Not the best. My dog was misdiagnosed for 2 years with eye issues. Finally decided to find a new Vet and voila! It’s allergies and referred me to a specialist who gave me drops and no issues since. Love the staff! Most places just want your money and done! But they genuinely care about your pet. I 100% recommend anyone and everyone here! I use to go to pet-smart for my dogs hair cut and when I would get him he’d be trembling and quiet. Once I came here they instantly tried to get his confidence and I knew it was different! I am very impressed with the highest quality of care provided by Animal Hospital of Valley Ranch. All associates, including appointment desk representatives are extremely friendly, nice and polite. From the moment you enter the hospital, you fell welcomed and are treated with respect and friendly approach. Doctor is extremely nice, animal lover, very knowledgeable and an excellent clinician. My dog has been treated by another veterinary doctor with no improvements. The first day, after the visit, injection and medication prescribed, my dog’s symptoms improved the next day! This is the best animal hospital in the area. The staff is always professional and helpful. I appreciate the fact that the appointment time is when you actually get to see the doctor. I've been coming to this vet for several years. The front desk ladies are very nice and helpful. If I've ever had any concerns, they always call and follow up after my visit. Dr Chaikin is awesome, my favorite vet ever. He is very factual and always gives great advice if I'm concerned about something. He's great with my 10 year old boxer Jack. My wife and I had somewhat of an emergency just recently with a couple of our cats and we visited this veterinary clinic for help. They were the only clinic open on the day we needed assistance. First off, the office staff is wonderful and very helpful. Dr. Chaikin is an excellent veterinarian and my impression is that he simply is all about getting the problem diagnosed so that he can offer assistance asap. I've read the other reviews about his "bedside manner" and yes he's matter-of-fact, but so what? He's a great doctor with a tremendous amount of skill and knowledge and he knows what he's doing -- his diagnosis of both our cats was spot-on. One cat had severe diarrhea and he took a sample and diagnosed it for parasites right then and there, no waiting. He's fees were very reasonable. We will be using him on a regular basis from now on. I have been taking most of my rescued foster dogs to AHVR since at least 2013, and I couldn't be happier with their service, expertise and skills. The front desk staff are compassionate, kind, and patient with all the dogs I've brought in, even the most skittish ones who've spent most of their lives on the street, and they never hesitate to take in a new foster as long as they have room (and they always seem to find room!). I pay out of my own pocket for all of my rescue dogs and am happy to do so because this clinic's rates are very reasonable and worth every penny for all the care that the pups receive. Great, clean, and secure outdoor play area, good trainer, and just overall a very clean facility. I'm so happy I found these good folks when I first went looking for a reliable vet and staff for my rescues, and I'm lucky that they're right here in Irving! Highly recommended. Read Less

I took my kitten for its initial shots /checkup, and the process was so easy. Im a first time pet owner, and so initially I was nervous and unsure of what to expect. The receptionists were really nice and helpful and acknowledged me and my pet warmly. I also love that they have two adult cats walking around, it helped put my kitten at ease IMO. Read Less

We took our dog Daisy there and the entire staff was so compassionate and caring. Daisy was 12 and very sick, but they did every thing possible to save her. What's best is I just got a hand written card from the Doctor expressing his sympathy for her passing with a small clipping of her fur inside. It brought me to tears. This is the second time we have taken our mini dachshund to the clinic. We have had good experiences both time. The vet answers our questions- no matter how many we have or how stupid we think they are. He is to the point without a lot of chit chat but he does his job well. The receptionist that we had this time was not as friendly as the last but we were still able to get in and out in a timely manner and feel that our dog was well cared for. We have not tried boarding her here yet but when/if we do, will review it as well! Read Less

We adopted a sweet dog from the animal shelter. He needed a hair cut, so we took him to animal hospital of valley ranch. The groomer lady was so sweet and so patient. She was so worried about how nervous my dog was, she wanted me back there with her so I could talk to my dog, and calm him while she cut. She doesn't like to muzzle dogs. She is extremely tender with the animals from what I could see. After my pup had a hair cut, the vet did a check up on him to make sure he was in good health. The vet was very nice, answered all of my questions and he was very nice to my pup too. And we can't forget the gals up front at the reception desk! Those lady's are a hoot! They were sweet and smiled a lot. They didn't just sit there and ignore me. They made small talk with me while I waited for my pup to go back. I took my cat, Patches (aka Patti) to Dr. Chaikin last September, expecting I was not bringing her home. She was experiencing incontinence. After diagnosis and placing her on KD cat food, things marginally improved. Unfortunately, age took its toll, so I made "the" appointment I had dreaded, on 2/15/16. Dr. Chaikin understood how hard it was for me and gave me reassurance I was doing best for her. I, too, got a beautiful sympathy card, with tufts of Patti's soft fur inside. I was really happy to find a vet that excepted the SNYP coupon. THe office people are great. I did not get to meet with the vet but have been told he lacked charisma. I am so blessed with where I usually go except they do not except the coupons. I am not sure it saved me a lot on money but my dog is spayed. I have good blood work up. and all is well. This will probably be my last pet since I am 71 and my husband has Alzheimer's.But I have loved every animal I have had. Loved the receptionist.Read Less

I had a minor emergency, scheduled the appointment, went in and what a disappointment. First, office staff were rude and not answering my questions, but I decided to ignore that, HOWEVER, then I met the Vet and OMG, what an ATTITUDE! I did not like how he treated my dog and us humans for that matter. He handled my injured dog very aggressively so I got a bad feeling and asked my husband to go to the back and ask to observe the procedure (because he too got a bad vibe) and the Vet was not accommodating, he said my husband could not watch and apologized for not handling my dog correctly, my husband then asked if he could take the dog back and we left. If you have a senior pet with multiple health issues and lots of questions, I would not recommend going here. yesterday one of my dogs was there for a follow up visit for which I was given inaccurate information about by the staff, so it started out not good and got worse from there. He said he couldn't feel her bladder and could not get a urine sample, sent me outside with a tech trying to put a huge container about as big as my dog for her too pee in!! really ?? I did not get all my questions resolved as I told him my dog was limping - he would not listen when I tried explaining she had been treated last year for Lyme disease .. Think that he would listen - he put her on the table and felt her legs and paws and said nothing is wrong with her. She is limping worse today, but nothing is wrong with her ! I will have her treated elsewhere where I can ask questions and talk about my senior pets issues - not at this place- I'm sorryRead Less

Dr. Chaikin has cared for our dog for about 8 years. He is completely devoted to his practice. He draws his own labs, cuts our dog's nails and cares for every detail. This level of care is not found in most practices. He is extremely knowledgable. He has managed our dog's heart failure for two years and so far our pet is doing excellent.
