We were very impressed with Dr. Means and his staff at King Animal Clinic! We had a small emergency with our dog, and we were able to get right in and she was seen by Dr. Means right away. He was very thorough and kind, and he called us on Sunday (instead of us having to wait until Mon.) to let us know about the lab results. My dog got into a fight and had a gash on her chest. Called the one in Petsmart and the doctor was doing a training class and could not be bothered. Called one other and could not get in. Called King and they said to bring her in. They got her in ten minutes after I got there, then confirmed she needed stitches. Took her back and told me to come back tomorrow for her. They kept her overnight, antibiotics, and stitches (with removal) for a very reasonable price!! They earned my business that day. Read Less

I have to say that Dr.Means and his staff have been so amazing. The girls that work there have been so kind and answer any questions I may have. They care about the animals that is for sure. I have been using them for the last 7 years and they have been able to help me with all my needs whether its as simple as giving vaccines or an emergency and they get me in right away. on December 21, 2016 I took my small dog in to get a growth removed from the back of his left back leg. Within 4 days, I had taken him back and the vet said he was concerned about his foot. Said I rewrapped it too tight and it cut off his circulation and it could be permanent damage etc. Said to follow up the next day as he didn't have time to actually examine him. I immediately took him to a new vet who stated that his STITCHES were so tight that they acted as a tourniquet to his skin and had cut off his circulation and his foot may have to be amputated! King vet did NOTHING, and didn't care! Nor did they ever offer my money back form this doctors awful surgery! It has now been two months and $1500 later. Plantation Vet in Frisco saved my dogs foot! immediately removed the stitches and then showed me how to treat so I wasn't going to spend every penny I had! King Vet is an office who does high volumes of surgery's daily- with no time for real care! DO NOT GO TO THIS VET! Read Less

Wife called king vet to get our 18yr old cat in that we are afraid may be deathly I'll at 830 on a sat morning and was informed we had to wait until Monday and they would not see us sooner even tho we had been a preexisting patient for 10yrs...we did not even get the option of an emergency visit so needless to say our 7 cats will be finding a new vet .... if you value the life of your animals find a vet that does too and it's not king vet......to bad we always had the impression they cared but making us wait until Monday with no option for an emergency visit is unacceptable and we will be parting ways after 10 yrs Read Less

This vet is the best place to take your animals! When I need to get in as soon as possible they see me the same day, or as soon as they can. The prices are amazing and they care about your animals. I had to have my beloved 13 y.o. Scottie euthanized today. She and I had traveled through 12 countries together and lived in five of them- oh, the adventures we had! But she grew old and ill until she stopped eating and didn't want to move, but only to sleep. Worse, she started to show signs of senile dementia: confusion, anxiety, relentlessly pacing the floor in the middle of the night. Dr. Means and his staff made the decision easier for me by their patience, understanding and genuine compassion.. unbelievable really in this day and age. All were 100% professional every step of the way. What a wonderful vet! Reminds me of the old-style vets from my childhood: caring, patient, professional, and most of all, not greedy to up-sell treatments as with so many vets today. Five stars is far too few. Read Less

I have to say that this is probably the best place we have ever been to. We came to them because our cat Annie was sick and nobody could figure out why. Needless to say, our outcome was not joyful however King Animal Clinic was wonderful through the whole process. Beth was wonderful and answered every single question my husband and I had. (no matter how high maintenance we may have been) Dr Means was straight and to the point. No frills or up selling us anything. He took his time and always explained everything to us. Every time we went in for a visit Ashley was so gentle with Annie and you could tell she truly cared. To the staff I would like to thank you again for all of your patience and kindness. You have no idea what it means when you are going through something so blindly to have someone on the other end to help guide you. I think I found my vet.  What a huge difference with King than what I experienced just a few days ago.  My dog has become extremely ill and I tried to get her into another vets office and they were so slow although she was clearly sick and were giving priority to the scheduled visits.  I understand this when people walk in just to get shots or something but when you call because you think your dog ingested something toxic and they tell you to bring them in,  you shouldn't let them sit.   You should take emergencies quickly if no other reason to assess them and send to the ER.   Anyway, So  this morning, I called King  after I picked up my dog from the hospital to do a follow up visit.  They got her right in, they were so thorough with her records, checking over her, etc... and friendly to talk to.   Then after all that,  the bill was so reasonable,  I think I gave her a look of shock.   I left feeling like my dog got the best care and after a 3 day hospital stay,   it was so refreshing to have a small bill. Super friendly staff that never tries to sell you on anything or convince you that there is something wrong that isn't.  Been bringing our cat here for years for their low cost shot/clinic days, and brought a new rescue dog (a ~ 1 year old chihuahua) for a checkup after adoption.  I normally hold vets in the same regard as insurance salesmen, pharmaceutical reps and anyone who writes commercials that are geared to convince you that your children are going to die if you don't buy their product.  King is different.  He was given a clean bill of health and only was prescribed the meds we thought he would be (flee and worm), and they were discounted lower than I thought.  The visit fee was very reasonable as well.  They laughed off the fact that in his excitement he pooped in the reception area. :) Read Less

We moved to McKinney 1.5 yrs ago. I called around all the vets in town and they have the lowest cost for an office visit along with great reviews. That was the reason we went to them. I am so glad we found them to keep my dog healthy. I recommended all my friends and neighbors to go to them. It is not a fancy place but they get the job done. Read Less

My family, which includes 2 dogs, just moved to the McKinney area at the end of April. My Great Dane Pup was due for his last set of shots and rabies vaccination. After calling around to every vet and checking YELP (of course), I ended up at King Animal Clinic. This office does have a more laid back/country vibe which I am all for. Made me feel right at home. There is a small play area for children, which I find helpful because I have had to bring along the kids this summer.Their prices are the best in the area and they are very fair with their practices... Once I had to come back the next day for something that came up over night and I was not charged for an additional office visit. I have been in more than I'd like to admit (my dogs developed allergies once we moved up here and then got sick from a dog park) but I have never felt like I was a bother or paid more than I thought was worth their services. It almost feels like I'm getting over on THEM when I leave. Lol.I have met everyone on the staff and they are all personable, relatable folks. I've joked around with them, held conversations about our kids and dogs and never had a negative interaction. They are genuinely concerned about whatever I am concerned about, even if it's finances at the moment. I have referred anyone who will listen here and will continue to do so. My old vet that I had been using since 2002 had some big shoes to fill, so job well done Dr. Means and staff! Read Less

My family has been using King Vet since Dr. King was still there... Dr. Rob is such a great vet and is very compassionate when it comes to your feelings.. He will take the time to talk to you and answer any questions you might have... He is also very through when it comes to treating your pet.. He treats them all as if they were his own.. The staff there is great also..they always remember who we are and who our pets are.. they are very personable and are just as compasionate as the doctors.. The prices are right also..not to put a price tag on my pets care, i would go to them no matter what they charged,..but it really helps during hard times... i would refer any person i meet to Dr. Rob and gaurentee they would love them.. Here's the thing. I love my dog.  I'm kind of obsessed with my dog.  She's my child, since we don't have any kids of the human variety.  I've been to pet resorts who get this attitude, I've been to Petsmart, and THEY get this attitude.  What I can't understand are vets who DON'T get this attitude.  The receptionist/ vet tech at this clinic is quite horrid.  She's not personable, she treats you like you're an inconvenience and is really nasty on the phone.The vet (we've only seen Robert Means) is okay, but really doesn't make you feel like your pet is anything special.  And to me, she is special- she's my world.  He did his job, just didn't seem very excited to do it...When I asked about a rattlesnake vaccination, the vet looked at me like I was crazy.  When I explained that we frequently visit places where a rattlesnake bite is a real possibility, he told me he didn't know anything about it.  Period.  Well, okay, but as my vet, should you maybe look into it and let me know your personal opinion on whether my dog should have this vaccination?They just don't go above and beyond, and to me, that's not cool. I took my pup in today to get his Rabies vaccination. The two ladies at the front desk barely recognized that I had entered the building (conversating about their individual lunch menu's instead) As I was a new customer they had to get our information, which took awhile, as she was still having the lunch conversation. I was charged $36 after explaining that I needed the vaccination and that was all. (I thought this was high for a shot, but didn't buck it because I wanted to get my pup in to a groomer and needed the vac. first) One of the ladies came out into the waiting area that I was in, picked up my dog and handed him to the other lady across the counter. She then stuck the shot in, but he wiggled. She decided he had either peed or had knocked the needle out and hadn't received the vac. So she went around back and got another shot. This time she went back behind the counter with the other lady and stuck him again. Again he wiggled and the needle came out, but this time she had not pushed the vac. out of the needle. She then stuck him for a third time and was able to get the vaccine in. They never weighed my dog to know how much injection to give him, nor were they sure how much of the first injection he had received! They handed me my dog back, with very little apology, and I left. Upon getting into my car I looked at my receipt to see why it cost so much for a shot. The receipt read $16 for rabies vac. $20 for vet tech visit. Mind you they did NO visit with my dog other than pick him up and stick him 3 times. It wasn't until I got across town that I glanced at my receipt from when they scanned my credit card. It read $74. I drove back to the vet office, and asked to see the vet. I was told he was in surgery. The lady did not apologize for the mistakes but she did refund the overcharge. I told her I was disappointed that it took 3 attempts to administer the vaccination (which she abruptly tried to deny and said it only took two - I told her, ""I saw you stick him three times"", and she grinned), and that I didn't believe the so called tech visit was worth $20. She said she could have charged me for an office visit that would have been $40. I asked when the veterinarian would be out of surgery so that I could speak with him. She said he would be able to speak around 1:30, because they would be having lunch from 12:30-1:30. She said I should leave my number because the veterinarian would be too busy to take a call. I left my number with her for the veterinarian, and have not heard from him as of yet. It is now 5:30. ~ I would give no stars if the rating system would allow it. Read Less

My cat was very sick and the vet I had seen earlier in the day suggested an $1800 surgery or putting him down. I wasn't ready for either option so I went to the SPCA and they recommended Kings.
