I have.been a customer for at least one year. Both our pets Angie {who was put to sleep) because of cancer that had spread and she was experiencing severe pain in the spine area.The Doctor who helped us thru the trauma of loosing a pet was Dr Alex Brenk. She was so caring and explained the process. Angie went to sleep peacefully.. Bella our other pet is a rescue pet that does not get comfortable with strangers. The staff has earned her trust and Bella has even spent time at the hospital day care. She always enjoys her stay. Our first pet, Calvin, has been a paw patient at claws and paws since 2013, and we couldn't be happier with his care! We now have a second pup, Dottie, that is a new paw patient at claws and paws. We have found this veterinary clinic to be our answer for pet care. Many clinics are good with dogs and then do take cats and other animals. The folks at Claws & Paws are very good with kitties. We had taken our kitties to west Houston to the Cat Hospital to get care for many years however after we tried Claws and Paws in an emergency, we found a new home here in Pearland for them. We still drive from 288 to their clinic but that is very close in comparison. They must be good as I have seen all kinds of animals appear there.... even a huge tortoise. Everyone in there is so helpful and sweet. You see smiling faces everytime you walk in the door. The doctors are great with my pup. Pepper is so popular around the office. The girls like to walk her around and show her off. The lady at the front desk is a life saver. I have no idea how to submit my insurance claims. She is always there to save the day for me. They are excellent. I've been taking my Chanel there since 2004. Most times is for boarding when I go out of town. They take great care of her and she loves them. Yesterday she became critically ill and of course, I took her there. Found out it was Congestive heart disease. It was very scary for me and my baby girl. Dr. Brenk and Ashley were on the case. They worked with her all day. I didn't know if she was going to make it. But by the grace of God using the knowledge that Ashley and Dr. Brenk had, she pulled through. Transferred her to Pearland emergency care overnight. Back to claws and paws today for observation. Looking so much better. Will be coming home today. I would recommend claws and paws to everyone. We are relatively new customers, but we LOVE Claws and Paws. They first dealt with our sick senior cat, and were gracious enough to let us wait in the car so as not to stress her more. Excellent care, they treat your pet as if it were their own. I took my cat here because I was concerned he was having another urinary blockage. After determining he wasn't blocking they did an ultrasound because there was concern he may have bladder stones. Sure enough he did, they did an XR to determine size and number of stones. He had a successful surgery to remove the stones. He also had his teeth done since he was under, due to a dental disease he had to have 7 teeth removed. They give you all the details and make sure you know what to do after taking your pet back home. They check on your pet the next morning to make sure they are doing well. People complain about prices, there's a few things you have to consider - where a clinic is located and this is a private practice not a chain like banfield and vca. Read Less

Best vet ever! I have gone to Claws & Paws for over 11 years. I can not say enough good things about Claws & Paws. They have excellent staff from the office staff, vet assistants, all the way to each of the veterinarians. The doctors are experienced, and take extra special care of each of my cats. Every time I bring my cats there, everyone on the staff treats them like one of their own pets/kids. I have had to bring my cats in for both routine checkups, and emergency visits that required surgery. I have gotten numerous phone calls from Dr. Terrel personally, to make sure my cats are ok after surgery. Dr. Terrel has also called me numerous times (even late in the evening!) to check on my eldest cat, to make sure his medication is helping him. That alone gives me great piece of mind. The office staff is amazing and friendly. Claws & Paws has always worked with me on payments, and is always flexible in giving me a flexible payment plan when it is needed. Claws and Paws is an AMAZING veterinary hospital. We have been seeing Dr. Wickel for 10+ years and she loves our furry babies like her own. She is so kind, caring, compassionate and GENUINE. She cried with us when we had to put one of our cats to sleep. Also folks have complained here on Yelp about cost but when I express a concern the staff is MORE than willing to give me different price options. We bring all our animals together for the multi pet discount. For two of our cats we have had to go to a vet specialist (Gulf Coast) - for one cat we had a good experience with pulmonary and the other time we had a HORRIBLE impersonal experience where our requests were completely ignored (the vet surgeon opened our 12 yr old kitty up, saw she had a huge abdominal tumor but decided to operate because their "might" be a chance she could respond with chemo - she died two months later and in our opinion suffered a lot).  We would much rather have had Dr. Wickel do the surgery in retrospect because she listens to us and cares for our animals quality of life. Her staff are amazing - kind, helpful, gentle, courteous and friendly.  They always take time to answer my questions patiently. Dr. Wickel or other vets ALWAYS call me back promptly with test results - I know Dr. Wickel has stayed after hours to call me on the promised day no matter what. So, I woke up to my in-laws saying that my dog had eaten a steak and gotten into the trash. That didn't make sense. No one had made steak recently. When I saw what they were referring to, it slowly dawned on me what they thought was a steak was actually a brick of bakers chocolate. My wife came over and showed me two more wrappings: totaling almost a pound of chocolate. Our 60 pound dog had gone crazy and jumped onto a hard to reach counter to get into some baking chocolate. It was off to claws and paws. They opened at 8 on Sunday so i was able to zoom over swap. At that point I didn't know when Fozzy had eaten the chocolate. When I got to the clinic he was taken in within minutes of arriving. Shortly thereafter, I hear "woahhhh!" From the back. Fozzy was saved. See photo for proof. Throughout the process, the vet, dr. We took one of our dogs to the clinic some years ago and fell in love with Dr. Wickel. She was fantastic with our 15  yr old. There were all kinds of tests she wanted to run that we thought weren't necessary but we let it pass. Since that first visit 3+ years ago we have been back with other dogs but have not seen Dr. Wickel. The other vets we saw were okay. We had three of our boys neutered there with no problems except for the sales pitch for this test and that test. I was thinking the other day that they must think of themselves like a people hospital where test after test can be done because the insurance will take care of most of it. Not so for most of us who don't have pet health insurance. The constant talk about money is why we hesitated to bring our little puppy to them but we figured they know us and we would be able to get our baby some help.Less than 24 hours after seeing a vet at this clinic OUR PUPPY WAS DEAD!They ran some tests but said they didn't want to risk blowing out a vein to put her on an iv. They sent us home with nausea meds and that was it. We were at the Pearland 288 ER at 230 that morning where she was kept comfortable with IV drugs. They close at 8am so we had to take her to another vet who promptly said she was suffering and we needed to end it. What happened at the CPVH? My guess is that William W. who is the staff member that comments on all these reviews will blame us for her death. We brought our little dog to your clinic trusting that you would help her. You didn't. There are lots of what if's in this situation, one of which falls at your doorstep William W. Your clinic could have saved her but because we were too busy talking about cost, our little angel is dead. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS TO THIS CLINIC. If you read other reviews you will see that the Clinic's spokesman will blame everyone and everything else under the sun. Even going so far as to say that Yelp only posts negative reviews. Not so. I have had lots of positive reviews on Yelp for my company. Maybe instead of being on the defensive you should re-evaluate your business practices and get back to caring about animals more than money. Read Less

I called to get an appointment for my lame cat and was able to get right in the same afternoon. The whole experience was superb, from the telephone receptionist, to techs, the delightful veterinarian, and the office staff. Very caring, kind and took all the time necessary to look after my cat. I took both my dogs there based off of the semi-positive reviews from this Yelp page.  When they went to collect blood for the heartworm test, they didn't check the needle before inserting it and used the wrong gauge on my dog!  He wound up bleeding down his leg while the vet just pushed her thumb on his leg and basically, said whoops - wrong gauge.  My other dog need a urine test and she was too stressed out to go naturally even though the tech and I walked her around for 20 minutes or more.  They offered to go in and grab the sample and I said that would be easier than continuing to stress out the dog.  They took her back and got a sample and brought her back and said she did just fine.  When I checked out I was SHOCKED at how expensive my bill was.  There roughly a hundred dollars in fees that I did not expect and when I asked for an explanation, I was told that it was for them to take the dog to the back and collect her urine.  It seems to me that telling someone ahead of time the cost makes sense.  Because of these two reasons alone I went to another vet, but when I got to new vet's office to get the dogs their rabies shots.  The new vet said they had them done in June.  I called back to Claws & Paws and asked for the certificates and noticed that the due date for the rabies was 10/01/12, while the date they were given a 3-year rabies shot was 06/13/12.  I called Claws & Paws to find out what the problem was and they said that they were never given a rabies shot in June.  That someone must have mis-entered the records.  So they don't tell you up front was the extra costs might be for procedures, they don't check to make sure they use the right equipment for the job, and they can't keep good records. I agree with others, they are pricey but I also have to agree, they do care about the pets, more so than the clients. My dog got into a sago palm seed or tylenol, or so they think, they never found what was wrong with him, his liver failed and he bled to death in 3 days. Initially they interrogated me, asked me how much marijuana he could have eaten. I was livid!!! Never had drugs in my home and I dont use them, after I chewed them out for approaching the subject in an accusatory rather than inquisitory manner, we tried everything to save our dog, xrays, blood transfusions, antibiotics, iv hydration, poor thing had to be put to sleep to end the misery. They were compassionate, patient and they did follow up afterwards. It was over $2000 but I have to say they tried everything we just couldnt figure it out. Read Less

Totally agree, the vets there are ridiculous.For the first 5 years it was okay, my parents took my dog there since he was a puppy, when we noticed after each visit the prices were getting higher and higher, we began to question. THEY DID NOT LIKE TO BE QUESTIONED. It is in every customers/patients right to ask what they are being charged for and whether or not something is necessary. They also were hesitant to give us prescriptions for outside pharmacies because they know they are cheaper outside of the clinic, these people charge ridiculous amount of money and they do not price match their products. They love to suck the money out of people, thankfully I found a better vet anyways with insurance and better payment options.
