So happy we found a good vet in Killeen. Took our kitty here. He had a limp and i had never taken him to a vet before since we adopted him. The lady made him feel so safe and gave him so many treats and pets. My little kitty was a happy boy for his first vet visit and hopefully we got his limp figured out. I told her I was very money conscious since we are a military family with our first baby one the way, and she made sure the doctor knew that we only wanted necessary procedures done. And she gave me prices as we went along. Surprisingly came out Very cheap! I have been meaning to write this review. Went here for about 2 years while my husband and I were stationed in Fort Hood. This is by far the best veterinarian clinic I have ever seen and been to. Everyone is very friendly, answers questions, and never hides anything when it comes to prices which I appreciate. We always had our dogs groomed here, they had several surgeries and teeth cleanings; again, results were all fantastic! Compared to other clinics I have been to, they are very affordable, which was a big relief, especially when there was an emergency with my dogs. Every person here knows their profession so well, that's something I could tell from the very beginning. They were the only place open on NYE. Our dog had split a nail late the night before. We did have to wait a while, but again, they were doing us a huge favor. They had Bruce Wayne all fixed up. Dr. Joyner has always been great to my fur babies. I have called several times just to clarify instructions or if my pups develop a problem after a procedure and he is always very informative and happy to answer all of my questions over the phone. I can tell he truly cares about my babies (both are very old and are starting to have a few health problems). The wait time can be a little long, but then again I'm always running late or they have to work me in for an urgent visit. The grooming is awesome, it's cheaper than most places and better quality. And if your pup is due for shots it's more convenient. I have tried a couple of places here in Killeen and will never go to another. The facility is nicer, cleaner, and the staff is more friendly. Been taking my pets there for years and have spent thousands on their care. My dog required extra care with expensive meds that were running around $300 a month.Found online that I could get the exact same meds from a reputable Pet Pharmacy at much less and save around $120.00 a month and ordered from them. After a week of not receiving the meds I contacted the pharmacy. They indicated that Dr. Joyner denied the script with no explanation. I contacted East Lake Vet and was told Dr. Joyner was out. Asked that they give him the message to contact me (or someone from the office) as to why it was denied and why I did not receive a phone call that the script was going to be denied and that I thought it was unprofessional after all these years of being a client that I was not contacted. I even told them that I would continue regular care/visits or buy the meds from him if he would lower his price as the mark-up, we all know is huge for pet meds. This whole week has passed and no word/no response. So after research I found another Vet who is willing to work with me.I am disappointed, but realize that had he been a caring vet, I would have gotten some response, explanation or a willingness to work with me. I brought in my sugar glider here to be neutered, as recommended by the lady I got him from, and they did a great job at his neuter. However, upon playing with my boy I noticed that two of his nails we tiny and black, which is not normal, they looked dead. I called them the next morning inquiring when I could bring him in to get checked as I had him in there the day before for a check up on his neuter. The vet that worked on him called me back within the next hour and stated that when they trimmed his nails for the neuter, when they were removing him from his pouch he 'pulled off' two nails and the cauterized them to stop the bleeding. I was never told about this, and they shouldn't of have to forcibly remove him from the pouch to the point two nails were ripped off. I'm not sure they will ever grow back even though the vet said they would. Before I left from picking him up after getting him neutered I asked if the trimmed his nails and the tech said yes. That was enough of an opportunity to tell me what had happened. Because of this I will never bring him back there. The staff is very nice and so was his vet but that is unacceptable. I took my sugar glider there and within 10minites of leaving he died! He was sick when I went in but still up and alert and responded to his name and still gave kisses. He went in the back to get some IV fluids because he was dehydrated, and when he came back out he was in severe pain and he passed away within 10minutes of leaving. This was my second trip to this vet and I will never return. My first visit was a few years ago I took my rescue pup in for shots and I was told my dog would never walk normal and that he needed braces on his legs! I left and went to Aztec for a second opinion and basically the vet at East Lake is bull of crap. My rescue is now 3 years old and has never ever needed any help with his legs and he is the most bouncy playful dog I have ever owned. I hate this place and will never ever return! I had been taking my dogs there for abt a year. EVERY time I went I was pestered incessantly abt getting my dog on heartworm medicines, even though its an inside dog. OK so finally after the vet assistant tech coming in the room with the white smock coat and clipboard trying to exude some sort of professionalism and authoritative presence , (which was quite humorous because she looks abt 12 years old ) , she then began spewing her sales pitch, abt the heartworm preventative medicine. The focus did not seem to be abt the current problem my dog was having, It seemed like first things first was to try and get the dog on some prescription heartworm meds. .Meanwhile The dog is suffering, and has been scratching so bad, that his balls are rawhis eyes are bloodshot, , and all they want to talk abt is heartworms. . So finally I asked, if I got the dog tested for heartworms, would they write a RX for Heartgard that I could take to 1800 pet meds,. or another discount pet medicine provider... I was told OH NO, we only write RX if you get the hearthgard from us . I found that to be quite odd. If thier real concern is for my dogs well being, why try and control where I buy the meds from, ?? At that time, I just decided to not get the RX. Just because I didnt like thier prescription policy. OK, so the next appt I have with my dog, here comes Mrs clipboard, white smock, and sales pitch again, pestering the hell out of me abt heartworm medicine. So finally I agree just to get her to quit pestering me . It was either that or stand up, and scream in her ear, WHAT PART OF NO DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND.????? ARE YOU MENTALLY RETARDED OR DO YOU JUST NOT CARE ABT WHAT MY WISHES ARE? . Now before they would write a RX they had to do a heartworm test. The test was done, and the vet tech comes in and very lacadaisically tells me my dog has heartworms. I was given a quote for abt 1500.00 to treat the heartworms. I went home, thought about it, and my gut instinct told me something was not right. The following reasons are why. 1 They did not handle my dog in a caring gentle manner, and seemed to be more focused on getting blood from him , no interaction, petting, calming ect. My Dog was stressed and they didnt seem to care, it was all business. . (2) They pestered the hell out of me to get my dog tested for heartworms, but would not write a RX unless I bought the meds from them., (3) They had the vet tech tell me the dog was heartworm positive. ( I would think the veternerian would come in and announce something so serious). (4) The above facts, accumulatively made me very suspicious. So I went to another Veternarian, and had him retested....... NEGATIVE.. To make sure she then sent a second sample to austin for a 100 percent accuracy test, to make absolutely certain, without a doubt that the test was accurate. Again....... , the heartworm test was NEGATIVE. !!!!!!! I would HIGHLY recommend that if your dog test positive for heartworms at East Lake , you get a retest somewhere else. Something else that irked me also was when my dog would be in the lobby, sometimes due to excitement or nerves, he would have a bowel movement., I would ask the receptionist if they had a paper towel or something to clean it up and they sit there talking to each other, acting like they dont hear you. They must be afraid someone is going to ask them to clean it up. So after being ignored, I went into the restroom, found some toilet paper, and picked up the turds. As I was walking back to the bathroom to dispose of the turds, the secretary sat up off her chair just enough to peek over the counter to see if the mess was cleaned up,. then went back to acting like she was in deep conversation with the other secretary. I guess they think people dont notice things like that, but I sure do. We didnt want them to clean up the mess our dog made, just provide a paper towel or tissue, but they immediately tuned us out, to make sure they didnt have to scoop a turd. .Read Less

We recently decided that our Lab, Bella, was possibly pregnant. After calling several different vets in the area I cam across this one, they had the best price to get her checked out to see. The front desk ladies were super friendly even though it was a Friday afternoon with several people there and many noisy animals. Lisabeth was our nurse and she was amazing!!!! She was on top of everything and answered all my questions that I had, plus much needed information. Dr. Joyner was amazing as well! Very nice, down to earth man, Bella warmed up to both of them very fast! He examined her and immediately knew she was pregnant! She got her shots and I was given lots of advice for the (possibly) two little pups in her! The facility was very very clean and well managed. They had a great variety of information booklets and other things for healthy pets! They even gave me price ranges for the puppies for their care as well! Very much recommended!! Read Less

The first time I brought my little puppy in the facility the front desk ladies were extremely nice. After, the first time it progressively got worse. There the rudes individuals. My Dog has kennel cough and I called the doctor to see if I can get some information about it and she said I'll call you back at 5:00pm and its 4:30pm when I called. I said okay ma'am. After the time passed I decided to walk in the vet at 5:28pm because I didn't get a call. I opened the door to the facility and they said hello were closed its 5:30pm. I said ma'am I called you to get some information about kennel cough and she says "oh yeah I forgot you called hahaha" I can't explain to you how disrespectful and inappropriate the ladies are there. Don't endanger your pet to this clinic.  Despite a few horrifying reviews I trusted a recommendation to bring my senior cat, 15yrs, in for a dental cleaning. She was in great health, vaccinated and energetic. Blood tests cost around $200 pre dental, typical, and the first vet, female, was very polite. We were given antibiotics for my cat to take before the surgery. 48hrs later shes vomiting with diarrhea at least once an hour all over the apartment! She wont eat, she hasn't gotten into anything outside and her food was not recently changed, grain free.After getting through the weekend my husband takes my cat to East Lake to let them know what happened with the antibiotics they prescribed, I had to work. A different vet, male, assured my husband that not only would they need to do $200 worth of more tests but she suddenly has liver issues (since the test 3 days ago) and needs medicine, special Science diet food and possibly more tests in a week. $400 total. I called to dispute this after and the vet maintained it couldn't possibly be the ZydaClin and refused to refund any of the fees. The side effects are exactly what my cat experienced. My cat started eating normally again after a week and thankfully is okay now. I cancelled my dental cleaning and the receptionist was empathetic but obviously not in the position to help. My terrier mix was recently attacked by our neighbors pitbull in our own back yard. This Vet clinic was the closest to our house when it happened. We really thought our dog would not be able to be saved, but thanks to this clinic he is perfectly fine and acting like he always did. Thanks to this clinic my little sweet heart was saved. When we got to the clinic they rushed him to the back and saved his life. He had over 100 stables and internal trauma but they were able to save his life. They kept us up to speed as they worked on him and really seemed to care. One of the staff even offered to stay with him threw the night to make sure he was OK. I love this clinic and the people who work their, Thank you for saving my dogs life. I was also surprised how inexpensive it was based of what they had to do to save him. Diagnosed my dogs glaucoma as "a scratch or he got sprayed with mace." 2 follow ups got us eye drops and $400 in fees. 1 trip to emancipet and we were referred to a specialist "immediately" in the vets words. They were treating my dog for heart failure and put her on Lasix and another medication,no problem. A few months later my dog is nauseated,not eating,lethargic,confused and dehydrated. Take her in to see Dr. Joyner and he checks her out,tells me she's dehydrated and they run blood work. Now he already said she was dehydrated and he  orders blood work but does he have her kidneys checked? Heck no! He gives me some medication for her stomach and says if that doesn't work come back and we'll run more tests. I even told him I didn't believe it was stomach problems. Two days later she's worse so I go to a vet I used previously. I tell her the symptoms and that I had been at East Lake Vet two days earlier. The first thing she asks is if they ran blood work and had her kidneys checked? I tell her they did not check her kidneys and her jaw about fell to the floor! Fast forward this Dr. knows what she's doing and checked my dogs kidneys right away and she lets me know my dog's kidneys are failing quick! WTF? She gives my little baby a few days but the quality of those days won't be good and I can tell she's going downhill quick. Unfortunately I had her put down so she wouldn't suffer her last few days. I've been bringing my 4 Furkids in the last year with no issues. I'm been supper pleased and the wait times haven't been horrible. We recently adopted a pup and he came down with Parvo they are treating him in clinic as I type this. I brought him in Saturday and he's still alive and we are very hopeful he'll pull through and even if he doesn't survive the parvo, I still feel very confident in their ability to provide my other 4 with affordable quality care and will continue using them. My only frustration was that I paid $940 upfront no questions and since I had to leave him on Saturday, that maybe the tech in charge of weekend care would have at least take an extra 1-2 minutes to call me on Saturday evening or even on Sunday and give me follow up on him, but nothing... My family was in pure agony the last 48 hours not knowing if our baby survived! I was so besides myself this morning when I went to the office I immediately broke down. But, I whole heartedly want to believe that it was an honest mistake and easily corrected. Read Less

East Lake is truly the best care center we have experienced. They truly treat your pets like family. I wasn't happy about my experience at this vet clinic. My dog has severe vet fears. He has had it for his whole life. My dog as usual tried to bite the vet and was very scared for his annual shots. The vet threw my dog on the table hitting his head and put all this weight on him. I couldn't believe a vet professional would treat my dog like that. I will never go back to this vet clinic. I've been taking my dogs here for many years before it was renovated, and the reason I stopped going (before the renovation) was due to the fact that the receptionists were unwelcoming, appeared to hate life and their job.  Also, they sent me a letter trying to charge $5 for a procedure after I already paid the front desk in full and walked off with my dogs.  I've literally spent hundreds of dollars throughout the years, and their letter threatened to pass it on to collections.  Why didn't they charge me for it then? 5 silly dollars.  Well, it was enough to have me looking elsewhere...Fast forward to now:  I elected to have my new APBT's ears cropped and unfortunately, my current vet didn't provide that service and couldn't refer me to anyone that he knew that did.  I had an APBT before and remembered that Dr. Joyner did an amazing job, but was very reluctant to go back to East Lake because of my experience with the receptionists.  Well, I just sucked it up and scheduled an appointment for a consultation.Walking in, I was amazed at how well the place was remodeled.  I was also really relieved to see that the old and cranky receptionists weren't there anymore.  The new receptionists were warm and inviting, which was really nice.  I'm not going to bore everyone with details of every visit thereafter, so I'll just hit all the highlights:// Receptionists:  Very friendly, welcoming, and attentive.  Thank you, ladies!// Wait time:  HORRIBLE.  I've waited up to 45 min to be seen for my appointments.  When my puppy was due for pickup after his surgery, they had me wait 30+ min in the lobby and then another 1hr and 30 min in the exam room with absolutely no explanation or apology.  Frustrated, my boyfriend went back to the front desk because we thought we were forgotten about in there.  Unacceptable.  After complaining, they brought out our puppy soon after, which leads me to believe that they really did forget about us.// Vet Techs:  This was a mixed bag with each appointment.  Be prepared to spend WAY more time with the vet techs than the actual veterinarian.  The young blonde female (can't remember her name) was just a joy to be around because she was always friendly.  I wish I got her all the time.  Unfortunately, there were two other female vet techs that had a militant, unfriendly attitude and acted as if they were the veterinarian by the way they performed their assessments and questioning.  // Dr. Joyner:  You will only see very little of him in the exam room.  Expect lots of awkward silence gaps in conversation because he is a man of few words.  What a waste of my time.  Meh...
