Live Oak Animal Hospital

A stray cat showed up at our place last week. He was so sweet and there was no doubt he needed to be a part of our family. We took him in to Live Oak as a walk-in and didn’t wait more than 10 minutes to be called back to an exam room. The tech, Gavin, listened intently to what we needed. Dr. Clary saw us not 15 minutes later and got us right in for a neutering, which was desperately needed if we were going to keep him inside with our current cat or even leave him as an outdoor kitty so we didn’t contribute more to the cat problem in Lubbock. Everyone was kind, listened, and explained what was going to happen during this visit. We’re so glad to have this amazing place to take our fur-babies! Read Less

Had to take my dog in for his shots i was a walk in no appointment (but he's been there before) they had us back in the room in about 10 min and out probably 15 min after that. I will say if you're a walk in go early we were there at 7:50am. The staff is amazing I feel as if my dog was there dog. They were informative and asked questions awesome people and great work!!! Dr.Wolf is one of the best Vets that we have had for the past,12 years. She has been there when they were sick and held our hands when they crossed the Rainbow bridge. We have been going to see Dr. Clary here for years. Today we had to take in our dog who was having trouble with his eye. Front desk staff are always very nice and helpful. Today we saw Dr. Chattin who took wonderful and gentle care of him. Julie, tech, was so caring and gentle. They made a difficult situation better. Today my 11 week old Rottweiler was taken in to see Dr Clary I am beyond thankful for the customer service and knowledge of the Dr's working there. The secretary who answered the phone was really understanding and willing to answer all my questions and the Dr was awesome with my puppy! If I could give this zero stars I would. After having our dog for 17 years and having him put down here. THEY LOST HIM. We had him cremated and they failed to get him to the cremation so as far as we know he was thrown away. They did nothing to help us and instead of calling us to inform us of this they just forgot. Months went by and we finally called to hear this news. They did not fire the person responsible so this WILL happen again and I do not think we were the first family mistreated. The staff is professional, knowledgeable, and caring. Dr Clary is top notch! I just took my dog to him for a second opinion after having surgery at another vet clinic and the experience was incredible. He answered all my questions, loved on my dog, and when I suggested a particular treatment he told me, "We could do that but it would be a waste of your money" I have never been to a vet, and I have been to a lot of them, offer to save me money. First of all the staff was really great. I have no complaints with them however I set an appointment for 7:30 and arrived around 7:10, by 8:45 I still had not been seen. Over an hour and a half wait with an appointment! Very annoyed and disappointed. Read Less

Great, friendly staff. The doctor was kind and patient while answering all of my many questions. He gave thorough answers and took his time. I have a very big dog who is dog aggressive and skeptical of new people. The staff was kind enough to humor me waiting outside until my appointment (so not to cause an issue with the other dogs) and the doctor was very gentle and eased my dog into accepting the exam. The BEST experience I've ever had with a vet office. I have had animals my whole life and have met with many vet's. I came to Live Oak Animal Hospital after having to fire my previous vet. (Do NOT go to south university veterinary hospital). Live Oak Animal Hospital is amazing if I could give them 10 stars I would. You get to stay with your pet. They take what ever time is needed to answer any questions you might have and resolve all concerns. They try to save you money at every turn by letting you know what treatments are needed and which treatments are not. If there is a less expensive avenue to obtain the treatment needed they mention it to you. They are not in it for the money. You can tell that they love the pt's aka your pet and care for them as if there own. One of my really good friends took their 9 week old puppy at the time to this vet due to them choking on a bone earlier that day. It went as expected. The puppy would need some rest from having a sore throat. The next day went back for her being extremely sick. Turns out she got the parvovirus from the vet. They had given her a piece of cheese off the vet table which is how she contracted it. On top of that, they had to keep her a couple days to monitor and treat and when they went to go check on her the back was dirty and smelt terrible. Was extremely disappointed with the facility. Once again the great folks (and Dr. Eric Cunningham in particular) at Live Oak Animal Hospital have come through for me and a pet of mine in an emergency situation. I took my little Buddy dog in for what turned out to be an abscessed tooth. They were able to get him in for the surgery the same day. Due to their wonderful 10pm closing time, I was able to pick him up that evening instead of him having to stay in an unfamiliar place overnight, which would have been stressful for both of us. We recently found out that our ten and a half year old boxer, Turbo, had cancer. Everyone was caring, considerate and patient as we tried to cope with his sickness and sadly his death. We had many questions and I probably called every day, sometimes twice a day. But they continued to be kind and understanding. The morning he passed away, several staff members came in to say goodbye to him, to offer comfort to us and some even shed tears with us. We appreciate the compassion that was shown not only to our Turbo, but also to us. Thank you Dr. Cunningham, Dr. Ezell, Dr. Wolfe, and all of the staff on the vet side and also the hotel staff. We had to take our dog in for a Ultrasound yesterday. They told us the price and that was what it was when we picked Ashley up. They are not our regular vet but because of the ultrasound we went there. The tech and Doctor both was very nice and explained everything. They are keeping in touch with our regular veterinarian. Very satisfied with my experience here. The staff was friendly and I was seen almost immediately after going in with no appointment and being a new customer. The vet was very knowledgeable and took the time to ask me questions about my pet and details surrounding his current condition. Having an exotic pet, these things matter to me. Went in to get my puppies shots updated short notice at 5:30 which fits my work schedule perfectly, they take walk in, we're super nice and speedy had an emergency walk in so time was a little long but not terribly. Also greatly priced for my little dog, needed a price sheet of what it will cost to get my dog fixed they printed me off two different prices on the coverage. I went here for the first time yesterday when my cat had been throwing up, not eating, and sleeping all day. Dr. Ezelle and her technician were very nice, professional and gave me many options to take care of my kitty! She did an X-ray and gave me results immediately, then kept her for the rest of the day to watch her, give her fluids and medicine. She's on antibiotics now and she's eating and acting like herself again! Dr. Ezelle even called today to check on her. Can't thank them enough! Read Less

Dr. Ezelle (sp?) was wonderfully caring to both my cat and myself! She fielded all of my questions and phone calls with concern and empathy. She is very knowledgeable! And Dr. Cunningham is very personable and intelligent. It was obvious he has a lot of experience taking care of animals! Not impressed one bit. Will not recommend to family or friends. 1. Called asked for otc joint/hip meds for my dog. "Yes we have different ones. you can just come in and chose." Drove 45 minutes to be told "oh no sorry you must have an appointment. We don't hand out meds without seeing the animal first." (Thanks for wasting my gas and time) 2. "I need to get an estimate on a basic neuter." Lady: is it a boy or girl? (I said neutered. so clearly a boy. im not an idiot.) Age and weight? (55lbs age 3) It's around $114. They will have to stay over night for observation. 3. I get there it was an 1 hour wait for the drop off service and the girl lays on the table an estimate for over $350. Tells me someone will call me later today to pick him up. 4.(Im already irritated because I had to wait 1 hour with a dog and 3 young kids. Now the bills 350 and I have to stay in lubbock for who knows how many hours.) No communication between front desk and who ever takes the animal back. After telling her I'm not paying that the estimate came out to $175. Clearly this vet hospital just says what they want over the phone to get you in and your business. 5. I was also irritated that when I called for an estimated time on when I could pick him up her reply was "someone will call you" (I didn't ask if someone would call me. I ask for an estimated time! I have other peoples kids with me and I dont live in lubbock. They need to get home.) My dog will need to have his stitches taken out but I will not be returning to this vet because I refuse to let my dog go behind close doors to have them removed. (Be aware your pet will go behind closed doors for just about everything besides a weight check and for you to pay your bill.) Yes I am aware they act different in front of owners but so do my children. If I wont let a dr take my child behind closed doors besides to the OR. You're not taking my dog out of my sight either.Read Less

Had to take my 14 year old fur baby to be put down because she had a stroke and could not stand and was struggling and in pain. The staff was very nice and got us in and out quickly, the vet talked to us for quite a while and was very nice and compassionate. The price was very reasonable. The whole experience even though it was sad and difficult they made it as easy and positive as possible and I would strongly recommend them. Read Less

UNACCEPTABLE!! I just put my dog to sleep today, the girl who was trying to find his vein had to stick him at least 15 to 20 times before they could get it, and when they finally did he was moaning in pain, so I was looking for the doctor so they could hurry up an put him down, after it was all said and done I tell the girls at the front what just happened and that I was looking for someone to help us get our dog out, they didnt seem to care, dont know how the hell this place got voted best in the west thats a joke, i feel sorry for your dog if they have to get put down at this place, I really do Read Less

I got my peno cat's paw print today! This animal hospital has helped me and my fur babies with everything from the simplest visits to the most complicated, and done so with such care and professionalism. They are my vets from now on! I absolutely love Dr. Ezell and Dr. Chattin although I know they are all great. Even get my cat food there after several failed attempts of choosing the best on my own. Read Less

This was the worst vet experience we had ever received. We took our papillon here because he had been attacked by another dog and was bleeding and clearly in pain and they were one of two vets open at the time. They clearly saw he was not doing too good and told us there would be a 45 minute wait. We understood since we know other animals needed to be seen too. They took him "back" and informed us that they had started an IV. That's all the information we got as we sat and waited. Finally they pulled us into a room and a vet tech explained a little more while admitting she wasn't too sure what dog we were all talking about. She said she hadn't even gone too look at him, yet she seemed to know so much about his condition. She left and we waited for the vet. The vet was nice and professional and thoroughly explained everything to us. They kept him overnight and said we would here from their around 2 the next day. We waited and waited until I finally just called to find out what was going on. The girl on the phone said she would have the vet call and talk to me about everything. Again we waited and waited and nothing! Knowing they closed at 5 that day, I called again and was informed that they were in the "process" of calling me. We never received a phone call. It was 4:30. They said he was ready to go home and we could pick him up if we got there before 5. Overall they just all seemed like they didn't give a crap about our dog. He was just a number to them. I don't recommend this vet clinic and we will not return.Read Less

Live Oak is a nice newer vet clinic with a clean, beautiful building. Some of the vets have a great deal of experience, and the staff is typically very friendly and accommodating. There can be a wait at times, so be prepared. I do feel that some of the veterinarians are a little too focused on the upsell rather than being willing to tell a client that their pet doesn't need something. That seems to be based on the individual vet that you get, and my personal pick is Dr. Wolfe. In fairness, the other vets I've seen were attentive and good with my dogs, but a 12-year-old dog that is puking blood doesn't necessarily need to be poked until you find the inevitable arthritis in her spine and then prescribed painkillers. (This happened, and it was only my pointing out a small lump in my dog's tail that led to the discovery of the mast cell cancer that was causing her vomiting.) Another time, I brought my dog in for an extraction of loose teeth that were knocked askew in a fight, and picked her up later that day without the procedure since their drill was out of commission. She sat there for several hours with nothing but pre-surgical bloodwork done. We resolved the issue at a different vet the next day.Overall, I like this clinic and continue to come here. I am just concerned that the practice is growing more quickly than they can handle and the quality is suffering. There are a lot of experienced heads in the building and if you can get the right ones, you're in good hands. Read Less

Everyone here is very nice. Least expensive vet I've found in Lubbock. I've had to call in pretty late (9ish at night) and was told it would be no problem if I needed to bring my dog up there even if it was past their closing time. They say they care and act like they care.Read Less

Dr. Cleary and Dr. Wolf have been our vets for years.... When our puppy Biscuit contracted Parvo I knew I would not take her anywhere else.... She was a very sick little girl.... While being treated at Live Oaks I was able to go and see her everyday.... I was able to speak to someone everyday on her progress and they never made me feel I was a bother even though I knew they were busy. I love that they are open late since I work 8-5 M-F it is great to be able to get them care after work hours.... I would never take my pets anywhere but Live Oaks.... If you want to take your babies to someone that loves and cares for them the way you would... then Live Oak Animal Hospital is the place for you.... Read Less

This is a great veterinary practice. The staff is ALWAYS helpful and caring about the animals, as well as pleasant and happy.
