TL; DR: Mostly nice people, convenient scheduling, and very fair prices (about $450 for spay and laser declaw.) There were no complications, and my kitten was 100% back to her old self in 2 weeks max. If you are a person on a budget, I would recommend this place for spay/declaw. However, I believe the practices and procedures are outdated. If you have the means to try somewhere more modern, I would go that route. The full review:I brought my Persian kitten, Little Cat, here in May for a laser declaw/spay. When I was trying to decide where to take her, I felt like there was a serious lack of reviews for spay/declaw (and for cats in general, really), so I want to leave a fairly thorough recap for any cat moms and dads who are feeling a little lost like I was. This was my first bringing any pet to this vet. I appreciated that I was able to make the appointment very quickly via email without having to come meet anybody first as I was on a tight schedule and traveling a lot at the time. However, since there was no consultation, I was caught very off guard by some of their policies. Firstly, I dropped her off on Tuesday and was told that I could pick her up Saturday!?! (I had done TONS of research and had never heard of a vet keeping the kitty for more than 2 days (much less 4.) This policy made me super uncomfortable, and I started to waffle on whether I should leave her. The vet wasn't in yet, so I asked if the vet tech could explain why their policy differed so much from the standard operating procedures. Her explanation? "Each vet has its own policies and this is ours." Maybe it's the obnoxious lawyer in me, but "because that's just the way we do it" is just not a satisfactory answer. The tech was obviously put out with me, but I didn't care. I asked for the vet to call me as soon as he arrived at the office/ before beginning the procedure. (Side note: I worked with Dr. Volosen. I think Dr. Carter owns the practice, but he was out of town the week I was there.)When Dr. Volosen called, I politely interrogated him about the policy and told him I absolutely would not be leaving her for 4 days. He said "Maybe you can get her Friday, we'll see." I wasn't exactly pleased with his response, but he seemed competent enough, and I knew that he couldn't legally keep Little Cat against my permission. So, being tight on time (and money) I decided to leave her. I went to see LC the day after the surgery. I loved that the nurses let me spend lots of time with her in a separate room, and she didn't appear to be in distress. However, she had very tight bandages on her paws which, again, is not standard procedure for laser declaw given that there should be little to no bleeding. Tight bandaging can restrict the blood flow to the paws, causing nerve damage and/or delaying healing. Again, I asked for the vet to call me as soon as he had a minute. A couple of hours later, Dr. Volosen called to say he left the bandages on in order to prevent the wounds from splitting and would take them off Saturday. (In the interest of brevity I'll spare y'all the details, but just PM me if you want to know why his response didn't make much sense.) I said no and that I would only agree to leave her until Friday IF he took the bandages off Thursday. Otherwise, I'd be picking her up Thursday. He begrudgingly agreed to take the bandages off.I picked her up Friday morning, and she seemed fine. The vet tech explained her aftercare (including the fact that we'd need to come back in 2 weeks to have the spay stitches removed) and we went on our way. I spent about $450 which included the laser declaw, the spay, the Elizabethan collar to keep her from scratching herself, a pain patch, anti-biotics, and the overnight stays. I also think I opted to have her heart checked before anesthesia, but didn't pay the $70 to have it monitored. (I'll update when/if I find the bill.) I would be shocked if you could find a more reasonable price than this in the Metroplex. When I came back to have her stitches removed, Dr. Volosen came out to the lobby where I was waiting. I had yet to meet him in person, and when he opened the door he said: "Where is the lady? I must meet her. Ah. There she is. You gave me very hard time! But is ok. Little Cat is very good. See, no problems."He was very friendly, and the exchange kind of warmed my heart. So would I recommend this clinic for a spay/declaw again? Yes, but only if you're on a budget. If money is no object, you should go somewhere with a more modern understanding of how the procedure works. But, if you're a poor student like me, I think this place is competent, and they do care about your pets. I am so grateful to have found somewhere that allowed me to have this procedure done without absolutely breaking the bank. Read Less
