I was very please how Dr. Pirrung and his staff treated my Chihuahua Miny and Schnauzer Scout. They let me know my options without excessive selling. I returned the following week to have Scout's teeth cleaned and several teeth pulled. Scout is an older rescue and needed the work badly. He now has a clean and healthy mouth and seems even spunkier than his usual self. I was given the antibiotics necessary to prevent infection. I have been using the vet since 2000. He was the only doctor in his office when it opened, not just a receptionist there. My dog was very ill and needed attention. He was very caring and explained everything. And the rest of my crew (all 7 animals) have been going there. He has another doctor that comes on Wednesday and she is just as wonderful. We moved to Mesquite last summer. I needed to find a new vet for our animals. After reading the good reviews I decided on South Mesquite Veterinary Hospital because everyone seemed to have good experiences here. Mine was not any different. Doesn't instantly go for surgery route...tries to take the less costly approach to multiple issues we have had so far with our Farm of animals. Three dogs and a Fat Cat. There's been a Dr. Pirrung taking care of my family for the past 46 years. First a people doctor, now a vet. Dr. Mark Pirrung has been my vet for 20 years now. The doctors and staff at SMVH are the best. They've seen me through everything with great knowledge and gentle care. I wouldn't dream of taking my pets anywhere else. PS. Horrible attitude! Dr pirrung has no business ethic. Reviews Is by his employees. They don't explain what they are going to do. The assistant wasn't prepared. My dog is scared and they didn't direct me on anything. Of course a dog is going to defend them selves. Doctor said "you're the one that will be sued if he bites" why would you say that. You should tell someone that at the beginning of the visit. Just say he's too violent and we can move on. I work in the medical field I'll have him reviewed by higher ups. Don't be disrespectful to people cause you never know who they know. Be advised at you and your dogs own risk if you decide to take them here. This doctor is old and needs to retire with that horrible attitude. My money is going to someone that deserves it. Read Less

Absolutely love Dr.Pirrung was using another vet and decided to find a new bet for various reasons and I am glad I did ! Have had to call after hours on an emergency and he called back and actually helped tell me what to do to abaoid going to an emergency vet and accruing the expense ! This is what made my mind up to start using his facility . My bulldogs love him and we couldn't be happier with the service and the friendly staff and his vet tech is awesome . He is honest and doesn't waste your time with idle chatter chatter he tells it like it is and doesn't try to sell you on things you don't need yet saves you money with advice of optional treatments . Dr. Pirrung is a great vet. He has taken care of 6 of my dogs over 20 years. He really loves his patients (furry, not human) and you can tell by the way he treats them and talks to them. He has gotten a couple of my pets thru some serious illnesses. If I have questions, he will take as long as it takes to answer my questions a make sure I understand what is going on with my pet. I have been using this clinic for quite a few years. Every summer when we go on vacation we kennel our dog Tasha for the week. They clip her nails, give her her shots and generally just take good care of her. She's always healthy and happy whenever we return to pick her up. When the end of life decision had to be made they helped us in every way. When the day finally came they handled everything with grace, patience, understanding and compassion. The veterinarian explained every detail of what was going to happen. They gave a shot of sedation to ease our dogs suffering. After about 15 minutes, the veterinarian returned to the room with the lethal injection in one hand and a box of Kleenex in the other. That was a nice touch. It was obvious that he had done this many times before. It was also obvious that this was the worst part of his job. Once he had confirmed that she had passed he told us that we could stay with her as long as we wanted. A couple of weeks later they sent us a sympathy card signed by the whole staff. That was really nice. I've never seen such a kind and compassionate veterinary clinic before. And I've been to quite a few. I would highly recommend them. Read Less

I think they are the Best Veterinarian Clinic around! I love that we have to make an appointment because when you arrive with your pet there is no waiting and sitting around in the waiting room for others before you, and you go with your pet into the pet's examining room. They don't take very long to get in there and they, Dr Pirrung and his assistants are very compassionate and gentle with your pet. Even the receptionists are always kind and friendly as well. The cost is about the same with all the veterinarian clinics, I don't see any differences. So it's a win-win here and my dog is an anxious dog to begin with when he knows he's getting a shot and an examination but they're very good with him. We won't go anywhere else. Read Less

The staff was so helpful when I brought all three of my babies by myself and we were in and out in 20 minutes! One staff member even helped me carry one of my kitty crates to the car. I was expecting to pay about $100 more than I did and all of the rabies shots are good for 3 years! I didn't even know because the shots were only $13 a piece! I highly recommend this vet. I'm only giving this Vets office 3 stars because the doctor is wonderful. I really like him, as does my fur baby. My only issue with this place is the receptionist, the lady I spoke to was very rude! I ended up not scheduling an appointment and finding a new vet because of her rude she was. My dog is like my child, and she was in such discomfort that she was hardly even eating. She has sever allergies so I knew what was wrong. I called as soon as they opened to schedule an appointment. When I explained what was going on, she was rude and told me there were no appointments for another 2 days. My dog would have been miserable waiting another two days, thankfully I found another office who was nice enough to squeeze her in. Read Less

Dr. Pirrung is HORRIBLE! I took my puppy because he was vomiting, nor was he eating or drinking anything. They tested him and he was Parvo positive. As an owner, I was already very upset and crying. His "bedside assistance" is VERY disruptive. He made no suggestions on what I should do. I asked him if it were his pup what he would do. He replied by saying "if it were my dog he would not have Parvo to begin with". Luckily i was not in the mood to say anything back or hell would have started! My step mom was with me as well and said we were trying to find him a home but could not so then took him to get shots so it was partly our fault but we were trying to get rid of him due to the fact that we already have 2 dogs. He replied to her as well and said "Yeah well eye-to-eye/20/20. I am sorry, if i did not care, I WOULDN'T COME SPEND HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TO HELP MY ANIMAL! Last night he was given 3 injections and I was told this morning more should have been done. No IV's were given for fluids either. Needless to say, i am VERY disappointed. My pet is no longer with us and I know for a fact more could have been done and i was willing to pay for it. I do NOT recommend this vet! DO NOT COME HERE! & "Dr. Pirrung," be sure and make your clients feel welcome. You are there to HELP! & I hope & pray you feel more sympathy next time for owners who are crying in your waiting room. There's been a Dr. Pirrung taking care of my family for the past 45 years. For the past 19 or so that's been Dr. Mark Pirrung taking great care of my pets. He's just the best. Several years ago when my little kitten got pneumonia Dr. Pirrung met me at his office on a Sunday to give him an injection. That's going above and beyond the call of duty in my book. Dr. P. has been our vet for 25+ years. We have never had another vet since moving to Mesquite in 1979. He is caring and understanding, and very kind. His building houses complete surgical suites, laboratory, overnight/day boarding, prescription and non-prescriptions medication, etc. Dr. P. is up-to-date on the latest technologies and treatments. His wonderful office manager, Donna, has been with Dr. P. for many years and is also kind and caring. His two vet techs are wonderful and very knowledgable, and are readily available to answer questions. My favorite Dr. P. story: Our precious Schnauzer, Harley, had an upper gastrointestinal bleed several years ago. I was very upset and expecting the worst. When Dr. P. called me to give an update on Harley, he told me how great Harley was doing and that I could probably pick him up the next day. I asked this wonderful animal practitioner/surgeon if he would kiss Harley goodnight. Dr. P. said he would, and I know he did what I asked. He's that kind of physician, and that is why our family (including my son and his wife) and friends will continue to see to see Dr. P. until he retires, which I hope is a very, very long time. When we moved to Mesquite in 2000, we went to a local vet near our home that performed bladder stone surgery on our dog. One evening after the surgery, he was in distress. I could not reach the vet and began to search for someone who could help me -- I was in a panic! Dr. Pirrung responded to my call and saw our dog the next day. Since then, Dr. Pirrung helped us keep his pH level with diet. He special orders the supplement that our dog finds the most tasty, too!
