My first experience with Southwest Animal Clinic was when my cat Awnie went missing in 2001 about a year after I moved back to Lubbock from the West Coast. Devestated, I cried for three days straight. I visited the pound three times a week for months, ran an ad in the paper for weeks, and went to every vet and clinic in town to post fliers.Exhausted after hitting up almost every vet in town, I walked through the door and went to the reception area. There is a distinct retro feel to the whole place, like it was designed in the 60's or 70's and still has the same furniture. No one was there, so I called out and waited. Before anyone came, I was surprised by a giant orange and white cat jumping into the reception window and purring at me. A moment later, Dr. Jury walked to the window. He genuinely acted like he cared and was sorry that my cat had disappeared. His sweet demeanor sold me on bringing my pets to him for care.I was in Lubbock for 7 years, and one of the hardest parts about leaving was knowing I would not have Dr. Jury and Pat (his wife who acts as receptionist sometimes) near my new home. I have never met a vet that cared so deeply about the animals that came in.When my mom's greyhound caught a random disease and withered away in about a 4 week time span, Dr. Jury was so wonderful and soothing, and made the experience much less traumatic than it could have been. When we took her to finally be put down (she was literally skin and bones by that time), he asked if he could do an autopsy to try and figure out what had happened. He never charged her for his services during the whole ordeal. When our goofball canine Domino was choking on something for about an hour around 10pm one night, Dr. Jury answered our call from home and met us up at the clinic. He pulled the blade of grass out of Domino's throat (that's right, a blade of grass!) and never charged us for the night visit.I only say all this so you can understand how deeply this clinic cares about animals, and how kind-hearted they are.If you haven't located a vet in Lubbock, or if you are feeling that yours isn't up to par, please visit Dr. Jury. You will never meet another vet so clearly in the business for the love of animals. Read Less
