I have been to many vets over the years and I can say without bias that both Dr Leyendecker and Dr Wilmeth are the best vets I have ever met. Not only are they both extremely proficient in their field, but they are also caring for their patients (pets) and the pet owners. They have always done great work for my dog. I have also seen them work themselves to the bone and still have take the time to go above and beyond for their clients, even offering caring consolation when nothing more can be done. I have been taking my dog in to Critter Care for the past 2 years, and everyone there has been very helpful in the past. Today, my mom took her to get spayed and she told me to check the price on everything and to double check the form she had to sign. After calling and reviewing everything, I asked if it was still ok to pick her up on the same day of the procedure, because I requested that pick up be the same day. Since I know some clinics allow it. I was placed on a hold and after a few minutes the vet came to the phone and I don't know who it was because you didn't give me name you just asked, "For Luna Bear". Whoever you were was very rude. You raised your voice and I get that you have a way of doing things at your clinic and have a busy day, but this is why I called 2 weeks ago to ask these questions so we BOTH didn't have to waste our time speaking with one another. This is MY dog that I am entrusting to you and I have every right to ask these questions. If they had been very clear with me when I first called I would not have taken her there and had to deal with this. You threw your experience in my face. Ma'am, I didn't ask you for your biography, weaknesses and success. I asked a simple question that I had every right to get an answer for. I know that you all are good vets or why else would I take my dog there? You are a vet and you have to deal with pets and their owners. I'm sorry that you had to take time away from your busy schedule for a concerned paying customer. I'm not asking for an apology. I'm asking that you treat people like people. I did not raise my voice at you once and despite being very upset and taking in all your information I still spoke to you with respect and that is all I expected back. Worst customer service I waited 2 1/2 hours just to get a progestrone test because the technician forgot I was in the exam room and the best they did only offer me a 17 dlls discount on top of that ridiculous prices for the service they offer don't see the point of having an appointment if they aren't going to see your pet at that time. Best place in town to get care for your pet. I wanted to do a quick edit, as my doggies and I will be relocating next week. I have brought all 3 of my dogs here for 8yrs. The have been here for sickness, shots,boarding, and then some. I could not have found a better vet in Texas. Dr.L is very considerate and truly cares for all animals. I brought my 17 month old English bulldog puppy, Baby to this clinic on January 17th, 2017. She had been hit by a city sanitation truck about 15 minutes prior to our arrival. She was still breathing and conscious after being struck. When we got there they immediately took her to the back while we waited in the waiting room. I was severely distressed and crying, as any dog owner who had to witness something like that would be. The doctor came out not even 2 minutes later and brought us back into a room and asked us what happened, then told us she was dead and there was nothing they could do. They didn't give me even 5 minutes to decide what I wanted done with her body, and when I asked to see her one last time, they took me into a room and she was already wrapped in a black garbage bag and put into a cardboard box. The doctor asked several times for my parents, and when I said I was the owner, and that I was 18 years old, she told me to grow up and make a decision on what I wanted done with her body, that she was just a dog and that I was 18 years old already. I wasn't even at this clinic longer than 15 minutes when I had to leave without my Baby. They then took 23 days to return her ashes, which came in a ziplock bag inside a wooden box, and I paid for them on January 18, 2017. I had to contact them twice because they never made an effort to contact me themselves after January 17th. This doctor was very rude and inconsiderate, and didn't do anything to save my puppy. They do not care about the welfare of your pets, but only how much money they can make off of your visit. I wouldn't recommend this clinic to any loving pet owner. Read Less

We own several pets and take very good care of them as well as attending to their Medicial needs. Called Critter Care to have the stray cat I found and adopted spayed as all responsible pet owners should do to help with the number of stray cats starving in the streets. I also had her declawed. Before making the appointment I asked for a summary of charges. I verified with the person on the phone 3 times as well as the office girl when I dropped her off about the charges and was told that the bill would be $200.00-$250.00. When my husband picked up the cat the next day the bill was $436.00. Needless to say he was very unhappy. I don't mind paying for services for my pets but I don't appreciate being charged double with no explanation why. My advice get a written verification of charges and services ahead of time. That's what I will do if I ever take a pet back there which is unlikely. I want to update my review of Critter Care and Dr Lyendecker.from 1 star to 5 stars. I received a call from Dr L after she saw my review to discuss my poor opinion of Critter Care. I was very impressed that she took the time to call me personally to discuss my issues. It appeared that there was a miscommunication with the office staff that she assured me she would correct. The problem was resolved to the satisfaction of both of us. My experiences with Critter Care have been absolutely wonderful. Initially, I was quite skeptical as I had read a million terrible reviews about them. The veterinarian who first assisted my late dog, Lucy, was Dr. Fruge. He was a really nice guy. He walked me through everything and answered every question. My second experience was a few years later when Lucy developed pyometra. This time, I was assisted by Dr. Lyendecker herself. She's a tell-it-like-it-is kind of woman and was slightly cold, but otherwise professional. Again, she walked me through everything and answered my questions and concerns. Plus, she saved my dog's life. Lucy passed away in August, but that was related to something entirely different. If it had not been so sudden, I would've taken her back to CC. Thanks, guys! Every year we take a big long trip to Mexico and having been so excited to finally leave, I overlooked a very important task and that was making sure we had an international travel certificate for our furry baby. I called Critter Care while driving across the country and they were very helpful. They encouraged me to walk in and I do so the very next day. The office is just off of a big highway and it was easy to find. The ladies in reception were very nice and answered all my questions. Despite the fact that the room was filled with walk-ins, the wait was acceptable. Actually, it was faster than expected. They have a lot of staff at the office. Our vet was Dr. Gaylon Wilmeth and wow, I was very pleased with her. She was very nice and looked at our fur baby with lots of love and care. She informed of what to look for, tips and she checked him over a number of times to make sure everything was ok.They were able to provide me the certificate within minutes and the price was very affordable. I personally Love Dr. L!!! She has one of the best prices! I called another vet clinic and asked how much it would be to get my litter of kittens checked and they said it might be $30 each or he will only charge me for one kitten. Pretty much that vet will change the prices depending if he wanted a new TV or not!!!! Then I went to another vet who charged me $150 just for a shot because my cat was "dehydrated" One shot!!!! The only reason I went to the other vets was because Dr. L was closed! I also really love how she cares about the animals. She remembers all of my cats names and always ask about them and makes sure they're up to date to everything and she handles my cats with care and doesn't throw them around. Another vet I went to an old man came in and his dog had a seizure, it was very sad because the man didn't know what was going on and the staff didn't do anything and ignored him. He just stood there looking scared then they finally took his dog and he kept asking what was going on and they never answered so he just left. I bet if he went to Dr. L they could have handled that situation better. I even cried it was so bad. It's also a friendly environment, I feel like she's an aunt I visits once in awhile for help. Last night my puppy was very sick, she had chewed on a sago palm tree seed, which are very toxic. I tried calling every Veterinarian in Laredo but everyone was closed. I then contacted my friend Mary, which connected me to this wonderful young lady named Jamie. Well to make a long story short, they saved my fur baby's life. Even though it was after hours, the veterinarian technician as well as the Veterinarian left their family's to come and care for my Puppy. My initial reaction to Critter Care was good, the staff was nice. However making an appointment and waiting more than 30 minutes to get called in was too long. There was no one in front of me, or any animal needing immediate medical attention. Not everyone that goes into your clinic may be knowledgeable, however after some quick research my findings were that your veterinary skills were very off. The young veterinarian was unable to properly diagnose my dogs ear issue, because no ear swab of the ear canal was done. Even with in ear optics on a TV screen, it is not enough to diagnose a bacterial infection without a sample of the ear canal to be viewed under a microscope. To see if its an actual bacterial infection, parasitic, or other form of non bacterial infection or disease. So prescribing Mometamax which only treats bacterial infections was not only wrong but neglectful of a license veterinarian. This could have lead to a worse ear problem if he even has one at all. I'm sorry but nice staff is not enough to warrant a revisit of your clinic. It was a choice to try it out. The initial reaction was nice, but after research the neglectful care of my dog was without warrant. Read Less

Critter Care has cared for 5 of my fur babies and I wouldn't take them anywhere else. I am SO pleased with the care my cat has received at Critter Care. He was sick and grumpy and can be quite aggressive, but the staff was so patient and kind. Dr. Wilmuth took the time to really listen to all the symptoms, asked great questions and explained everything she was about to do. She explained all the diagnostics before she did them and what they should tell us, went over the results thoroughly, allowed me to ask endless questions, both told me AND showed me how to administer the medication and what to look for. The attention is always good and they do their job fine; today I called and came without appointment because they told me over the phone that if we get here before 5:30pm is fine and the fee is like a regular consult, after that time it will be an emergency... So we got here before, and After 30 min there, they tell me that if they pass us in after 6:00pm it will be an emergency consult. So what happened to the "before 5:30pm"? Took my puppy (lab) of three months to Critter Care since he was very sick, they ran some test and informed me it was parvo, the vet was not there at the time, but the staff was very helpful and friendly with all my questions concerning my dog. I got him hospitalized and was informed he made a full recovery!! The vet was amazing and answered all my questions and concerns regarding my dog and parvo. Though the wait time is a bit longer, they were able to see my dog in orderly fashion and help him out. Dr. Leyendecker and her team have provided excellent care to a wide array of animals -- from hamsters to horses and everything in between. I have seen her firsthand handle some very complex cases with amazing professionalism. She will also refer patients to specialists outside Laredo, as needed. I have lived in many cities and can say that Dr. L. ranks amongst the finest doctors I have had the privilege to know. That being said, we are all human and I would suggest, reading some reviews, that anyone who has any issues with her, her staff, or her care of the patients in her charge please discuss it with her. She is an exceptionally dedicated vet and works very hard to put her patients first. Laredo has very few vets for the population that is being served. Almost 5 years ago, I had a dog falsely diagnosed with heartworms (despite my dog looking and acting healthy) by Leyendecker. She and her staff were rude, and I feel she purposely diagnosed my dog with heartworms, in order to charge more money for treatment. I went ahead with treatment.
