One of the absolute worst experiences you could ask for as a devastated pet owner. After our dog passing at home she was brought to vca for cremation services. We paid the additional fee for her paw print as that is something we desperately wanted to have of hers to remember her by. We picked up the box tonight to only find her ashes and no paw print. We called VCA and they “misplaced” her paw print. Absolutely nothing that can be done but just refund the money for the paw print. Nothing else was offered to make up for this huge mistake. This is not the first poor experience we have had here but convenience to our home brought us back. We will never use vca again and I strongly encourage anyone who cares about their fur baby to go elsewhere. They do not care here about their patients nor the owners. We are heartbroken tonight because of vca’s negligence. Read Less

From my visit in 2012. I just had to take my yellow lab of 12 and half years here to have him put to sleep because of how bad he was doing. I had some hope he could be saved, and they did everything they could on him, and never once did they try to put upon us that he should be put down as has happened in the past to us with other animals. Unfortunately when I walked back to see him he had only gotten worse, despite being on oxygen. So we decided to put him to sleep. They were very professional, and the price was higher than a regular vet, but it was 2 in the morning and an emergency clinic so that is expected. Overall I highly recommend them. Read Less

My 10 lb terrier had a very bad fall in the evening after his regular vet clinic was closed. VCA saw him immediately, and they were friendly and compassionate. Dr. Head checked him thoroughly, and even went so far as to consult with his regular vet. Assured that my dog would be seeing his regular vet the next day and getting a full round of tests, Dr Head released him and told me what to watch for so that I could bring him right back if necessary. Emergency vet hospitals are very expensive by necessity. If they had run the blood tests my regular vet would be running the next day it would’ve cost a small fortune! It did take a long time to be seen, which is ok except no one was doing triage and checking for patients that may need to be seen right away. This is unusual for an ER vet in my opinion. Also, take home instructions were incomplete (no duration for medication to be administered). This clinic is in a much better part of town. The clinic is clean and the staff is friendly. I have received calls several times a day from the doctors and the technician taking care of my little guy. I was even told that we could go in and visit with him while he was in their care. Not very many veterinary clinics would allow that. Expect to pay a hefty price for ER services. That should be a given. They aren’t going to take care of your pet for free. Read Less

I should start by saying that they took care of my dog just fine. However, the vet, Dr. Head, was incredibly inappropriate. He continually made sexually suggestive "jokes" and remarks. For context, my dog had swallowed a pair of underwear, so I was at the vet to induce vomiting. He came out to the waiting room and kept talking about underwear. At one point he looked at a man in the waiting room, assumed he was my father (he wasn't--I didn't even know him) and said, "I shouldn't say this if front of Dad, but if it were up to me, I'd say everyone should only wear thongs....because they come out of dogs easier, of course!" He was laughing the whole time. Then he told me about other women who have had this happen and told me about their sizes and how "even if you're a size six, it doesn't necessarily matter." Then, he recommended I go to a different vet for another procedure I'm considering (one of his friends, no doubt) because this vet was cheaper. He told me I could save about a thousand dollars, which, he told me would "buy a happy meal. Or, some new underwear" wink wink. While nothing he said was overly explicit, I was incredibly uncomfortable. He still had my dog in the back at this point, so I didn't feel like I could say that he was being inappropriate. Once he left, the other man in the waiting room even commented on how inappropriate Dr Head was being. He was not professional AT ALL and even when I, through body language, made it as clear as I could that he was making me uncomfortable, he just kept at it. Needless to say after all of this, if he is on duty, avoid this place. He was an early morning reminder that misogyny is alive and well. Read Less

Horrible! The vet was a quack. My dog was in pain and all he could talk about was how fat she is and how much weight HE lost recently! She's not even that fat! And I don't care how much weight you lost! None of the crap he told me made any sense. He didn't know I am a nurse and not completly ignorant. I know dogs aren't human but I assume the body functions somewhat the same. I told him to just give her some pain med and I took her to her regular Doc in the morning. Guess what jerk? It WAS her bladder....not her back! Then when I was waiting for my bill, my dog vomited. The clerk handed me a roll of paper towels. I just paid 200$ for a freaking pain shot, I'm the only one here, and you can't come help me! Seriously! Never again. Plan on paying double what you would normally pay for tests and procedures. The people who work here made an absolute horrible situation, tolerable. Without getting in to horrific details; our sweet pug had an accident & needed medical attention immediately. The staff was so kind over the phone & immediately cared for us when we came in to the clinic. During such a hard time, everyone was professional & extremely empathetic towards our situation. I had to make an unbearable decision to put our pug down but without the knowledge of the doctors here, I'm not sure I could have done it. They made everything as easy as it possibly could have been & we are so grateful. We highly recommend this place. Read Less

Our dog had his ear packed with medicine to treat an infection. This caused him to go deaf. Went in to have the ear irrigated hopefully to restore his hearing. Dr. Mureson criticized the ear being packed; told us he was not an audiologist and the dog was fine. When asked to irrigate the ear he told us to take him back to our family vet on Monday. His attitude was so arrogant I told him of my advanced degrees and was smart enough to know stupid when I experience it and he was stupid. Bottom line. Call ahead. If he is on duty seek care elsewhere. Personally, I would not allow him to treat my rubber duck! Read Less

i never write reviews but this was the worst experience ever. Took my dog in because she was in pain for a few days and it got unbearable for me to watch. Got to this emergency vet and I spent more time filling out paperwork than having my dog looked at. She was so scared to be there that she wasn't doing the funny things I had seen for a few days. So the vet thought she was perfectly fine. Flapped her ears a few times and wiggled her legs and let us sit there for 10 minutes waiting to see if she'd Yelp and that was it. Spent more time sitting then actually looking at my dog even though I tried to say something was wrong. We ended up leaving after they took almost 100 dollars from me first. She continued to be in pain after I got her home so I took her to another vet in the morning. She was scared then too and wasn't acting funny. But within five minutes of me explaining the exact symptoms I told the vet at the emergency room he found 2 different areas that weren't normal. Her back and legs. She indeed was in pain and it was easily noticeable when the vet actually checked her out. Anybody could've seen it if they looked. The people working there were very nice. But I'm disappointed that I was so scared for my dog and ended up leaving even more scared and down almost 100 dollars. I feel like the vet thought I was paranoid and over worrying when I definitely wasn't. I wouldn't have brought her in if something wasn't wrong. Especially knowing how much it costs. I wish more care was given to the animals and paying owners. Read Less

March 4th, 2016: Its unsettling when an ER VET trys to sell you a bill of goods that isnt needed. Beware of this office playing on your heart strings so they can charge you a high bill. Receptionist comes across as brash and heartless and either needs training or isnt following the training she received. My dog fell off a 3-story building and when I called she sounded inconvenienced and not apathetic. Then, when I got there, she said there was a 3-hour wait without triaging the dog. I had to have my friends beg the receptionist to have someone at least look at the dog. Fifteen minutes later, the receptionist took her to the back. Ten min later, the Vet Tech came out to tell me she had injured her three legs and that it would be several hours before she would be seen by the vet. I was going to go for a short walk to de-stress and asked if they would call me when they were ready but they wouldnt let me saying I had to be there in case the doctor had a question. Just about that time, I was told the doctor wanted to see us. She came in quickly and abruptly told us that she was in pain and asked for authorization to give pain meds which I provided. Then, she came back with 2 sheets of things they wanted to do and the cost totally almost $2,000. I stopped the Vet from reciting the list and asked if the dog had any signs of head trauma and she said no. Then I asked if she had signs of internal organ damage to which she said no. She told me my dog had multiple spinal injuries and that they needed to take 8 x-rays but would only charge for six. Then she proceeded to tell me that she would give anti-inflammatories and pain meds.I asked how they would give her anti-inflammatories when she was having kidney issues (common for a 13 year old dog). She had no idea of any of her existing diagnosis because no one had cared to ask. When I asked if it was common to discuss euthanasia given these injuries she said yes. So, why was the Vet trying to sell me on $2,000 worth of tests and meds when she knows a dog cant rehab from multiple spinal injuries? Its good to have an ER Vet. Its unsettling when they try to sell you a bill of goods that isnt needed. Beware of this office playing on your heart strings so they can charge you a high bill. Read Less

I can't tell you how helpful and kind these people are. They've helped me through a scare with my cat twice in one month. He wasn't passing urine and was in horrible pain both times I rushed him in. The first time I went at night, so it was very busy and there was only one person behind the desk, but she acknowledged and reassured every person who came in and got us through the process as quickly as she could. She was a younger girl and she was so compassionate, and very concerned for every animal she saw. The second time I came here it was early in the morning and I was the only one there. I got in much quicker (10 minutes) than the first time (30 minutes). This lady was also very understanding and helpful, was so good with Sammy and helped keep the both of us calm. Dr. Robles was a bit formal and to the point, but he knew his stuff and gave me many options for my cat's care. They don't pressure you into paying for procedures we don't need and are actually pretty affordable (compared to a human emergency room anyway). I wish the staff had their own daytime clinic, I would definitely want them working with Sammy if they could. Read Less

We went here just last night after we had a scare with our dog thinking he swallowed a battery. We brought him in and a tech very kindly had us have a seat in the lobby, which was big and clean to wait to be seen. There was another family there in front of us who lost their pet, and the staff were very were clearly doing their best to try to help them through such a difficult time. We were seen within thirty minutes of arriving. After checking our dog's vitals and inspecting his mouth, we were given our options and explained to up front that the cost for xrays was over $200 and that the odds of him having eaten the battery were very slim, especially since there were no signs of burns or the like in his mouth. There was also an option to induce vomiting, but she said since he wasn't showing any signs or behaving irregularly, it might be better to take him home to wait it out. Obviously, almost 250 dollars on top of the initial fee to have him seen was rather high given what we were being told, so we opted not to. Of course we were told that we could and should come back if the situation seemed to change at all. It's 24 hours later and our little guy is fine and doing well, happy as can be. I really appreciated the honesty and sincerity with which we were treated. We were obviously scared, and if these people had wanted to they could have swindled us out of loads of money for unnecessary treatment. But they treated us and our dog very well. I know that my mother and stepfather have also had good experiences here with their dogs, as this was where they recommended I should go if ever there was an emergency. I would highly recommend this facility and its staff if you ever have problems on the weekend. Read Less

My first experience ever with an animal ER was excellent. VCA League City TX took in my dog quickly and professionally. The doctor and staff there were super friendly and helpful.

Read Less
