I like the doctor's there, my dogs have been patients for a while now and I sent Last 5 Years. I have noticed more recently that the practice is becoming very busy. Where do I begin??? I currently live in Fort Stockton which is about an hour and a half away from Odessa. My family and I recently purchased a beautiful Doberman pup and wanted to get his ears cropped... we have never done this before so after a recommendation from a friend we decided to go with Dr Elrod. I did exactly what that office told me to do and upon arrival there we had the worst experience. They said that they wouldn’t work on him because he was one pound heavier than they wanted. Keep in mind I was never told about a weight restriction. We were now in a serious bind because it was going to be too late to get his ears done. Thankfully I called University small animal clinic! They worked with me and squeezed me in same day to take care of us! From reception and to the doctors who helped us they have been nothing but professional and caring!! I am now so very grateful to have had such a bad experience because it led me to this wonderful Vet clinic. Please don’t change because I’m sure everyone appreciates how you treat us when we come in! Dr Lide is as solid a clinician as is humanly possible. He is extremely intelligent and very much able to take his brilliance to the place of application. His diagnostic skill is exceptional, and his compassion heartwarming. Dr. Lide is always an excellent Veterinarian and we learned in an absolute emergency; when life and death hung in the balance Dr. Henry Lide acted and following three full hours of surgery, he saved our German Shepherd's life. This is the clinic I take my personal dogs too. The vets are very kind, caring and professional. They even see my Rufus, that was severely abused before I rescued him. They know his temperament and work with me on getting him in and out without any issue. I'm very lucky to have such an amazing place to take my furbabies. Read Less

I noticed my dog wasn't acting right yesterday evening. I kept her on watch and decided to call this clinic (I'm from out of town and moved here recently). I was going to just go in but decided to call ahead. The lady who answered listened to my concern then told me that because it was after hours it would be a lot more expensive than if I just waited til 8 o'clock and brought her in. She told me to just watch my dog since it wasnt life threatening and she was breathing fine and to just keep her comfortable. I hesitated at this because I wanted to get her seen, but decided to listen to them. So, I drive up there at 7:45 (because she told me to go in at 8, when they opened for normal operating hours) wait outside 15 minutes, go in, and the lady at the front first looked like being there with my sick dog was an inconvenience. Then, she tells me that a doctor wasn't even available at that hour. Then just gave me a card for the emergency clinic and told me to go there. Why? Why would they make me wait til 8 to tell me the doctor isn't even in at that hour? That is so unprofessional. Maybe they don't have pets or understand how important pets are to a family. This place is an absolute money grab. They charge 3-4 times what most vets charge for the exact same services. I WILL NOT SPEND ANOTHER DOLLAR at this place. They charge more to see my dog than the doctor charges to see me. It's absurd the prices they charge here. Go to 8th st for better services and definitely better prices. A TO Z in Midland also is much more appropriately priced. Read Less

I've been Dr. Lide since we were both young & skinny lol! His new vets are a great asset. Dr. Clemons who recently left did my Pitbull mixes acl repair. Dr. Robinson is a sweetheart & helped me get extra quality time with my beloved cat Tyler while other vets said don't bother! While I was sick with Ca, Dr Lide & staff helped raise my Danzig a Great Pyr rescue , before I realized I had to have chemo. He's also very compassionate about neutering & releasing feral cats! I have a pit mix who is NOT dog friendly. I was very hesitant on taking him to his appointment but I did anyway. The staff was extremely nice and very understanding, didn't ask questions or make me feel bad when I asked for a muzzle. The vet and vet tech were also incredibly amazing. My dog received a large flesh wound under her arm today and it freaked me out! I called Unversity Small Animal Clinic to bring my baby in. The doctors were about to go to lunch, and the lady who answered the phone told me they do not see animals until they open after lunch at 2. I explained that it was an emergency and was instructed to bring her in. She was seen by Dr. Lide immediately and went in to surgery to get patched up. I bring all three of my dogs here. Always very good with them. 1 is a pit bull and they will even board him and the other two when we go away. I never worry they take good care of them. I thought my small dog broke her leg once and called them on way there and they took her in. I love all vets there and techs. Read Less

I had a very unpleasant visit here I felt as the lady up front who helped was rude and she misspelled all of my information then the Dr was very vague he gave me no answers for what I was needing help with four my dog o went to another vet clinic for a second opinion and revived so much more help I've called twice dealing with them getting my records switched over and it was a pain the second time I called was about the microchip I got from them from the first visit and the lady had a hard time helping me with that very very disappointed I even Haye calling up there Read Less

I'm new in town and nothing can replace my old vet. However they did a great job. The schedule time was a week ahead, it would be nice if they could book on shorter notice. The time to wait and the appointment time were reasonable. They were knowledgable and good at explaining things at a level I could understand and their prices were fair. The set up is a little outdated and the rooms needed to be cleaned. Not a half bad place to bring a pet. Read Less

I would not take any pet to this place as they do not care for their patients.Took our little Maltese to get baby teeth extracted. After taking him home we noticed his left eye was swollen. Took him in and they admitted that they had not properly lubricated his eyes prior to surgery causing him to develop a ulcer on his cornea. Vet prescribed medication and told us to bring him for a check up on the 5th day. Called in on the 5th day and was told they could not see him due to being short handed and to bring him back next week.That showed us that they really do not care for their patients.Hope he does not lose the eye. While the name has "small" in it - they DEFINITELY take larger dogs.  (We took our 9.5 year old pitbull here when she made her transition to the Rainbow Bridge).  The staff, especially Dr Shaw & the two women working the front desk, were very compassionate in the decisions we had to make.  We've used them for years but have never had to use them for something like this.  I am glad we chose to go here instead of the other places around town.
