We're new to the area, and we first took our dog a month ago to a highly rated veterinarian in Corpus. The cost was outrageous and service was lacking. We were recommended to Portland Vetinarian Hospital. Needless to say, I think we found our new veterinarian for our pets! Dr. F is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. He really took his time answering all our questions. Their prices for an annual exam and shots are so affordable! And it's cheaper to get preventative flea medication through them than it would be to order online! It's a small office so it got cramped, but that's a small price to pay for what was hands-down a phenomenal veterinarian experience!

I live almost 45 minutes away now with many other vet clinics much closer but still choose to go with Dr. F bc he's extremely knowledgeable, his staff is kind, they are all totally upfront and they also give you different options of care to fit your budget. Totally all around great people and great place to take your animals.

I am very impressed with this doctor. He makes it about your dog and makes sure that it gets the best service. I always feel like I am his only client when I am in there. He literally saved my one dog by correcting a misdiagnosis by another local vet. What she needed was supplements that he didn't even sell to me. I feel total comfort that this vet is the best thing that could of happen for my two boxers. With all of this thorough exams and shots are half the price of the other local vet we used before.

Dr. Rafael Fontanez has treated three of my pets. He helped me through the death of my oldest terrier when her eyes, memory and hearing were gone but her body lingered. He was experienced, efficient and kind. He allowed me to take the lead and brought us to her passing with comfort medications and sound advice for me. He escorted us to the Rainbow Bridge with actual caring and great attentiveness.He and his staff have brought my small poodle and my Shih-Tzu through simultaneous heart conditions. They both were literally at death’s door. This Vet’s great medications have “unbelievably” restored them to a high quality of life and given me a great deal more time with them.I have had well-loved pets in my family for over 65 years. Dr. Rafael Fontanez is the “BEST” vet I have ever been privileged to work with. He is a skilled, sincere and deeply caring person.

We are residents of Austin, Texas and were visiting nearby Rockport, Texas on vacation. Our Puppy Luna had an accident and was hit by my brothers car as it backed out of the driveway. Needless to say, this was terrible and my immediate assumption was that we were looking for a place to go put her down. No Vet in Rockport would see her. All sending me to an emergency vet in Corpus Christi. We noticed Portland Veterinary Hospital was right off the hwy on the way to Corpus. We popped in there and the staff was amazing! So very professional and courteous. It was Friday afternoon at 5:30 and they were so welcoming, comforting and generous with their time. Dr. was thorough with her and was able to provide us comfort that she in fact may just be ok. Gave us pain meds, antibiotics and the checkup and we were out the door for under 60 bucks. (She would have needed xrays the next morning as they were booked up for that afternoon)... so we brought her back to Austin for her vet to do them. She is doing well for what she went through. Seems like maybe the car clipped her backside as she has a little limp. For those first few minutes however, as she was in shock and scared... we thought she was a gonner. Anyhow, as many pet owners could imagine... The Portland Veterinary Hospital was a blessing of a find in a time of need. I would HIGHLY recommend them if your ever in that coastal area. Worth the drive to see them.

We have brought our dog Bailey here for a couple years now and have always had great service and they offer reasonable prices. Both the doctor and staff are very kind, and explain everything to you making it easy to understand, They always give you all options and never forces you into any decisions. The clinic is always flexible with appointments and you never feel rushed. We would highly reccommend this vet clinic, they really do care about your pets.

I have had a wonderful experience with Portland Veterinary Hospital. It began several years ago as they took over care of my rescued European Doberman Pincher. He took great care and helped us through several trying times. I trusted them with him until his last day. I now have a new puppy and will be headed there tomorrow to start another chapter in my families life, and our relationship with Dr. Fontanez and his staff.

Dr. Rafael Fontanez is a great vet. He is always very knowledgeable and will take the time to explain everything to the owners. He is fair priced and will even teach the owners cheaper ways to keep your dogs healthy and happy. When our dog started to show signs of arthritis this vet told us a a combination of vitamins to help keep him feeling good. He also taught us a cheaper way to prevent heart worms in dogs. He is a great vet.

We're new to the area, and we first took our dog a month ago to a highly rated veterinarian in Corpus. The cost was outrageous and service was lacking. We were recommended to Portland Vetinarian Hospital. Needless to say, I think we found our new veterinarian for our pets! Dr. F is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. He really took his time answering all our questions. Their prices for an annual exam and shots are so affordable! And it's cheaper to get preventative flea medication through them than it would be to order online! We are residents of Austin, Texas and were visiting nearby Rockport, Texas on vacation. Our Puppy Luna had an accident and was hit by my brothers car as it backed out of the driveway. Needless to say, this was terrible and my immediate assumption was that we were looking for a place to go put her down. No Vet in Rockport would see her. I have had a wonderful experience with Portland Veterinary Hospital. It began several years ago as they took over care of my rescued European Doberman Pincher. He took great care and helped us through several trying times. I trusted them with him until his last day. I now have a new puppy and will be headed there tomorrow to start another chapter in my families life, and our relationship with Dr. Fontanez and his staff.

Dr. Rafael Fontanez is a great vet. He is always very knowledgeable and will take the time to explain everything to the owners. He is fair priced and will even teach the owners cheaper ways to keep your dogs healthy and happy. When our dog started to show signs of arthritis this vet told us a a combination of vitamins to help keep him feeling good. He also taught us a cheaper way to prevent heart worms in dogs. He is a great vet.
