The worst veterinary experience of my life. I brought my brother’s dog in because she was acting really sick. I asked them to do any test needed to make sure she was ok. The vet recommended many different tests and I agreed to to them. She concluded that she was severely dehydrated, and used some hydration packs to make her feel better. I asked her at least 5 times if there was ANY POSSIBILITY that she would pass away that night, because my brother was out of town and wanted to fly home to spend her last moments with her. She ASSURED me that she would be fine. My brother loved that dog more than anything. I told him that it was ok, she was dehydrated. I came back that morning and she was DEAD. I know people make mistakes, but the vet should’ve at least told me there was a possibility so my brother could come home or I could’ve spent the night with her. Then I talked to someone who said they would refund the over $400 dollars I spent, and I wasn’t going to leave a review or hold any resentment because I know people make mistakes, but at least they were sorry and doing the right thing. The reason I’m writing this review is because they didn’t do the right thing. I came in to get my refund and they told me they could only refund me $150 for the medicine and the guy who was talking to me had no remorse and was a little bit of a jerk, saying there is nothing else they could do and not seeming apologetic at all. They are dishonest and incompetent, and no one who loves their pet should bring them to this deplorable place of business.

Staff is friendly, caring, accommodating and very professional.
They always follow up to check on my animals after treatment.
They are amazing with mailing and calling with reminders for upcoming services, prescribed meds/monthly treatments and I love that they are part of the Petdesk app - which allows me to keep track of my animals' records and upcoming services as well.
You can tell that Dr. Elmer truly has your pets' best interest at heart. He never rushes through a visit and he takes the time to answer any questions or concerns that you have.
But the best testimonial that can be given is how my animals react to the staff and Dr. Elmer.
I have nothing but rescue animals and when I first bring them in, they are understandably nervous. But by the time we leave, my animals are walking out with the vet techs, tails wagging (the kitties are relaxed) and accepting of the departing attention from them.

Their care is so much better than the big corporate Veterinarians and their prices for services are much more reasonable.

The Doctor is very knowledgeable and quite great IF you can get in to see him. I am an established patient of about 11 years. The past 3 times I have NEEDED to get in they couldn’t work my dog(s) in. It’s very frustrating to have a real problem with your animal (not just for a check up) and they can’t get the medical treatment they need. If they were properly staffed then I would say definitely use this place - but since they are not, I would say you might want to think twice.

We have used Dr. Elmer for more years than I can remember. We adopt street and shelter dogs (currently have six) and he's been their vet from beginning to end. The front desk and vet tech associates are the best and I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. I've done price comparisons and he's the fairest I've found. Very professional and caring. Recommend highly.

I can not say enough nice things about the ladies who work at the front desk. They are so caring and helpful. The vet answered all our questions. We started coming here for our Puppy visits and a week after our first one our poor puppy got randomly sick. We took him here first but the vet was in surgery so we went to a Vet in Kingwood and they were very rude to us so we went back to the Porter Animal Hospital and waited the Vet out. Our Puppy was up and playing again by the time we saw the vet. But he still checked on him and listened to our suggestions on what we thought could be wrong.

Dr Elmer has treated my dogs for 5 years now and I'm very happy with the service I've received. Very professional and thoughtful without any attempts to do more than is needed. He presents the available options for treatment in a way that is easy to understand so you can make a well informed decision. I have recommended friends to him and they have been equally pleased. I've been to many vets in the past but I'll keep my dogs under Dr. Elmer's care.

Nice people when they have the time for you, but they are severely understaffed and horrifically overbooked. The vet was kind and seemed to care, but he was so overeworked that he didn't have much time for my cat. Poor guy. If you have something even slightly urgent, go somewhere else. And if the vet says you need to come in two weeks later, make the appointment right then, otherwise you won't get in for a month. Even the slightly cheaper prices are not worth your animal being in prolonged pain.

I have used this vet for around eight years. I have had nothing but good experience here. The prices for services are very reasonable, the facility is always clean, the staff is friendly and helpful and Dr Elmer always takes his time to expain the situation and allows me to ask questions. I also feel that they are conservative in thier treatment. He doesn't rack up a big bill just to find out what's wrong. I was also impressed with Dr Elmer concerning how he handled our very timid and protective boxer/mastiff. She was very scared and he was very calm with her and earned her trust before treating her.

I only put one star cause I had to to make this review. They were horrible. I brought my Pomeranian in there for a broken leg, I had to drop my guy off to them due to them not having any available appointments. I picked him up that evening to find out they didn't do anything for him but put a soft cast on him and said he needed surgery do to the screw coming loose from previous surgery. They also charged me for blood work to detect a viral infection they said he had. I paid a little shy of 400 dollars for this visit and they couldn't tell me what kind of viral infection or nothing. I was already in contact with an organization that is going to help with the surgery and porter vet said they would send all the info to him for me. So then because they said my baby needed surgery I was on the phone for days trying to find a surgeon. When I needed them to send the x-rays to the surgeon's they gave me a hard time first one took them 2 days to send the email. And still the organization never received an email from them. I am furious with these people. They were rude and unprofessional and unreliable! I will never go there again. I have found a new vet that says he might not even need surgery. That it's impossible for the screw to come loose since first surgery was almost five years ago and bone would've grown over the screws. Ugh I recommend to never go here!!

I dont have experience yet with this vet is why it is 4 stars but I just had my eldest dog in for teeth cleaning and compared to another place I have been taking her, she recovered much better. Because she did so well I am more sure now that changing to Dr. Elmer was the right decision and that the other vet was not caring for my dog well. The proof is in how your dog behaves over time. So for now he is terrific as far as Im concerned.

Great vet. We had a very bad experience at all community vet clinic in porter and have gone here ever since. Dr Elmer had to amputate my cats leg from her hip down from cancer and she's never been happier. He provided all of the aftercare medication and antibiotics and she heeled very quickly. I do have a few complaints about the staff but nothing big. My pets are healthy and have their checkups on time and that's what matters.

Absolutely the worse decision we made to go here! You have to drop off your pet and pick up later. They charged us for "lab work" and x-rays. When we said we were going to a different vet clinic because they could not find what was wrong with our pet, they refused to this date to provide copies of the lab work and x-rays. Waiting for the "office manager" to call us back for over three days. Real cool since they know our dog is still needing medical attention.

Do not take your pet to the porter animal hospital. They are heartless people that will turn you away in an emergency 30 min before closing because going home is more important to them then the 4 legged friends they took an oath to protect and care for. They DO NOT CARE FOR OTHER PEOPLES PETS LIKE THEIR OWN. They didn't even bother to recommend another hospital that was open.

I was a client of Dr. Elmer's since '93. Recently he did not have enough patients with dogs using revolution, so he prescribed cat revolution to my small dog. She had a terrible reaction to it. It was as if she'd been poisened. Her reaction was fairly soon after applying the medicine, so we ran her to his office where he confirmed that she was acting as if she was poisoned. He charged us over $100 and didn't even perform any blood work. We did our due diligence and spoke with other clinics, and the manufacturer. Every we spoke with said that cats require higher doses and different ingredients than dogs. Therefore; totally inappropriate to give cat meds to dogs. I am so disappointed with his offices response. All he cared about was protecting his name and didn't care at all about our dog.

When i arrived there, since it is the closed to my home, it was around 4.30 pm, he had blood all uder his neck. There were two receptionist at the front desk, with great concern I told them what happened. In such calmness one replied, ""Well we already have 2 walk ins today and we close at 6.00 pm , we can not see him"". I wanted to go off!! In stead my husband asked ""Where is the nearest other vet around here?"" They gave us a number, 281-354-2724, All Animal Community Hospital, 24021 Hwy 59 only 5 min fom this no good vet hospital on 1314. This vet was recommended to us by our previous vet when we moved. We loved and trusted our vet and have been incredibly happy with her recommendation. Our dog is a bit skiddish when getting shots, but she has warmed up to the staff there. She has been boarded with them two times and has never been mistreated. The staff takes the time to get to know your pet. We were actually out walking our dog when a guy approached us and started petting our dog and calling her by name. We asked how he ""knew"" her and he said that he worked at the vet's office. This was about 6 months since the last time she had stayed with them. To me that says a lot about how the staff treats the pets during their stay; meaning they don't just lock them in a cage and ignore them; they play with them and give them lots of love and attention.

I feel very confident in recommending Dr. Elmer and his staff at Porter Animal Hospital. I have been using his services for the last 5 years and have experienced nothing but a welcoming, caring environment. Dr. Elmer has always been upfront with me about pricing and recommended alternative, lower-priced options for both of my dogs. In response to the individual who stated Dr. Elmer punched their dog in the face - I adamantly refuse to believe that as I have never seen him to be anything but gentle and kind when treating his patients. In December of 2009 I had to put my beloved Golden Retriever to-sleep because of Cancer and the entire staff were so comforting throughout that devastating event. Dr. Elmer practically held my hand during the process. As a pet owner who will do and has done anything medically necessary for her animals I can 100% recommend Dr. Elmer - you will not be sorry you chose his practice.

I was driving down FM 1314 when myself and my 17 year old niece saw a little kitten in the center median and we pulled over the put it on the side of the road. To our suprise the kitten had already been hit by a car and had a bloody face. We took the kitten to PAH and they were extremely caring and to be honest affordable. When i went to pick up the kitty they were caring enough to talk to my two pre schoolers about the kitty being sick and that we needed to be careful. I couldn't even believe it when they called me the following day to check on the cat. This is a rarity and shows how much the staff really cares.

I've known Dr. Elmer & his staff since he first opened his office in Porter in the early 90's. He cared for my horses when I owned them, including my national champion/international futurity winning stallion. He's cared for my dogs, and hasalways been extremely professional. Because of the quality of his care, I will continue to refer others to him. His prices are competitive if not a little less than other vets charge. I find Bettencort's comments somewhat lacking as I on a dog that does NOT like going to the vet. I let the staff know to automatically muzzle him if he misbehaves.

We have been using PAH for 6 years now and we've never had a bad experience. The entire staff and Dr. are very caring and gentle. When one of our dogs had to be put to sleep, they were very understanding of our loss and even sent us a sympathy card a few days later. When my pom got bit by a copper head, they were able to take me immediately! They've seen all four of our dogs and like I said, we've been very satisfied. As for the charges, they were actually less than at our previous vet when we lived in Kingwood. I also like that their office is always clean. I'm sorry to those of you who had a bad experience. I can only tell you that personally, my experience has been great.

The Doctor is very knowledgeable and quite great IF you can get in to see him. I am an established patient of about 11 years. The past 3 times I have NEEDED to get in they couldn’t work my dog(s) in. It’s very frustrating to have a real problem with your animal (not just for a check up) and they can’t get the medical treatment they need. If they were properly staffed then I would say definitely use this place - but since they are not, I would say you might want to think twice.

The front desk and vet tech associates are the best and I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. I've done price comparisons and he's the fairest I've found. Very professional and caring. I can not say enough nice things about the ladies who work at the front desk. They are so caring and helpful. The vet answered all our questions. We started coming here for our Puppy visits and a week after our first one our poor puppy got randomly sick. We took him here first but the vet was in surgery so we went to a Vet in Kingwood and they were very rude to us so we went back to the Porter Animal Hospital and waited the Vet out. Our Puppy was up and playing again by the time we saw the vet. But he still checked on him and listened to our suggestions on what we thought could be wrong.

Dr Elmer has treated my dogs for 5 years now and I'm very happy with the service I've received. Very professional and thoughtful without any attempts to do more than is needed. He presents the available options for treatment in a way that is easy to understand so you can make a well informed decision. I have recommended friends to him and they have been equally pleased. I've been to many vets in the past but I'll keep my dogs under Dr. Elmer's care.

Nice people when they have the time for you, but they are severely understaffed and horrifically overbooked. The vet was kind and seemed to care, but he was so overeworked that he didn't have much time for my cat. Poor guy. If you have something even slightly urgent, go somewhere else. And if the vet says you need to come in two weeks later, make the appointment right then, otherwise you won't get in for a month. Even the slightly cheaper prices are not worth your animal being in prolonged pain.

I have used this vet for around eight years. I have had nothing but good experience here. The prices for services are very reasonable, the facility is always clean, the staff is friendly and helpful and Dr Elmer always takes his time to expain the situation and allows me to ask questions. I also feel that they are conservative in thier treatment. He doesn't rack up a big bill just to find out what's wrong. I was also impressed with Dr Elmer concerning how he handled our very timid and protective boxer/mastiff. She was very scared and he was very calm with her and earned her trust before treating her.

I brought my Pomeranian in there for a broken leg, I had to drop my guy off to them due to them not having any available appointments. I picked him up that evening to find out they didn't do anything for him but put a soft cast on him and said he needed surgery do to the screw coming loose from previous surgery. They also charged me for blood work to detect a viral infection they said he had. I paid a little shy of 400 dollars for this visit and they couldn't tell me what kind of viral infection or nothing. I was already in contact with an organization that is going to help with the surgery and porter vet said they would send all the info to him for me. So then because they said my baby needed surgery I was on the phone for days trying to find a surgeon. When I needed them to send the x-rays to the surgeon's they gave me a hard time first one took them 2 days to send the email. And still the organization never received an email from them. I am furious with these people. They were rude and unprofessional and unreliable! I will never go there again. I have found a new vet that says he might not even need surgery. That it's impossible for the screw to come loose since first surgery was almost five years ago and bone would've grown over the screws. Ugh I recommend to never go here!!

I dont have experience yet with this vet is why it is 4 stars but I just had my eldest dog in for teeth cleaning and compared to another place I have been taking her, she recovered much better. Because she did so well I am more sure now that changing to Dr. Elmer was the right decision and that the other vet was not caring for my dog well. The proof is in how your dog behaves over time. So for now he is terrific as far as Im concerned.

Great vet. We had a very bad experience at all community vet clinic in porter and have gone here ever since. Dr Elmer had to amputate my cats leg from her hip down from cancer and she's never been happier. He provided all of the aftercare medication and antibiotics and she heeled very quickly. I do have a few complaints about the staff but nothing big. My pets are healthy and have their checkups on time and that's what matters.

Absolutely the worse decision we made to go here! You have to drop off your pet and pick up later. They charged us for "lab work" and x-rays. When we said we were going to a different vet clinic because they could not find what was wrong with our pet, they refused to this date to provide copies of the lab work and x-rays. Waiting for the "office manager" to call us back for over three days. Real cool since they know our dog is still needing medical attention.

I was a client of Dr. Elmer's since '93. Recently he did not have enough patients with dogs using revolution, so he prescribed cat revolution to my small dog. She had a terrible reaction to it. It was as if she'd been poisened. Her reaction was fairly soon after applying the medicine, so we ran her to his office where he confirmed that she was acting as if she was poisoned. He charged us over $100 and didn't even perform any blood work. We did our due diligence and spoke with other clinics, and the manufacturer. Every we spoke with said that cats require higher doses and different ingredients than dogs. Therefore; totally inappropriate to give cat meds to dogs. I am so disappointed with his offices response. All he cared about was protecting his name and didn't care at all about our dog.

When i arrived there, since it is the closed to my home, it was around 4.30 pm, he had blood all uder his neck. There were two receptionist at the front desk, with great concern I told them what happened. In such calmness one replied, ""Well we already have 2 walk ins today and we close at 6.00 pm , we can not see him"". I wanted to go off!! In stead my husband asked ""Where is the nearest other vet around here?"" They gave us a number, 281-354-2724, All Animal Community Hospital, 24021 Hwy 59 only 5 min fom this no good vet hospital on 1314. This vet was recommended to us by our previous vet when we moved. We loved and trusted our vet and have been incredibly happy with her recommendation. Our dog is a bit skiddish when getting shots, but she has warmed up to the staff there. She has been boarded with them two times and has never been mistreated. The staff takes the time to get to know your pet. We were actually out walking our dog when a guy approached us and started petting our dog and calling her by name. We asked how he ""knew"" her and he said that he worked at the vet's office. This was about 6 months since the last time she had stayed with them. To me that says a lot about how the staff treats the pets during their stay; meaning they don't just lock them in a cage and ignore them; they play with them and give them lots of love and attention.

I feel very confident in recommending Dr. Elmer and his staff at Porter Animal Hospital. I have been using his services for the last 5 years and have experienced nothing but a welcoming, caring environment. Dr. Elmer has always been upfront with me about pricing and recommended alternative, lower-priced options for both of my dogs. In response to the individual who stated Dr. Elmer punched their dog in the face - I adamantly refuse to believe that as I have never seen him to be anything but gentle and kind when treating his patients. In December of 2009 I had to put my beloved Golden Retriever to-sleep because of Cancer and the entire staff were so comforting throughout that devastating event. Dr. Elmer practically held my hand during the process. As a pet owner who will do and has done anything medically necessary for her animals I can 100% recommend Dr. Elmer - you will not be sorry you chose his practice.

I was driving down FM 1314 when myself and my 17 year old niece saw a little kitten in the center median and we pulled over the put it on the side of the road. To our suprise the kitten had already been hit by a car and had a bloody face. We took the kitten to PAH and they were extremely caring and to be honest affordable. When i went to pick up the kitty they were caring enough to talk to my two pre schoolers about the kitty being sick and that we needed to be careful. I couldn't even believe it when they called me the following day to check on the cat. This is a rarity and shows how much the staff really cares.

I've known Dr. Elmer & his staff since he first opened his office in Porter in the early 90's. He cared for my horses when I owned them, including my national champion/international futurity winning stallion. He's cared for my dogs, and hasalways been extremely professional. Because of the quality of his care, I will continue to refer others to him. His prices are competitive if not a little less than other vets charge. I find Bettencort's comments somewhat lacking as I on a dog that does NOT like going to the vet. I let the staff know to automatically muzzle him if he misbehaves.

We have been using PAH for 6 years now and we've never had a bad experience. The entire staff and Dr. are very caring and gentle. When one of our dogs had to be put to sleep, they were very understanding of our loss and even sent us a sympathy card a few days later. When my pom got bit by a copper head, they were able to take me immediately! They've seen all four of our dogs and like I said, we've been very satisfied. As for the charges, they were actually less than at our previous vet when we lived in Kingwood. I also like that their office is always clean. I'm sorry to those of you who had a bad experience. I can only tell you that personally, my experience has been great.
