It has taken me awhile to post this review due to pending a response from corporate and wanting to do my proper research. While this is lengthy, please take the time to read so you have the knowledge to advocate for your dog. My dog was a patient at the clinic with Dr. Hicks for about 3 years and we have not had any issues. An ex of mine has 3 other dogs who were patients there, one of which had an ongoing medical condition that was treated by Dr. Hicks. When we broke up almost two years ago, I informed Dr. Hicks and staff to please remove me as a person on his account since I will no longer be caring for his dogs and did not want to receive emails or phone calls regarding the animals. My dog has always been on a separate account where I am the only name listed.
In June 2021, I took my dog in for her annual and all was well. Fast forward to November 10, 2021, I make her an appointment to express her anal glands. Everything seemed pretty normal until I followed up on November 15, 2021. The front desk receptionist informed me that they had terminated the relationship with me back in September and Dr. Hicks was surprised to see my dog in office and didn’t want to see her again. They had apparently sent the letter to myself and my ex to his address yet they did not care to send the letter to me because my dog was under a completely different account. Completely shocked my this, I repeatedly asked to speak to Dr. Hicks and they said she refused and sent me her health records so I don’t have a reason to contact them. Due to whatever issue she had with my ex, she decided to terminate the relationship with me as well when I have been nothing but a great pet owner, and she was well aware. Tracy, the office manager, was also no help and repeatedly told me Dr. Hicks did not want to speak to me.
A few days later, I receive the original letter they sent back in September. To my surprise, I am not allowed to visit about 15 hospitals, clinics, and specialities that are owned by the corporate, Pathway Alliance now Thrive Pet Healthcare. Once again, that caught me by surprise so I began my research on my dogs rights. After review of the code of ethics and rules, a code went in to effect on November 7, 2021, which is for Honesty, Integrity, and Fair Dealings - all of the things Dr. Hicks did not possess in her dealings with me. I requested the number for the Regional Director to file a formal complaint with Thrive who has been helpful and absolutely great with communicating.
I also contacted the Texas State Medical Board to know my rights as a pet owner. They also informed that Dr. Hicks can terminate her relationship with me at that specific clinic if she chooses however she cannot prevent me from visiting other clinics. If you do your research on her via her maiden name, Saacks, you will find a number of findings and probations with the state medical board that I should’ve questioned her ethics before my dog was even a client there. I decided to proceed with filing a complaint with corporate first rather than the medical board.
Thrive Pet Healthcare has communicated with me and cleared the issue going forward with other clinics. As I said above, the Regional has been a delight to work with and I am happy with the outcome provided. I will no longer be visiting Town East Animal Hospital because I do not trust Dr. Hicks nor respect her for how she handled the situation, when all she had to do what follow her code of ethics state - be honest and transparent, act with integrity when I had nothing to do with whatever incident occurred, and treat me fairly to come to a resolution.
Please advocate for your dogs. Animals are considered personal property and do not have as many rights but if you properly do your research you can protect them the best you can. Look up the codes with the American Veterinary Medical association and the Texas State Medical Board.

I have been using Town East for over a year now (although not exclusively as I do rescue). Originally I began going here because A) they accept Care Credit and B) they have ample weekend appointments when booked ahead of time. Now I use them because I sincerely respect their doctors, trust their opinions, revel in the one on one time for all my questions (and I have all the questions) and because they treat the cats at MAS; which our rescue is partnered with. I've used them for my resident dog; 3 foster dogs and a few cats. I assisted the wind in breaking their front door once; didn't even realize it until much later - they were super cool about it. They are also really really good with my EVERYTHING reactive rescue dog. And somehow I ALWAYS get the same room. Highly recommend them. No bad experience yet and I've had enough experience here not to expect it moving forward.

I followed her from her previous practice at Hillside Veterinary Hospital in Dallas to Town East Veterinary Hospital in Mesquite simply for that reason. When my husband and I moved to Mesquite, we were looking for a new vet for our dogs. I found Town East by looking for vets in the area. I was fortunate enough to meet Dr. Airhart before his death and he was kind and informative. After Dr. Airhart's death, Town East has continued to provide excellent service to our dogs. The staff and vet always answers our questions and any concerns we have. My Chihuahua has had her teeth cleaned here and they did an excellent job. I am pleased with the low cost vaccination clinic to keep my dogs up-to-date with their vaccinations. Some of my dogs are skittish and the staff has been professional and kind. They always have a smile and have called to check on our dogs after we visit. I love the staff here!

I love this hospital and all of the staff. They are all fantastic and handle my animals incredibly well. I have a dog that I got from a shelter who is super skittish and they are fantastic with her, as well as my horrible cat, and don't mind my husky singing in the waiting room. The staff remember you and it is obvious that they really care about your animals. They had a horrible loss this last year and have handled it beautifully. I wouldn't take my pets anywhere else.

My husband and I are very impressed and pleased to be new clients at Town East. We had moved to Mesquite from McKinney a year ago looking for a good vet and we were fortunate to meet Dr. Airhart before he passed away. He was kind and knowledgeable and did such a wonderful job with our jobs, including Sango our Japanese Chin who's very skittish. Very unhappy with my experience with Dr. Airhart. My girlfriend and I brought our sugar gliders in for a check up, and we called ahead to ask if he had experience treating small mammals and exotics, which we were told he did. However, he was extremely condescending, did not know what he was doing and even said he didn't actually like treating exotics. What's worse, he spent a good 10 minutes trying to force what he claimed were prolapsed genitals back inside one of our male gliders...which was not the case at all I come to find out when I did my research online. Dr. Airhart simply didn't know what the genitalia of a sugar glider looks like, and thought something was wrong, when it wasn't and may have caused more harm to my pet for his lack of knowledge and inability to be honest about it. I can't speak for his experience with more traditional pets, but I would highly suggest against taking any exotic pets to see him.

Had been here many times before. But my mom took my 4 year old Yorkie here yesterday because she woke up and was very lethargic and not acting like herself. We suppose she ate something she wasn't suppose to.. well all the doc did was feel her stomach and gave her an anti diarrhea med. Then proceeded to say she was a "bit of a drama queen" bc she was crying while he was touching her stomach. Told us to bring her back in a couple days if she wasn't better... last night she was acting a little better but not much. We woke up today with her no longer being with us.. we planned on bting her back in this morning. I feel like should have done an xray or something besides just feel her stomach. Been more thorough, something.. maybe we could have saved her... it's ridiculous.

I used to work here at Town East Animal Hospital, so I am a little biased; however, working here has shown me what it means to truly love an animal. Most of our clients are returns and have been coming to us for generations. Doctor Airhart's motto is (i'm paraphrasing here) 'I won't charge for what they don't need', and boy, he lives his life to that statement, he says 'I need to be able to lay down at the end of the day and really feel good about the work i've done'. The compassion is real here, the staff is phenomenal, and truly have a love for your baby. If you have questions while you're in the room, don't be afraid to ask, the technicians are very knowledgeable and Dr. Airhart is very welcoming to opinions. If anything, they respect you and your babies as if they were our own. I sincerely hope that this has shed a little light on this clinic. Kylie

This is the best animal hospital I have ever been to. My dog Sophye has been sick for awhile. Dr. Airhart was able to figure out what was wrong with her and now she is feeling great and back to her happy self. I found the staff to be nice and they seemed to genuinely care about us. Dr. Airhart is a very nice doctor and I feel like he explained the problem to us in a way we could understand. I recommend this clinic.

The staff there suck! Jackie in the front is rude, arrogant, she acts like she us the only one that matters. I called 3 different times to pay my bill and she was never there and for some reason no one in the office can take the payment. I tried to give my payment details 3 different times and could not pay my payment. Then I call the 4th time and finallygot a hold of of the witch herself you started to get on to me about paying my payment. She was giving me attitude about me calling late and my payment being late after I tried to call 3 times. Then I get a letter from Jetta, who I think is married to Dr.Airhart, saying that I have missed my paying my bill. I think Jackie is insecure in her position and has it where she can only take payments. I guess she wants job security. I had my Doberman puppy there for her check up and to have her ears cropped. I called before I went there and made sure they could work with me on the bill because it isn't a cheap surgery. I was told not to worry and that everything was fine. I took my dog in and was treated crappy by Jackie and was treated like I was nothing but white trash. Now I have to find another vet that has a office staff that knows what they are doing. It seems like a busy body know it all witch is running this office and having a power struggle trip! She doesn't need to be greeting the public. DO NOT TAKE YOUR FAMILY MEMBER THERE!!!!!

My cat was really sick and appeared to be dying. I rushed it in to Dr. Airhart who did some testing and found out that Socks was diabetic. The doctor put him on medication and now Socks is doing so much better!! The clinic is always clean and they have added stained glass lights in the lobby that look classy. I have always been treated well by the staff and found them to be super nice and helpful. I always recommend this clinic to everyone.

He is on the Board of Directors for the Texas Veterinary Medical Assn. and he was written up in the AVMA Journal as one of the top three veterinarians with the MOST CE hours out of hundreds of doctors. We highly recommend this doctor after years and years of experience with him. BEST doctor EVER!

There is not enough room on this web page to give an accurate description of the terrible experience and service I had with this office. The veterinarian should not be practicing any longer. He not only almost killed my pet (who only survived due to a second opinion and a QUALIFIED veterinarian?s office) he was also very unprofessional. While he was examining my pet, Dr. Airhart proceeded to explain to me that the reason why vaccinations are so important now days is due to the increasing Mexican population. He said that all of the illegal immigrants in Texas are ignorant and below poverty level and that this leads to them not immunizing even their children and this is why Whooping Cough has came back in humans and why canine diseases are showing back up. Wow! What arrogance! He then proceeded to tell me that people that bring their pets in with Cancer and other deadly diseases that he just wishes they would let them die because it was just selfish to save them. What kind of vet is this? I don?t know if he has been in the business too long or what but I have NEVER experienced and individual like him before. He did not even perform a full exam of my pet before diagnosing him (which ended up being a wrong diagnosis) but he actually refused to exam the things I asked him too. The staff at his office was actually very good. I?m not sure how they work in an office with a man that seems to care NOTHING for animals but I assume they are trying to take up the slack for his incompetence. The only other person that I had a bad experience with other than the ?Doc? himself was Jetta Tacker the Office Manager. She was rude to me in person and was rude to me on the telephone. She was also VERY rough with my pet. She was so rough that I found myself secretly hoping she would get peed on or bitten ? I find her posts on this site about the office and herself somewhat humorous considering that anyone who has dealt with her knows that she does not find your pet ?precious? and clients are not important to her or the ?Doc? at all (unless they are not of the Hispanic ethnicity-Doc?s words, not mine). I would not recommend this place to anyone that cares about their pets or their dignity. I hope for the sake of the community that the word gets out about this place and pet owners take the pets to VCA or one of the other CARING clinics in the area.

I took my cat there because I thought she had some type of virus and I was ready to do all kinds of testing. Doctor Airhart examined my cat and turns out she has an upper respitory infection. We got some anitibiotics and she got an injection. It has been 4 days and she has already shown signs of improvement. I am glad i have found him. He was very conservative with her meds and she is so much better. I am sure I would have spent more money and got less time with my cat had I went somewhere else. Thank you.

He struck my cat right in front of me. What does he do when you aren't there? He tried to give my cat a pill and when the cat pulled back, he walloped him. When I took the cat home, I checked his mouth and he had an infected tooth, so I took him to another vet who did the dental on him. Dr. Airhart should have known the difference between a cry of pain and an attitude. My cat was old and that ""person"" stuck him without a moment's hesitation and not one word of apology. I have heard stories from others, but will allow them to write their own review. This man now has an office next to the new Mesquite Animal Shelter. Beware people.

Caring and friendly staff. Dr. Airhart has been a Mesquite Vet for many years. He knows his stuff. I now live in Fort Worth but still travel to Mesquite when my Boston Terrier needs a check-up.

It has taken me awhile to post this review due to pending a response from corporate and wanting to do my proper research. While this is lengthy, please take the time to read so you have the knowledge to advocate for your dog. My dog was a patient at the clinic with Dr. Hicks for about 3 years and we have not had any issues. An ex of mine has 3 other dogs who were patients there, one of which had an ongoing medical condition that was treated by Dr. Hicks. When we broke up almost two years ago, I informed Dr. Hicks and staff to please remove me as a person on his account since I will no longer be caring for his dogs and did not want to receive emails or phone calls regarding the animals. My dog has always been on a separate account where I am the only name listed.
In June 2021, I took my dog in for her annual and all was well. Fast forward to November 10, 2021, I make her an appointment to express her anal glands. Everything seemed pretty normal until I followed up on November 15, 2021. The front desk receptionist informed me that they had terminated the relationship with me back in September and Dr. Hicks was surprised to see my dog in office and didn’t want to see her again. They had apparently sent the letter to myself and my ex to his address yet they did not care to send the letter to me because my dog was under a completely different account. Completely shocked my this, I repeatedly asked to speak to Dr. Hicks and they said she refused and sent me her health records so I don’t have a reason to contact them. Due to whatever issue she had with my ex, she decided to terminate the relationship with me as well when I have been nothing but a great pet owner, and she was well aware. Tracy, the office manager, was also no help and repeatedly told me Dr. Hicks did not want to speak to me.
A few days later, I receive the original letter they sent back in September. To my surprise, I am not allowed to visit about 15 hospitals, clinics, and specialities that are owned by the corporate, Pathway Alliance now Thrive Pet Healthcare. Once again, that caught me by surprise so I began my research on my dogs rights. After review of the code of ethics and rules, a code went in to effect on November 7, 2021, which is for Honesty, Integrity, and Fair Dealings - all of the things Dr. Hicks did not possess in her dealings with me. I requested the number for the Regional Director to file a formal complaint with Thrive who has been helpful and absolutely great with communicating.
I also contacted the Texas State Medical Board to know my rights as a pet owner. They also informed that Dr. Hicks can terminate her relationship with me at that specific clinic if she chooses however she cannot prevent me from visiting other clinics. If you do your research on her via her maiden name, Saacks, you will find a number of findings and probations with the state medical board that I should’ve questioned her ethics before my dog was even a client there. I decided to proceed with filing a complaint with corporate first rather than the medical board.
Thrive Pet Healthcare has communicated with me and cleared the issue going forward with other clinics. As I said above, the Regional has been a delight to work with and I am happy with the outcome provided. I will no longer be visiting Town East Animal Hospital because I do not trust Dr. Hicks nor respect her for how she handled the situation, when all she had to do what follow her code of ethics state - be honest and transparent, act with integrity when I had nothing to do with whatever incident occurred, and treat me fairly to come to a resolution.
Please advocate for your dogs. Animals are considered personal property and do not have as many rights but if you properly do your research you can protect them the best you can. Look up the codes with the American Veterinary Medical association and the Texas State Medical Board.

I have been using Town East for over a year now (although not exclusively as I do rescue). Originally I began going here because A) they accept Care Credit and B) they have ample weekend appointments when booked ahead of time. Now I use them because I sincerely respect their doctors, trust their opinions, revel in the one on one time for all my questions (and I have all the questions) and because they treat the cats at MAS; which our rescue is partnered with. I've used them for my resident dog; 3 foster dogs and a few cats. I assisted the wind in breaking their front door once; didn't even realize it until much later - they were super cool about it. They are also really really good with my EVERYTHING reactive rescue dog. And somehow I ALWAYS get the same room. Highly recommend them. No bad experience yet and I've had enough experience here not to expect it moving forward.

I followed her from her previous practice at Hillside Veterinary Hospital in Dallas to Town East Veterinary Hospital in Mesquite simply for that reason. When my husband and I moved to Mesquite, we were looking for a new vet for our dogs. I found Town East by looking for vets in the area. I was fortunate enough to meet Dr. Airhart before his death and he was kind and informative. After Dr. Airhart's death, Town East has continued to provide excellent service to our dogs. The staff and vet always answers our questions and any concerns we have. My Chihuahua has had her teeth cleaned here and they did an excellent job. I am pleased with the low cost vaccination clinic to keep my dogs up-to-date with their vaccinations. Some of my dogs are skittish and the staff has been professional and kind. They always have a smile and have called to check on our dogs after we visit. I love the staff here!

I love this hospital and all of the staff. They are all fantastic and handle my animals incredibly well. I have a dog that I got from a shelter who is super skittish and they are fantastic with her, as well as my horrible cat, and don't mind my husky singing in the waiting room. The staff remember you and it is obvious that they really care about your animals. They had a horrible loss this last year and have handled it beautifully. I wouldn't take my pets anywhere else.

My husband and I are very impressed and pleased to be new clients at Town East. We had moved to Mesquite from McKinney a year ago looking for a good vet and we were fortunate to meet Dr. Airhart before he passed away. He was kind and knowledgeable and did such a wonderful job with our jobs, including Sango our Japanese Chin who's very skittish. The staff is kind and treats our dogs with sincerity and professionalism. Thank you for welcoming us!

Very unhappy with my experience with Dr. Airhart. My girlfriend and I brought our sugar gliders in for a check up, and we called ahead to ask if he had experience treating small mammals and exotics, which we were told he did. However, he was extremely condescending, did not know what he was doing and even said he didn't actually like treating exotics. What's worse, he spent a good 10 minutes trying to force what he claimed were prolapsed genitals back inside one of our male gliders...which was not the case at all I come to find out when I did my research online. Dr. Airhart simply didn't know what the genitalia of a sugar glider looks like, and thought something was wrong, when it wasn't and may have caused more harm to my pet for his lack of knowledge and inability to be honest about it. I can't speak for his experience with more traditional pets, but I would highly suggest against taking any exotic pets to see him.

Had been here many times before. But my mom took my 4 year old Yorkie here yesterday because she woke up and was very lethargic and not acting like herself. We suppose she ate something she wasn't suppose to.. well all the doc did was feel her stomach and gave her an anti diarrhea med. Then proceeded to say she was a "bit of a drama queen" bc she was crying while he was touching her stomach. Told us to bring her back in a couple days if she wasn't better... last night she was acting a little better but not much. We woke up today with her no longer being with us.. we planned on bting her back in this morning. I feel like should have done an xray or something besides just feel her stomach. Been more thorough, something.. maybe we could have saved her... it's ridiculous.

I used to work here at Town East Animal Hospital, so I am a little biased; however, working here has shown me what it means to truly love an animal. Most of our clients are returns and have been coming to us for generations. Doctor Airhart's motto is (i'm paraphrasing here) 'I won't charge for what they don't need', and boy, he lives his life to that statement, he says 'I need to be able to lay down at the end of the day and really feel good about the work i've done'. The compassion is real here, the staff is phenomenal, and truly have a love for your baby. If you have questions while you're in the room, don't be afraid to ask, the technicians are very knowledgeable and Dr. Airhart is very welcoming to opinions. If anything, they respect you and your babies as if they were our own. I sincerely hope that this has shed a little light on this clinic. Kylie

This is the best animal hospital I have ever been to. My dog Sophye has been sick for awhile. Dr. Airhart was able to figure out what was wrong with her and now she is feeling great and back to her happy self. I found the staff to be nice and they seemed to genuinely care about us. Dr. Airhart is a very nice doctor and I feel like he explained the problem to us in a way we could understand. I recommend this clinic.

The staff there suck! Jackie in the front is rude, arrogant, she acts like she us the only one that matters. I called 3 different times to pay my bill and she was never there and for some reason no one in the office can take the payment. I tried to give my payment details 3 different times and could not pay my payment. Then I call the 4th time and finallygot a hold of of the witch herself you started to get on to me about paying my payment. She was giving me attitude about me calling late and my payment being late after I tried to call 3 times. Then I get a letter from Jetta, who I think is married to Dr.Airhart, saying that I have missed my paying my bill. I think Jackie is insecure in her position and has it where she can only take payments. I guess she wants job security. I had my Doberman puppy there for her check up and to have her ears cropped. I called before I went there and made sure they could work with me on the bill because it isn't a cheap surgery. I was told not to worry and that everything was fine. I took my dog in and was treated crappy by Jackie and was treated like I was nothing but white trash. Now I have to find another vet that has a office staff that knows what they are doing. It seems like a busy body know it all witch is running this office and having a power struggle trip! She doesn't need to be greeting the public. DO NOT TAKE YOUR FAMILY MEMBER THERE!!!!!

My cat was really sick and appeared to be dying. I rushed it in to Dr. Airhart who did some testing and found out that Socks was diabetic. The doctor put him on medication and now Socks is doing so much better!! The clinic is always clean and they have added stained glass lights in the lobby that look classy. I have always been treated well by the staff and found them to be super nice and helpful. I always recommend this clinic to everyone.

My family and I have used Dr. Airhart since 1980 and LOVE him!! He gets to know his clients on a professional and personal level. He is honest and very educated. He is on the Board of Directors for the Texas Veterinary Medical Assn. and he was written up in the AVMA Journal as one of the top three veterinarians with the MOST CE hours out of hundreds of doctors. We highly recommend this doctor after years and years of experience with him. BEST doctor EVER!

There is not enough room on this web page to give an accurate description of the terrible experience and service I had with this office. The veterinarian should not be practicing any longer. He not only almost killed my pet (who only survived due to a second opinion and a QUALIFIED veterinarian?s office) he was also very unprofessional. While he was examining my pet, Dr. Airhart proceeded to explain to me that the reason why vaccinations are so important now days is due to the increasing Mexican population. He said that all of the illegal immigrants in Texas are ignorant and below poverty level and that this leads to them not immunizing even their children and this is why Whooping Cough has came back in humans and why canine diseases are showing back up. Wow! What arrogance! He then proceeded to tell me that people that bring their pets in with Cancer and other deadly diseases that he just wishes they would let them die because it was just selfish to save them. What kind of vet is this? I don?t know if he has been in the business too long or what but I have NEVER experienced and individual like him before. He did not even perform a full exam of my pet before diagnosing him (which ended up being a wrong diagnosis) but he actually refused to exam the things I asked him too. The staff at his office was actually very good. I?m not sure how they work in an office with a man that seems to care NOTHING for animals but I assume they are trying to take up the slack for his incompetence. The only other person that I had a bad experience with other than the ?Doc? himself was Jetta Tacker the Office Manager. She was rude to me in person and was rude to me on the telephone. She was also VERY rough with my pet. She was so rough that I found myself secretly hoping she would get peed on or bitten ? I find her posts on this site about the office and herself somewhat humorous considering that anyone who has dealt with her knows that she does not find your pet ?precious? and clients are not important to her or the ?Doc? at all (unless they are not of the Hispanic ethnicity-Doc?s words, not mine). I would not recommend this place to anyone that cares about their pets or their dignity. I hope for the sake of the community that the word gets out about this place and pet owners take the pets to VCA or one of the other CARING clinics in the area.

I took my cat there because I thought she had some type of virus and I was ready to do all kinds of testing. Doctor Airhart examined my cat and turns out she has an upper respitory infection. We got some anitibiotics and she got an injection. It has been 4 days and she has already shown signs of improvement. I am glad i have found him. He was very conservative with her meds and she is so much better. I am sure I would have spent more money and got less time with my cat had I went somewhere else. Thank you.

He struck my cat right in front of me. What does he do when you aren't there? He tried to give my cat a pill and when the cat pulled back, he walloped him. When I took the cat home, I checked his mouth and he had an infected tooth, so I took him to another vet who did the dental on him. Dr. Airhart should have known the difference between a cry of pain and an attitude. My cat was old and that ""person"" stuck him without a moment's hesitation and not one word of apology. I have heard stories from others, but will allow them to write their own review. This man now has an office next to the new Mesquite Animal Shelter. Beware people.

Caring and friendly staff. Dr. Airhart has been a Mesquite Vet for many years. He knows his stuff. I now live in Fort Worth but still travel to Mesquite when my Boston Terrier needs a check-up.
