left, communicated them to the vet (I could hear everything going on behind the door), returned and took my dog in the back for the exam. I was not allowed to be present during the routine exam (no blood was being drawn, no tests being done). I have never experienced this at another clinic, and did not like it. After the exam was complete, the vet tech came a told me what they believed the issue was (once again I could here the vet behind the door teller her everything). The vet tech was not able to adequately answer my questions, and the vet was unavailable for questioning. This would be like paying full price to see your primary care physician, and only being able to talk to the nurse! Read Less

I have been to this clinic one time and had ONE GREAT EXPERIENCE.  It was just a few weeks ago in fact.  The reason I came to use them this one time, is because I learned that they were open all day Saturday and Sunday!  Hard to find that here, if not impossible.  I went in around 1pm this particular Saturday with my puppy.  Although I had to wait a little over an hour, which they informed me it could be up to 3 hours, was perfectly fine with me.  The staff was very friendly, and very good about keeping me updated about what was going on there, and about how much longer my wait would be.  At any time I was free to leave if I couldn't wait.  I actually found a couple of people enjoyable to talk to there who were having to wait as well.  When I did get in, Dr. Gretchen Jensen was the vet that we saw.  She was very, very nice and explained things very well to me.  Being that at this point I was definitely into an after hours scenario (if you compare it to there are basically no other vets open on weekend afternoons, except the emergency clinic at this time)...I was expecting a charge that might rival 3-4 times what an appointment would cost on regular weekdays.  I never asked them their charging policy, and quite frankly, in the moment...I didn't care.  It was about getting my pup checked out for a potential problem.  When I left, my bill was a "whopping" $46!!   I would have expected it to be $100 - $150!  With this $46 we also got a month's supply of heartworm medication, a toothbrush and toothpaste for my pup, and can of special diet dog food in case we needed it!  Not only was the charge a very pleasant SHOCK, but honestly, this clinic was the friendliest, calmest and seemingly VERY WELL ORGANIZED AND RUN that I had ever encountered.  It has certainly given me cause to consider moving our pets over to this clinic on a permanent basis.  At minimum, I will certainly not hesitate to use them on the weekends if need be!!  GREAT EXPERIENCE!!!!!!!!!!

So he decided to go ahead and wait but other clients with appointments came in did not even get a chance to sit when they were being called back. When the receptionist told that assistant "What about them? They have been here a while. " the assisant mumbled something and walked off. I work in an oftice sitting with humans not pets and to me that is very unprofessional. If they would have been up front that the wait can be up to 5 hours ut would of been ok at least we would of known but not to say anything is beyond me.
