Summer 2013 I took my poodle to Animal Medical Center for a physical. I told Dr. Polk, that my poodle's eyes were matting due to a yellow and green discharge that had a pungent odor. I also told the vet that the left eye appeared to be worse than the right. Dr. Polk explained that the discharge and matting were caused by allergies, NOT by an infection.I took my poodle in a second time and she was treated by Dr. Preston. Dr. Preston said that her matted eyes and the pungent green and yellow discharge were being caused by allergies. I told him, I thought it smelled infected, and he told me that smell was common with allergies. This continued until the following summer, summer of 2014. July 2014 I took my poodle in because she leaned her head down to eat, and began to squeal. I took her to Animal Medical Center the next day, and the vet on duty diagnosed her with Masticatory Myositis. The vet said he wasn't certain of the diagnosis, but began treating her for the aforementioned disease.I asked the vet if he could test my dog for Masticatory Myositis and he said he could not. After reviewing a pamphlet that he provided, I learned there was in fact a test that could be conducted. I asked the vet about the test, and he said he didn't know where to send the test, nor did he know how to interpret the results. My poodle's condition continued to worsen and her left eye, the one that had a green and yellow discharge that was attributed to allergies, began to swell because of an abscess behind the eye. Animal Medial Center treated her for a week, with no improvement, so I took my dog to another veterinarian at Live Oaks. When I arrived at Live Oaks I was greeted by a friendly staff, and upon examining my poodle Dr. Shelli Wolfe immediately diagnosed my poodle with a Retrobulbar Abscess. Dr. Wolfe explained that the abscess was caused by a systemic infection, NOT by the presence of foreign matter. Unlike the veterinarian at Animal Medical Center, Dr. Wolfe was certain of her diagnosis. Dr. Wolfe immediately sedated my poodle in order to drain the abscess. The abscess caused so much damage to the left eye, that the eye had to be removed. The abscess ruptured and the infection spread through my poodle's body.Dr. Wolfe treated her for approximately a week,, and administered high dose antibiotics. Unfortunately the infection was too great and the antibiotics had no effect. My poodle had to be put to sleep. I can't help but wonder, if my poodle would still be here today, had she been properly diagnosed at an earlier point.Since my poodle has been laid to rest I have been treated with a level of rudeness unheard of in any profession. The staff and owner have hung up the phone while I was speaking to them, and have informed me that they are making copies of my Facebook posts that discuss their incompetence, and they informed me that I am no longer welcome in their establishment.I will NOT recommend this clinic to ANYONE that cares about their animal.
